I am delighted we found this place for our BBQ needs. Just 45 minutes outside of Nashville sits a house full of some of the best BBQ. We heard great things about this place from others; listen to the reviews! There is a huge outdoor yard where there are tables set up to dine outside. There are also special events nights where there is live music outside. This is a great place to bring family on a summer/fall night. The food was incredibly filling and hit the spot. The prices were also very reasonable for the portion sizes. They have three different types of homemade sweet tea as well. You need to try them! Lastly, we had the honor of meeting the man himself, Ray, who owns this place. He was such a kind and personable man who showed us true Southern hospitality. Ray sat down and talked with us over a meal where we got to hear the origins of this place. Outstanding! We're in our 50s and have extensively travelled the US and abroad. Wow! This is no "hole in the wall" rather a true gem. Found them by chance as I was picking something up from an auction at the storage facility next door. Best find in a long time. The entire vibe is charming and kinda cool (not expected out in the country). The staff are fun and engaging. The food is incredible. The not-so "Fat Guy" has won many awards for his BBQ and clearly cooks with a passion. We had both the pulled pork and brisket - mouthwatering. And if the sides were a test, they passed with flying colors. Baked beans were just how I like 'em and the potato salad was perfect (not too eggy, not too mustardy, no chunky hunks of celery, olives or onions). We will be back. Came today to grab lunch to go and we were sadly disappointed in our meal. The ribs were dry and not very meaty. The cornbread was changed to mini muffin shaped and were dry and had zero flavor which is a huge change from the big pieces you got before with ton of flavor and moist. The sides we got were mac and cheese, turnip greens, green beans and Texas taters all of which literally had zero flavor to them. It tasted like you took it out of a can and dumped it into the bowl and that was it. Texas taters weren't even cooked properly and were still firm and crunchy. Got a large order of potato salad on the side but haven't tried that yet to see if they changed that but I don't have high hopes. This place usually has tons of flavor and moist food but its almost like we just got food that was yesterday's leftovers or someone different cooked the food altogether and has zero idea what spices to use. If this is what it is going to be like from now on we won't be coming back. read more

Wow... where do I start! We moved to the area about 3 months ago and were hunting out the area's best bbq. Fatguy came highly recommended and we visited tonight. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by warm staff and the owner, Ray. We ordered pulled pork sandwich plates, a brisket sandwich plate and a Fatguy Combo w/ 3 desserts. They have a large outdoor patio and the dining room was cozy and comfortable. After a very nice chat with the owner, the kitchen staff brought out extra samples including chicken wings and even rib tips smothered in delicious bbq sauce! Everything was absolutely delicious and our family agreed it's by far the best bbq in the county! Ray was the sweetest and we will definitely be back regularly. We entered and were warmly welcomed. The atmosphere was very cozy and unique. We had the brisket, smoked chicken, smoked sausage, baked beans, potatoes (forget their name). He also brought us out the potato salad and mac and cheese to try. All of the meats were better than anything I have had in town, or really ever, and I've been to hundreds of places. The potatoes had a really great flavor with I believe chili oil and my wife (which doesn't necessarily like spicy foods) loved them also. I thought the baked beans were like Bush's which I love, but they were even better. The potato salad was evenly proportioned with spices and ingredients and was one of the better ones I've ever had. He was very hospitable and you can tell he loves his job. I would highly recommend going there if you are in Murfreesboro! read more

