Slow Hand Barbecue place

They have a great menu & a nice choices of barbecue sauces to choose from. I do recommend that people go and try this place out. It's a very nice and quaint atmosphere.

There is plenty of parking. You walk up to the counter and order. The staff is very pleasant. The place is very clean. You will notice a barbecue theme. I ate there twice while working in Peoria, IL. The food was excellent. I loved the beer cheese for my fries. The brisket was very good. There are a variety of barbecue sauces to try.

Smoked turkey and Mac n cheese

Eaten here several times over the years but the last few times has been so good! Smoked turkey is my fav. My husband likes the brisket chili even in the summer. Had pimento dip one night with homemade chips (be sure to ask for them unless you like pork rinds). The Mac n cheese was the perfect side!

Really enjoyed the great eats and atmosphere. Prices were consistent with the size of portions. Quick service. They also have a good beer selection and outdoor seating.

double smash with bacon, fries, and mac.

best burger in town, great portions, absolute quality. amazing service as well, and these chefs are cooking!

Austin sandwich and potato salad

Approved. After living in Texas for 4 years, I'm apprehensive to try BBQ places in other places. It was delicious and four of us at the table all got different items. I got the Austin sandwich and potato salad. Brisket was good, not dry and the sauces were good too! Food was delivered just a few minutes after sitting down.

Small portion of all the meats. Wow. Don't sleep on the cauliflower

Okay. Wow. How do I review this place? As a Memphis-born, Texan-raised foodie traveller... How do I review this place? Part of me says it has a lot of potential and deserves a 3. Another part of me recognizes that I haven't tasted something on this level outside of Texas and Tennessee in a long time... Let's look at each item. I did a 4 oz of all the meats. Let's go worst to best. Ribs. Good seasoning and flavor. Too small too dry. Chicken. Much too dry. Great first bite. But everything else required sauce. Sausage. Much too dry. The sauce made it better Pulled pork. Yes I know. My bar is astronomical. But this started off great. Dried too quickly. A little too much salt. Edges rocked Brisket. Okay okay. Stepping into the realm. Good ring. Great moist texture. Solid. Cauliflower. On another level. Next time I come it is no question... Full order of cauliflower. Mac n cheese is good. It tastes legit. Bread pudding smells amazing. This isn't some gooey, gloppy mess of a dessert. It stands tall. They used butter and it shows. Okay. Call me basic. But my favourite two things are carbs. Womp womp. But this place has potential.

Bread Pudding Cocktail. Great dessert.

This place was a random selection during a conference. The food was just ok and didn't have much seasoning.

Been here twice and have loved it both times. The corn bread is great and the meats (too many to list) are fantastic.

The food wasn't bad, but it was nothing to rave about. My cornbread was hard and the brisket was very dry...

Excellent pulled pork, brisket and turkey. Some of the best I've had in the Peoria area.

Very underwhelming. Nothing special. Dry meat, dry bread, way too chewy. Workers weren't wearing gloves prepping the food.

However, for our Thanksgiving meal that we had early due to work, we ordered brisket and pulled pork as the meats in the family meal. They never opened the big containers of the meats for me to see if we got the correct items. I was able to see brisket in the top container and pork was verbally repeated back to me however they were reading off of the receipt. Well we got the brisket but not pulled pork. Instead we got super dried out chicken. It was too late to go back because they closed at 8. We had spent the previous 2 nights trying to finish off rotisserie chicken from Costco so the last thing we wanted was more chicken. It was so dry that I had trouble swallowing it. I sent a message and all I got back 2 weeks later was an email asking me to call and discuss the situation. This was after I sent a reply that I still had not heard back from anyone as of 12/7. No offer to refund or to make it right. I'm not going to call and discuss what I already clearly sent in an email and waste even more of my time with zero effort to make it right. I could have purchased 4 more rotisserie chickens for the cost of the container from here and been happier with it.

Review Visit: March 20th, 2019…read more Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. This fire was caused by barbecue sauce mixed with jalapenos. On a dreary and boring day off from work, I asked my mom out to lunch. Since she loves BBQ, I asked if she wanted to come here. Not long after that, the small lunch grew to include my sister and niece as they were also free and hungry. We pulled up shortly after they opened and must've been the first customers there as the place was empty. Upon entering, we were greeted by one of the chefs and he asked us if it were our first time there, as we had the clueless look on our face on how to order. He told us the layout is similar to a cafeteria. You order your main meal with him and then you slide down and get your sides/extras from the second chef. At the end of that is the cashier. I have to say that at every stop, the staff was patient and courteous to us ordering our food. The menu is posted behind the food counter, so you can peruse it while deciding what you want to eat. Once you are done paying, you carry your food to a table of your choice. If you ordered wings or anything that needed cooked, they will bring it out to your table. We all sat down and immediately dug in to our food. I got up to get ketchup for my fries and noticed they had jalapenos available. So, I snagged some of those for my pulled pork sandwich. That was a mistake but a good one. Hot hot hot! The first bite was the fire being started. By the 3rd or 4th bite, my mouth was ablaze. Between the jalapenos and the mixed bbq sauce (combination of hot and mild, I believe), my sister asked if I needed the fire department. I politely declined as I downed my soda and took some deep breaths to extinguish the five-alarm fire in my mouth. My mom got the 'Cue Shoe, which is their version of a horseshoe. She was in love after the first bite. My niece got some mild barbecue wings and chili fries. She didn't seem too excited about the wings until she got some hot sauce to dip them in. My sister got one of the turkey sandwiches and also fell in love after the first bite. She was so impressed that she wants to come back for dinner on her birthday. Price-wise, this place is cheap for the quality you get. My meal was $9 for a sandwich, two sides, and a drink. If you want, you can order just the a sandwich for as little as $4.99. I've been to a few barbecue places and this one wins on both price and quality. As for the restaurant itself, it has a heavy Texas theme. Texas license plates all over the walls. Wood floors, walls, and ceilings. Southern hospitality from the staff. On the back wall, they had one of the coolest things I've seen in awhile. A mosaic made of beer bottle caps. You can see it in the gallery below. All-in-all, it was a great way to spend the afternoon with the family. We left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. Those smiles may be hidden behind the barbecue sauce left on our cheeks from the food.

This place seem to have really good from scratch cooking methods and was able to accommodate our crazy allergies. Even at lunch, there was a lot of mood lighting and it was pretty dark. They had a lot of antiques and interesting furniture and decorations. As a family with young kids, I do wish they didn't see us next to the naked bodies in the artwork. It was very distracting for one of my kiddos during lunch. We were helped pretty quickly, but it did take a long time to get our food. Our food was outstanding. Everything was from scratch and it tasted really good. The baby really enjoyed it. This sweet potato fries are amazing. I was confused why the restaurant was so empty but perhaps it's because it takes so long to get your food? Or possibly Peoria I just can't support a nice restaurant like that. I was disappointed that I couldn't eat off the dinner menu. I was really looking forward to a few of the things on that menu. Perhaps next time we can get takeout so the kids won't get so antsy and try some of the dinner menu. Thank you hearth for a lovely lunch that was safe for our family!

The entrée comes with your choice of sides. My guests loved the brussels sprouts. I had the collard greens; the flavor was good, though they were a bit gritty. Overall, great food, service, and ambiance. We would definitely return.
