I don't think I'm a ski fan (I tried it and once was more than enough) but still love the beauty I see. We were told that NYE was also crazy busy but didn't realize Valentine weekend would be too. Beautiful nevertheless!

My buddy and I finally made the drive over from Arizona and had a blast skiing here. Breckenridge Ski Resort (or just Breck) is a popular resort that is owned and operated by Vail Resorts, Inc. We have Epic Passes and used them while we were here. Breckenridge Ski Resort opened in 1961 and has a total of 35 chair lifts. It has five peaks that are part of the Ten Mile Range. We stayed in nearby Frisco and made the short drive over each morning. We then took the BreckConnect Gondola to Peak 8 and began our day there. Lower Peak 8 is home to the base village of Breckenridge Ski Resort. There are places to eat, shop and rent gear in this area. For trails, there is a good mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced runs that you can access from Lower Peak 8. Check out Ullr, the Norse god of Snow statue while you are here at base village. My buddy and I are intermediate skiers that mix in some black runs here and there. I personally have been skiing since my teenage years. We spent most of our first day skiing runs off the Colorado and Rocky Mountain Superchair lifts to get our warmup reps in. We then finished our day hitting some blue runs over at Peak 6. There are a number of places to grab food and drinks. We hit Sevens (at the base of Peak 7) for an early morning Bloody Mary. We also grabbed lunch at T-Bar over at base village. But for the most part, we snacked on granola bars and other goodies that we carried in our pockets. We like to grab hotels that have a big continental breakfast so that we don't have to spend a lot of cash on food on the slopes. Day Two we wanted more challenging runs. Some people told us that Whale's Tail is a good challenge and fun to ski on. Whale's Tail is a double black diamond run that has a 604-foot drop, from 12,858 to 12,254 feet. It is nestled between Peak 7 and 8 and you have to take the Imperial Express lift to get to it. Imperial Express is the highest lift in North America at 12,840 feet. Crossing the catwalk in strong windy weather was no fun. But you get beautiful views of the entire mountain from the top of Whale's Tail once you get there. If was worth the challenge and we had fun skiing down it. The rest of the day we took it easy and skied mostly green and blue runs over at Peak 8 and 9 to wrap up our trip. We enjoyed hanging out in the town of Breckenridge after our two days of skiing. The town itself is very charming and has a number of bars and restaurants. Breckenridge attracts all sorts of outdoor enthusiasts in both the summer and winter. Breckenridge Ski Resort has made the town a popular destination for skiers since it opened in the 60's. The town is definitely worth a stop after a day on the slopes.

Our group ran a little late and I ended up being the only person who showed up, and the staff could not have been more patient or accommodating about it. I was fortunate enough to get what essentially felt like a private ride, which made the whole experience feel very personal. They give you a walkie talkie so they can share updates and explain what you're looking at along the way, which I really appreciated because it made the ride feel intentional and educational rather than just scenic transportation. The snowcat itself is super comfortable and cozy. There are seat belts, thick blankets in the seating area, and the heat kicks on so you are warm the whole time. The cabin has large glass panels on all sides, so you can see the forest, the mountains, and the groomed trails without being exposed to the cold. The ride is very gentle and smooth, and they move at a reasonable pace while being thoughtful about cross country skiers on the trail, stopping when needed to let people pass. I found myself completely mesmerized watching the grooming attachment in front reshape the snow and lay down those perfectly clean parallel ski tracks. We stopped at a historic cabin that had been relocated and rebuilt years ago, and it was cozy inside with a guest book and bits of history to read. I ended up wanting to get back into the snowcat fairly quickly because it was so warm and comfortable in there, and the views from inside were amazing. It was quiet, beautiful, and surprisingly peaceful, and I came away with some great photos on my film camera and a super memorable first snowcat experience.

A day pass is $30, which is a little pricey but ultimately worth it. You can rent snowshoes or Nordic skis for a similar price. My friends and I came here for snowshoeing and had a great time! They have a map which clearly marks the skiing and snowshoeing trails along with their level of difficulty. We did the willow (easy) snowshoeing trail which took about 40 minutes and offered beautiful views, a route under the gondolas and being in the trees with lots of cute squirrels. We left for breakfast and ended up taking the snowshoes on a different trail in town before returning them. The Nordic center is a great place to access fun winter activities in Breckenridge and worth checking out if you're in town!

Down below, parking is like $25.00 and the gondola ride up is free so I was all for that and it meant I got to enjoy the views on the ride up. The gondola takes you to the base of Peak 8 and is free to ride. Each cabin can carry up to eight passengers and goes 7,600 feet in about 10 to 12 minutes. The gondola makes two stops before making its way to Peak 8. If you want to go to the Independence SuperChair lift, the gondola makes a midway stop at Peak 7. Just make sure you have a lift or Epic Pass on you so that you can board the lift. The other stop is at Shock Hill Station and is for residents only. The gondola's main station is located just about a block from Main Street on the North side of town next to the Breckenridge Transportation Center. Even though it is free to ride the gondola, you still have to pay to park. There are also restrooms nearby. We enjoyed our ride up the gondola and the conversations that we were able to make with other skiers. The ride was smooth and you can't beat the views of the Breckenridge Ski Resort mountains. The gondola is open to everyone to ride (including dogs). The gondola isn't just for winter season activities. It is also a great way to visit the Breckenridge Fun Park during the summer season.

