Ate here for the first time ever. Ok, I really want this place to be successful. I love family run businesses especially restaurants. So this is my honest opinion hoping you don't get offended. The fries are horrible. Honestly, worst fries I've ever had in my life. They were hot and soggy. No snap or crips whatsoever. To make matters worse, they were served smashed onto the chicken. The fries need a complete overhaul and if folks are telling you they are amazing, they are lying to you. This smashing down these soggy fries into your chicken is the worst possible way to serve them. Onto the chicken, I know you say you have your own special seasoning in the flour. I tasted nothing but flour, lots & lots of salt, & water. You really need to add more seasoning to this batter and bring more flavors into this chicken. I would also recommend having a beef talo options as I feel this would greatly improve on your chicken. I would also recommend yall stop using the "ready in 30 minutes" line. It seems everyone is having this issue including myself. Was told 30 minutes and waited for 55. Again, want to see this place succeed and grow, but the hype I read on line does not even come close to the reality of the food here. read more

I rated this a two because the food was alright the fries were not very good they were oily and not crispy why so ever there was no salt no other seasoning do not recommend the fries. The tenders were alright I only say that because I think they cook there tenders in the same oil they cook there fish so it has this fishy taste but overall not much flavor. Service was fine you could kind of compare it to a food truck. The ambiance was nice it reminded me of like and old school lunch place. read more

Hate to withdraw a 5 star rating from a place I e been going to for a lot of years but ever since the owner passed it's gone down hill especially quality of food catching the folks buying patties from HEB to burning them gizzards and leaving them little to CRUNCHY 3 hour wait pushed back in line being lied to about 40 min wait and just seeing more customers getting their orders wrong or some missing orders due to no meat I mean she is just taking orders but ain't helping in the back to pack a order or anything she is a disgrace and that lady needs to be fired has glasses worst part long lines and waiting listening to her taking orders and no food coming out the window talk about a pile up probably not going ever again read more

Always on point with the fried chicken. I will say I was more than a little disappointed when I ordered two burritos and was told they were out of taco sauce, which is what truly makes the burritos awesome. I have to say the onion rings are top notch too. read more

Their chicken is delicious! The "ambiance" is 100% "converted gas station". The service isn't fast, but you always get freshly cooked food. No warming lamps. Last time I was there, the prices seemed a "little high" to me, but, in light of the quality, not inappropriate. If you call ahead, you will reduce your wait time considerably. read more

Welcoming! This place has its history... has been around for decades! Some really moist fried chicken, crispy onion rings and some tasty burgers!! The ladies in here work really hard to take orders and to give good customer service. The food does not disappoint! No indoor dining, only two picnic tables out front by main road. I sat and ate my meal on the picnic table to enjoy the town and this delicious establishment!! I'll definitely be back if I want this comfort food. Not weekly, but for sure I'll be back! read more

We ordered burgers, French fries, and onion rings. The fries were very hot, but soggy and greasy. The onion rings were cold with very little onion, mostly very thick batter. 20 pounds of fries and a couple of mollejas does not justify $13! Plus you have to wait over 30 minutes for service!!?? Place is overrated. I usually go there once every six months I will make sure to make my trips longer since I am the only one that likes the molllejas from there. The last time I went an order of mollejas was around 8 bucks. The jumó to the price I paid today leaves a sour taste in my mouth. read more

I remember coming here as a teen and loving their fresh food made to order. And that hasn't changed it's made fresh but food was so bland and had no flavor to it just deep fried. You go to Meme's Kleen Kitchen for one of two meals: fried chicken or hamburgers. Having heard good things about the fried chicken from locals, I decided to go for it. I was not disappointed. The building is almost entirely devoted to the kitchen, with a small separate room off to the side with a couple of tables to accompany the few set up outside. This is primarily a place where you grab your meal and go. When I approached to order my fried chicken lunch, I was informed that there would be a wait of nearly a half hour. Given the size of their operation, I assumed there was some orders ahead of mine, so I didn't mind waiting. When I received my take-out container, it contained a breast and a wing that were fried to perfection with a crispy shell containing a juicy bird. I don't know how so many people fail to understand that fried food needs to sit on a rack for a few minutes and drain itself of excess grease, but Meme is amongst them: my breast was sitting on a piece of wax paper to catch the grease that hadn't finished dripping from the chicken. This resulted in a small part of my breast's crispy crust becoming damp and soft, but did not detract from the overall chicken experience. Given their apparent ability to fry a chicken, you would think that their fryer skills would extend to the french fries. Unfortunately, this was not the case, as the fries I received were utterly limp and slightly shimmering from the grease, which leads me to believe that the fryer was not up to temperature before the fries were introduced. No seasoning seemed to have been introduced to the potatoes, either. Perplexingly, the meal also came with two pieces of white bread, along with some chopped lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion. They were obviously sandwich-making materials, but I didn't understand how I was supposed to make a sandwich from boned chicken. I ended up making a sandwich with the soggy fries. I don't understand the reasoning behind the name "Kleen Kitchen". I looked inside the kitchen when I was ordering - it didn't look dirty, but it didn't look like anything to be bragging about, either. The name does stick with you, so kleenliness or not, the marketing worked. For the fried chicken - their speciality, and what many people think of when they think of Meme - the place get four stars. It reminds me of a small chicken shack I used to visit as a child back home. For the sides, however, they were a disappointing two. Though I can't be sure, there's a good chance there may have been a lunch rush when I ordered, so I don't think it's fair to downgrade them for their low points. read more

Based on reviews I have read and my conversation with locals waiting with me the chicken here is excellent. Given that they have been around for 40-50 years and have a huge, dedicated local following I don't doubt it. We were traveling through and unknowingly stopped by for a quick bite, which turned out to be a rookie mistake since everyone waits 40+ minutes. (Hint: call in advance). We only had the burritos, which were fried to perfection and tasted great. Based on our limited experience, their longevity and obvious popularity I give this a solid 4, as long as you understand the wait and the fact that they serve old school, some times mistakenly referred to as "greasy", chicken. read more

This is a hidden gem. All the locals know about the chicken, fries and sliced jalapeños. Here's a hint all orders are call in ahead of time. Takes about 1 hour but you will not be disappointed! We ordered two burgers fries and onion rings... They don't bacon... They don't have curly fries..... Was told it would be ten to twenty minutes. Ok.. fifteen minutes later told them we were going to wait in the car and they said they were making the burgers now. I asked them how much longer like five or ten minutes. Ok... forty five minutes from the time we ordered still not ready. There was another guy there that said he have ordered forty minutes earlier over the phone and they had lost his order. So he was also waiting there an additional fifteen minutes. To top it off the lady taking the orders was a little rude. So never ever coming back to this place. Ever.
