We went to Slater's this past weekend. It is really the best pizza I have ever had. It is thin crust and so delicious. We got the Tuscan pizza which has meatballs and ricotta cheese with red sauce. The other two couples in our group got pulled pork and chicken sandwiches. They all raved about how good it was. I will always stop there when I am in that area, Loved it!!! read more

The pizzas are very, very good. The BBQ was average, I wouldn't get it again (brisket--fatty and dry). Slaters needs to have a sign at the door telling people to order at the counter and seat themselves. Too many people walk around confused, not knowing whether it is counter or table service. Also, it is cash only, so make sure you're prepared. They seemed very short staffed today, tables were left uncleared and trash was overflowing. If I was in the area again, I'd go for a pizza, but wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more

Keep driving - What a disappointment! We were a party of 5 and we arrived at the restaurant at about 5:15 pm. To be told that they could pull a chair up to a small four top for us. There were a number of other tables open with no one seated at them. When we asked if we could pull a smaller table off to make it bigger since we wouldn't fit we were told they there was a large party coming and they couldn't. But there was no one sitting at many of the open tables!! There were only about three parties in the building to begin with. Now we know why!! Skip this one they don't want you patronage. In a world where there are restaurants opening up all around I'd think they would want to keep business that walked through the door in the building. read more

Great find. We were able to grab drinks inside immediately then head out to our outdoor dining table. Drinks could also be ordered while seated but it was nice to have either option. Sat under the newly built lighted pavilion. We tried a 495 Southbound Pizza (pulled pork) - perfect amount on top. My daughter tried pulled pork Mac & Cheese. GREAT BBQ! Decided to stop by to grab some bbq after seeing it on the side of the road. Got 3 Beef Briskets orders ($12.50 ea.) and the Cubano Sandwich ($9.95). The brisket was DELICIOUS!!! The meat was so tender, moist and SMOKY! The only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because half of my sandwich was all fat. Which I asked to get another one and they gave me more hot, fresh brisket. The Cuban sandwich was pretty good, more like a bbq sandwich and not a real sandwich anyways. Overall I definitely recommend this bbq joint to anyone who's in for some awesome barbecue! read more

A solid 4 star restaurant. I see many review comments around poor service, I can only say that we had great service mid-afternoon on a Saturday. So service gets a thumbs up as far as I'm concerned. The only service related item that I'd mention is that I'd like if they provided those little wet wipes that are common a BBQ restaurants. We had a small order of ribs and a pulled chicken sandwich. Both were good but next time I'd ask for ribs without sauce as it was a bit too sweet for me, not bad sauce just not what I prefer. Overall a nice spot and I will return. read more

Went the other night for apps and a drink around 6:00 PM. The food was OK, not bad but not outstanding either. My biggest complaint is that they charged each of us $12.00 for a 1 shot vodka drink using "house" brand!! This is not a nightclub in Boston, it's a little restaurant in Bolton, MA. I called this to the hostess' attention before paying to see if perhaps this was just a mistake and she said no. Plus a little attitude that I had even questioned her about the price. I went there with my family during dinner prime-time (around 6 pm since this is the 'burbs). Service was friendly but pretty slow given there were only 2 other customers at the time we arrived. The key frustration, and what will prevent me from going back, is that 3 out of our party of 4 were not able to get what we initially ordered. Given the menu, outside of the pizzas, is pretty limited that's not a good indicator of their overall management and since one of the items was ribs and they advertise themselves as a BBQ restaurant I have no idea how that happened. Additionally, we ordered the smoked chicken wings as an appetizer and while the seasoning on them was pretty good they had clearly not just come out of a smoker or even a grill as the skin was fairly soggy so I'm guessing they were put in an oven to re-heat. The pizza I ordered, meat-lovers, was actually pretty good and quite filling but given the overall experience we won't be going back. read more

I waited 10 minutes for a table to open when another couple entered and asked the owner lady about seating and she told them it was open seating, first come first served. When a table did open open up I went to sit at the table but the owner lady told me sorry it is for the couple that entered after I did. How rude!!! Good BBQ and wood fired pizza. Pulled pork was tasty and tender, brisket was very tender with damn good flavor and chicken was shredded tender and slight spicy. The homemade BBQ sauce was good but less is more. We got sampling of sliders and a pulled pork pizza. The sliders were enough to know what was good. The pizza was good but a little less BBQ sauce would have helped the crust crisp and not get soggy. Nice place with outside seating and entertainment too. Try it, you will like it! read more

