"Slick pig is a Murfreesboro staple!" We've gone a few times to Slick Pig and it's always good. We go on Tuesday nights when they have the $3.99 Pork Sandwich special. We usually get two sandwiches with a few sides! It's always pretty good. Half the time the food comes out mostly hot, sometimes closer to the room-temp side of things. It's a good country kitchen vibe with some antiques on the walls - including a few older tv's. It seems like they employ the local college students which is always good, they do a good job and are always friendly! Saw this place that got high reviews. My wife and I went on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 7:00 PM. 1. We tried to order a rack of ribs but we were told that they ran out of ribs. WHAT? How does a BBQ place run out of ribs early on a Friday night. They weren't that busy. 2. We ordered a combo plate with pulled chicken, brisket, and wings. Sides were baked beans, corn bread, and onion rings. EVERYTHING was served COLD except the onion rings. 3. The food probably would have been decent if it had been hot. 4. The place was dirty too. The place was being run that night by young twenty-something's. I do not understand how they get good reviews and stay in business. We ate some of our food and left. I'm from out of town, but I've been to this place twice on work trips. Each time I've gone, it's been with very large groups (30ish). The staff there has handled it so professionally each time and get everything in and out real quickly considering the group size. I can't emphasize the hospitality enough. The food itself is awesome as well. This most recent time I had the meat sampler and in order I liked the ribs, wings, then brisket. It was a little hectic at first, because you order at the counter and then go to your tables, so there was a huge line in the middle of the restaurant. I got a smoked brisket plate, it comes with 2 sides, bread, and a drink. I got fried okra and potato salad. I thought the bread was just regular bread, but the bread option was between hush puppies, cornbread and something that I forgot. So I got hush puppies. My brisket was very moist, I even enjoyed the taste of the fat. The fried okra was bomb and so were the hushpuppies. The potato salad was good, but not the height of my night. For a drink I got the sweet tea, and THAT was amazing!! Best tasting sweat tea I've ever had!! I had some the next day in my to go cup and was still phenomenal! I'm hoping they have a website we can order it from Arizona! I tried my S.O. Cornbread and I was not impressed. It was like flattened mini pancakes, and I could barely taste the corn in it. Booths and long tables fill the space and the walls have signs that would compete with any Cracker Barrel. Grab a menu at the door, walk up and place your order. The menu covers BBQ 101 items and the prices are fair. Pay, grab your number and a seat, and they'll bring your food when it's ready. The ribs are fall off the bone tender. Baked beans, fries, and hush puppies are all good. Portions are good. Given the food I tasted, I thought the banana pudding would be good. Sadly, I can't recommend it. We tried the pitmaster combo to split between myself and my husband which is what I recommend so you can try a bit of everything and then we also ordered a large fried green tomatoes which was the best I've ever had. It had tons of flavor in the coating and the tomatoes were perfect. The smoked wings are very good by them selves but add sauce and they get taken to another level that is for sure. We ordered a full rack of ribs, smoked wings, pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese, fried okra, fried pickles, potato salad, hush puppies. We'll start with something that usually doesn't make you sit back in your seat and say "Whoa, this is terrific!". That item is the potato salad. With a flavor profile that is surprisingly complex and a perfect texture, I can truly say, this is the best potato salad I've ever eaten...period. The ribs had beautiful bark and that classic smoke ring and were packed with flavor, both tender and juicy and cooked to perfection. The combination of perfectly cooked meat that you can pull off the bone in chunks delivers eye-rolling and deliciousness that's next-level. The smoked wings were packed with rich flavor as well. Keep in mind, these are not crispy-fried wings, they are smoked wings that are both tender and juicy. The pulled pork was delicious as well however, the ribs steal the show. Fried okra and fried pickles are perfect. Hushpuppies are perfectly tender and moist inside. I like to provide honest reviews and to that point, we get to the mac and cheese. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it's just missing that magic that everything else has. If Matt could get some of that magic from the potato salad over into the mac and cheese, there would be no item we've tried to date that is less than stellar! We wrapped up our trip with plenty of leftovers and grabbed some pecan pie and chess pie, both of which were great! One unique item you have to try are the fresh Pork Rinds! OMG! These are fabulous! They have two varieties, traditional plain salted and smokehouse. Both are great! Those leftovers - place them in a shallow baking pan into a preheated oven at 275 degrees for 10-12 minutes and they are every bit as delicious as when you first ordered them! It's been 10+ years sine I've been here and it hasn't changed a bit!!! The food is equally amazing. The food is 5 stars!! The execution of a take away order pretty much failed. There were 2 of us, straight off the menu items, nothing complicated or special. Not only were the orders packed incorrectly - but while fixing that realized they forgot some the sides for one order and combined our sauce requests into the same containers. We had to prove they forgot stuff and requested more sauces. The sauces we received were labeled as hot, medium, and mop - and all looked and tasted the same. The meat and coconut cake were amazing.
