Had a sweet tooth after lunch and came upon this really cute bakery in Simi Valley town center. Friendly greeting. Clean and bright inside. Case had cupcakes, gluten-free brownies and cookies. Late in day so offerings were very limited. My SIL recommended some cookies. I purchased the Reeses center for myself and White Chocolate Snickerdoodle for my daughter. $3.50 each and they were tasty. Soft and not too rich. If only I had a tall glass if ice cold milk with mine. Located at the end of they not so bustling part if the town center but they seem to have regulars and folks picking up special orders of cupcakes. They do custom cakes as well. read more

Whenever I'm in town I make sure to stop here for a nice treat and recently, some ice coffee, since she has updated her menu items and revamped the bakery. It's a great family owned bakery. Great customer service and even better bakery items. The flavors are out of this world. The cinnamon knots and stuffed cookies are a must! So delicious! I've also tried several cupcake flavors and they are yummy too. She also did a custom cake for my daughters first birthday and it was perfect. The design was impeccable. The cake was moist and the frosting and fondant (which I normally don't like nor eat on a cake) was delicious. I would definitely recommend this bakery to others. I seriously do not understand how these people can call themselves a business. Please look at the attached screenshots of the time-line of me basically chasing them to order a damn wedding cake. I've been politely reaching out for TWO MONTHS to no avail. I found them on the news for being broken into and figured I'd help support. I've messaged both the business IG and the owners personal IG, aside from 3 emails. Every time I follow up, all I get is a litany of excuses and the run around. "Email here" ...I email, no response. "Resend the email or come in" .. I emailed again because that's what business emails are for and I'm busy wedding planning with a toddler, again no response. "It's just me, my computer crashed" ummm yea but yet you're posting on IG all day so I'm pretty sure you own a smart phone from which u can easily reply or keep me updated.. you just choose not to. In one message you can see she tries to fault me for not including info in my 1st email that she expects me to mind-read that she needs. In another msg she insinuates I tried to place an order on IG? "I dont take orders on IG" I LITERALLY ONLY MESSAGED YOU SO YOU CAN TELL ME WHAT YOU NEEDED FROM ME TO MOVE FORWARD. What does it matter anyway if you JUST saw my email because you apparently don't check or respond to your emails in a timely manner? I put my wedding date on my initial msg to the owner on IG, in the subject line of my initial email, and she STILL asked me to put it in my THIRD email, which is on the same thread as my initial! I sent my last email with the requested info and attachments over a week ago and STILL NO RESPONSE, yet again. The worst part of it all is that they have all the time in the world to post bs on their IG stories all day every day but refuse to actually conduct business and provide a damn quote that's been asked of them for 2 months now! Bree, you are rudely and disrespectfully wasting my time at this point. I asked if you did not want or could not take my business, to simply just say so. And you expect me to come in and waste more time?! Clearly, you don't value my time at all, asking me to jump through all these hoops and still not satisfying my inquiry. My wedding is a month and a half away! I've expressed my frustration and still you don't care. I highly suggest some business courses, especially on customer service, because this is ridiculous! Thank goodness now I know to NEVER order ANYTHING from them. Can't imagine the screw-ups as a hired vendor and how unreliable they must be on the day-of an important event! Footnote: After posting my review above, I went back to read her 1 & 2 star reviews. They're ALL saying the same thing I'm saying. It's years of bad service, unprofessionalism, unresponsiveness, and excuses. You are messing with people's important life events. Get it together, Bree. I clearly explained you already lost me as a potential client because of such bad business practices. I'm sorry to say that we had a similar experience as others who have commented about the poor communication from this business. We inquired about a having a birthday party for our daughter here and the communication from the owner just stopped abruptly. Not even a response to say they couldn't accommodate our date or ask if we had another day in mind. Just nothing and no response to a follow up either. So I am in trouble as I will be camping outside their door!! I don't know where to begin.... walked in and it's such a cute little spot but then you see the cupcakes which the flavors change weekly (reason for my camping out). It was later on a Sunday afternoon so a lot of items were sold. I spotted a mini fridge next to the cupcake display and holy crap there was a cupcake with a chicken nugget on it!!! Like OMG I had to get it. It's called Soul food Cupcake. Please see my pics as it is made with cornbread, with mac & cheese in middle, mashed potato with gravy and fried chicken on top. It's in a small strip mall on a busy intersection, so it's easy to miss. Keep an eye out for the storefront, located right next to El Pollo Loco. The big "grand opening" flag certainly helped us flag it down for our first time. Walking in, you are immediately greeted by a display case with delicious pastries. Cupcakes, cookies, brownies and the snicker donut (serious). Not just any style though. We're talking unique. The cupcakes are beautiful looking with intriguing flavors. The cookies are stuffed with things like Twix, snickers. The brownie was red velvet Oreo. The wife and I got the Twix stuffed cookie, the brownie and two cupcakes (strawberry shortcake and churro Nutella). Total price was $14.50 - totally worth it. One wall is decorated with pictures of celebrities who have been served by their