Service left a lot to be desired... 3 waitresses who were lazy and couldn't even come and check on us. Food all tasted like it was frozen and tossed into fryers or on the flattop. We watched our order put up in the window and it took our waitress 10 min to bring it to us because she was busy chatting with another table. One of my colleagues recommended this mom & pop store so I came. Good find. Right on Veterans Blvd & corner of Lowe Drive, they have their own outdoor parking lot so parking is easy. Close to lunch time it gets quite busy but we still got seated in less than 3min. Excellent! They definitely have enough support staff, which is good. Waitresses were very friendly and service was great. They recommended a few things off the menu so I ordered #67 w rye toast. The sausage links were good, eggs were great. The hash browns are decent but can be improved. They got the crispy top part good, but the rest of the sides were a little dull and dry. The coffee is mediocre but then it is mass produced so wasn't expecting that much. The best part were their friendly and efficient customer service and speedy food delivery. The food was delivered in less than 6min! Super fast. Also I discovered they have a PacMan Arcade as one of their tables. Awesome! Will definitely come back and try more breakfast/brunch items. Keep up the good work Skillet's! Edit (Jan 2020): They have completely remodeled their store and now it is even cleaner and modern looking! I think we must have patronized Skillets Restaurant 4 or 5 times why, because they offer great good. Skillets was a short walk from our Motel. We only had to wait about 5 minutes on a Sunday morning. To be seated was alway a short time, from the time we was seated to the time our waitress took our order was an average of minutes. Now if your a food fatty like myself, that's much appreciated. I always got the sweet tea, it had just the right amount of sugar. The waitresses was always attentive and kept our drinks full. You must try the..., scratch that. Try whatever your tummy and taste buds desire because it all was delicious and hit that hunger spot. On my last day in Del Rio I ordered the hot fudge sundae, I had been eyeing that sundae on the menu. It tasted just like a sundae, I ordered xtra fudge. I saw my coworker watching me eat my sundae, but nope I wasn't sharing.,,,get your own. J/k From what I took note of the prices which was comparable to IHOP which was a short walk away. Restaurant is clean, waitstaff is friendly. Service was relatively quick. Social distancing measures and mask orders in place for Covid. Ordered the huevos rancheros and a Texas two-step with pancakes. The huevos did not come layered or seasoned very well. The beans tasted funky, like they were left in the can for too long. The coffee was very bland and watery. Of all things ordered, pancakes were the best. The eggs tasted normal, the beans were terrible, the home fries were not seasoned very well... basically just fried cubes of potatoes with nothing on them. Overall, this was a very disappointing meal, especially the huevos since they did not come put together in anyway that i have seen before. Prices are very low, which maybe is why things don't taste very good. I would not eat here again. read more

A recent trip to Del Rio, and I decided on Skillet's for breakfast. This used to be the Kettle, and from the looks of the interior, it seems like not much has changed in over 20+ years or so. My silverware was dirty, which the waitress quickly replaced. My omelette was overcooked, dry, and tough. The hashbrowns were good, thankfully, because the pancakes were thin, and dry. Coffee was decent, and I was just thankful for the caffeine. A greasy spoon establishment, yes, but a subpar one. I spent less than an hour in Skillet's but it was enough time to notice a good cleaning wouldn't hurt the establishment. Bussing of tables was non-existent long after customers had left, so if you're looking to travel back in time a few decades, just step into this Skillet's. read more

The food was decent--the kind of fare that you'll likely see at any comparable place: breakfast stuff, some sandwiches, burgers, and things like chicken fried steak for lunch/dinner. Breakfast is served all day. I ordered Belgian waffles and got--literally--eggos. Like no shit. The kind that you put in a toaster but apparently they didn't have a toaster and just microwaved them because they were limp and soggy. The hotel I'm staying at in Del Rio even has a waffle iron that makes Texas shaped waffles for its continental breakfast. You'd think a place called Skillet would be able to one up a free hotel breakfast. Nope. My dinner companions had pancakes and French toast which seemed ok. Everything else tasted fine: nice, buttery scrambled eggs, and crispy bacon. The restaurant itself is a bit run down and old but that's not atypical from other places in Del Rio. They could have easily gotten three stars had they just walked over to La Quinta and borrowed their waffle maker for five minutes. All in all, an acceptable place to eat if everything else is closed and you don't want fast food. I don't think I'll be back though. read more

The chicken strips we think were from the day before and refried. My daughter's macaroni looked like when your kids don't eat it at home and you try to reheat it later. The Tall Texan is what I ordered and it was really good, fluffy pancakes, perfectly fried eggs, and crispy hash browns. We have been long time customers of Skillets in Del Rio, TX, up until tonight. We placed our orders with the waitress, had the order read back to us. We ordered two 5oz chicken fried steak dinners and a hamburger combo After eating, we were billed billed for two 10oz steaks. The night manager, a shorter, heavy set argumentative woman with glasses charged us for the 10oz steak dinners. We tried to tell her that we did not order the 10oz plates. She told us that even though they had made the mistake in the orders that we must pay for the orders since, "we brought the plates to your table so you have to pay for them". She continued to repeat over and over again, "we brought the plates to your table so you have to pay for them". She admitted that it was their mistake, but that we were responsible whether or not they made a mistake on the order. She refused to speak with us any further and then escaped into the back, only peaking out at us. She flat out refused to correct the bill for their mistake. The Skillet Restaurant is filthy. I should've turned around and walked out but against my better judgement I stayed, ordered breakfast and tried not to look around at the dirty surroundings. I tried not to imagine how dirty the kitchen was based on the dining area. The wait staff was friendly but uninformed and oblivious to their surroundings. My server was unable to verify if the whipped, dark yellow looking substance next to my pancakes was real butter or if the restaurant had any real butter in the kitchen. Skillet's is a friendly hangout spot for me to meet with friends. Many of the waitresses are friendly and unlike IHOP next door, it does not take two hours for the food to arrive when you decide to eat there late nights. The food is your standard breakfast restaurant menu. You have a choice of breakfast, lunch, or dinner dishes which include french toast, pancakes, pork chops, steak, eggs, hash browns, etc. What I love is the apple pie with ice cream paired with some hot chocolate. I always ask for extra whipped cream and they humbly douse it over flowingly. (Yipee!) Happy 24hr dining! read more

I have eaten here almost every other weekend for breakfast for the last three years and love it. The food is your standard breakfast fare with great eggs, pancakes, and omelets. The staff is super friendly and never let's your coffee get low. Another plus to this place is that they don't rush you and will just let you sit there and relax. If you ever pass through Del Rio or if you live here I highly recommend this place for a great breakfast and nice cup of coffee, just keep your eyes peeled for the giant Pancakes sign. Let me start with this was not our first choice but the other place was closed. I am glad that it was! Food was homemade. Portions were perfect size. Homemade biscuits that are HUGE! From what I can remember I had eggs, toast and sausage. All of it was subpar. I asked for eggs over medium, they came out over easy. The sausage was basically Jimmy Dean's. Did not receive my food even after my family finished their plates. I contacted a waitress and asked why I haven't received my food which she said that the cooks lost my food ticket (which did not make sense because everyone else in my family received their plates on the same food ticket) but she can ask to put it in a to go box. Upset, I asked to speak with a manger but he never came. I then went to the front desk and asked to speak with the manager, "again" and again he never came to speak with me. In the end I left the restaurant without eating or an apology and with a bad taste in my mouth.
