NOT RECOMMENDED! I ordered 3 cubic yards of pea gravel via phone. I verbally specified the gravel to be put on the SIDE of the driveway. Was given a 30 min window when it will arrive. That's when the problem started. The delivery driver did not try to call, or ring the bell or anything. And the gravel was dumped IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DRIVEWAY, BLOCKING THE GARAGE. I was waiting outside for the delivery, not showing up yet, I went inside to do something. And next thing I saw when I checked outside again is I have a BIG MOUNTAIN, ~8,500 LBS of gravel blocking my garage. Called the business to complain and see what can be done. Nothing. Not willing to do anything, not even a token gesture other than empty sorry. Again, did say sorry a couple times, but that's worthless unless you do anything about it. Business insisted that he heard I specified driveway, not side of driveway. But there's no confirmation of the order given or asked to me. I mean, yeah put on the driveway then, but WHY BLOCKING MY GARAGE??? It will take me days of wheeling the rocks because of this. And I have to since my car cannot get out. We had a small project requiring some gravel. As we often do with these things, we thought about it all week, watched the weather, and decided to go for it on Friday. Then we remembered we hadn't put in an order for the rock. I found Smaller Deliveries here on Yelp, went to the website, figured out what I needed, and put in a request through the site. I needed only 1.5 yards of soil for a raised garden bed and it was so expensive to have it delivered by anyone else because we didn't need enough for a minimum order, and even more wildly expensive to buy it by the bag. Well, I have two empty planter boxes, live in Seattle, know no one looking to give away their earth, and it's 2014, so I guess the answer is yes, yes, I do need to buy dirt. I considered one local company based on strong Yelp reviews, but when I happened to read one reviewer's positive mention of smallerdumptrucks.com, I decided to look them up. The company, owned by Mark Wilmot, was known in the past as Big Roo Hauling and is now SmallerDeliveries.com. According to the SmallerDeliveries.com website, the company delivers topsoil, bark, rock, and other products like sawdust and hog fuel. I've no idea what special project requires hog fuel, but I suppose those looking for it would be happy to know SmallerDeliveries.com can access it for them. The company mentions it can get almost any landscaping material to the customer, so if what you want is not listed, just ask. I was interested in the "special garden mix" at the very competitive $29.99/yard price. What made me choose SmallerDeliveries.com in the end was the combination of services they were able to offer: *$79 delivery service "to most areas" - the other company I was considering is less expensive if living west of I-5, but we live east of I-5, and the price difference is significant *same-day drop-off if order placed before noon *no minimum order *smaller-size trucks are easier on the roads and apparently also on emissions I called on a morning I knew the weather was supposed to cooperate, hoping SmallerDeliveries.com would indeed offer same-day service so I could break my back filling up the planters before the rain returned in the evening. I left a message with Mark, he returned my call within 10 minutes, and I was able to place my order and have it delivered in about an hour. We needed a smaller delivery (by gravel yard standards) of 2 types of gravel. We initially chose Smaller Deliveries due to their very competitive pricing, and ability to do split loads. I used the web form on their website to order, and Mark called me very quickly to set up a delivery time, which was only an hour from our conversation! The load was dumped with precision, and there was zero mixing between the two materials. I don't normally write reviews on yelp, however, since an out of the normal situation occured and the company was awesome about it, I have. Long story short, there was a slight mix-up with my order, which I didn't realize until after the material was dumped. I think it is important to note that the truck driver told me that material mix-ups virtually never happen. The truck driver (I am sorry- I never got your name!) was so friendly, and great about the entire situation. They quickly corrected my order, and at no additional charge, which I appreciate because I know that truck time is not cheap. I did not have a official record of what I ordered, so they COULD have just said "too bad" and left, and I would have had zero recourse. They DIDN'T though, they were honest. I am giving this company 5 stars because not only was I impressed with their service, but they showed HONESTY, INTEGRITY and GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICES. I have to start this review by saying my situation was something that I don't think will be a problem for most people. So please take that in mind as my experience my be a rare case. Their product is good, they delivered a little later than the delivery window but not too bad (window was from 10am to 11am and Mark said it was going to be delivered closer to 10am. They delivered at 11:30am) and the driver was very pleasant over the phone. The only problem I had was with a miscommunication in which I ordered 3.5 yards of 5/8 minus gravel but they heard 2.5 yard. I