We've been fans of Starfire for years starting from their first store on the west end of Wilmington. Now that they combined with the coffee place and moved into the former pizza store in the east end of town, they have really come into their own. Pastries are terrific. Adorable spot with AMAZING baked goods! The cold brew was very strong and presented in the cutest little jar with a lid. We tried the Kouign-Amann (the superior choice to a croissant!), an almond cherry pasticciotto (not a pastry either me or hbubby was familiar with, but the marzipan and cherry in the middle were divine) and a pistachio orange cookie. They were all extremely delicious and held up well over the course of several hours driving to Maine. We hope to stop in again on our way home! I will not make the mistake a second time of viscously biting into the Kouign-Amann in the car. the earth shattering crunch. A Vermont winter with snow made of pastry flakes! I dream about this bakery. Seriously. One of the best bakeries I've been to anywhere, and it's randomly located in small-town Vermont. You literally can't go wrong with anything you pick out here, but these are some of my favorites: - Black forest crinkle cookie - a soft but fudgy cookie filled with kirsch soaked cherries and white chocolate pieces. - Chocolate orange hazelnut cake - I love anything chocolate orange, and this little cake packs a flavorful punch! - Almond Pillows - SO GOOD, new favorite! The name is a perfect descriptor, and the icing complements the almondy flavor so well. - Savory scones - take your pick, I've had most of them and they are all good. Crusty on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Last visit I loved the swiss & scallion and the ham cheddar herb. - Pistachio citrus rosewater cookie "Flower of Palestine" - new to me my last visit, but all the above flavors were subtle and very complementary of one another. If you're lucky enough to be there when the slabs of focaccia pizza are out, definitely snag yourself a piece. They have to serve the squares in order, as we learned, so you can't pick out your preferred square (crustless center vs. corner piece vs. one edge crust, similar to people's brownie preferences). The flavors rotate and there's usually a vegetarian and a meat option. The lady who's always running the counter is so sweet and friendly! There are a couple of tables and chairs if you want to indulge immediately, but I'd say it's mostly a grab and go kind of spot. I hear they are switching locations to elsewhere in Wilmington soon, so look out for that! read more

Nice people who make, among other things, addictive peanut butter cookies bigger than a hockey puck but tastier than should be legal. I highly recommend Starfire and will return on my next visit. Great baked goods, but the experience just isn't worth the gamble I really wanted to love this place. Their baked goods are great when you can actually get them, but the overall experience has become too unreliable to justify going back. The hours are all over the place, and even when they're "open," they're often out of the limited items they serve. It feels like they never make enough of anything, and a sign on the door doesn't make up for not being consistently open or stocked. After showing up multiple times only to find the doors closed, open but not serving baked goods, the kitchen out of what we came for, or staff who seem dismissive when we ask about it, we've taken the hint. Great pastries and ok coffee. The lady who was helping me was very rude though. I got a lot of pastries and thought that they would put them in a box, but she threw them all in a bag which crushed a lot of them and then she scrunched the top of the bag, which made it worse. Was driving through the area when we passed the Starfire Bakery. The parking lot was full. I decided we needed to turn around and visit. I am so glad we did. The store was clean. The staff was friendly, patient and helpful. We selected four items and we were on our way. Each item was delectable and over the next few days we finished off our treats. Was very excited to see this new bakery open. Very popular after just a month- many items sell out early for good reason. My husband goes for the sweet - nothing he hasn't liked. I go savory. This place is no joke. They have a selection of perfectly-executed staples (croissants, sourdough bread), complemented by an eclectic and changing assortment of surprises. This is a place that knows how to layer distinct flavors and textures across a dizzying array of international styles, all of which achieve total authenticity. How a two-person shop can so expertly pump out such a large and diverse number of baked goods and have them all be fresh all morning is beyond me. Starfire Bakery opened their brick (wood) & mortar shop in Wilmington very recently, originally from Marlboro. This small batch bakery sells a variety of pastries, cookies, cakes, tarts, scones, pies, and other treats, plus craft beer in the cooler. This shop is pristine with glass bakery counters/displays, wood flooring, white painted walls with art and a few small tables. I stopped by recently for some treats. I picked up a Persian Love Cake ($6), Pasticciotto ($4), Macaroon ($2) and Oatmeal Currant Cookie with Cinnamon Icing ($2.50). Each of the treats I enjoyed over the weekend with my black coffee, since these treats were on the sweeter taste side. There were plenty of other treats I wanted to try, but I should be stopping in again very soon since I drive through Wilmington quite often between NH and NY. read more

