This was our third trip to Colorado and the best snowmobile tour we have been on yet! Joe a.k.a. Beans was a great guide from start to finish. We were picked up ahead of time at our hotel and throughout our ride to the trails he gave us great historical information about the region and little towns we passed through. Once we got on our snowmobile's he made sure that everybody felt comfortable and did not hesitate to explain if needed multiple times for some of the riders that were new. Out on the trails he did an awesome job of giving us information and allowing us time to get comfortable on the machines and provide great service of taking family pictures. This was by far the best snowmobile company and guide we have experienced in Colorado and will definitely be booking again next year and asking for Joe as our guide! We did the half day with lunch snowmobile guided tour with Nathan, and it was awesome! Not only was he full of interesting information, but he took us on some really cool trails. He kept the pace appropriate for the group, while making sure everyone still had fun. My son, who is 14, was so stoked to be able to drive his own machine and now wants to work there :). My husband and I have done a lot of tours as we love to travel. We both agreed that this half day snowmobile tour with Nova Guided was one of the best tours we have done. We were picked up at our hotel in Vail by our tour guide Joe. The ride up the mountain was a little scary for us because we are from Miami, Florida and we aren't use to the winding roads going up a mountain but Joe drove very safe so that was a big plus. He also gave a lot of historical information throughout the ride, we learned a lot about the towns he took us through. Once we got to the tour lodge, they provided helmets, boots and a very well kept snowmobile. Joe went over all the safety features and made sure we felt comfortable with our ski. The entire time he kept an eye on the entire group to make sure we were all safe and having fun. The trails were breath taking, we had plenty of time on the ski and the bonus for us was the play time he gave us to do our own thing with the skis. If you love pictures Joe will take all the pictures you ask for and he takes amazing pictures. I will share some of my favorites on this review. We did a snowmobile tour in Canada, compared to this tour, it was very limited and although the views were beautiful the ride on the trail was not very long and we had no free time with the skis. I highly recommend this tour, the trails are beautiful and you will have a great time. The next time we visit Vial, we will do the day long tour and request that Joe be our tour guide. read more

Robin, Katrina and the entire snowmobile employees are the best. As snowstorms rolled in, Steve spent the time to help us navigate the best and safest way down the mountain to get into Denver. The views were out of this world!! Our tour guide Nico was fantastic! He was very informative, helpful and most of all, a lot of fun!! The downside was that we requested to speak to the manager to help us with an issue and he was never available nor did he call us back. We tried calling next day, never heard back. Then we went in the following day and we were able to catch him in person but he had a dismissive attitude. It goes a long way to show empathy in your tone of voice. This was a wonderful adventure. For those not skiing or snowboarding, snow mobiles were a great alternative for us to still have fun. We did the half day with lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the food. We were picked up and dropped off from our hotel very promptly by a kind older gentleman that gave us lots of information about Vail, it was great. I loved that the adventure included gear and we were able to rent goggles. The tour was amazing, we went up and down so many trails, got to circle around the campground for fun, and got lots of pictures. Our guide also gave us lots of history and we loved that. It was slightly expensive, but worth every penny. Our only recommendation is to buy yourselves some hand and feet warmers because we were numb at the end haha. read more