talked to Mark again after the delivery hoping to see if he could work with me. I asked if i could get the extra yard delivered and I was hoping to work something out. It would have been great to get the extra yard delivered without the cost of transportation but meeting halfway and getting a smaller charge for the delivery would have be fine too. I understand misunderstandings happen and I understand it's not free to send a truck so I was not in the mindset of trying to get a free delivery out of hard working people. While the conversation with Mark was calm over the phone, the disappointment came from feeling like I was a somehow a liar. I kept referring to this as miscommunication (which my fiance confirmed with me that I did in fact say 3.5 yards when I placed the order), Mark kept referring to it as "that's what you ordered, that's what we delivered." and even said something along the lines of "if after we delivered you realized you needed an extra yard that's not on us." I felt the blame was on me as he repeated that i did say 2.5. There are ways of explaining to a costumer why you can't give a break on a delivery. There are ways of making a costumer feel better about a situation like this. Making a costumer feel like I'm lying is not one of them.The simple action of trying to find a solution, even if we didn't get to one, would have made me feel better about this situation. I did learn a lesson, when placing an order use the online form so that they receive an email instead of calling and doing it over the phone. I don't think this is a bad company and I don't think they are bad people so I wouldn't tell people not to do business with them. But for me, that last phone conversation left a very bad taste in my mouth. read more

Smaller Deliveries (smallerdeliveries.com) was the SMOOTHEST and FASTEST landscape cover and topsoil delivery company I have ever ordered from. Other companies in the past had a minimum delivery amount, which was always too much for my home use. Mark at SmallerDeliveries holds true to the name: you can order a small amount. Even better, you can order two different materials. August 2021, this week, I ordered both red medium bark for landscape cover (best for water retention and weed control, IMO), and a yard of topsoil and they delivered both in the same truck. Important details: they use a small-ish truck which was perfect for me, because various contractors have pulled huge trucks in my driveway which cracks the pavers; they allow online orders; Mark sent me an email with the exact price (including delivery fee) within hours; and they delivered the next morning! Less than 24 hours later. Their price, even with the delivery fee, was competitive with other King County deliverers; right on target. Options for credit card payment allow over the phone or in person when material is delivered. And William, who delivered it, was one of the kindest service people ever. He moved the tarps I layed out so they would keep the materials separate and made the dump truck fun for my little grandbaby, in my arms, watching. The idea of allowing customers to order a combination of smaller load of materials is great; the service and staffs are good; however I have to take points off from the quality. I ordered 3 cubic yard of garden mix and what I got is a mixture with a lot of half inch rocks! I was new to gardening and I found out later that this is not what a regular garden mix should look like, but it is too late. My veggies from my 3 raised beds were suffering from all those rocks. What I ended up doing was to sieve though all the soil from my three 4x8 raised bed!!! Do you know how much time I spent on this task?! I still have about a yard left and I never touch it. We recently had a cubic yard of sand delivered by smallerdeliveries.com to our house in Seattle for a mega sandbox in the back yard. Initially, I had planned to haul bags of sand from Home Depot like normal people do for their child's sandbox, but apparently we built a really really big sandbox and it was going to take 50 BAGS of sand (at $4 a bag....sigh). I read online that bulk deliveries were often much cheaper, although the delivery itself was often quite expensive. This was definitely the case when I called Salmon Bay Sand and Gravel. They were super nice, but informed me over the phone that a massive truck would make my small sand delivery and, thus, the delivery fee was quite steep, making the bulk delivery about as expensive as bags from Home Depot. I found smallerdeliveries online and was a little concerned about their legitimacy....something about the website looked off to me. Anyway, I called the number listed and Mark immediately put me at ease. He provided a quote ($79 for the delivery....I want to say $40 for the sand + tax), accepted a variety of payments (although needs to charge a 3% fee, I think?, for credit cards....totally reasonable for a smaller business), and said he would be at my place within two hours. WHAT?! Mark showed up as promised and with a vehicle that actually was able to back up my small driveway. He was also very patient with my crazy active toddler who was losing his mind over his truck. All in all, this was the most painless and affordable way to get our sandbox filled. I will definitely check back with Mark when it's time to replace the bark around our yard...so much more pleasant than hauling bags and bags of the stuff from the store.