I love this place and I have eaten here at least 4 times. The ribs are some of the best that I have ever had. You get a huge portion of food with many sides, almost too much food to the point that I always have to take some home. I can't comment on the pizza or any of the other food as I have only ordered the ribs. My only complaint that I have is the bathroom, it is gross. I always find bugs climbing around in there and they also use it as their mop closet. They use one of those chinese folding wall things to put a bunch of crap behind. My 10 year old was interested in what it was and ended up knocking it over. I have gone in before and the sink wasn't working right. It's just rather stupid. Although, I have been in far worse bathrooms, just never at a food joint. Despite my gripe about the bathroom, I love the place and I always look forward to going to eat there. read more

I base this 4-star rating off of cost. One meal, a side of pulled pork/brisket, and a beer shouldn't cost me $37. With that said the meat was pretty good. Don't go there looking for full-on authentic smoked meat, but rather BBQ with good flavor. I judge BBQ and smoked meats harshly, and honestly, it wasn't too bad. The ribs are fantastic here and we order them regularly. Because we hadn't tried the pizza and it always smells so good, we ordered a chicken pizza tonight for take out, got it home and it was barely cooked. The dough was still doughy and everything was wet in the middle with the cheese, tomatoes and chicken. I called to tell them and even though the owner got on the phone(begrudgingly) and said he'd put my name in for a refund the next time we came in (which was fine), he hung up the phone while I was talking. I was going to try to cook it in my oven but when I used a large bbq spatula to put it on a pizza board, the whole thing fell apart. Everyone has a bad experience every now and then but there's no need to be rude. Great customer service leads to great business every single time. read more

Disappointing pizza. Red sauce implies there is more than one ingredient like spices. Nope. None. Straight from a can. No flavor in the sauce. Cheese also bland. One note mozzarella. They don't burn the pizza like other wood fired places I've been to. And their use of disposables - plastic silverware and cheap plastic plates - giving us paper straws doesn't cancel those out. If you want good fired pizza make the trIp to Rock n Coal in Bellingham. That is worth the trip. read more

