An additional hidden "drought surcharge" that is not shown on any disclaimer or your emailed invoice. You can only discover this fee on ONE page and you have to manually expand the taxes and fees after noticing that there should be no tax and that the fee amount is more than 5%. When we contacted customer service we were met with arrogance and disdain, and no customer service. We asked them to explain what the hidden surcharge was and they then told us to 'NEVER CONTACT THEM AGAIN'. ??? We have ridden here before and experienced the same general disdain in person. You get the feeling they don't want customers and the trail rides are the worst part of their jobs. I have ridden most of my life and done multiple guided rides across the US. Sunriver Trail Rides was the worst experience by far. Between the ride being shorter than the promised time and the hidden fees it is a money grab with no real passion or care. We recently booked at another ranch, and we will continue to use other ranches in the future even when staying in Sunriver.

Pine Mountain…read moreis a forest oasis out on Highway 20 that has an awesome observatory, great camping, world class paragliding and hang gliding. I used to drive out here with friends to go shooting and cave exploring and thought nothing of it for years. At first glance, you might think it's just another butte with rocks and trees. But after a few different trips, I discovered the observatory and a ton of flying paragliders. When we saw the paragliders we had to stop and ask the pilots about their hobby and why Pine Mountain. Apparently, there is some kind of wind phenomenon called "Glass Off" out there. I was lucky enough to work on some video projects with them and fly up to experience it.This phenomenon brings in paragliders from all over the world to this spot. Once a year the pilots will get together and have a festival called the "Pine Mountain Fly In" There must have been about 50 paragliders in the sky the first night I checked this event out. The Observatory is something that I have only experienced from a distance and yet to check out. But I hope to visit before summer is over. Overall this mountain is often overlooked when people plan their trip in Central Oregon which is perfectly fine by me. If you have the time and live in Bend. The stables are well made and clean; the horses seemed very happy and well taken care of; and they have plenty of room to run around and get exercise. The farmhand that I spoke with was very passionate about his work and loving towards the animals, and was friendly towards me too :) They also grow their own hay for the year, so the horses always have plenty to eat. The farm also offers riding lessons, and horse training for those that don't know how already.

Sawyer has a nice grassy area with picnic benches. There is a few different trails you can take including the Fishermans trail that goes down to a few different water access points. There are large rocks and great photo areas. We used to eat lunch on the rocks by the river. This park is also dog friendly and we met quite a few furry friends on our visit.

This little spot where the Deschutes River gets a bit excited, where a reedy marsh attracts birds, where the Deschutes River Trail passes through, offers a wonderful place to do short walks, picnicking, dog-walking or just lazy contemplation. You also can jump on the river trail here and do a longer hike. Robert Sawyer Park is within the city limits and comprises acreage on either side of the river, connected by a nice footbridge. Other than picnic tables and benches, there are no facilities that I saw other than one port-o-john. Access by car is from O. B. Riley Rd just across from the Tumalo State Park Maintenance facility (the access road is easy to miss). There's a small parking lot a short distance down the road that can accommodate maybe a couple three dozen cars at most. Open sunrise to sunset. The parking lot side of the park (east side) offers a picnic area and access to civilization via a paved path. If you step off the path at the bridge and head north, you'll climb the basalt bluff and gain some pretty spectacular views of the river from higher up. You can also head away from the river here and wander among the ponderosa pines. Crossing the bridge, you can walk either straight up the hill to get to the Deschutes River Trail (which is a wide, bike-friendly trail here), or you can take less developed, less obvious paths along the river in each direction and through the trees. There's a large, grassy open area used for ... well, I don't know. Playing with your dog? Frisbee action? Whatever, there are no sports-related improvements such as baseball paths or anything. I'm a big fan.

One of these is the Oregon Badlands Wilderness Area, located about 20 miles east off Highway 20. The Badlands is a 30,000 acre tract of BLM land that offers several trails that will take you into scenic lava formations and ancient junipers. It's a wilderness, so there isn't much out there except that, which is cool. There are a bunch of larger lava outcrops in the interior that you can hike to, including the Flatiron Rock. The Flatiron is accessed via a ~3 mile mostly flat easy trail from a trailhead right off Hwy 20. Or you can get to it from the Badlands Rock trailhead located off a short road north of Hwy 20. Google Maps will show all you need to know in terms of trail locations. It's right outside Bend. Go. Hike.