Fatguy Southern Kitchen is the place to be for Wing Wednesday! If you haven't made it out from Murfreesboro, it's well worth the short trip. 12 huge smoked chicken wings for $9.99 is a steal and available every Wednesday but only until sold out. Last week I stopped in shortly before closing, saw the special on the sign out front and immediately knew that was what I wanted. When I got to the counter they were already sold out for the day and admittedly, I was kind of bummed out . The woman working at the counter was so nice and said "wait, take this with you" and handed me a card with an offer for 6 free wings with an entree purchase on my next visit. Popular bbq joints sell out often. It's part of the bbq experience and this was the first place that offered me anything to come back. Instead of leaving upset they turned me into a customer that day. Fast forward to today and I had a game plan to get there when they opened for lunch. It was a different crew but the same kindness was extended today by both of the guys working. I was in and out in 5 minutes and decided to eat on the patio outside. The wings kind of blew me away by both the taste and size. They have the perfect amount of smokiness and seasoning, and juicy is an understatement. Here's my recommendation for 2 people. Grab an entree that comes with 2 sides and the wings. There will be more than enough food for both and a great way to try out the different menu options. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! TACO TUESDAY!!! I was in Lascassas and consulted my food list to see what might be nearby...lo and behold Fatguy Southern Kitchen was just down the road. I've enjoyed Ray's BBQ here in Murfreesboro so I was looking forward to his brick & mortar place. When I arrived I met Julie who took exceptional care of me and explained the dishes. Seeing as it was Taco Tuesday she told me the tacos (Ala carte) were discounted so pick what you want and enjoy. I decided on the Pan Asian Pork and the Brisket Pineapple tacos, these are no tiny street tacos. Julie also advised me she would give me some of the mango habanero sauce she recommended for the Brisket Pineapple taco. These are some of the BEST tacos I've had in a very long time. Incredible flavor, ample meat, fresh ingredients, and well-made sauces blew me away. The pork combined with the Pan-Asian sauce gave this one some serious kick, but not so hot as you couldn't enjoy the flavors. The brisket taco...my favorite hands-down. Moist, tender brisket in a slightly sweet teriyaki sauce gave it gentle taste, while the pineapple sriracha slaw was the wake up call. I did try a dab of the mango habanero sauce...too much heat for this wimp...LOL The taco shells were curious...not crisp but not soft and had a boat shape. I thought at first this was going to be a "fall apart" mess, totally wrong...the shells held up to the last bite. Finally...those beautiful pickled onions really add another dimension to the tacos. They have a little heat but the flavor really enhances the tacos. I would love to try them on a salad...hmmmmm Great food in a nice atmosphere and exceptional service. It's only about a 15 minute drive for me out Hwy 96...well worth the drive. read more

I grew up in Memphis so I know a little bit about barbecue. This place used to be in a little hole in the wall gas station in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I fell in love with their barbecue the first time I was there. I was glad to see that they opened up a full service restaurant not too far out of town. While waiting on a rib plate one day the owner brought a small sample of his brisket chili by the table. I was hooked from the first bite. I found out this was not a regular item on the menu so I asked if he could make some special. so kind of like the old commercial "special orders don't upset us" he called me invited me back in I picked up 2 gallons. Sounds like a lot, but you will go through this quickly! Great fun and the food is unmatched anywhere around these parts. Everything about this restaurant was a great experience. I went there with 2 of my friends and myself. The prices were an excellent deal for the quality and the amount of food we got. Not only that the owner provided top tier service as he gave us some stew as a free appetizer. We were given free refills. Last but not least we got to take some complimentary cobbler for the road. The ambiance was exceptional as the restaurant had a very homey and original feel to it. Stopped here aroumd 6pm on Saturday 8/26/2023. Have read really good reviews. Was not impressed. Our bill was $70÷ for 3 people. I had wings, mac, and potato salad. Husband had brisket, mac, turnip greens, and bbq sandwich. I forget what my daughter had. Mac and cheese had to have been box, potato salad was more like baked potato salad(which should of been served warm or room temp). Cornbread was good. Wings were cooked well but had no flavor. The good: *cole slaw was delicious *potato salad was very good *banana pudding was not bad. That's where the good ends. Now the bad: *the texas taters tasted like nothing. There was absolutely no seasoning of any kind on them. *the brisket was bland, and dry, and TOUGH. I've never had brisket that required a knife to cut. This one did. *the extra sides are $5 each, which seems reasonable, but the portion is ridiculously small. A total rip-off. While driving through Lascassas TN, we Googled "nearby restaurants" and found The Fat Guy BBQ. We arrived to an attractive, charming house converted into a restaurant. The interior was a basic good looking and very clean example of southern charm. Ordering was easy and you can sit wherever you want. The food was bought to our table. I ordered the BBQ chicken with baked beans and corn bread. The chicken and beans were delicious. The corn bread was average. My family shared the "Mac and cheese" along with the "potato salad." My son had the "brisket taco's" and wow, different but good. Everything we ate was delicious. And we all agreed we would come back again...and soon. The portions are big enough where many of you will need doggie bags. This place is worth the visit and the people (employees and owner) were great and accommodating. read more
