The yard drink

I loved everything we had at Skylarks. We randomly stopped here on the way to Seattle from Vancouver and I'm so glad we did. The building itself is super cute and old fashioned, we sat in the lower room in the back and loved the stained glass windows and views of the patio. We had steak bites which were good but a little charred for my liking, but we also had the French dip sandwich with the most delicious au jus and Cajun onion rings, and crispy cod and french fries. I loved the ambiance, staff, and food. I also had the yard cocktail which tasted like strawberry ice cream! I definitely recommend. I also loveeee the music they had playing. Definitely stop in, especially for happy hour!

I saw from my last Yelp review that I had thrilled to the Apple Cranberry Salad, so I ordered it again. (Whose Yelp reviews can I trust, if not my own? It really is a lovely salad, from the crispiness of the apple slices to freshness of the greens to the delicious teeth-grabbing gumminess of the rich and flavorful cranberries in contrast. Just a beautiful thing. I also decided to brave some beets! Why, one would ask, when why anyone likes beets is beyond my imagination? To me, they taste like dirt. I had a friend who used to make a mixed green salad that incorporated beets along with blue cheese. I first tried it "to be polite" and, to my surprise, I liked it quite a lot. So when I saw Beet and Goat Cheese Flat Bread on the Skylark's menu, I decided to brave it because I love goat cheese and I love a good flatbread. It was wonderful! No beety flavor, just creamy deliciousness where the goaty cheese nicely blended. Nice little dish to share too--and my companions loved it. Lavender Fields is a lovely mocktail (and a bargain at $5!)--you never see single digits on menus anymore--I had to ask if it was a mistake. No. Quite elegant and refreshing. The wonderful, attentive and charming Mischa was our server and bartender to boot. She made perfect choices for me when asked, bringing me a lovely wine to pair. (And she makes a lovely Old Fashioned.) Also wonderful to us was Brad. We had some special needs which he graciously accommodated. And the place is so lovely to sit in--just beautiful. And the music was incredible also.

Spaghetti Bolognese

After the amazing burger I had at Skylarks Hidden Cafe last summer I was looking forward to going back again. Since I love Spaghetti I decided to try the Spaghetti Bolognese this time, and I was not disappointed, my spaghetti was awesome, and the sourdough bread was really good dipped in the sauce. My friend ordered the Fish Wrap and that was also excellent, although she said it could have used more spice and flavor, so she asked for some hot sauce to add. My dinner was $25, so I think it should have come with a small dinner salad. We did order the fries has an appetizer and I have to say, Skylarks has the best fries, and the sauce is excellent. Our server was very attentive and friendly, and our dinners came out pretty fast, my meal was served hot, although the break was cold. I am looking forward to trying the brunch at Skylarks sometime soon. I also like to support establishments that have live music, and Skylark's is a huge supporter of the local music scene.

We had a group of 14 and they accommodated us very well. Everyone's food came out quickly and was delicious. I heard the bbq sliders were dry, but that was the only complaint. Would love to come back if I'm ever in the area.

Arrived for brunch on a Sunday. We had made reservations, but there was a ton of seating available. Skylark's is right in Fairhaven, great location. Really cool old bar when you walk in, ample seating. I ordered the fish and chips, was good, not fantastic. My daughter had the breakfast burrito, and her friend had the chicken sandwich. Overall good food, not fantastic, but good. Prices are a bit high, maybe because of the location? We ordered the toasted banana bread which was two slices, and it was $10! Service was good.

Meaning I actually chose to be seated inside. Staff were wonderful as ever--new people to me this time: helpful and charming servers, Maysen and David, and excellent barkeep, Marko. The beverages were top notch as ever. I didn't find an old favorite on the menu, so I asked about a drink they used to have into which they infused magically with actual oiled smoke of some sort. I don't know if I ended up with that, but they brought me the Seasmoke which was so extraordinary. I loved the dry Black Cherry Cider and one other whose name I don't recall (blond...and a little citrusy nice). Truffle fries were nice. Kale Caesar Salad is scrumptious. I couldn't resist adding some of their fabulous crispy chicken. You get a supremely generous amount of chicken for a bargain--I ended up with extra for dinner. Terrific place. Glad I happened by...

Pork belly was executed well, avocado toast was standard. I wish the fried chicken sandwich tasted a little less like KFC. Fries were good - not sure I would upgrade to truffle again. Service was standard. Not a fault of the restaurant but I tried to make reservations around 5:50ish and it told me no wait come on in. Arrived at 6:15 and was told there was a 40 minute wait. That's okay we walked through Maritime Park where the salmon were supposedly running but headed back due to safety concerns. However during daylight if there is a wait would be a good place to walk.

We were seated promptly by a friendly hostess at a table in DT Fairhaven, and our server was the bartender. After being seated, we waited a long time without anyone taking our order. We eventually asked if we had a server and were told it was him, with no apology or explanation. We ordered drinks and food, but after more than 40 minutes, we noticed two tables seated after us had already been served, finished eating, and were leaving. At that point, we asked for the check and said we would not be staying. About 15 minutes later, the server returned with our food instead of the check. We declined the meal and sent it back. He then asked if we wanted it boxed to go, which we also declined. His reaction suggested frustration rather than understanding. We never got to try the food, so we can't comment on it. The service, however, was well below expectations given the restaurant's reputation. This was lunch on July 15, 2026. We may try The Black Cat again in the future, hoping this was just an off day.

I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a young boy, attending special family dinners or just going to get pizza after soccer practice. Now well into adulthood I still find myself coming here with my wife for an excellent dining experience, any time or day of the week. This week we decided to go in for brunch, and I couldn't think of a better place to spend a dreary Washington morning. When you walk into this cozy little restaurant the smells of fresh breads and fried potatoes invite you into an elevated breakfast experience. Our hostess sat us down at a table almost immediately with the same friendly smile and welcoming attitude that I have come to expect from the staff at the fork. After sitting down and sipping of fresh squeezed orange juice we ordered two of our favorite breakfast plates. Chicken Fried Steak, and Corned Beef Hash. The Corned Beef Hash consisted two poached eggs sitting on a heaping pile of shredded corned beef that was both crispy and tender. Typically this dish is served with peppers and onions, but on this trip my wife opted out and the chef was happy to oblige our request. I can say from prior experiences that the peppers and onions are a fantastic addition to this mix. I went with the Chicken fried steak. A classic breakfast that requires a large appetite to face on your own! The cube steak was breaded and fried with the traditional seasonings, then covered in a house made gravy that was so rich and flavorful I couldn't put my fork down. I ordered mine with over medium eggs that were cooked perfectly, something that other kitchens can rarely get right. If you are a fan of Chicken Fried Steak then you must try this one! Both of our plates came with a large portion of golden brown home fries, and a fluffy biscuit served with honey butter and a peach preserve. Our server was extremely nice and very attentive. Although the restaurant was fairly busy she made sure our every need was taken care of :) I once again left the fork feeling full, and extremely satisfied. If the doors to this amazing restaurant are open, I will definitely be coming back again and again.