This is not just good for "being in a small town" but one of the best I've had compared to many large cities. This. Place. Is. Next. Level. We loved everything we tried (cookies, cakes, scones, brownies, and pastries alike). Every treat is tasty, elegant, well-portioned, and reasonably priced. And the staff is so knowledgable. And they are more friendly than is normal for Vermont, but equally as helpful. And Starfire is conveniently located. The shop is a small farmhouse just west of downtown Wilmington right off Route 9. Creative and well-made pastries! Wonderful texture in the cookies, scones and croissants. Sometimes bakeries can get a signature taste going that can be a little overpowering if you're not into it but this is not that kind of bakery. Everything we tried was wonderful, distinct in crumb and taste. I wasn't prompted to write a review, I just wanted to leave this out there for anyone else who was on the fence and skeptical that a small place could make wonderful baked goods. They're wonderful. There is no doubt that Starfire Bakery has wonderful items. So delicious. We ordered cupcakes for our Wedding and the cupcakes were amazing! However, their customer service is lacking. All orders are handled online. Again this is fine. The short coming happened when it came to communication. Emails would take a week or more to be answered. In addition, when I stopped into the bakery I was met by rudeness by the male owner. This business would benefit from having and assistant to handle communication! read more

The sheer variety of pastry items in this fantastic little European bakery in the middle of small town Vermont is mind-blowing. How can I not try one of everything? Oh, yeah...the artisan bread, too!! I don't know whether to be sad that this shop is so far from home or glad, because I'd have to stop in every single day. I am always greeted with a friendly employee who seems to love the place as much as I do. When they were out of bread, she went back to the kitchen to find out when the next batch would be ready. I know that one of my best 2022 summer memories will be the moment I walked into into this bakery. Hungry after a failed attempt to be seated for breakfast elsewhere at a spot in a nearby town, and amid protests from my teenager ("a bakery? For breakfast?!"), I requested that my husband pull into the parking lot. Amid more questions I said, "I'm going in to check it out." The smell of the baked goods nearly brought a tear to my eye. Back to the car with a command to my family: Come. In. Loved watching their faces as they took it in! We got a lovely assortment (savory scone, croissants, cookies) and delicious, super hot A1 coffee. Parked downtown and spread it all out on the car dashboard. I bought a selection of items including bread, cookies, scones, croissants and a slice of tart-like cake. Each item was truly the most perfect version of what it was. The croissant brought me right back to Paris, the savory scone transported me to my favorite breakfast cafe in London. Even the coffee was memorable.... The menu had such an array of exotic pastries and baked goodies, I simply can't wait to be able to go and try new flavors! The aroma captures you the minute you open the door to step in, the food leaves your mouth craving more! Wow! I was so impressed to find this little piece of heaven today. From the moment we opened the door to this quaint charming bakery it brought a smile to our face. The interior is welcoming to pick out your goodies and sit and eat your selection. The counter is filled with scrumptious goodies that is extremely hard to just get one ( we couldn't !) We had the ham and cheese croissant which was out of this world It was warm, flaky and buttery so delicious. I also got the coffee cake which was the best I had ever. It had crunchy top and the interior was moist and so yummy. We got three other goodies which we can't wait to bite into. The service was impeccable. She was friendly from the moment I walked in.
