They prepared kid-friendly food for 5 children (ages 8-10), including a special mocktail that made the kids feel special, then a multi-course dinner with wine pairing for 6 adults. Each course wowed us - from coconut shrimp, to lobster on sweet potatoes, to beef tenderloin with crab cake surf n turf, to pound cake with berry chantilly cream. We felt like family the whole time. The first weekend in October 2020 travelled to Key West, Florida for a 50th Birthday Celebration. All Covid Protocol followed. Reached out to Small Chef at Large Catering 2 weeks prior to arrival. She was very accommodating with menu selection and all of my questions. She accommodated 5 women and it was a surprise for the birthday girl. She took pictures and really made the experience worth while. With all of the hiccups that transpired prior to her arrival, she made it happened and even stayed over the scheduled time to accommodate the group. The plating of the meal was fantastic! Salad and grilled veggies were my favorite. The dessert, a salted caramel apple tart, not pictured because it was gone before the snap of the picture. I had an excellent experience with Jennifer! A group of 9 of us were down in Key West for a bachelorette party. I hired Jennifer to stock our rental house with groceries and drop off dinner the first night we arrived. Everything was great! The dinner she prepared was absolutely delicious and we had tons of leftovers. She bought all the groceries we had requested and even made some additional food for us (homemade dips, cheese platter, etc.) when I had expected her to just buy some pre-made stuff. She even picked up fresh bakery bagels and individually wrapped each one so they wouldn't get stale. I think a lot of the negative reviews on here are in regards to her promptness in replying to emails. Please consider that life in Key West is a lot more relaxed! She may not reply to your email within 5 minutes but you will definitely hear from her within a couple days. read more

Our group hired Chef Jennifer from Small Chef At Large for four nights of our June/July Keys vacation and we were beyond pleased with her communication and professionalism and the quality, presentation, and taste of the food. Chef presented us with many, many menu options and we had a hard time choosing our meals because everything looked so good. For the main courses, we ultimately decided on crab cakes, jerk chicken, prime rib, pesto shrimp, macadamia crusted grouper, and surf and turf as the main entrees. The first three dinners were delivered and set up by Chef Jennifer and the presentation was exquisite. Fresh flowers and palm fronds served as the table cloth and fresh flowers adorned every dish. The serving pieces were Key West appropriate - very colorful and the designs were true to the locale. Our last meal, surf and turf, was cooked at our rental house that night and we had a full service. Chef Jennifer and "E" were perfection personified. They were very attentive, pleasant, and friendly and we couldn't have asked for two better people. For the dinners, appetizers and side dishes included bacon wrapped scallops, coconut rice, oysters with fennel and spinach, mixed greens with avocado, baked brie, and more. For dessert, Chef made Key Lime cheesecake with raspberries, a flourless chocolate cake with blackberries and mint, and a Key Lime pie. Chef also prepared lunch meals for us including chicken salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, and a few different kinds of wraps. Every bite...EVERY...SINGLE...BITE was delicious and we highly recommend Chef Jennifer and her staff at Small Chef At Large for larger or intimate gatherings. I really wish I could give a review of the food but alas I can't. I am reviewing based on customer service or technically - LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. I sent a request via email on Tuesday. By Monday of the following week, I called her to check and see if she received the request for a quote. She was very short on the phone with me. She told me she was very busy yes she received my info and acted as if I was being a nuisance by checking to see if she received my request for a quote. She said she would get back to me by Friday. I saw ok no problem, I just wanted to verify she received my info because sometimes when you send a request over a website, it doesn't go thru. So Friday comes along... nothing. Monday comes along.... nothing. Tues, Wednesday, Thursday - the same. Nothing. Friday I send a note. I was just letting her know I booked a site and was worried because I needed quotes for the wedding to see if it was within our budget. I had a small window of opportunity and needed to send in a deposit or they wouldn't hold the site for me. Nothing. Still today - several days later. I called back, and emailed and she doesn't returnmsgs or send quotes. So now, I had two weeks to lock in numbers, etc to make sure I could afford the location we wanted in Key West. This is all remote, so it's hard trying to plan a destination wedding and reception and vendors won't return your call. So I am moving on and pretty disappointed. read more

After a couple of bad experiences with the few caterers in town, I heard about Jennifer. She came highly recommended and her menus looked awesome, so I got in touch with her and she responded really quickly. We discussed a menu and she promised to get back to me with a quote. Two months later, after her losing the menu we'd talked about, I finally got a very generic quote. Not sure why that took two months to get together, but it did. I emailed asking for clarification and didn't get a response. After 9 days of waiting for more information on a quote I'd requested two months before, I was done. I'd lost all faith. I emailed her telling her we were making other arrangements, and guess what? She responded immediately! The impression that I got isn't that she's incapable, but that she's overwhelmed by her booming business. Hire some freaking help already. What a huge waste of energy. read more

Had an amazing meal prepared as a surprise for my husbands birthday by Jennifer Cornell Small Chef at Large! She was very courteous via email and in person to finalize the details and menu. We chose grilled shrimp, lobster bisque, tomato goat cheese salad, ribs with homemade BBQ sauce, and molten chocolate cake. I think the mango salsa that was used in the salad was the favorite but everything was sensational!!! And there was no mess left to clean up! Got a chance to spend time with Chef Jennifer and she is clearly passionate about what she does. She was professional and pleasant to work with and took care of every detail. After 2 weeks i reached out to follow up and I was told they were very busy, but would send me a quote before end of week. RIEN! Never heard back...two weeks later i sent an email saying i would love to consider them but that i needed to get a quote, because it had already been a little over month since i requested the quote. They sent a vary vague quote, without descriptions. Moral of the story...even if they have good food...out of principal, i would never hire them. Their customer service SUCKS! read more

Just got back from the most fabulous birthday girls get away in Key West! We contacted Jennifer to provision our house and to cater a dinner and brunch for the nine of us. We were warmly welcomed with beautiful flowers and the most delicious snacks of conch ceviche, cheese and fruit plate, chilled shrimp and wraps, definitely something for everyone. Our dinner absolutely amazing, everyone devoured the chilled soup with beets, the grilled endive salad, and the snapper with clams in broth entree was so yummy I couldn't stop eating and had to have my dessert of grilled apricots the next day. Brunch was also perfect, bloody mary bar with shrimp and crab claws, quinoa bowls w/ poached egg and pancetta bits, cinnamon french toast with maple syrup from her family's trees in Vermont, so many goodies to try!! Catering for nine woman isn't easy and all I can say is Jennifer hit a home run, we all loved everything. She was great to work with prior to our arrival and her prices were extremely reasonable. I have been home now for about a week and a half from an amazing girls trip to Key West. We asked Jennifer to come in and help us with a couple of meals and snacks while we were there for a week. Jennifer went above and beyond. When we arrived at the house, there were fresh snacks waiting for us, including conch ceviche, shrimp, hummus, crackers, cheese, wraps, etc. The list goes one. Much more than just "snacks", and let's not forget, the wine was chilled, ready to drink. Flowers throughout the house welcoming us. Jennifer made us brunch one morning and dinner another evening and I can honestly say there was not one dish that was put out that I didn't care for. ALL of it was to die for. Jennifer also did a really great job of cleaning up and allowing us time to sit back, relax and enjoy our time with our family and friends. We did not have to worry about anything.
