I sent an email to John's Auto Center over the weekend and was not expecting a response until the…read morefollowing Monday. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a response within an hour. They were able to get my car looked at right away. Simon was so helpful and looked at my car the second I pulled in. He said that the condition of my car was great and that it seemed to be running smoothly. However, he agreed to put it up on the lift to do a general wellness check of the undercarriage of my car. After inspecting it (again, right away) he took me under the car to show me- he said that everything looked to be in great condition. The only thing he did point out was that my tires were needing to be replaced in the near future- and took the time to show me how to check the tire tread. He offered to give me a quote, although I felt no pressure from him to purchase the tires through him/at their shop. I really appreciated that Simon did not try to sell me some part that I didn't need, or to tell me that something should be fixed on my vehicle when everything looked great. Simon had such a genuine way about him, and I could tell that he was very honest and that I could trust him- which is huge! After asking him to look at the cabin filter, it DID need to be replaced- they didn't have one in stock- so Simon ran to the store and was back to replace it within 5 minutes! I was so pleasantly surprised. I was shocked when the general wellness check on my vehicle only cost $50! and he didn't even charge me for the cabin filter... If I had taken my vehicle to GMC, I for sure would have had to wait a week or two for an appointment, then they would certainly keep my vehicle for several days- and a wellness check would definitely cost upwards to $200. Needless to say- I will be doing ALL of my future motor / car needs to John's Auto Center!

But as it turns out the work performed really improved the performance of my car. The one struct was replaced and now my car sits up much higher than before. Also, the brakes were done and now I can stop on a dime. My only complaint and it's not really a complaint but I would like for someone from the shop to give the customer a daily status update. Also the deception and lying became the normal standard operating procedure from the same manager (who is gravitationally challanged). Its like dealing with a slimly used car sales man. I referred 8 of my friends to use the business as well but they are now going elsewhere now. I spent 3 decades in the army and know when I am being bull sh$tted. There are many other garages on Vandyke drive past this one. they all charge the same so dont pay top dollar for a bunch of deception and bull crap.

Being a car guy myself, it was important to understand the work being done. Rod at Universal did a fantastic job in all aspects of the repairs. I was given fair and accurate estimates, realistic timelines of when the work might be completed, and the communication was excellent. Out of curiosity, I called a couple other local repair shops after my work was completed to compare pricing, and they were all in the same ballpark. Worth noting is that Universal did not replace parts on my vehicle that did not need replacing, resulting in a final bill that was a little less than the original estimate. To me, that is definitely fair and honest. This repair shop is honest and reliable, with comparable prices. I will not hesitate to bring my vehicles back for future service and also refer friends and family to this business.

Bingo bango Nice Nissan cube with an easy fix that they'll probably make a bunch of money on. Now the kids out the 5 grand they paid for that car not very long ago. Trying to save up again to buy a good car hopefully not get taken advantage of.

Henry, who must be the proprietor despite the name of the shop, is an old-school grease monkey who is plain-spoken and quick with a quip. He and his crew are thorough, polite and efficient. Here is the caveat: you are paying a premium for the service and "staying local," as the term is used. In other words, an oil change may cost a bit more at Sol's that. A Quick-Lube chain shop. That premium becomes pro rata higher as the repair becomes more expensive. I believe in supporting local business, and I am very loyal to Sol's, but the last time I went in and learned the a/c compressor needed replacement on my Lincoln, it would have been between $600-$1,000 more at Sol's than other shops nearby. (Sol's was $2,250; I found competitors charging anywhere from $1,350-$1,750.)