We took the top of the Rockies tour and it was worth EVERY PENNY. At first we were a little skeptical on wether we wanted to take the 3 hour tour as it seemed like a long time for people who had never driven snowmobiles before. I'm SO HAPPY that we decided to go through with it though! Every minute was fun - especially our super cool tour guide Carter! This is definitely a little bit more strenuous of a tour as you go above 12,000 ft but my advice is to bring water and some snacks as there are plenty of stops to take pictures and relax. I highly recommend this tour and can't wait to go again. Side Note: if you get lucky, your tour guide will be Carter. He is awesome and has EXTENSIVE knowledge of the tour and area. This is my THIRD time making a reservation at NOVA guides for a guided ATF tour at Camp Hale. This is the first time, I had issues and their felt unwelcomed. We had several issues this time around: * They won't let my party pay separately, even though I confirmed with the phone reservation person we would be able to! I had a party of 13 people (8 bikes). I paid for them all to avoid the issue and keep it moving. * Then Kevin (front desk) tells me he has to put a hold on my credit card for $1,000 for each ATV. That was $8,000 on top of the costs which was $2,000 costs, luckily that is not a problem for me but I was never told during my phone reservation, so if you are on vacation and cant have a HUGE hold on your credit card this is not the place for you. We did the event on Friday and today is Tuesday the $8K hold is still pending. Also this is something new that they implemented in 2022, because I was there with another large group in September 2021 and I was not asked to put a $1,000 deposit per ATV. * Third issue, they had little to no help so once we got the helmets we waited a long time so our guide could check each bike, he requested help numerous times but they were getting set-up for a wedding so that was priority. There were three large parties and we were all kind of waiting around for the guides to do it all. * Last issue, it was about 1:55pm when we heard Kevin calling through the walkie-talkies at our guide to get moving because lunch was ready and we needed to be done by 3pm. We can all hear and he was not asking nicely, first off all we were late because of the lack of help, second none of the other groups were there when we got back. Even when we got back we heard and saw his behavior. The customer service is lacking this time around, this is the first time I had to deal with Kevin and last. I will find another location for next year. The location and views are great. Our guide SPOON is awesome and he made us all feel welcomed, made us laugh and really got our group excited. He had a lot of knowledge of the area and nature. SPOON was the highlight of the day and we are thankful for his friendliness and help. read more

Made a reservation to have a two person guided tour, they arranged to have a car pick us up at our hotel. When the day came to get picked up I actually had the wrong date. The lady on the phone at Nova Guides was very helpful and was able to squeeze us in last minute. When we got to the location all the staff members were very helpful and welcoming. They had all the extra gear like helmets and gloves for anyone who didn't have it. We got our safety talk outside next to our snowmobile, was very informative. After we loaded up and headed out. The fam and I took a quick weekend trip into Vail after Turkey Day and were looking for something to do. We are an East Coast fam, so we are not skiiers, not snowboarders, and dang it that Adventure Park wasn't open for a couple more weeks, but we were in the mood for some kinda outdoor adventure. And you know what we realized none of us had ever done and had always WANTED to do? SNOWMOBILES! I actually kinda LOVE the way they have activities and adventures and just things to do in the mountains all available by calling one number (866-998-0696). Talk about efficient, I gave them a call at about 10am on a Saturday, crossing my fingers that the 5 of us would be able to get on snowmobiles that same day. Low and behold, the kind gentleman who answered my call was able to book all of us on a 2 hour snowmobile tour at 1pm that day. Enter Nova Guides. Just a nice, 40 minute mountain drive from Vail, they have the perfect mountain space for snowmobiles. Our guide Derek was awesome - helpful, informative, fun and friendly. He let us open up our machines towards the end of the trip and I won't tell you how fast I got, but it for sure made me want one for myself. They provide snow boots, snowsuits, helmets for free. Goggles are a couple $ extra, but you definitely need those. Bring snow gloves and definitely a neck gaiter or face mask because that 60 mph wind punch to the face HURTS (oops I told you how fast I went). If you're looking for something else to do in the area besides skiing, I HIGHLY recommend looking into some snowmobiles at Nova Guides. Definitely the highlight of our mountain trip. read more

Absolutely loved this place. Can't recommend high enough. We were a group of 4 adults east renting our own snowmobiles. They provided the sled, helmets, and snow boots as well as transportation to/from the hotel and we chose the morning ride/lunch option and the food was great with a full service bar. They did a nice job of waking everyone through the machine and we rode a "playground" track for about 15-20 mins so everyone could get used to the equipment. From there it was a lot of fun trails with a mix of zig zags, curves, and open fields to let it all out. INCREDIBLE scenery along the way. Our guide Mike was exceptional, making several stops along the way to give us the history of the area and some scenic stops for photos. If there is any complaint, it's something you can control which is to position yourself within the line to the speed you want to ride at. We all wanted to ride fast and in some stretches had to ride behind slower riders and most trails aren't wide enough to pass. Would be helpful for guides to assess along the way and reposition riders but if you are comfortable to just ask the person in front of you to switch places you can make it work. Also, buy the insurance. It's cheap and we saw someone who ended up needing it read more

