COVID was hard on everyone, but waiting an hour for cold food in a restaurant that was not busy is still not acceptable. The Albuquerque Slapfish off of Louisiana was disappointing to say the least. 30 minutes into our wait for food we were informed that the rice cooker hadn't been working all morning and did we want burritos with no rice. Why would anyone ring up an order and sell an item knowing a main ingredient is missing, then not inform our party of the missing item for 30 minutes? 45 minutes after the initial order was placed I received a cold lobster and crab melt. I do not mean cool, but cold, as though the sandwich had been in a refrigerator. The cheese was cold and congealed. 10 minutes later (a full 55 minutes since ordering per the time stamp on out receipt) we complained to the manager. I will add that the restaurant was not busy during any of our wait. The manager was handed an untouched cold sandwich and plate of fries. The manager offered to void our order, essentially giving us a refund, but stated then he could not serve the burritos which were sitting under a warming lamp behind him. We were told "I'm not giving you food if you're not paying." So after waiting for an hour for 5 meals we had 1 adult meal, one kids meal and 4 drinks. Beyond being rude and poorly run I'm deeply concerned about the food safety with fish if serving a previously warm sandwich cold is the norm. read more

Looking for something different the the same ol' same ol'..., decided to try this. My salad was very fresh and delusions! The citrus dressing is good. I had the fish taco and my husband had the bowl. After a long day, we were welcomed with such amazing hospitality by Phillip. He was not only super friendly, but made accommodations for us as well. My husband got the fish and chips which made that seafood loving desert rat extremely happy. I got the clam chowder tots which hit the spot and were a nice portion for a small dinner. The rice was crunchy, the avocado was not ripe and the peppers inside were noticeably old. The 7 shrimp inside were cooked fine but no flavor. The salsa served with the burrito was flavorless. It's the kind of place you stand in line and order the front and then get a number and your own drinks and head to your table. Food will get delivered, you eat it, and take your dirty dishes to the trash area. That being said, for one of "those" types of restaurants it's delicious! Slapfish is officially one of my favorite restaurants in Albuquerque. I'm so happy that there is now a location closer to me so I can get my fix. Service is always phenomenal at both spots. If you read my other review, I witnessed some amazing service from one of the managers at their Paseo location. I am thrilled to see that the same quality of service holds true for this one as well. Owner, Eric, can be found running the register and taking orders. He also offered us some complimentary calamari which was the special for the day. My favorite kitchen manager that I've previously worked with, Thomas, works BOH here which gives me more reason to support this place... or just an excuse to justify my frequent visits. My favorite menu items: Chowder or Chowder Fries Lobster Grinder Fish Taco Surf N Turf Burger And of course, they have the BEST options for soft drinks. I don't typically drink soda, but I can't resist the coconut, cucumber, and cherry soda here. I love that the atmosphere at Slapfish is pretty casual, and I don't have to dress up to get my fresh fill of seafood at one of the "higher end" seafood restaurants here in Albuquerque. Slapfish has been on my "gotta try" list for a while and I'm honestly not sure why it took me so long to try it - it's SO good! Being in a landlocked state, I was skeptical about the quality, but when you walk in and see the long list of daily fish options, I was blown away. On the shrimp roll, you have the choice of grilled or fried (I chose fried, which was like a beer batter consistency) and there were a ton! The jersey sauce was really good on the fried shrimp (I tried the awesome sauce on my husband's burrito and it was good as well) and the fries on the side were perfect (sprinkled with paprika and salt). My husband got the shrimp burrito and it was enormous, with a little bit of everything. They had a bunch of different canned beers and such, as well as an organic soda fountain. The Fish and chips is really good and I do enjoy the poke bowl. They have a small selection of beers on tap and some canned alcoholic beverages too. The prices aren't the cheapest but it makes it up with the quality of the food, batter isn't overly greasy or overdone like Long John Silvers. The restaurant is usually clean and the service is exceptional. I do find it a bit odd that this place doesn't have tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. I'm willing to drop a lot of money on these feasts, they're always worthy. This is generally why I can't, I just cannot, shell over hard earned cash for New Mexican ceviche; it's always funky, rubbery and downright sad. So, I've had enough from this Slapfish place to assert, without hesitation, it's the real deal good. It's that expensive, too. And I'll state this: generally, when I visit the little shacks by the sea -- particularly in the states -- I'm filling up on the basics, because fresh scallops reign supreme. I'll take a light dusting of bread crumbs, maybe some lemon, otherwise I'm good to go. In my experience, Slapfish has done me one better. The sauces are simply artisan, not the blah tartar you're used to but nuanced, herb infused house versions. Expect fine dining standards on paper plates and humble environs, lots of hot sauces and fast casual service. Good beers, too. read more

Soft. Shell. Crab. Tacos. Those are the special today. It's pieces of battered soft shell crab on a homemade corn tortilla, topped with a creamy sauce and lots of delicious, fresh coleslaw. The cabbage is crisp and fresh. Mixed with cilantro, pineapple, onions, and (I think) a little bit of jalapeño, it's so light and refreshing - an excellent balance to the fried crab. The tacos are pretty substantial, and a little messy to eat, but the mess was worth it. The lobster taquitos were delicious. Usually when you order something like that, you get tiny bit of shredded lobster mixed in with a ton of sauce or cheese, but these had lumps of meat in them with fresh guacamole and smothered in sauces. They have a natural soda bar with really different flavors, like cucumber and coconut. SO GOOD! I don't normally drink sodas but I had to try a little. Service was outstanding - the staff is very friendly and genuine. It seems that they work hard and care about the Customer's experience. They gave my 3-year-old a kids menu and crayons, and they have good choices on their kids menu. We spoke to the owner, who told us that they order all of their seafood fresh every day, and it's overnighted from Alaska, Maine, Boston, wherever they order from. It's so hard to find fresh, quality seafood out here for a decent price, and they certainly meet the demand. I will definitely come back here, knowing I can bring my small kids. read more

