My favourite place to eat in Crouch End, if I can get a table that is!…read more I'm a big fan of their version of jerk chicken! It was a slight bastardisation of what I'm used to, but even though it's not quite authentic, it was bloody lovely! The addition of a pot of peanut sauce is GENIUS! I opted for a coke float, although I was hoping for a can of Ting or some Bigga Grape, but meh, the coke float was pretty great too! Mrs D had a fry-up which looked great, but couldn't compete with my chicken. It's not a cheap meal out, and some of the staff seem to cope with the constant throng of customers better than others, but I love it here anyway, and I'll definitely be back.

I went travelling for 7 months in between now and then and can sincerely say their food is the stuff you dream about when you're stuck in the middle of a strange country without your home comforts. It was also one of my first stops upon returning to London. My only slight criticism is the amount of time you sometimes wait to be served and perhaps certain staff could be slightly more friendly, but it is a minor flaw in an otherwise great restaurant. I recommend the jerk chicken sandwich, jerk chicken salad and jerk pork chop which is often on special. If you're not a fan of 'the jerk' don't worry, you can't go far wrong with any of the dishes really. And the prices are very reasonable. And as a quick aside I have dined on a table next to Simon Pegg, held the door open for Victoria Wood as she was leaving and there's a plaque claiming Bob Dylan was there in 1993. If it's good enough for them...

Our dry red wine went well with the vegetable kofte served on top of a rustic tomato sauce with a light aromatic seasoned rice. We tried the ground lamb pide with an egg on top and the thin crust was great! Nothing could beat the end of this experience...a complimentary treat (amuse bouche size) and a Turkish hot tea. Five Stars!

I have to say, it was the review of Yinnie C. that made me come here; I trust her opinion and if she says that eating at Selale has made her rethink the idea of a kebab, then I should come here as well. And indeed, my dining experience at Selale was great. The place itself is not very special: it's pretty much a big room with loads of tables and mostly unoriginal design. In fact, I actually thought they were trying to hard...but what it was lacking in terms of design features, Selale made up in terms of food and service. I sat down and soon a waiter came by and asked me for my order. I easily get overwhelmed by the sheer choice of different items at Turkish restaurants and so I simply asked the waiter what he would recommend. In a very friendly manner, he then placed a hand on my shoulder and pointed me to the lamb shish. I asked him if I should go for the mixed shish (chicken and lamb), but he nudged me into ordering the pure lamb shish...and, boy, am I glad I did. It was delicious! Here at Selale, every main course comes with a mixed salad, topped of with a delicious pomegranate dressing. Also, they serve humus and tzatsiki (cacık) alongside oven fresh pita bread. At the end of the meal, they also offer you a free glas of tea (çay). When I was about to get up the waiter shook my hand and I left happy as a puppy...that's what I call a great experience!

The interior is newly refurbished and it makes no effort to simulate period charm -- it is unpretentious, clean and modern. The front bar has a large open fireplace and a flat screen TV for the friendly local Arsenal supporters, and a small dining room off to the side. The back bar (go through the gents) has darts and another fireplace. Nine handpumps, three in front and six in back, and a good selection of whiskies as well. The service was notably amiable and efficient. I did not eat here and cannot comment on the food, but I surely would have been content to sit in the bar all afternoon if I could have.

They provide an interesting selection of CAMRA recommended, well-kept beers, a wide choice of wines and ciders, as well as superb menu, which, although slightly more pricey than others, is of excellent quality, and sure to put a smile on your face. The pub itself is split into two, with the front section being more of a saloon bar, and the back more of a comfy space ideal to relax for an evening or a weekend afternoon, with both served by the same staff from one room to another. A firm favourite, and sure to be a hit if you're in the area with friends, meeting up with others, or just fancy a quiet pint.

This place looked busy, with an exposed brick hipster vibe but more importantly lots of delicious smells coming from the kitchen, so we stayed! The staff are amazingly friendly - the girl on front of house was so welcoming, and explained it's BYOB as they've lost their license due to a mix-up. Music to our ears! After a quick dash over to the Sainsbury's we were all happily cosied up in a booth with some very reasonably priced vino :) The service continued to impress, with our waiter doing that nonchalant I don't need to write anything down thing (and getting it spot on). The food was also fresh and tasty which always helps, and my goi ga chicken noodle salad was just the flavours I'd been craving. The others all got steaming hot bowls of pho that were slurped down happily around me too. Given we got a steal on the drinks it was all very reasonably priced for the healthy portion sizes, even after over-ordering starters to share. What topped it off for me was they even let us sit there nattering away for ages as we polished off the wine until what must've been past closing, cleaning up around us but never once making us feel like we had to hurry up and leave. Thank you!

It's authentically fresh and vibrant in flavour. I shared a few fishes. The chicken wings are probably the best I've had in London. Coated wonderfully. The main soup bowls are great in size and they don't hold back on the spice which I like. A proper Vietnamese coffee is a great way to end the meal. Condensed milk is just so good in coffee.
