I stopped on a bus where I was riding with about 50 others, they were able to handle that volume of people decently well, we spent 45 minutes to an hour stopping. The food was decent, a bit worse than its competitors nationwide (like Cane's and Guthrie's) but still solid and the best in the area. I placed a mobile order at 9:10 PM today and was there to pick it up 10 minutes later as per estimate on the order. The fries and toast were cold and stale as if they have been sitting out for hours and definitely not fresh like the website proclaimed it to be. Our sodas were severely watered down and tastes chemically. Very sad and disappointing... will not give them business again and I'd suggest you won't either unless you want nothing close to your monies worth. We have become real fans of Slim Chickens. We live in Kingsport, TN, and drive to Columbus, OH, for holidays, etc. Slim Chickens has locations in both Ashland and Pikeville (we have stopped in Pikeville both times) and we wish there was one in Kingsport, TN. I have had a sandwich and their tender meals - both are delicious. We have stopped in Pikeville, KY, on a Sunday afternoon and the guy at the register has been great. Not only is he hospitable and welcoming, but I truly can see he cares about the customers. My only complaint for the Pikeville location has been cleanliness. We stopped, once, during a busy time and it was rather disheveled inside. The last time we stopped later on a Sunday afternoon and had a hard time finding a table without the remnants of others and their meals. I tried to wipe down a table with several napkins and it was sticky. If they kept this location a bit cleaner (the guy wiping down needs to wipe the tables and the seats) it would help. read more

Walking in I had higher expectations based on the yelp reviews for the food. The staff was wonderful and clearly things are made to order, but the food was ridiculously salty and the fried pickles tasted like nothing but salt. The pickles flavor barely overcomes the salty batter. The chicken in the chicken sandwich did seem to be a freshly fried breast; but again it was very very very salty. The bun was dripping with their mayonnaise sauce - just excessive. While a cute little place, not really worth the stop. When it's fresh it's great, but when it's not is bad. Slims food is delicious when you get it fresh and hot. The only problem I've found is it lacks consistency. Their food is very hit and miss. One day you will get delicious fresh food, but the next it's leathery and tastes like it's been there for hours. I haven't been able to find a pattern for this either. The restaurant was clean, well lit (not blinding bright, but not so dark you can't see what's in front of you) Person at the counter was friendly, took my order and I sat down. in a short time, matter of 7-8 minutes, my food was delivered to me. Chicken pieces were decent sized. About 4-5 inches long. Hot, fresh form the fryer. French fries were plentiful and also very hot. Also came with two slices of Toast. I picked the Mango Habenero sauce for dipping. A touch of sweetness from the Mango and some zing from the peppers. The chicken had good flavor, but the pieces were not as Big as a couple of chains, Canes, for example. But, still good flavor. Price was around $8 for the 4 pc meal and a drink. I was in Pikeville for a couple nights and staying at the Hampton Inn, and wanted to find a place within walking distance to eat. I lucked out and found a restaurant I'd never heard of before less than a mile away, and I'm so glad I tried it. For my family of four, I ordered two hungry plates and an additional side. It was more than enough food for the four of us. The chicken tenders are excellent, and each plate comes with two dipping sauces. We ordered the Korean BBQ, ranch, honey mustard, and Slim sauces. I liked all of them, and it really comes down to personal preference. They have a ton of sauces to choose from, which I think is awesome. So much better than the one sauce for all, a la Cane's. One reason I liked Slim Chickens so much better than other tender restaurants is because they have so many more excellent sides. We tried the fries, mac n cheese, and fried okra. All were pretty good, but I'm always in for fried okra, and it definitely didn't disappoint. If they had Slim's in Lexington, I'd be there all the time. Service is wonderful and you'll love having all the choices they offer. If it's nice out, I highly recommend the outdoor seating. Love slim chickens. I have had it in several Location. After I placed my order I was standing at the counter watching the kitchen and watch the cook with his rubber gloves on reach into the sauce bucket after shaken a customers order and feed his face with his glove hands and reach back into the bucket to put their order in the go container. I was Disgusted for all the years that I have been in the food industry most would've been fired on the spot. We ate here on a Sunday at lunch. Found this via yelp while traveling. It must be popular with locals as it was very crowded. I read comments about how nice staff were, but we didn't really find this to be the case. We smiled and were polite but all requests and menu questions were answered abruptly or not at all. First time here and I like it. It's all chicken so if you aren't a fan then this isn't the place for you. Slim's has only been open 6 months and when you walk in you can still smell the new wood which I found pleasant. The decor has a modern feel with lots of wood, tile and metal. It's counter service and the employees were quick and friendly. I had wings which were a little on the small side but tasty. Next time I'll try the chicken and waffle. Learned of Slim Chickens on Yelp as we were driving south from MI to Pikeville, KY. Had hoped to stop at the one in Ashland, KY but it was off our route so instead of picking any other "fast food" option we waited until we got to Pikeville to eat at Slim Chickens. They are offering drive thru, curbside pick up and carry out - we opted for drive thru, the ordering process seemed a little messy but that is likely because we had never been there and they didn't seem to know what an Arnold Palmer (half ice tea/half lemonade) was. As for the food, it was really good! Our group sampled the Cajun Ranch chicken sandwich, 6 piece wings, Smokey cheddar bbq wrap, fries, friend pickles and Mac & cheese. The Mac& cheese is creamy, the fries are seasoned and the pickles packed a little kick. The chicken was "real" chicken! Everything was wonderful. read more

He ordered the Slims Plate which includes 5 pieces of chicken tenders, fries, toast, two sauces of your choose and a drink. We were impressed with all of their homemade sauces that they had to offer and how delicious they were! My husband got the Slims Sauce and the Sweet Red Chili Sauce. He really enjoyed both of them! As for me, I ordered the chicken and waffles. It was a large waffle with three chicken tenders on top. Came with butter, hot syrup and a drink. Very good, especially for fast food! We thought the Mason jar desserts looked cute and delicious but we didn't try one. Maybe next time! We were impressed with array of tea - they had sweet, unsweet, raspberry, and peach flavored teas. They changed the chicken since they opened and it is t as big or as tasty as it was. That being said they have been open to the public offering dine in and I respect that. They didn't follow with the others and take advantage of not having to maintain dining area and restrooms so a big thumbs up to them for that and their new chicken sandwiches are delicious!!! read more

Delicious! We're visiting from Michigan (my Mom is in Pikeville) hospital and have eaten here the past 2 days! Definitely better eaten in restaurant vs carry out (we've had both). I got the grilled tenders both days... First with fried okra, second with mushrooms. Both were good but okra can't be beat and they give you a ton! Only wish they had a hotter sauce, I've gotten the 'Inferno' & it was barely hot. Otherwise thumbs up! My husband is loving the breaded tenders & fries. I try to tell everyone I know about Slim Chickens. Easily my favorite place in Pikeville to eat. I always order the same thing; Slims plate, shaken in Korean BBQ, with fries. For my sauces, I get 1 ranch to dip my tenders in and 1 Parmesan Garlic, to pour over my fries. (Don't question it, just do it) I'm yet to be disappointed. I switched it up and got the wings recently, which to my delight were some of the best I've ever eaten. Also, this place is very LEO friendly, and if you flash your ID/badge, you'll get 25% off.
