Skiff is a little gem that you hope does not get so big and popular, it will loose the unique magic. This bakery does beautiful work. I was asked to order a cake for a Retirement celebration. Ordering a large cake for a grand celebration put a lot of pressure on me. Costco is nice and the pricing is great, but it lacks the wow factor that I wanted for this special celebration. We had co-workers that were retiring after over 20 years of service, one retiree had over 50. So this cake had to be spectacular in looks and taste. After researching and reading many reviews, I decided to stop by and speak with Skiff to see what they offered. The minute you walk into their quaint bakery, it definitely felt unique and warm. Speaking with the gal behind the counter who assisted me in answering all my questions on the cake, pricing and decorations to make the cake look very classy and have the wow factor. I wanted whipped cream for the frosting, but was concerned that it might be too soft. I have had whipped cream that has a marshmallow texture and is not too sweet. This is exactly what was given to me to taste test. It was delicious. Since this was going to be for about 50 co-workers, we decided on a white cake, fresh strawberry, custard Bavarian cream with whipped cream. The decoration was subtle and classy with touches of gold and white chocolate as decoration on the cake. I decided to order cupcakes to bring home to try their flavors. Each cupcake was unique and so delicious. So I knew the cake was going to be amazing. Picking up the cake, they helped me to my car and ensured the cake was not going to slide around through the drive. How thoughtful. And of course, the cake did not disappoint. They had white shaved chocolates with gold touches to look like flowers in the corners of the cake. It was stunningly beautiful, classy and just so delicious. This is an amazing, unique wholesome bakery. I just hope they stay small, personable and special. I would highly recommend ordering any baking needs from Skiff's Cakes. You will not be disappointed and will have a wow factor for your guest to enjoy during any special occasion or gathering. Or even taking a dozen cookies or cupcakes to any gathering. I have found quality cakes elsewhere for about half the cost. In my case, their non-refundable deposit policy is unreasonable. I placed an order, made a deposit, and canceled within hours. I absolutely LOVE this family bakery cake shop!! The cupcakes are so delicious, that we drive from Valencia to Simi Valley for them!! If you want to pick them up on the weekend, I would definitely place an order 24 hours in advance, otherwise it's first come, first serve and they get busy! I think you can also order online. I had a really disappointing experience at this place. I ordered a cake for my son's birthday two weeks ago, and unfortunately, it was a total letdown. The frosting was extremely sweet, so much so that the kids couldn't even eat it. Several guests also commented on how overly sweet it was. While the decoration was decent, the flavor was honestly terrible. I would not recommend buying a cake from here, it's a waste of money and can easily ruin a special celebration. After meeting with one of the ladies asking questions getting advice what will hold up in travel , heat etc . I am heeding the warnings & recommendations of Skiffs staff. Due to us having a very small intimate wedding , we decided on nixing the formalities with a wedding cake top to be saved an eaten on our first anniversary. Tradition is good , but it won't work with my taste . I prefer whipped cream to butter cream filling and icing but a july wedding will see a whipped cream cake turn into a pile of spoiled separated mush , nor will that hold up for a year in the freezer & thawing, so we are opting out of an official wedding cake on wedding day and will order a small cake on our first anniversary to be eaten fresh. The restaurant we are having a small dinner at is offering desert with our menu so our guests will still receive desert and we get a fresh cake on our 1year anniversary . I had a birthday party for my wife and wanted a really special cake for the occasion, I was told to look into Skiff's in Simi Valley and let me tell you it was a real pleasure to work with them. We sat down with Steve and he informed me of the variety of cake flavors, fillings and frostings as well as how they can decorate for any occasion. Not only did the cake look fabulous, what an incredible taste! The marble cake was light and flavorful and the raspberry filling flavorful but not grossly sweet with the butter cream frosting bringing it all together. So many compliments from our guests on how delicious the cake was with several going back for seconds. But let me talk to you about the decorating and coloring of the cake, Steve and his team took a photo of the flatware and napkin color theme and used that as their color palette. The detail was incredible and so well done I didn't want to slice it up. Thank you for making the occasion not just tasty but artistic. When we came in to order the cake we picked up some of their other delicious treats and let me tell you ALL were delicious as well. So if you want an incredibly delicious bakery for your upcoming event or just want to pick up a cake or pastries to enjoy at home Skiff's Bakery is your place. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Skiffs Cakes! From the service to the flavors, everything was absolutely top notch! For my wedding, I ordered a combination of cake and cupcakes. The cake was a beautiful 3 tier cake with different flavors in each tier. My husband is from Costa Rica so he absolutely LOVES coffee, so we picked a cappuccino filling for one cake and a coffee cupcake to pair it with. Both were absolutely delicious! I'm from Santa Paula, (the lemon capital of the world!) so of course I picked a lemon poppy cake and Steve recommended a lemon cupcake to pair it with, which was an excellent choice. And who doesn't love chocolate? So we also did a beautiful red velvet cake with cookies and cream filling which paired with some delicious red velvet cupcakes. We hired Skiffs Cakes for our wedding in October 2024 (10/19 Eden Gardens) and had a mostly positive experience. Steve was professional and easy to work with, and the cake tasted delicious. The delivery was also on time and went smoothly. However, we did have one issue - we had requested an extra filling to be added to the cake, which we had confirmed with Steve's wife over the phone. Unfortunately, when we received the cake with that added filling on our wedding day, the filling was not included. While it may seem like a minor mistake, it was disappointing given the cost of the cake (almost $1000). We had expected more attention to detail, especially since we had paid a premium for the service. Overall, we would still recommend Skiffs Cakes, but with the caveat that customers should double-check their orders to ensure everything is correct. I do still recommend Skiffs but I would make sure you run your wishes by them maybe twice. read more
