While the outside of the building looks like a smaller and less bedazzled building, it's in good shape and well maintained. The same is true for the rooms. Everything is plenty fine, clean, orderly, and not in any kind of state of disrepair. Staff is very nice and the hallways are clean and free of smells. It's a quiet place despite being right next to the interstate. The breakfast area is small, but it does a great job with what they have. They have folded egg omelets, Jimmy Dean sausage, make-your-own waffles, cereals, juices, fruits, carbs, etc. There is a small workout room as well. Next door is a Subway and gas station with typical convenience store items, and across the street is a home cooking' restaurant that locals seem to like. Driving south 4 miles or so will take you into Marion where there are many restaurants, Walmart, and other stores common in small towns. This motel is also about 4 miles from the Mount Rogers Recreation Headquarters and access to the Appalachian Trail. Bottom line, there is a lot to like about this model and they do the most they can with it.

Damascus Old Mill is a very good experience and I recommend you try it…read more This review is for the Old Mill restaurant. Overall, good. Atmosphere is nice with the river and overflow dam nearby that if you're next to a window you can see. Atmosphere overall is ok. Nice tables and chairs; outlay of the table is ok, nothing special. The sun blinds most people in the early evening at the restaurant. They have blinds. I think Damascus Old Mill is a solid 4 stars for all of their amenities, service, and food quality and quantity. Charles was our waiter and he said as 5 stars. I watch other wait staff and they ranged from average 3 to 4 stars. Some didn't know the alcohol menu as much as I'd want a server to know it. We had burger, sirloin and ribeye. All were good and everyone was satisfied with their selection and the food. I was disappointed in their ribeye. Good cut, but was undercooked for my medium request. The cut was ok and I didn't think it was as tender as I'd expected from a 21 day aged meat. It was ok. I would casually recommend it, especially for $50 for a ribeye. Desserts...absolutely delicious! I need to try them all. Overall, Damascus Old Mill restaurant is a recommend. I'd skip the ribeye and go their burger frankly. Ribeye is it all that for their price point.

I found this hotel outside of the nice part of Abingdon but still in a nice environment and easily…read moredriveable. The price was a bit high for a hotel of this caliber. I was okay with the halls being a little on the warm side, but the room itself was too warm when I got in and it took the AC long enough to get down to sleeping temperature that I didn't have as smooth a night as I was hoping. The shower wasn't the greatest, with the head spraying too widely and being hard to keep under control. Abingdon is a nice area, but the hotel was just okay.

Our visit was 21-23 SEP, in town to enjoy the VA Creeper Rail to Trail. Our room was clean, in fact the whole property inside and out was practically spotless. The breakfast was well stocked each morning, good choices for a healthy robust meal to fuel long rides. We had the pool to ourselves each afternoon, it was spotless and just "warm" enough to be refreshing and restorative to our old bones. The daytime desk manager was delightful! She was engaging, and informative about the area, great resturant picks. They made a conference room available to store our bikes rather than having to lug them up to the room (but they were okay with that as well had we chosen to do so). I would absolutely stay here again if in the area.
