I'm used to going to the Snellville Smallcakes shop which I love. I decided to try the cupcakes here at the Smyrna location thinking the quality will be the same since it is a franchise. When I bit into the cupcake, I noticed it was cold. I immediately got the suspicion that the cupcakes are not being baked fresh daily. I let the cupcake cool to room temperature and bit into it again. The cupcake did not taste fresh and it was obvious to me that the cupcakes were not baked fresh. Not sure if this was a one off or not but will not be patronizing this store again. I've been here before and something else that I notice is they never have all of their cupcakes baked and ready to sell when they open their doors. I was visiting from out of town and my friend lives in the nearby neighborhood. We were grabbing some food and I decided to stop by on a whim. Immediately I was happy with the decision. It was very clean, smelled delicious, and a cute display with simple selections. I ordered the salted caramel cupcake and the birthday cake for my friend. The salted caramel did not disappoint! It was moist and the cake wasn't overly sweet which allowed the caramel to shine, it was sweet with a hint of savory. It was so good I went back to order the same cupcake and a vanilla strawberry for my friend. Smallcakes did an amazing job putting together my ideas onto a birthday cake for my gf's birthday. She is a little particular on red velvet cake flavor's so this was a gamble and was an absolutely perfect at that. The cake was moist, rich, and had just the right balance of sweetness with a smooth cream cheese frosting. They were responsive the entire time around concerns of fondant and cream cheese icing. Walking in I was immediately greeted with a warm welcome and asked if I had been here before. I was shown the display case with all of their wonderful cupcakes available to purchase. The lady at the counter was friendly and patient since I was undecided on the four cupcakes I was looking to purchase. I decided and she quickly boxed them up for me and I was back in my car woofing down my first cupcake in the parking lot. It was moist and the icing was not a lot nor not too sweet for me. Just the way I prefer. I am saving the other three for when I get home this evening. . The dining area was bright and colorful which makes you feel good if you were to dine in and have cupcake while there. It's been a few years since I had Small Cakes but I was reminded with the first bite why I love them. I got four cakes for my sweet tooth - decent fudge, cookies n cream, Snickers & strawberry. The fudge went first, I felt like Brucey biting into that cake, it was so moist & chocolatey! I'm a chocolate lover so it wasn't too much for me. The cake to icing ratio is good IMO. All the cakes were moist and yummy. My only knock is that they've gotten expensive over the years (like everything else), I spent just under $20 for my cakes. More than I wanted to spend but at least the quality is there. Service was good, one young lady at the counter & she greeted me when I came in. She was also patient with me while making my selections. Plenty of parking in this shared lot, but be careful as people tend to speed through the lot. read more

Expensive at 5 bucks but worth it. It was soft, moist and not to sugary sweet. The icing was sugary sweet so that would be good for some but I took half of mine off. I have wanted to try this place for a very long time but never really had the excuse to, so when the opportunity presented itself I went for it. I'm a huge sweets person but I'm also very opinionated about sweets. I got a box of four cupcakes that contained various chocolate flavour mixes and although they were all very good my favorite was the s'mores cupcake. I will say I was expecting something too sweet and rich but it was very light and not overpowering as far as flavours. The cupcakes were most and melted in your mouth. Due to the shelter in place order my favorite cupcake place was closed and I wasn't able to get anything for my birthday. I drove passed and saw small cakes open and decided to give them a try. Smallcakes has a variety of cupcake flavors that are fun to try. Each come with their own unique tasting experience. This time I had the mimosa cupcake and a chocolate almond cupcake (cant remember if that was the official name....but it was chocolate cake with chocolatey-almond flavored icing). The mimosa had an orange flavor true to its name. The chocolate cupcake had a great balance where it wasn't too much, but rather just right. Admittedly, I ate both at the same time and they tasted better when I mixed the two. One bite of orange cake + chocolate icing, then one bite of chocolate cake + orange icing, and so forth. To some my ability to eat this much may be grotesque, but in reality my mixing of flavors is genius. Smallcakes feel free to reach out to me for taste tests. ;) They have 4 stars because the sweet balance between the cake and icing is slightly off. Stopped by last minute to grab a cupcake. Not many selections at the time I went. I selected a pink chocolate cupcake. The cashier that rung me up was attentive and polite. I haven't been in so long, it's a reward system recognized by your phone number. Last time I've gone, it was a card they marked off/ punched thru on each visit. It's been a while. It's generally, for me, a lot of icing so Ive always cut my cupcake in half (across) and cut the icing in half and place that half of icing on the half piece ofcupcake. Works for me. In a post-Sprinklesque era, I was on the hunt for a cupcakery that had fresh and creative cupcake options. I found Smallcakes on Yelp, and by far they seemed to have the best and most reliable menu in my area. I stopped by on a Saturday morning to pick up a 1/2 dozen cupcakes for the mister's birthday. The young woman at the counter informed me that the cupcakes closest to the register were the bestsellers. Of the bestsellers, I picked out the birthday cupcake (duh!) and two strawberry cupcakes. I also picked out the caramel, carrot (my favorite!), and lemon drop. The cupcakes were delicious! I even ate the frosting, and let's be real - we all know the older you get, the less you like that super sweet, nasty frosting BUT Smallcakes does a good job of getting a really nice sweet mixture that doesn't overpower your tastebuds. I was a little underwhelmed by the lemon and strawberry. I felt they could've had more lemon and more strawberry. The majority of the cupcakes seemed to be chocolate (red velvet included), which by my tone you can tell isn't my favorite. The cupcakes themselves were very moist and fresh however, I felt like they could've done more for flavoring. The carrot cupcake was perfectly spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg and it was actually perfect. The boxes the cupcakes come in are super cute too. Bright pink and very festive. You can be sure your cupcakes won't get smashed when you put them in the car. While some of the cupcakes were a bit lackluster, I'll definitely be going back to try different flavors. read more

I'm not a big cupcake lover, I'm more of a doughnut person, but my wife loves them and is super serious about the perfect cupcake so when she said she loved Small Cakes, I knew it must be good. Our usual routine involved me dropping her off at Small Cakes while I'd go right across the street to Krispy Kreme. But, this time she convinced me to come inside the shop with her and when I did I couldn't resist getting a couple cupcakes of my own. The place is so cute inside as much cupcake shops are. They have a large cupcake display area and ample table and chairs for inside seating but I've never seen anyone "dining in" at any cupcake shop. There's a large list of cupcake flavors on the wall but, of course, the flavors vary and change frequently and once they run out, they're out so don't go expecting your favorite flavor every time. Always go with the intention of trying something new in case they don't have your flavor. Everything looked so good that it was hard to decide but I went with the coconut cupcake and a chocolate cream? I'm not sure the exact name of it but it looked and tasted EXACTLY like a Hostess chocolate cupcake, complete with the white ribbon of frosting on top, it was delicious! The cake of both cupcakes was moist and yummy, I always think cupcakes have way too much frosting but these have a good ratio of frosting to cake and they're not too sweet.