I decided to surprise the boyfriend with a trip to Vail for Christmas and we would ring in the new year snowmobiling on top of the Rockies! I'm glad I found Nova Guides; it was one of the first tour groups to come up when you google snowmobiling tours/rentals in the Vail area. We called to book our trip, though I have to say the girl on the phone was not the nicest and sounded like she'd rather be anywhere but work. She also talked us out of booking the Full Day Top of the Rockies tour for some reason, stating that as first time snowmobilers, this would be a bit much.. WRONG!!! Don't listen to her!!! We got picked up from the Bear Lot in Avon because we were staying a bit outside of Vail and Avon was the furthest they'll go for door to door service. The van arrived on time and off we went! The van wasn't the newest but it wasn't horrible - Perry picked us up with 1 other couple in the car. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and told us about different towns we drove through. It was cool to see Gilman, an abandoned "ghost town" that used to be a mining town. They had to evacuate because the town no longer passes EPA standards and all the houses stand empty with cars/furniture/etc still inside. Nuts! The drive wasn't very far, about 20 mins and we felt taken care of and safe. When we arrived at Nova Guides, it was pure chaos!!! There was only 2 stalls in the bathroom so of course there was a line... they should maybe stagger the start time of all the tours to avoid the bottlenecks. The check-in counter was packed and so was the area for picking up snowsuits and snowboots. It was all huddled in 1 spot so it was madness during this time. I felt like my guide was a bit annoyed it took so long to get my equipment and get dressed, etc but there really isn't much you could do about it. The snowsuits they provide are pretty warm and light weight - not too bulky so that you can't move. I wore the snowsuit over my snowpants I already had on and was super warm during the whole snowmobile tour - and this was through one of the coldest days of the year at 7 degrees. The snow boots were comfy - I used foot warmers under my socks and in my gloves so I was nice and toasty. They sell handwarmers in case you didn't bring any - and lockers are available for rent for $1.50! They also have goggles you can rent if needed but it is highly recommended so the wind isn't blowing in your eyes. The goggles and helmet keeps your head pretty warm. Just cover up your nose and mouth area with a scarf or something.. it could get chilly with the wind. The helmets were required and they were fairly new - all the equipment was good and didn't smell, thank goodness!! They did a briefing on how to turn on and use the snowmobiles, then they assigned you one and we were off! We were lucky that everyone in our group was able to drive fairly quickly. The guide gauges where to take you based on your group's abilities - the slowest person will always be behind the guide and he can only move as fast as the slowest person. We had Jake and he was pretty awesome! This is some of the best views you will get of the Rockies! You literally go to the highest peak and get an amazing view! We went through Camp Hale - an old military training area - and we were allowed to play and drive our snowmobiles in circles to get a hang of the machines/speed/etc. The trails were nicely cut out and sometimes a bit rough with the washboarding, especially if you're a passenger. The trails were beautiful though and the views fantastic. We were glad we booked the full day tour though because we dropped everyone back at the lodge, at lunch and went off on a private tour with Jake for the rest of the afternoon. The whole tour was about 6 hours total for the full day experience. Since we lucked out with a private, we were able to go on longer runs and see more of the Rockies! You get to pass areas like Shine, Red Cliff, etc inside Vail. The bf enjoyed the 2nd half way better than the first because were were able to explore some trails the guide wouldn't have done with a larger group. Overall, we loved the Top of the Rockies tour and Jake was amazing! Highly recommend this and Nova Guides. We felt safe, the equipment and machines were clean and new, the food for lunch was good and prepared before you come back. They had everything timed out right during lunch. It was a pleasant once in a lifetime adventure and we are glad we did it! Jake even drove us back to the Bear Lot afterwards! A crew of 8, Three adults, a 16, two 14s, an 