Slows 'new location is a little hit-or-miss, but I feel the same way about the other location. BBQ is NOT as easy as some people might think. I lived in Kansas City when I was a kid and moved from there when I was 18, so I grew up on great BBQ. There are over 100 BBQ restaurants in the KC metro area, so I set a pretty hard standard. My four stars is for BBQ outside Kansas City. I'm a BBQ snob. This was a take-out order, but I only live 5 blocks away, and we ate right when I got home, so it was still fresh. It's a texture thing. Some of the brisket cuts were outstanding, and some were dry and roast-beefy. The outstanding pieces were REALLY tasty, the others were not. Chicken was a touch dry and not as seasoned as we usually like. Pulled pork wasn't very flavorful. Don't get me wrong. The flavor of everything was good, but not outstanding. That includes the sauces. Nothing stands out. The "NC" sauce was the best tasting. The others were a little bit generic. The value isn't great, but with meat prices the way they are, that's par for the course, and they need to make a profit. Expect to pay $25 per person without alcohol. As a Berkley resident, I'm very glad they moved here and think it's a great addition to the city, and I hope people give them a chance. read more

No sides with the BBQ dishes, that's not cool. Everything is à la carte, except the combos. Tim is waiting on us, he's attentive. We ordered the two of it's legit of the pulled chicken with coleslaw, waffle fries, side salad, a half pulled chicken, Caesar, less croutons, side of Mac N cheese, extra corn bread. $59.18 Caesar salad and side salad are okay. The cucumbers on the side salad were rather wrinkled and dried out. The dressing on the side salad is at least good. The waffle fries aren't bad, just salted, quite plain. I like the places that season the dip before frying. Still cooked perfectly. The chicken is cooked in the sweeter BBQ, dipped it in the hot BBQ sauce to cut the sweetness some. Their coleslaw is not good. It comes out swimming in the creamy sauce. I prefer less creamy and more of a vinaigrette dressing on my coleslaw. The corn bread is dry as a bone. Had to dip in the spicy BBQ sauce to get it down. No BBQ sauce that suits me here. The spicy has an odd consistency, not smooth at all. The apple and sweet is too sweet for me. The NC and mustard doesn't work for me either. My pulled chicken was okay, until I bit down on some cartilage. My husband took over my chicken since I was done after the cartilage encounter. This place deserves more seating! if you ever stop in downtown Berkley this is the spot for Southern American BBQ, the sauces range from mild to medium there's not too much in the hot range but you don't need it at a place like this the meats taste so incredibly well you'll find the only way you put those sauces on a plate is for your fries. Don't be afraid of the bar designation the menu is small but the cooking is superb. read more

This is the second time that I have tried slows, I am just not a fan. I'm not really sure what the hype is? The only saving grace is our waiter was very nice and very efficient. I had to have slab of ribs they were dry and tough. Mom's green beans were not what I expected. I figured it would be something along the lines of Southern green beans made with bacon and onions instead it was in this very odd mustard vinaigrette. I think if the beans were cooked ? That might have helped them. We were there at 4:00 in the afternoon and like corn bread was dry. Slow's BBQ in Berkley absolutely lived up to the hype. I used to go to Slow's in Detroit all the time before the pandemic, so when I heard they were opening a location here, I was genuinely excited--especially since it's literally on my way home from work. The vibe inside is really cool and laid‑back, making it a perfect spot to meet up with friends. We came in on a Tuesday and decided to mix things up from Taco Tuesday with some serious BBQ. I ordered the Big Three with baked beans and sweet potato mashed potatoes, and everything was outstanding. The brisket was tender and packed with flavor, the pulled pork was just as delicious, and the sides were spot on. Honestly, everything about the meal was great. I even had leftovers--which never happens--and that midnight snack later on sealed the deal. If the food is still amazing hours later, you know it's legit. Good service. I remember the downtown flavors from when I used to live here. Came back this weekend wanting BBQ. Maybe it's my memory or the location, but this menu seemed shorter. It was okay, just medium. I had the Reason. The pickles are great, the Cole slaw not so much. I love a cabbage crunch! The slaw was overdressed, so the sandwich was soggy when it arrived. It seemed more slaw than pork. In the future, if I were to return, I would ask for the slaw on the side. They should have a sieve to drain the slaw going on sandwiches. The bread was a mess. The Texan was okay. My niece who hates cheese, noticed that the fries didn't mention they would be smothered in cheese. So that was a wasted side. And it was cold and congealed pretty quickly so not shareable. The BBQ in my home town is so much better, if I have a hunger for it, I'll support my home places. read more

The Berkley location is nice inside and out. The service was excellent Dan waited on us and was very polite and professional. He helped with our order and was always available if we needed anything. The food was good but the Detroit location was better because the meat and sides were cold when I got to them.. I think it was because the place was very cold. They had the air way too high. Came here on a Thursday night at about 6pm. It wasn't really busy, but we still had to wait a little bit. Still, we had no trouble finding parking and were seated in just a couple minutes. Although seated right by the door and hostess stand, we were right under the ceiling vent and were thus reasonably warm. Drinks came out quickly and also the food. I order the same thing at every BBQ place--pulled pork sandwich--and this one was in my top 10. Fantastic sauces for all different flavor profiles and preferences, and the large pickles and coleslaw were not too dry or sour. Great food for a reasonable price. read more

The worst barbecue meal I've ever had. The ribs were cold, fatty & tasteless. The coleslaw was drenched in mayo. The baked beans were mainly brisket in a ketchup based sauce. Not many beans that I could find. Very disappointing dinner. Service was OK. Dinner came quickly. However, I was never asked by the server during the course of the meal if things were Ok or if I needed something. The only time I saw the server again was when she came to give me the check. The meal was barely eaten. The inside of the restaurant was very nice. Too bad the food was no good. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

First thing you'll notice is a glaring lack of ANY smoke smell when walking in the door. Nor is there any scent drifting thru the neighborhood for those smokers. The food reflects this. It's cooked offsite and simply warmed up. It's not even "decent" BBQ for the price. The place is realistically a BAR that servers food. It's LOUD AF in there. Wife & I went there (Berkley) Sunday 5/3/26 for lunch. They only had baby back ribs they were overcooked and dry, lacked flavor and their sauces didn't help. We shared a combo plate with baby backs,brisket and apple pulled chicken. I was hesitant to get the chicken but that was the closest thing to BBQ on the plate. The corn bread was store bought. I've always wanted to try Slows but will NEVER go again. On a scale of 1-10 I'd struggle to give it a 5. I've been to many BBQ spots and this was the worst. The waitress was a 10! read more

Typically I don't even crave BBQ but we went here last night and loved everything we ordered! The wings were perfection and the mac and cheese was delicious! We took my dad there for his birthday. Although the wait was longer than expected for our party of 5, it was worth it. Once seated, the manager greeted us, apologized for the wait and provided us with complimentary appetizers. Our server, Stephanie, was very kind, attentive, and patient. I very much appreciate the staff and the manager for taking care of us. On 2/3/26 my family and I encountered an unexpectedly longer wait than projected but the staff and manager went above and beyond to get us seated and were gracious enough to give us a complementary appetizer for our trouble. They didn't have to do that but it was incredibly sweet!!! On top of that our waitress was very friendly and we loved her positive vibe! The food was very VERY good too! He liked the brisket sandwich a lot but at almost 20.00 it came with zero sides. He paid more for an order of fries and when they came out he had like 6 fries in a bowl.
