We did a guided tour and our tour guide was a bit different in his approach to the stories behind the mine and Leadville. Very intriguing the similarity of the women back than and the women of today. They were very prominent in the development of this vast area. Very interesting and grabbing how the lives of these people all entwined to deliver a booming town and it's people. It is about 1 1/2 miles outside downtown Leadville and I think it's over-rated. There are 2 admission prices -- $6 per person ($5 for kids) for the self-guided tour or $10 per person for a guided tour. We were too late for the last guided tour of the day and opted for the $6 self-guided tour. There are 3 or 4 buildings (2 that you can actually walk into) and about 8-10 placards with descriptions of the mining operation and about Baby Doe. One building was the cabin where Baby Doe spent the final years of her life and included some pictures and a copy of her death certificate. You really didn't learn too much about Baby Doe from the displays in the cabin - her story was better told on one of the placards. The other building you could get inside had some displays of old mining equipment and tools but - again - not a whole lot of useful information. You learned more from the signs. Other buildings included a power magazine that you could look into and a couple of non-descript and otherwise unidentified shacks. Maybe the guided tour would have provided more information but by the end of my self-guided tour, I was glad I hadn't paid the extra $4 for the guided tour.

When we arrived at the launch site, the Camelot staff were helpful and excited. We were able to get up several thousand feet and we could see around the valley and the peaks surrounding the balloon.
