What you'd hope for in an updated rustic old Vermont building. 2. The service has been excellent on both visits, with the caveat that breakfast is busy and the food took a long time to arrive. 3. Breakfast was solid. Not transcendent but solid eggs and toast and home fries and coffee and everybody seemed happy. Room for improvement 1. For Putney Vermont - get some decent vegan and vegetarian options. 2. The veggie burger was bean based, mushie old-school 70's style. Fell apart as soon as you picked it up. 3. The cheeseburger was good. It's just that for $18 you could show a little more attention to detail. A greenish slice of winter tomato. A single leaf of iceberg lettuce. 2 ringlets off an onion slice. And no pickle. 4. The fries that came with it had to be sent back to be cooked longer. And there was a big puddle of oil on the plate once I slid the par-cooked fries onto a side dish. The server was lovely about it and they came back fast and cooked through. But my guess is the oil wasn't hot enough hence the grease puddle. 5. The chicken orzo soup was meh. I don't try it. Brought it home for sick family member. And sorry but my personal pet peeve - the pre-calculated tip options were 20,22,25% and all calculated on top of the sales tax. Understand that it has gotten VERY expensive to go out for a burger for your average local. So putting a little more attention into it would be greatly appreciated. All the best, and thank you.

On the caterer's end, the cheese platter was good. The cheddar was the best from the selection. I personally would have loved to see more goat cheese and fruit. I wished they had napkins placed on the tables. The horderves were so-so. One was a quasi sushi roll; a cucumber website with tuna salad, ginger, and wasabi on top. The other was a pig in a blanket plate. I like pigs in a blanket...for a Superbowl party, not at a wedding. As for the buffet, they did a great job with the citrus glazed salmon and roasted vegetables. The spinach, apple, and walnut salad was okay, but it was hard to eat. I appreciate that the walnuts were roasted. I wish that there was a starch like risotto or gnocchi. FYI: Their coffee sucked to a point that it tasted like hot water. Either they need to buy Starbucks coffee to brew or find a person who knows how to make coffee. The people who were working at the event were very nice though.

Coffee grounds in the machine - 3 minutes. Milk in the cup - 3 minutes. Conversation with a co-worker about filling the coffee machine later - 5 minutes (in the middle of my order). There were hamburgers and fries ordered after my coffee that came out first. The final straw was watching them add 6 coffees worth of chocolate syrup to finish it off (they had already added enough for one drink 12 minutes earlier). It looked so bad I walked away before they could spend another 3 minutes finding/putting a lid on. Unfortunately I paid first, so I ate the $6 and walked away, incredibly disappointed. Well organized, easy to get in/out, minimal need for walking, and very little mud on one's feet. We pick blueberries each summer, multiple times per season. We have picked peaches in summer 1-2 times, and have picked apples in the fall a few times. Each time it's a great experience. The apple picking gets crowded, but never crazy. We've never had an experience where we were sent to pick in a section that had been picked over and had little fruit. Each time it's a great experience, both for adults and children. Well organized traffic, parking, checkout, bags/buckets. I can't recall a time I felt like things were crazy or disorganized. Prices are fair. The big bonus of course are the treats that they bake up: apple cider doughnuts, pastries, everything I've ever had has been amazing. Makes me want to move in and work there, it's just so wonderful. Highest recommendation!

