So, you wanna throw yourself out of a plane now, do you? Well if you're going to do it, you better pick this place because they're the best of the best!
I'm not going to talk about the actual jump itself, simply because that whole experience was 10 stars out of 5 so we'll talk about the staff, the equipment, and the plane....which still earn 5 out of 5 stars!!!
First, the staff.
The young ladies who run the business office are teenagers, dying of heat, hormonal, and working for the summer, so naturally they have a bit of attitude. Customer service comes with experience, cut them a wee bit of slack, ok? So the teens with the 'tudes will be the first to greet you but from then on, the staff are FABULOUS!
Dan taught our class and while he was very serious about it, he didn't mind a joke interjected every now and again...say about the guy in the video for those who are familiar. Anyway, safety, following directions, and having fun were his main points and emphasized them again and again to make sure we got them. (Trust me when I say your mind is racing at a million miles per minute, so the repetition is welcomed and appreciated.) Additionally, Dan was extremely patient and full of advice when people stepped forward with questions. Remember: safety, following directions, and HAVING FUN.
As other reviewers pointed out, there is typically a wait time between instruction and jumping and this can be from anywhere from 1-3 hours. Why you ask? Well, they have to completely fill the plane with people who are going to be jumping at the same altitude as you so as to maximize revenue and minimize cost, I mean it is a business after all. Make sense? Think jet fuel, instructors, etc. What to do while you're waiting....
**stay hydrated, save the beer for AFTER the jump, despite the temptation
**solo jumpers will be sharing the waiting area with you, GO TALK TO THEM!! Some might be preoccupied but most LOVE to share stories, so go talk!! I met sooo many cool people simply by saying, "hello"
**watch solo divers and other tandems come in for landings, you are allowed to walk around the premises, so go WATCH!
**lay out under a tree and relax (or...try to?). How many other days do you have a few hours to just sit?? Good grief, take advantage of it!
Ok, so you've been waiting for an hour and a half and suddenly your name comes over the loudspeaker. It's time to head to the Gear Room!! That's where you'll meet your Skydiving Instructor. They'll get you suited up in a jumpsuit, harness, and altimeter. All of this equipment, including the parachute strapped to the back of your instructor is no more than 2 years old. It's new. It's in amazing condition, which emphasizes their concern for YOUR safety.
Once you are suited up and the harness is adjusted properly, you'll head out to the hanger walk through the jump for the 9 millionth time. Trust me, it's a welcomed repetition because when you hear your name called over the loudspeaker, everything is lost.
The instructor should ask for what kind of a "ride" you'd like so BE HONEST. If he doesn't ask... then TELL HIM! These instructors are AMAZING PEOPLE but they do not posses the skills as a mind reader. They won't know anything unless you tell them, and don't be afraid to call him out if he's not giving you what you need.
NOW GO JUMP OUT OF A PLANE!
