It came out with that delightful sizzling sound with steam coming off the top. I had the small Molcajete since I was by myself. There was more than enough food, and I took the rest back to my room. The charro beans were the best I've had. The flour tortillas were really good also. The red and green salsas that came the the chips were both legit. The red is very hot, but really good. The chips were a toss up because I was an early customer, I think was given a mix of fresh and day old chips. I wasn't feeling my inner Karen so I didn't say anything. Better located on Veterans Blvd. in the view of many that drive by. The parking is a big improvement as the restaurant is too. A spacious dining area and a separate area with a bar. They are still getting 2 other rooms ready, but this move is a big upgrade for sure. The food is delicious, and the service by Alexis superb. I had a great time again here. After the hike in Seminole Canyon we found this place to eat our tiredness away. The service was really great (not overwhelming) and the staff who helped us were just so light to talked. She helped us to figure out what is good on the menu as this was our first time. The restaurant was neat and organized. It wasn't busy time when we visited. The food was so good from chips and guacamole (where it hit the spot of taste and texture), the molcajete (solo) it was so good, filled with meats with the sides of rice and tortilla, then the flautas. Since we really enjoyed it we ordered a to go of their Enchiladas and it was really delicious. I have eaten so much Mexican so this is something to be said. I am assuming it is more authentic version on Mexican food since I am from Virginia. The waitress said they use authentic Mexican spices. A place that looks like it could have potential but unfortunately that was not the case today. I had the guisado plate and it was less than average in taste and presentation. Instead of a gravy consistency it had a soupy consistency. The hole dish lacked any type of herbal flavoring that is typical to a good Mexican guisado. My friend had a fall apart torta all pastor. I call it that because the bread literally falls apart as you try to eat it. The torta was very small considering the price tag. Food also took almost 30 minutes to be served. Then when I asked for rice and beans, which I thought a $18.00 plate would come with, it didn't and they told me they were going to charge me. Staff was awesome. Our waitress Marisol explained the menu and was very kind to the fact my husband and FIL do not eat pork. They were very accommodating which we truly appreciate. My MIL requested a margarita that was not on the menu and Nikki the bartender came over afterwards to see if my MIL liked it... her mix request made for a new drink on the menu. First of all our waiter was excellent, but none of us in our group got his name. A tall, slim, young man in his early 20s??? Anyway, he was courteous, prompt, but not overbearing. Thank you!!! All the food was fresh and delicious, especially the pico and made that day salsa. Ice cold mugs for the Cheladas and beers and great salty dogs with fresh slices of grapefruit. The manager/owner came by to check on us and mentioned she had to run to the store as they were out of grapefruit. That was a great gesture and made us even more appreciative of the great meal and experience. Ordered the Torre de Camarones and I can't even properly explain how fantastic it was. The avocado perfectly balanced out the chile from the pico and acidity from the lime. Didn't have to add any salt or chile to make this perfect. My only complaint is that my stomach didn't have more capacity to hold an additional order. I actually liked this place. The food was good and the plates are put together nicely. They have a lot of variety of foods hence the long menu. The music was kinda loud, but they turned it down eventually. They take feedback well and very friendly and nice. We will come here again. The table that we sat was a little dirty but they cleaned it with Lysol after. I think it's just a matter of wiping the tables as soon as they are cleared. I liked the environment and the vibes. What a great find. We haven't eaten here before. We stopped in for lunch as we drove around looking for someplace new. When you first walk in, you feel like you've stepped into a restaurant in the heart of Mexico. The colors, music and atmosphere are exactly like the restaurants I've visited south of the border. The waitress are great but the male waiters leave something to be desired, waited 20 minutes for just the drink order, no ice was available unless you ordered mixed drinks, 25 minutes for just chips and salsa, (that's after our warm tea and water showed up, and 45 minutes after that our food order showed up. Enchiladas were cold, and some one needs to teach the cook how to make a proper chicken fried steak, (one of our guests was allergic to the spices in spainish food) ordered it with mashed potatoes did not show up till the end of the meal. complained the manager nothing was done. Then a forced 20% tip charge was added to the bill, before we had a chance to approve.