This place is great and consistently good. It is on the pricier side, which can be a deterrent if you're looking for a cheap meal. But Slapfish consistently delivers high quality food that is worth the price. This most recent time, I tried the Clobster Grilled Cheese which is exactly what it sounds like; a grilled cheese sandwich with lobster served with a side of fries. I was surprised by how much lobster was in the sandwich - a lot! Not only was the sandwich filling, but the fries were delicious as well. I even ordered a small bowl of clam chowder which was also very delicious. Next time I go I want to try the clam chowder fries which sound incredible. I think that this place is great if you're looking for a nice quick seafood fix. I did pay almost $20 for the grilled cheese and soup, but keep in mind that the portions are large! This place apparently just opened 3 hours ago, so I'm lucky to be one of their first guests. Lots of great seafood options including fresh caught fishes of the day. What is available is really amazing, from mahi mahi to tilapia to barramundi. You can get the seafood in a taco, in a roll, in a sandwich, in a bowl. I wasn't being too adventurous today and I got the fish n chips. You can get the fish grilled (A plus in my book)! Portion sizes are reasonable (not humongous). Food tasty. Visit #1: We came in recently and was a quiet night when we arrived, but certainly picked up by the time we left. Having tried the Paseo location before (the clobster is still one of my favorites), I generally think that i prefer this location slightly more due to more parking and friendly, helpful staff (not that the other location doesn't have friendly staff). As part of a yelp elite perk, I got an appetizer, entree, and drink to choose from. I got the lobster taquitos for my appetizer and torn between the lobster roll and the shrimp burrito for the entree. I went with the shrimp burrito (I asked the server which one she recommended and this one was a clear winner to her). The lobster taquitos came out quick, hot on the inside, and filled with soft, flaky, buttery lobster meat. Loved them. The sauce on top added a little zing to it. There were several different sodas and sangria tea to choose from, but my #1 is clearly the coconut soda. So good! The shrimp burrito (I got it with fried shrimp) was loaded with light battered shrimp that your tastebuds would remember. The fries were a great addition in the burrito, but I think fries would've been better as a side instead of the chips and salsa (the chips were fine but could've used some extra seasoning to it in my opinion?). The portion big enough that I had me the other half of the shrimp burrito for lunch. In addition, my mom got the ultimate fish taco (not pictured). A huge portion, but think her tortilla was warmed too long as it came out slightly hard... My dad also got the shrimp burrito with grilled shrimp, but there was no evidence left for a photo. (Safe to say, I think he liked it). As I keep saying, the only problem with Slapfish is that there are so many other things that I'd like to try on the menu. I was so excited about this new place I kept hearing about, how great it is. So off we went! I ordered the epic shrimp burrito and my husband ordered the fish and chips. Let me say first say I hate to always sound negative about my reviews but that what this is to let you know my opinion and my experiences. The epic shrimp burrito? Where was my shrimp?? The size was great but the plate was so small, I couldn't fit it on to eat it, what was mostly rice and fries no shrimp. The sauce was overwhelming and too pungent for my taste. Now my poor husband he ordered fish and chips that looked burnt and the fish itself was supposedly this really great piece of white fish, that looked like a yucky sardine covered in beer batter and was super oily, not regular oil from being deep fried but soaked in oil for days . Yuck!! The lovely lady said it was on special today so we weren't charged more. Cringe!!! I really wanted the lobster roll but at 22.00 bucks not on my budget lol so all in all this wasn't worth the money of $37.00 bucks for a no shrimp epic burrito and burnt oily fish and chips. Took the rest to go in their very small to go boxes. What an excellent find for seafood in ABQ! I ordered a halibut fish taco and a shrimp cocktail, and it was delicious but too much. The shrimp cocktail had 15 good-sized shrimp, a meal in itself! The halibut taco was huge and delicious. I am super happy to have found this place because it is near my work, new go-to lunch place. Great selection of fresh seafood, flown in daily. Kind of has a New England coast 'Fish Shack' feel in the middle of a strip mall. Manager (owner?) is hyperaware of providing top quality seafood, and really knows his fish. Ask him about any of it and he is a wealth of info. Staff very friendly. You can get anything cooked to your liking - fried, grilled, beer battered, etc. Good sized portions. Have had halibut and a couple of other kinds cooked in a variety of ways, and all good. Lobster Roll looks good too, but haven't tried yet. Clam Chowder is, IMHO, near perfect. Creamy, tasty, full of potatoes, clams, etc. I don't need the chopped bacon on top, but I know everyone else does. And fountain drinks really good! I've been coming here since i first discovered it about 5 or 6 years ago. I loved it at first but then over the years they went through some owners who weren't that gr. That isn't the case anymore. The new owners are great! The menu has been really simplified and the food is great. If you've been here before and then stopped coming because of the food or service, I would recommend giving Slapfish another chance. They've really improved the customer experience. This place is awesome. The restaurant was clean and well lit, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the ultimate fish taco, the fried pickles, Lobster Grinder, and the Lobster taquitos. Everything tasted amazing. The Ultimate Fish Taco was large enough to make two tacos. I had to eat half of the fish before I could fold the taco. The fried pickles were a little different than I expected but taste really good. They were spares not pickle chip like I have always seen, but like I said they taste really good. I do reccomend getting the lobster taquitos with there house made tater sauce. Last but not least the lobster grinder, small but packed a lot of flavor.