I've been here enough times now to be sure of what I want to say. I'll probably keep going back, but you have to know some things about this place if you go. In short, with the multitude of specific and detailed reviews here saying some of the same things, I'm amazed the owner hasn't changed anything yet. Makes me wonder what's going on. Just figure out whether you're a take out place or a restaurant. If the former, stop pretending to do table service. And if the latter, get some silverware, real furniture, and a hostess, and hire people with waitstaff experience. If I could rate the pizza alone I would give it 4 or 5 stars. Seriously great pizza, even if the pepperoni they use is very greasy. The salads are also quite good, with high quality ingredients. The pulled pork is about a 3 or 4. No reason to leave home really. The way they serve is is also totally inconsistent - on a dry roll with no sauce once. Another time with way too much sauce. Another time on a buttered roll with not enough sauce on the side. Service is almost nonexistent. Even after there 20 times, I'm still not sure if you're supposed to seat yourself, or order at the register and pay first. The service is so bad that I just do whatever it takes to get my food. There is typically one person working the entire front of house, with another person or two in the kitchen. I have stood at the register for 10 minutes before while one by one people walk by and look at me, without smiling or even saying hi. Until I yell to get attention and inform them that I would like to purchase some food please. It's baffling. The owner is usually around, but he generally seems more interested in socializing than helping out. And when he does help, he seems as clueless as anyone else. I'm not trying to grind any axes here, just saying what I've experienced. Seems like a nice enough guy. They are not outfitted to be a restaurant. It's obvious that the kitchen is that of a cafe at best. There are really no hot entrees. Even the pulled pork comes out of the fridge. The tables are too small to fit even two plates. Recently they added these metal shelves to put your pizza on, so your plate is actually on the bottom floor of a little building, under which you have to reach to get your food. Ridiculous. Also there is no china - everything is paper plates and napkins, which with the greasy pizza is really a non-starter. I always ask for multiple paper plates. About 80% of the time, the food is delivered to the table, and then you sit there while the staff goes and gets plasticware and napkins for you. Awkward. Finally, the tiny tables all wobble on the (very nice) wideboard floors. And the chairs are something from a 1950's malt shoppe. Cute but profoundly uncomfortable. Oh, and they leave the TV on the worst programming sometimes. Seriously, just shut the thing off. We all have one at home. Part of the reason for that is the atrocious service. With only one person on the floor at dinner time, it is impossible to get any attention. I've waited up to 20 minutes just to get a check before. We've also had one dish served a full half hour after the other. The worst experience was calling ahead for a take-out pizza and being told 20 minutes. I arrived a half hour later (knowing they are always slow) and the pizza wasn't ready yet. They were working on an order of 30 pizzas for a local soccer team. Which is fine. I waited with my starving 6 year old daughter complaining about why we can't go home yet. 20 minutes later I asked about our pizza again, and the counter person had to go ask the owner about it. He seemed unaware of an order. Eventually he found it and said they'd be putting it in right after the 30 pizzas were done. I'm not kidding. Gotta make everyone else wait for a giant order, even though the oven can fit AT LEAST 4 pizzas. ANOTHER HALF HOUR LATER, the owner came out to where I was waiting and asked me what I was waiting for. I came closer to freaking out on him than I have in a long time. He patiently checked, then came out and told me they would be putting my pizza in 'right away'. I was there for a full hour waiting for a pizza I had ordered a half hour before I arrived. No one gave a s**t. No one apologized. Basically everyone that works there walks around like they're in prison, basically hoping no one figures out that there is no plan. The people who work the pizza oven have it made - they just stand by the oven and try not to be asked anything, because they also don't help. Sorry, Slater's. We love the pizza and will probably do takeout sometimes, but probably never on a Friday night. And I won't be sitting there to eat until it changes hands, buys some tables, hires a waitstaff, and gets real. Bottom line : pizza great. other food good. atmosphere cute but uncomfortable. service is the worst. And bring cash; they won't tell you it's cash-only until you've already been given your food. This place sucks! Walk in there tonight with a friend to a sign that says, "Please seat yourself". So, you seat yourself and after 10-15 minutes of watching the waitstaff talk to each other, still no one came over. At this time, a table of four walks in. They sit right down and the waitress (wearing a tank top in February and who is also serving your food...gross!) walks right over with menus and greets them. Slater's has been around for years; same owners but different businesses. When we first went here almost 14 years ago it was a plant nursery. Went here for spring garden plants and they delivered mulch. It has since gone through a variety of transformations, including doing cold cut style lunch sandwiches and local music. They have created a brick oven for pizza and seem to be transitioniing from bbq, which they still offer. We decided to order the ribs tonight, take out. They asked for 30 minutes and we wondered, is it because they're busy (which sometimes they seem to be), or do they need time to warm up the ribs. They needed time to warm up the ribs, which were smoky but cool and somewhat inedible. I wouldn't go back for them. Slater's should decide what they are and be THAT long enough to do THAT well. This constant shifting confuses people as to what to expect, and may limit their ability to do anything well. read more

