We were having lunch next door and decided to skip dessert so we could try cupcakes and ice cream at this place. We absolutely enjoyed the store. I had a gingerbread man cupcake which I truly enjoyed. My girlfriend had a blackberry ice cream which she enjoyed as well. The store had all different types of chocolates and candies. A very cute candy, sweet, ice cream and baked items store. We sampled a few things including the whoopie pies and it all was yummy. It has a small town feel and was very slow when we visited. They do have a restroom for customers and a few tables outside to eat your treats in nice weather. The people working were very young and not very knowledgeable about what they were selling but they were nice. Overall a perfect road trip stop! read more

Very nice young lady working; greeted us immediately and was both engaging and friendly. She was also very helpful in helping narrow down my chocolate selection. I opted for a dark chocolate orange slice, a cappuccino truffle and a dark chocolate salted caramel. The salt to dark chocolate to soft caramel ratio was exactly what I needed tonight! My husband got a white chocolate pretzel rod, and two tiramisu truffles. He was a bit underwhelmed with the truffles (not super tiramisu-y) but still a nice chocolate fix. So fun to bring kids here (adult kids too). Stop by the rack and get at least one glove and then either a plastic bag, brown paper bag, or folding box (white or brown). These containers will get weighed (sorry I don't remember the price per pound). Choose from many varieties of sugary trays in the glass containers. There is also a shelf with some old school candies and another with some English treats. I headed towards the back where the baked goods and chocolates were located in the glass cases. I love cream filled chocolates and selected a variety. It is rare to find lemon creams and they were honestly some of the best I've ever had, if not the best. The orange creams are my favorite and they make both milk and dark chocolate covered. The orange was vibrant, not overpowering and not overly sweet - so good! We have family with small children close by so we will definitely stop back when in town. read more

Stopped in here with the family after eating dinner at The Stage next door. Sweet tooth needed to be satisfied, and it was. The young lady working was very helpful and friendly. Lots of candy to choose from to fill your bags or boxes. Personally, I bought a little chunk of maple fudge, and my kids added what they wanted to the overall order. Prices weren't that bad either, considering the candy that you mix and match is priced by weight. I almost got a cupcake and cannoli, but I resisted, although they did look really good. read more

the candy is stale and tastes like some kept it in a cardboard box for 6 months before it gets to you. Don't let the varity fool you all of the candy somehow has the same stale fruit flavor. The fudge has a very strange texture that made me never want fudge again and by looking at the reviews I'm very happy I didn't get a cupcake or ice cream. I'm not sure how a business like this lasts. Very disappointing. I hope to see a better candy store next time I visit. read more

This is an adorable little place at the top of the Main Street there (on the circle). The ice cream was great, but more importantly the women that worked there were super nice. This is a great place to sit and people watch. Not sure when and if we'll be back in Keene, but if so we will definitely go back to Life is Sweet. read more

Super cute place and extremely friendly and helpful staff. The cupcake sizes were varying - got one that seemed mostly frosting with just a mini cupcake. Yummy enough. I wish they gave different containers for multiple cupcakes- it's sad to me to get a big piece of plastic that is not recyclable locally. At least it was thin I guess... please consider some alternative packaging such as compostable containers. Enjoy your sweets all! read more

I went to Life is Sweet in Keene NH looking for a gluten free cupcake for a friends birthday. yhey had a couple varieties to choose and I chose the chocolate/chocolate one as well as a funny bone and lemon which were not gluten free. After being shocked at the small size for three dollars per cupcake (not sure but the total for the three was 10.50) when we went to eat them the non gluten free ones were stale and the gluten free one my friend said was like a poof of dust. she didn't even finish it. So even though the candy looks great (I didn't try any) I would not recommend them for their cupcakes. total disappointment!!! read more

Your standard sweet shop with lots of "penny" candy and a few handfuls of imported goodies from Japan and Europe, which does make it more interesting. I wish the setting were a little more welcoming. Kinda bright, white and clinical. I get the feeling that I'm going to be wheeled about on a gurney to select my last meal just before the surgery. Cupcakes are tasty but tiny. Limited, but good, selection of chocolates. However... Hood's ice cream!!???? Yikes!!!! Thanks, but no thanks! Four stars for simply being a candy store. I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for their cupcakes. I had one bad experience. I put in an order for late night delivery and they never showed up. The owner not only apologized, but she gave me my half dozen cupcakes the next day AND sh gave me a full refund. Customer service? Oh hell yes. After that, I was hooked. It's one thing for a business to mess up and then try to get out of it, it's another for them to bend over backwards to make you feel like you are their most important customer. This is why a couple weeks after this happened I made a special order for cupcakes for my niece's birthday (which was a big hit!) and I still continue to frequent their cupcake selection. The flavored frostings they use are made with artificial flavors which spoils the whole thing. As an avid candy and ice cream lover I was overjoyed to see the shop, only to leave empty-handed after 20 minutes of no service and left feeling quite aggravated. I was in on a Tuesday, at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, I had to wait over 20 minutes to have someone come to assist me at the ice cream counter. After asking for a medium sized twisted soft serve ice cream cone, the girl behind the counter hands me what looks like a kitty version of an ice cream cone I would serve to a toddler and proceeds to tell me that it is $3.50.. The pumpkin cupcake did not have cream cheese frosting as advertised on the sign in front of it. It was a whipped topping. Terrible. As a Keene State College Professor, I know many students that have worked Life is Sweet. While the store has a great selection, I will no longer be giving my money to a local shop that treats its staff with disrespect. Having been an employee in town for years, there is always new staff coming in and out, and there is a reason for that. I have had several students work here, and all were overworked for being college students and asked to come in when they had class in addition to being "afraid" of their employer. She has fired employees for being sick, putting stools up too early, and sitting down for more than 5 minutes during their 8 hour shift. My most recent student reported that in an email received from her employer as to why she was let go, she had cuffed her pants at the bottom because the AC was not working (the store was a reported 83 degrees). In my opinion a candy store owner would want to create a positive atmosphere for their staff, not one where the owner listens to everything the staff say through the cameras and let staff go for making a comment about how unreasonable her hours were (working doubles and having no days off). I used to love this shop, until I found out what goes on behind the scenes, where college students are let go because they have one bad day. We are all humans and have our slow days. Also make sure to freshness of all items. Many items are out of date or gone bad and still being sold. read more

This review is based on when they were in their old location. I haven't been there since they moved & I've not tried their cupcakes for chocolates. One of my favorite "treat" spots in Keene. The best selection of "penny" candy ever! New, fun things like candy Legos & an array of "foreign" candies plus lots of "old" standards like wax bottles, Swedish fish, jaw breakers, dots, gum balls, sour patch kids, Mexican hats, etc. The loose candy you pay for by weight & yes, it is a tad pricey but it's a really fun treat to do every once in a while with the kids & totally worth the expense.