business - this includes Kevin Hart, Chrissy Teigen, Khloe Kardashian. And for any NBA fans out there, also Caron Butler. The two gentlemen helping us were incredibly friendly and made us feel like they appreciated our patronage. I'm giving one less star due to the in-person customer service. I walked in to pick up my order and a gentleman holding a baby just looked at me instead of greeting me. Wow!!!! These cupcakes are absolutely delicious! We drove 45 minutes and literally made it just in time before they closed. I got 6 cupcakes one of each flavors they had left. My favorite one was the pistachio but all of them were delicious. I brought them back home to Miami and its been 3 days and they are still moist and soft. The buttercream its so good you can tell its made from real butter and not shortening. We also good stuffed cookies and brownies. Everything was yummy not to mention Bree's customer service is great! Two of the times the phone went straight to voicemail. One time it kept ringing, and the last time it was answered and hung up. I ended up shooting her an email to follow up because I really wanted to get the cake ordered. It has now been almost a week and I am yet to hear back from Bree. I would never give my business to this baker due to the unprofessionalism that she has displayed. You can have the coolest looking cakes and be a great baker, but if you do not know how to treat your customers right and do not follow up, you will never gain any long lasting customers. I found Bree's Cakes on IG - she is known for the one of a kind SOUL CAKE which she has made for celebs like Chrissy T & John Legend. Unfortunately we stopped by on a Thursday and Soul Cupcakes are only available on the weekend so I didn't get to try one (yall know I would have had to give that piece of chicken to the hubby anyway cuz I'm a vegetarian LOL) But what we did have was worth the drive! No exaggeration when I tell you that my husband starting eating his goodies before we left the store even though we specifically came to grab stuff to go for the beach. He started on his double chocolate cupcake while hitting the alarm to unlock the car and stopped ... when I asked him what he was doing he said "I just want to enjoy this" and proceeded to eat his cupcake like kid savoring every morsel!!! Once he finished his last bite he then went to get in the car. Wow. I was patient and saved my stuffed cookie and cupcake as planned. I got the COOKIE DOUGH cupcake. Moist and full of flavor. When I went Bree had made a batch of Banana Pudding. Pretty good. More firm than my favorite auntie's batch but the flavor was great. Couldn't put my finger on what "extra" ingredient Bree had in there but it definitely tasted like a twist to the usually vanilla banana flavor. I am a true fan of Bree's Cakes. I seriously felt like a groupie when I met her and had to take a pic. I admire watching her build her dream and can't wait to see where she goes from here ... even though she just opened. Today is another cheat day and my wife requested some cupcakes for her... I love anything cake so went in search of a bakery near by. I was happy to see Bree's was open. Since the beginning of the pandemic I have wanted to try this bakery but diets and scheduling has gotten in the way. Today was finally the day. Ordered 4 cupcakes 2 strawberry shortcake, a snickers and a red velvet. After trying the 3 different flavors this was my takeaway. The cake was excellent. Springy and moist with a lot of flavor. The frosting was light and not overly sweet. My wife loved the frosting. She usually wipes half of the frosting off cupcakes but this time around she ate the whole thing. The star of the show was definitely the strawberry shortcake. It had a nice refreshing strawberry flavor. Very tasty. I am very saddened to write about my experience, however I do not want this to happen to anyone else. We found Bree on the food network when her bakery was getting remodeled when she was in the Reseda location. In July 2022 My partner and I wanted to try her desserts out as we recently got engaged. Had the chance to meet her and purchase six cupcakes to try, and of course we fell in love with her baked goods and wanted her to make our wedding cake based on her artistry and cake flavors. With that initial meeting we asked her about a deposit, locking in the date and her response "No, we can do it as we get closer" March 2023 rolls around, and I email her and reach out to her through DM on Instagram to let her know that we wanted to schedule a tasting. We scheduled our cake tasting on June 30th, and she emailed to let us know her daughter's recital was that day and asked if we could move time "sure no problem". We arrived, went through the process of trying different flavors, and started to discuss what our vision, wants, were for our dessert table. At the end of the tasting, she said would get the invoice to us that same weekend July 2nd, 3rd. Well, that came and went, attempted to call her throughout the week and could not leave a message since it was full for her to call me back. I emailed her on July 16th, 23rd, while calling her and finally were able to leave a message on 22nd, 23rd, and final attempt on July 31st, 2023. Well to say the least we do not have a cake for our wedding from her and it's six weeks away. Thanks, Bree, for making us look for a bakery that will take us as 80% and more require a 8 week minimum notice. It truly bums me out to write this as we have made every attempt to go through small businesses for everything. You have caused a huge ripple in our planning process and do not want this to happen to anyone else. My sense is just she never wanted to do our cake and just strung us along, I don't know if it was because we are a gay couple, or she has that much business and doesn't want ours, or she is just overwhelmed and needs to invest in a planner or that much social media coverage she puts drives a significant amount of business into the bakery. I would leave no stars if I could but had to put one so I could post. Good luck! read more