I've stopped twice for their BBQ sampler ($8.95) which has 2 ribs, 2 wings, a slider (choice of pulled pork, brisket or shredded chicken). I've tried the pork and brisket sliders so far. Everything on the plate is terrific. It also includes a small cole slaw, barbeque sauce, and some mixed pickles and peppers. As it happened I haven't been hungry enough to get something bigger yet, but I can't go by without stopping now. They have a good rep for pizza too, but I haven't tried that yet. My husband and I went to Slater's on Saturday night. I have been wanting to eat there for some time now. We went about 5:30PM and then the nightmare happened. We went in, place was not what I expected. Pretty plain, and like a previous posting said, mismatched table and chairs. Just was dirty and skanky. Tables were sticky and not clean. We waited to be seated, and no one came. I finally told my husband lets grab a table, and see if someone comes over. No one came for about 15 mins. I finally went up to the counter, and the girl told me she would be by to get our order. another 10 mins, and I was frustrated. We ordered beers, a pulled pork entrée and a black and blue pizza and 3 trio pulled pork, Chicken and Beef Brisket app. Our waitress came back to our table, and they ran out of Beef Brisket. (AT 530 PM running out of food) Seriously!!! So I ordered a small BBQ Pulled Pork pizza. My husbands food came out 10-15 min later, mind you still not drinks came to our table. I reminded the waitress that we were waiting for our beers. She came back with my pizza, still no drinks. After about 5 mins, I finally went up to the counter and talked to one of the guys and saw our beers behind the counter and I grabbed them. Feeling frustrated, went back to my table and ate 2 pieces of pizza and it wasn't anything to brag about. I have had BBQ Chicken Pizza in Stow, at Stow House of Pizza. Now, that's a Pizza. My husband and I were ready to get our check, it never came. I finally went up to counter and asked the girl for a box for pizza and our check. I proceeded to tell her how frustrated we were , and this was not a good experience at this place. She really didn't care nor did she say sorry at all. It was 45.00 dollars for that food. What a disappointment to say the least. I will never go back, and I thought I should post my experience on Yelp to warn others how horrible it was. I can't believe Slater's only has three stars! It doesn't say much for the cranky pants YELPers who gave it poor reviews based on, well, I'm not really sure but I suspect Slater's has been the victim of food trolls. First, I would like to address the pizza. I have not had as good a pizza since I was in Naples, and I don't mean Florida. I'm talking Italy. Returning to America, Slater's pizza is the equal to Frank Pepe's in New Haven--- now a chain restaurant. Slater's crust is delightful. The wood-fired oven gives the pizza the perfect char. The pepperoni is first class as are all the ingredients. Now, the Caesar salad. It's perfect. It's not traditional but it's creamy and delicious. Plenty of croutons and thin slices of Parmesan. The only better Caesar is the one I make. Here's an admission! I'm not overly fond of BBQ. I don't like food you need to feel like you need to see your dentist for a cleaning or food you have to fight with--- like lobsters or ribs. The wings! OMG...mouth-watering, moist, succulent and very flavorful. Not crispy or dry. The ribs! Flavorful, meaty. Perfectly done. The meat falls off the bone! The brisket! On a slider, topped with Slater's BBQ sauce, it becomes a memorable feast. I want to end with a comment about the service. I have eaten at Slater's three times in the last months. With no apologies, I can't find anything to complain about! The wait staff was prompt, courteous and friendly-- in a west of Boston kind of way. I have to wonder about someone who complains about a waitress wearing a tank top in a pizza and BBQ restaurant. Next, maybe you want to complain about paper napkins, plastic knives, or forks? What Slater's is not is a Mistral or a Smith and Wollensky. If that's what you're looking for go back to Newton, Cambridge or Boston. This is a casual low key type of place. They have live music on the weekends and open mic night on Thursdays. Great beer list or the beer lover and a few wines to choose from. There is a fireplace in the middle of the open floor concept, wish it was on and I would have stayed there all day.... There is a tv by the bar section where they have a couple high top tables and you over look the wood fire grill area. Fun to watch the pizza dough get tossed in the air. Our waitress was very friendly and extremely helpful with helping us make a decision, it all sounded so good. We highly recommend the pulled BBQ nachos. These can be a meal all by them self. But oh so good... Melt in your mouth pork with just the right amount of charred ends. We then had the buffalo pizza. Again it was amazing. The crust is nice and thin the way I like it. I personally next time will ask to have my crust well done, I like just a tad more grill burn. But that's just my taste. The is a must stop at and a do again on my list. I have read the reviews, give and take. What I see Slaters as is a restaurant that serves what many people really love, good pizza and good BBQ. Together like chicken and waffles! At first it sounds like an odd combination but it's perfect. I had both, fist starting with the Pulled Pork Nachos, they were great, the serving size was big and enough for two hungry guys and two women watching what they eat. There was no fat on the pulled pork and it was done perfect. I received it with just the right amount of BBQ sauce on it and could have added more if I wanted to. I had the pulled pork dinner and it was great, a healthy amount of meat, I would have liked more cold slaw but what I had was fine. Real baked beans would have been better but they were the sides. The pizza was great, real Italian pizza, none of the Greek pizza pretending to be Italian, thank god, and they have a honest to god wood oven they make the pizza in. If that wasn't good enough they have awesome gluten free pizza too! To make it even better this place is affordable to take the whole family any time! Can you believe that? Crazy huh? What a novel idea, great food, good prices, real people. I can put up with plastic forks if that's what it takes not to break my wallet. I will be going back and trying everything on the menu. This is an honest, stand up guy, kind of restaurant. No facades, no wanna be's, just real. Funny when you can spend $200.00 on dinner for two and it's terrible and leave hungry then spend $60.00 here on dinner for 4 and are blown away and have to be rolled out of the restaurant because you ate so much!