We had a mixed experience of good and bad, but were really disappointed in their ridiculous resort fees- be aware before you book! For a two bedroom we had to pay $280 in resort fees which was explained/ "justified" as fees for maintenance, to use their pool, theatre, shuttle service, etc. As a time share owner I can say, we already pay this for our home resort, and I know the Hyatt doesn't charge incoming guests who've traded a "resort fee" to use these amenities, because we as owners already pay for this with our yearly maintenance fees. I'm sure they charge their owners maintenance fees already, so it feels like they are double dipping. We don't even use all of their amenities, but had to pay the ridiculous fee, we can go to Motel 6 and not have to pay a resort fee to use their pool or park, feels very tacky and unnecessary. Not only that, they don't even have air-conditioning! With all the pollen flying around, if you have allergies, you don't get the luxury of opening the door and windows to enjoy the breeze. The roll away bed they charged me for came dirty, and despite numerous attempts to bring me a clean mattress cover, no one could ever locate one so we weren't able to use it. The good- Rooms are very spacious and well laid out. Master bathroom is huge and sofas were very comfortable! The kitchen was very basic but we were able to make breakfast each morning. The movie theater was fun and we reserved that a few times. Location isn't right on the Main Street but just a short drive away. Property looked well maintained and clean. If it wasn't for the crazy resort fee and lack of AC, we would have rated this resort higher. Even the representatives at interval said they hadn't seen such a fee in other resorts, but after I was about to book a place in Southern California and saw "Grand" in the title, I looked there in fact was a fee, must be their chains so be aware

Our card wouldn't even get us a ride on the gandalas and back down. So I went back inside to ask the girl that gave us our snowboard gear if this was the case that the basic slopes were closed? And she replied "yeah unfortunately that is true" I then ask "okay so what are we supposed to do then?" She looks at me and slowly shrugs her shoulders and tells me "idk" ..............................what exactly do you mean you don't know what I'm supposed to do?..... It was then that Miguel at the other counter interjects and says "I can help you with a refund if you don't take the gear up" (he wasn't there originally when the two girls at the counter helped us get our snowboard gear) My thing is yeah obviously I'm getting a refund if I'm not even able to do what the ticket was purchased for? Like DUH you're giving me a refund! That's what the girl at the counter with the bandaid on her chin should've offered in the first place...a solution...a refund. Also these tickets were purchased almost 2 months ago, why allow the ticket purchases if those specific slopes are going to be closed? Let alone no email communications stating as such, no signs up saying anything. Not only that you have to scan your pass to get your boots, they scan it again to get the snowboard and helmet. If you knew the slopes that my ticket was for was closed at the time of you scanning to give me my gear, why wouldn't you say anything? Mind you I flew here from out of town. I think that's so rude and I will never be back here. I hate when ppl in customer service are incompetent and ignorant. We went around to the front and dealt with Julia, she was nice and offered a refund no problem. She then added a trip for us to ride the gandala up.

Be aware that the hotel front desk will not assist anyone staying through VRBO and every interaction with Hunter was extremely unpleasant. He was consistently rude and unhelpful. When our unit owner contacted the front desk to ask for assistance retrieving our key from the locker, Hunter appeared visibly annoyed he had to help. Additionally, when we asked the front desk to provide a key that we gave to him to our adult children upon their arrival, he refused. The hotel feels dated and tired and the food was inedible. Sean, the manager, made my wife incredibly uncomfortable by being aggressive and dismissive. She called me ans asked if eh would talk to me, he aggressively said "what's his phone miner? Don't ask him!" He then said that she doesn't even have my last name... mind you that's not always the case Sean! My wife had our two toddlers after a long car ride and just needed some compassion and a bit of instruction on how to fix the situation but was instead met with hostility. I showed up around 7pm and Sean immediately became shaking upset when I tried to jsut describe how he could have jsut told my wife or me (on the phone) to call a number and add her. He checked me in and gave me a key, no holder with room number, had to ask, no parking instructions (only one spot), no map of property, no WiFi code... no apology without BS excuses. I regularly get better service at a Courtyard Marriott. If you are looking for somewhere great to stay I reccomend you go to the Grand Colorado or anywhere else in town. I personally had a really positive experience with my sales person Matt S. He was informed, and answered our questions. Of course they will embellish a few things, but there has not been one fact that was a complete lie as some claim. No it's not a scam as people claim. Just needed to share my experience on this, as I think a lot of people buy property they can't afford and then complain when it's difficult to reverse their bad decision. The property itself is just stunning with views from most units I've stayed at. Our two bedroom Coloradan unit faces the ski slopes. The interior being 1700 sq. ft. is commodious and super slick. The kitchen and dinning area can easily accommodate dinner for 10 at the dinning table alone with 6 more seats at the kitchen island. The living room area is equally accommodating. The decor is modern but still has the mountain feeling. The resort accommodations are amazing with several hot tubs, pool, fitness center, arcade and five movie theaters. The movie theaters are well equipped with big screens, theater seating and surround sound to die for. The only thing that is a bit lacking is the dinning situation. Very limited on the premises, but downtown of Breckenridge, which is a short drive away, more than compensates for this. Overall, if you love skiing, this in and out ski resort will not disappoint. Not big on owning timeshare, rent a vila and enjoy the powder anyways.