Didn't realize that when I showed up but that's on me for not checking. Also didn't know that the Ribs and Brisket were specials on Thursdays only. So my first time around the only real BBQ that kind of matched what I wanted was a BBQ Sundae which I usually hate. Also the sundae had a choice of a Base and one of those choices was mac and cheese which I got ... but Mac and Cheese wasn't available as just a Side ... I don't know what was going on there. Also the second time I went in they told me that the Ribs were on Special on Thursday And Friday, Brisket was now Everyday, This and that on That Day, But that and This on those two days ... All Im saying that I was told something different than what I read on their online menu, So CALL and ASK! So my BBQ Sundae came in an oversized Chinese Take Out container and it was classic. Slaw and Pickles on top, pickles were awesome! Pulled pork in the middle and Mac on the bots. Pickles were like bread and butter style but had a bit of a fun heat kick to them. Slaw was super colorful and seasoned like crazy, not my favorite slaw personally, a very dilly type of slaw but I can see a lot of other people liking it. It's definitely made well. Pulled pork looked a bit more like burnt ends to me, some parts were tough but most of it was soft and moist and tasted good, good amount of sauce. Really didn't want to eat all the slaw and pork to get to the mac so I tried to brush that stuff away, but the sauce got all over the mac so I had to keep brushing it away till I reached the very bottom. And then I got to the real Mac and it was REALLY REALLY GOOD! Gritty Sauce, Black Pepper Seasoning with Other Great Spices almost like a cool ranch kick to it. It was easily in the top 5 best Mac and Cheese of New England. Second visit I got Ribs, looked incredible, good amount of meat on them, not too slathered in sauce. Meat was just soft enough and still juicy, meat was smoked perfectly so that the flavors of both the smoke and pork were still there. Rub was a tiny bit on the sweeter side, not a crazy amount of the rub, although it looked like there was. Sauce itself was on the sweet side too. Very good ribs Brisket had a great amount of Bark on it, looked a bit dry for me, a bit more like tough jerky parts. At least the bark was that nice black pepper rub taste like any great Brisket Rub is supposed to taste like. Had a part with no bark and it was a bit dry, not that smokey, came with a cup of BBQ sauce but the ribs didn't for some reason. Brisket seemed like it might have been smoking for a bit too long. So much flavor in the bark you have to eat that bark with the beef. "OMG" Grits. These are like cheese infused grits and probably some of the best grits I've ever had too. This was practically a dessert it was so good. I could just say white cheddar and something else with some butter and salt. Whatever the hell they have in them it's legit "OMG" BBQ Beans had a LOT going on. 3 different beans, Bell peppers, Onions, garlic. It was Extremely BBQy, to me I think this stuff belongs on top of something like rice or pulled pork or in a burrito or something. It shouldn't be on it's own, there is just so much flavor it's like a sauce that hasn't had the ingredients blended into a sauce yet. It's very good though, just very powerful on its own. Almost like a fun sweet heat banana pepper going on. Cornbread cube came wrapped in Saran wrap which usually means it was made awhile ago. Couldn't taste any sweetness, nothing special at all but that's okay. Potato Salad. Not overly seasoned, cooked perfectly as they break apart in the mouth super easy, red bliss style, tiny tiny kick, celery and red onion, just great traditional potato salad. Chocolate Ganache. I just got it cause it said it was low in stock. This looked like a twinkie made out of a tougher chocolate mouse. If you are addicted to chocolate you will love this thing. Strawberry or Raspberry sauce all over it, so powerful. Buckeye Brownies ... Good Lord YES! Rich chocolate brownie, Peanut Butter Mouse, Chocolate Ganache fudge top. Yes Yes yes YES! So really my only complaints are the communication on the online ordering, the beans being a bit too powerful but still amazing, and the brisket not meeting my own standards of what extremely good brisket is supposed to be. And on our second visit, Charcoal Charlie was loading up his trailer with food to bring to the Free Movie Night at Fuller Park right down the street. He was a cool dude! Definitely going back, this place might be in the top 10 best BBQ joints in New England.

Booked mike and ants for a smaller event and we corresponded a few times over email about location, time and price. Thought everything was all set, but he was a no show. Kids were disappointed, but it was a smaller event so we made an emergency run to the store for the ice cream we promised all the kids. Called him on the phone to see why he never showed, and he claimed to have not written it in his book. He said this had never happened before and he would make it up to me. Ok fine, mistakes happen. Give him the benefit of the doubt and book him for our block party two weeks later. Because of the no show the first time I sent a confirmation email the day before the event and he confirms that he will be there. But once again, NO SHOW. We had kids in tears because we promised an ice cream truck and no one arrived. I am completely shocked that a business could be so unprofessional. Despite multiple confirmations and affirmations that he would be at two separate parties, he never showed. So two times in less than a month he was a no-show. I would suggest using a different company if you want the ice cream truck to actually come to your party. I would never have left this review if this were a one time event, but for it to happen to the same person two times is a trend. Obviously we will never use them again and I would warn people about using them too.
