Texas Two Step biscuit & gravy
    Melissa P.

Our family of 5 saw the "PANCAKE" sign and could not resist opportunity to enjoy a diner style breakfast. The service was friendly and welcoming with some input after asking for suggestions. The iced coffee was refreshing and the food was tasty. One devoured the pancakes with strawberries and whip. Another enjoyed eggs, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes. One tried to finish eggs, bacon, sausage, and biscuits covered with sausage gravy. The other finished off a ham and cheese omelette with toast. I attempted to finish eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, and cinnamon roll pancakes. Large portions of good breakfast foods.

In town for some mechanical problems on my way through. Not a lot of breakfast options so stopped here. It's diner food. Nothing amazing but it hit the spot. Had the Texas Two Step that comes with two eggs, two sausage, two bacon and two pancakes. The food was good but I have to say the service was mediocre. I waited for quite awhile to get coffee refill and even longer to get my check. Their was only about 4 tables sat at the time too.

Ordered online. Easy enough. All the food was cold. The mozzarella sticks weren't edible. Trashed them. The chicken fried steak & gravy was good. Eggs were overcooked and not seasoned. The super taco is legit af. So is the salsa they make and include. Also got one biscuit with sausage gravy. Biscuits are the size of a large hamburger bun. One taco & one biscuit. I'm insanely full. I will be back & try lunch definitely.

Service left a lot to be desired... 3 waitresses who were lazy and couldn't even come and check on us. Food all tasted like it was frozen and tossed into fryers or on the flattop. We watched our order put up in the window and it took our waitress 10 min to bring it to us because she was busy chatting with another table. Hate to sound racist, but if we would have been something other than white, I think our service would have been better... we were the only ones who were ignored while there. My husband ordered a burger med-rare and the cook came out to tell him she could only serve it well-done?? Gross. Not worth the $50 we spent on 2 entrees and an appetizer and 2 teas .

One of my colleagues recommended this mom & pop store so I came. Good find. Right on Veterans Blvd & corner of Lowe Drive, they have their own outdoor parking lot so parking is easy. Close to lunch time it gets quite busy but we still got seated in less than 3min. Excellent! They definitely have enough support staff, which is good. Waitresses were very friendly and service was great. They recommended a few things off the menu so I ordered #67 w rye toast. The sausage links were good, eggs were great. The hash browns are decent but can be improved. They got the crispy top part good, but the rest of the sides were a little dull and dry. The coffee is mediocre but then it is mass produced so wasn't expecting that much. The best part were their friendly and efficient customer service and speedy food delivery. The food was delivered in less than 6min! Super fast. Also I discovered they have a PacMan Arcade as one of their tables. Awesome! Will definitely come back and try more breakfast/brunch items. Keep up the good work Skillet's! Edit (Jan 2020): They have completely remodeled their store and now it is even cleaner and modern looking! Unfortunately the Arcade table is gone :( I would also like to recommend Elsy, who is an amazing waitress. She was extremely attentive, making me feel like a valued customer even though she had a ton of other customers. Her friendly nature and knowledge of the store food menu items are unparalleled. Because of her, I will definitely come back again. Bravo Skillets for hiring such a great employee!

I think we must have patronized Skillets Restaurant 4 or 5 times why, because they offer great good. Skillets was a short walk from our Motel. We only had to wait about 5 minutes on a Sunday morning. To be seated was alway a short time, from the time we was seated to the time our waitress took our order was an average of minutes. Now if your a food fatty like myself, that's much appreciated. I always got the sweet tea, it had just the right amount of sugar. The waitresses was always attentive and kept our drinks full. You must try the..., scratch that. Try whatever your tummy and taste buds desire because it all was delicious and hit that hunger spot. On my last day in Del Rio I ordered the hot fudge sundae, I had been eyeing that sundae on the menu. It tasted just like a sundae, I ordered xtra fudge. I saw my coworker watching me eat my sundae, but nope I wasn't sharing.,,,get your own. J/k From what I took note of the prices which was comparable to IHOP which was a short walk away. If your passing thru Del Rio, Skillets Restaurant is the place to stop to fill that hunger spot. 5 stars!

    Chicken Fried Steak and Waffles

A classic remnant of classic Americana. Their breakfast is incredibly good on its own, but to top off with the antique feel of the old school diner really makes this place special. I would recommend their Chicken Fried Steak and Waffles, picture included below!

Really good food for a good price, especially if you come for lunch Monday through Friday. You can get a lot for $8.

Late night must. The menudo and/or nachos grande are great hangover cures. IHOP competitor, but alittle more down home feel.

Walked in and enjoyed a seat by the window. Not much vegetarian options for my friend, but his son got a double burger and I got the chicken fried steak. My friend didn't think I could eat it all and after the first bite, it was challenge accepted. Got to talking to the waiter and he mentioned they buy their meat locally and you could tell it was a good piece battered and fried. I got 2 sunny side eggs with it to soak up the plate and I do have to say this was the best CFS that I have had in a long time. I also got a Menudo to go as I was eating, but they forgot to put the order in and in the rush, the top lid cracked and it leaked out on way home. This was a bummer, since I was hoping to have it the next day before work. Besides this mess, I really recommend this place.

One thing to remember, this restaurant in this small town, just like other restaurants in major cities, are also struggling with staffing and supply chain issues. Another thing, this restaurant is INSIDE A CASINO, so yes, expect a wait. Come with the expectation that you'll have to wait at least 30 minutes. All that being said, we drove about 15 minutes from my Dad's house to IHOP to take him to breakfast. We got there and there was a line. When we finally got to the hostess, she said it'd be a 30 minute wait, which we were fine with (the last time was 30 minutes also). We only ended up waiting about 30 min. PRO TIP: If you wanna go gamble while you wait, you'll be provided with a buzzer to let you know when your table is ready. This is my dad's jam. Being 78, he always finds things he loves (can't pry him away from breakfast items). Who can blame him? And honestly, neither can we - I mean, who doesn't love breakfast? It's a great value and the food is always consistently great. Service has always been outstanding both times even though they've been busy each time.

The rice was crunchy, the lettuce was brown, the tomatoes tasted old, and the chicken had this strange mustard flavor that completely ruined the dish. The bread was dry, the tortillas were practically raw, and the "quesadillas" weren't even quesadillas. The only good thing on my plate were the beans, and that's saying a lot. On top of that, there are no vegan options, even though Yelp claimed they did. I asked for vegetable fajitas, and they looked at me like I had two heads, like it was the weirdest request they'd ever heard. They definitely do NOT have vegetarian or vegan options, and they made no effort to accommodate any dietary needs. The asparagus and broccolini came out raw with zero seasoning. Nothing about our meal was enjoyable. If you want actual Mexican food, you're better off going to Taco Bell at this point. The Local Fix definitely did NOT fix us....now I need to go find some real food. Would not recommend this place at all, especially if you have any dietary restrictions.