11, and 8 took the two hour Tigawon tour and it was Awesome! None of us had ever been so we had no idea what to expect. This was a perfect intro tour for new timers. They had helmets and full snow suits if you didn't bring your own cold gear. Check in was super easy, they had everything ready. Check in is in a very efficient (and WARM!) trailer so if that's all you see when driving up...you're in the right spot! Our guide was Perry and he was the perfect mix of serious and fun. These are big powerful machines and while they are fun you have to know what you are doing to stay safe! Two of our drivers were 14 so this was key. He gave excellent instructions we could all follow that allowed us to have a jammin' good time but be safe too! One of our littles gloves got wet and she was in cold pain. He was expert about getting her warm and having items in his kit that helped. He even got family pics of us, he's the coolest! The trail: Absolutely breathtaking beauty. It snowed during our ride so it was truly magical. They give you a couple stops to play in the snow and take photo ops. The hot cocoa and cookies stop is not to be missed! The trails were very well groomed and in perfect condition. The kids had a blast once they were comfortable getting up into the high speeds on the mobiles. This is the best time our family had on vacation. I'd recommend them over and over to anyone. You can rent snowmobiles but Should you? That is the question. I think the place is good. They clearly go over the rules with you and expect you to follow them. We should but we see tracks and it is very easy to go Off the beaten path and into unfamiliar territory. All staff are friendly and professional and honestly not afraid to reprimand you If you cannot or did not Follow The directions. They still make the best of tough situations. I highly recommend the tour guided rides with a professional in the snow especially when there has been recent snowfall. My son (16 year old) and myself got Stuck twice. I think we wanted the adventure and to be in control of our speed and spending our time together. However, we are from sunny California. We have experience atving in dirt and the only time we had been on a snowmobile was 10 Years ago when we took a guided tour in Mammoth. I would highly recommend experienced riders and people Familiar with snowfall and also with snowmobiling rent the equipment to venture out on their own. I wish I would have done the guided tour in retrospect. Sometimes being independent and an adrenaline seeker isn't all It's cracked up to be. We got Through it thankfully and We survived without any broken bones of even a scrape on ourselves or the equipment.. however, we did pay to be rescued twice. Again, I suggest being honest with yourself and your experience level before taking an adventure. "Spoon" said the only difference between aN ORDEAL and an adventure is your attitude. I agree. Let me start off by saying, no one in my group has been snowmobiling. Getting there: We were running late since we woke up a bit late, but the staff was completely understanding about the situation. We even arrived late and they let us still ride the whole 2 hours we paid for. Tip: they send a message with directions to get there, they ask that you do not use GPS. You will lose signal and get lost. The directions were easy to follow, you just have to pay attention. Arrival: We did the unguided tour so we were a bit nervous, but the gentleman explaining everything answered all of our questions. He answered them honestly too, people do get hurt, often, and you never fully have control of a snowmobile, but following directions will minimize the chances greatly. We had 2 doubles and a single. He showed us how to use everything and explained the map well. The service here is elite from the minute you walk in until you leave. Snowmobiling: simple to use one, never get too comfortable though. Things change quickly. It was super fun, worth the money and the trip to get there! Try them out! My trip to Denver on December 4th was so amazing. We had a hard time finding a place to snowmobile but I located Colorado Snowmobiling which is affiliated with Nova Guides. We were told the tour would be 2 hours, but we actually were on tour for close to 3 hours. We paid 175 per person and 20 dollars for insurance (some didn't), but it was well worth the money. Also this place is located deep in the mountains so DO NOT use a GPS! FOLLOW their directions and you won't get lost.. anyways I cant wait to visit again. read more

