It has been a minute since I ordered from this Skrimp Shack location. The only times I stop by have been for picking up orders for Sophia. I decided to order dinner via takeout since I had nothing here to eat for the evening. Let's see how this turned out. Placing the order online was no hassle at all. Minutes after we both paid our meals, the notification came that they were ready for pickup. And everything was packed up by the time I arrived. My order was a lunch skrimp basket with fries and I also added 4 extra shrimp since I was pretty hungry. For the most part, everything was good. My only complaint was the coating of the shrimp was coming off before I ate some of the food. Not sure if it had to do with moisture from inside the box, but it wasn't anything to cause a bad experience. It was a meal that satisfied my taste buds for the evening. Not going back. Im from out of town and I thought I would give this place a try. I checked out the hours on yelp. The place listed closing at 9am. It was 8:36pm. I called to check to see if order would be an inconvenience. The "manager" I spoke to over the phone told me that they stop taking orders over the phone at 8:30pm but I could drive over and order. I was only 9 minutes away. When I got there the doors were locked and I could see all the employees looking at me. What I could see was employees waving me off telling me they were closed. Stopped in for lunch takeaway. I'm not sure if this place is franchised, but I have visited their other locations. The hubs ordered the shrimp basket with fries, and I the whiting basket with hush puppies. Customer service was fine, but the tables could use a wipe down. They have their own packaged cocktail and tartar sauce when requested. Food came out quickly within 5-10 minutes of ordering. It was freshly fried as it melted the bottom of the styrofoam box. It is a small shop and holds about 4 tables I believe. We filled our cups from the soda machine, and left to eat the food at home. There were about 8 pieces of shrimp that were lightly battered. It was ok. The fries were limp, half hard, and cold. It tasted like leftovers from an old batch, and thrown in with the shrimp. The whiting tasted extremely fishy. The flesh is supposed to be soft, but it was very firm and almost hard. The tartar sauce could not mask or save it. The hush puppies were fine, and it came with cinnamon butter. This is one of my favorite spot for fried catfish and flounder sandwiches in the area. The fish is well seasoned and the portion is generous. Also, the banana pudding is amazingly delicious which I always get every visit. The place is always clean and the staff is super friendly! I've tried other places in the area but I find myself comparing it to Skrimp shack. This place is legit good tasting food and excellent customer service. I love that you are able to order online. You can even call your order in as well. Recently I went in person and ate there. The staff was super friendly and the restaurant was so clean and organized. I loved it. Our food came out pretty quickly. It was hot. The shrimp were so good. I love that they were a bigger shrimp and fried crispy. It didn't have a bunch of extra batter on it. Wow! The food was incredible! Simple, flavorful, and in large portions. In fact, the owner came out to chat with us when he heard we were new to the area and that's exactly how he described his intent - simple, good food. The skrimp and crab meat Po-Boy was mouthwatering. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, the crab was tender and juicy. The sauce was amazing - next time I think I'll go for the sweet sauce instead of the spicy (it was quite warm). Paired with sweet potato fries which were also very good. Others in my party had catfish nuggets, fried whiting, skrimp baskets, and one mac-and-cheese. Everyone was delighted and we left with very full bellies and leftovers. Our order was taken by Erin - and she was super helpful, cheerful and professional. She was patient with me and my questions and never once got an attitude. I feel bad that I didn't have cash because I surely would've given her a tip! After asking Erin all of my questions I finally decided on what I wanted. I ordered a catfish and shrimp basket with hush puppies and a sweet tea. I also added a side of Cole slaw. The catfish was super fresh and fried to perfection. The shrimp were plump and fresh and fried just right. I mean everything was so crispy and seasoned so well. The sweet tea tasted freshly brewed and was just the right amount of sweetness. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside and soft and warm in the inside. I just wish they had kernels of corn inside. The cole slaw was a good flavor. I just wish it were a little creamier and came down on the sweetness just a tad. The difference between a basket and a dinner is the portion sizes. I got the basket and it was plenty of food for me. My friend ordered a fried mahi mahi sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was super big, fried perfectly, and tasted amazing. Also, even though I'm not a big fan of sweet potato fries but these appeared to be fresh and were fried oh so well. Yummy! He also ordered 4 shrimp on the side. I had the Whiting Fish sandwich and an order of fried okra and a basket of jumbo shrimp. The whiting sandwich (3 Stars): The batter was crunchy and lightly salted just the way I like it. It was slightly overcooked but not too bad. The only part that fell flat for me was how plain-Jane it was. It had no sauce, just a generous portion of thin filets in a bun. Most of the thin parts of the filets were hard to bite through making me think I bit into a fish scale or something, but the filet was so thin the batter from both sides kind of joined together making it hard to bite through. The fried Okra (5 stars): I make it a point to get the fried okra everywhere I go and this was, By far, the best I have ever had in My life. The batter had a hint of cinnamon which made a very interesting flavor. I loved it. Fried Jumbo shrimp (3 stars): The shrimp was def over cooked which made the shrimp a little tough but the batter was good but nothing extraordinary. Would have loved a spicy sauce to go with it, though I didn't ask for it, I should have. I got the lobster roll which had large pieces of lobster in it and was very tasty. I save my five-star reviews for places where I become a regular and they just continually do things well. From time to time I will come across those places that just blow my mind. The Skrimp Shack is that kind of place. I am a big fan of "hole-in-the-wall" cuisine. Especially when it comes to fried seafood. I got here just after 2PM expecting the lunch crowd to be gone. Instead the line was to the door and they had already sold out of soft shell crab. No worries, this was a good sign. I ordered the crab and shrimp po boy with a side of fries and sweet tea. By the time my food was ready a table had cleared and I grabbed a seat. I took my first bite of the po boy and it was like time slowed for a few seconds. The taste was unbelievable. I got their hot sauce which is creamy and spicy, with a touch of mustard seed tang. Truly the best sauce I've ever tasted on a po boy. The shrimp were crispy and piping hot and the crab was sweet and delicious. In many situations like this the fries can be an after-thought. A sad underwhelming anecdote to a mind blowing main event. Not these fries. They were fresh, rocket hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. A perfect complement to the po boy euphoria I was experiencing. I am ruined, but in a good way. I just love The Skrimp Shack. From the owners, staff and finally the food! I would be more of a regular, but I just don't make my way around that area too often. While not a hole in the wall this place is very small so the few times I have been there I did take out. I did eat this time and just like the last time one of the owners would always come around asking us how was our meal along with giving us samples of some of there items. Everything is always cooked perfectly and taste fantastic. The only reason that they don't get 5 stars is because of the size of the place if you are planning on eating in. We had the fish and shrimp dinner this visit and had a $1 up charge for the catfish instead of the whiting.