My group had a fun experience renting ATV's with Nova Guides. We had an unguided tour with the help of their provided map. The trail wasn't as clear as it could have been, I would have preferred if there were markers on the trail to help guide you. They have 4 hours worth of trail you can cover. The terrain is slightly rocky and hilly but you are traveling through the mountains, so it's to be expected. There weren't any animals on our path but I understand a moose did visit them that morning. The grounds are beautiful! The staff was pleasant with the exception of one instructional guide who was pretty stern. No doughnuts allowed. Boo! Overall I had a great experience with Nova Guides, it was a beautiful and scenic ride from Vail. I would recommend them as a guide for recreational activities at reasonable rates. read more

I was quite disappointed in my 2 hour tour.  We did not spend much time riding the snowmobiles.  My family of 3 were grouped with a (large) group from Georgia who wanted to spend extra time during our three stops - mostly for snowball fights.  We also finished our tour an hour and 40 minutes after starting!  This was late in the season, so there was lots of slush at the lower elevations - but that was expected.  I don't know if that was a factor in the much shorter tour.  (I was charged full price). Another disappointment was that what is described on the website is not what is offered.  Per the website:  "Soak in some spectacular views of Vail's Back Bowls, Notch Mountain, and four surrounding mountain ranges".  We did not go to a location to view the back bowls.  When I asked the guide I was told the 2 hour tours do not include this.  What?  Why is it in the description for the 2 hour tour? Lastly, this Nova Guides is not affiliated with Nova Guides in Alaska who offers fabulous tours. read more

I would have given this a 5/5 as one of my all time favorite vacation activities, but I also came very close to getting seriously, seriously injured. We rented ATVs and the guide made it sound like they were impossible to flip unless you were doing donuts. He told us to keep it in high gear at all times and that we wouldn't need four wheel drive. I followed those directions and went around 8mph-20mph the entire time, except on the very flat road that cars were driving on. There was no mention that there was a trail we "definitely shouldn't go on." At the very end of the tour, we had time to kill, and took a left up a trail marked for ATVs. Apparently that was "not supposed to be for us." I flipped the ATV over fully on top of me and had to crawl out from under it. I then was going insanely slow trying to get off the trail and avoid flipping again and ended up having to jump off as I lost control of the ATV and it went over a switchback. I had no skill level to be on that trail and there was NO INDICATION that it was not part of the "impossible to flip" trails we had been told about. When we went back to the company the man behind the counter acted more mad about the cosmetic scratches on the bike than worried that it had landed on top of me. Due to the scratches they are charging 2k to replace all the parts that were scratched. They then brought out another bike and accused us of having damaged that one, and after an argument they conceded that it had in fact been flipped on "the first day" by another party and was not our fault. The way the man behind the desk acted really added insult to injury, because quite honestly rather than charging for scratches they should have been profusely apologizing for their poor directions and failure to provide accurate safety information. read more

Each of us paid $170 pp for 3 hours of snowmobiling taking turns to be drivers and passengers. It wasn't hard at all to do it. The instructions were less than 5 mins and off I went driving a snowmobile first time in my life! The tour took us to see the former wwii barracks in the backcountry. There were two places where we could do donuts and round and round we went! The 2nd place has steeper slopes if you want to get some air like us - super fun. We got stuck at some fresh snow and it's really important to stay on tracks! Tom told us already but we didn't listen... Tom was a great guide with a lot of patience. The equipment were just alright. They couldn't find a pair of boots with matching size for me and one of them had the drawstring loose so at one point leg was exposed to the chilling wind and it was cold! The helmet stank a bit so it's good I brought my thin beanie. They did spray all the equipment down with Lysol afterwards but still you can't get rid of all the stench if someone is stinky. The lunch at the cafe afterwards (included in the tour) was so good!!! The fries were hot and crispy, and the sandwich cheese was perfectly melted. I'd recommend this company for snowmobiling, but the gear weren't in the best condition, still acceptable though. Thanks for the fun day!! read more
