Went to the store to buy some ski pants, as they have a best collection of Burton, North Face, HH, CG and some of the most familiar brands. The store is full of options. They have all things covered for ski/snowboarding activities. They provide maintenance service, as well as rentals for boots, googles, helmets. Prices of products and rentals are competitive. The store was super busy when we went Saturday afternoon. All associates were friendly and helpful to us. We walked to with two pairs of ski pants. I visited this store in Paramus few years back, for refurbishing my snowboard. I had a solid experience back then. Absolutely recommend this store for any ski/snowboard related shopping. read more

The good: I've been coming to Ski Barn with my family for ski rentals for a few years. The fitters are consistently great - friendly, good with kids, and know how to size boots appropriately. Despite the hectic season, the staff does well. The bad: I brought my own boots/skis in for a tune-up for this season. While I discussed what I needed with one of the men behind the counter, another guy working there came over and informed me that my skis are actually not mine; they are rentals from Ski Barn, which I never returned. I tried to explain a couple of times that I owned my boots and skis and bought them at a Ski Barn sale event a few years ago. I've also brought them to be tuned at Ski Barn each season with no issues. The guy was adamant that I was wrong and trying to service rentals, implying that I never returned a pair and was trying to pass them off as my own. Not only was he completely wrong, his tone was incredibly rude. I explained again; he doubled down. By looking at their computer system, it is easy to see my rental record, and he could quickly see that in all my years of renting, I've never rented adult skis. I only rent for my children. Why would I have an adult rental that I never rented? But he could not back down. Instead, he made insulting remarks to me, which said more about him than me. He still could not concede, so he said he was just not going to pursue it anymore. The best part is - which we found out toward the end of our altercation - it turns out his dad is the owner of Ski Barn and actually was the one who fitted me and sold me my boots and skis a few years back. So no, they are not rentals:) His dad knew how to make a sale and get a family of customers. His son just figured out how to lose us. I will complete our transaction this season, but in the future, we are going to Mt. Everest Ski Shop. ETA: After I pick up our skis, I will take them to the shop on the mountain we're going to for a quick check because I would genuinely not be surprised if this guy messed around with our equipment out of spite. read more

I went to here for a couple years and the customer service, product selection, and ski rental program is great for noobs getting into skiing that can spend $$$. However, DO NOT give them your ski's for any kind of service. They completely do not care about the starting condition of your skis despite you paying for the full service option. Meaning, they do not clean off any debris or any extra wax, and will simply go OVER what is already there just so they can say they did something... Wow. I only realized the crap/nonexistent job they did when I got to the ski lodge, so I just decided to take the loss and never go back there again. read more

Let me start by saying that Ski barn is probably one of the most busiest ski apparel shops in the tri-state area, and there's never been a time where I visited the store and haven't had to wait a while for service when it comes to boots or skis. However, with that said, it is absolutely worth the wait. Rick Vanek is one of the best at what he does, and I always try to seek him out when I visit, however, last weekend he was occupied, so I had to put my name on the waiting list. An unassuming, younger woman by the name of Abby was readily available, and when I tell you, I probably gave her the most difficult time in assisting me because I had my mindset on what I wanted. Boy was I wrong. After guiding me, even against my will at times, she ended up giving me exactly what I needed, not what I wanted. Every boot that I tried on that I came in for ended up not being sufficient enough for my feet. She never lost patience with me, and ultimately, she put me in a boot that I would've had never chosen. The irony is these boots are the most comfortable boots that I've ever worn and they are also at the skill level of what I was seeking. Rick actually recognized me and came up to say hi as Abby was servicing me, and just smiled silently. He knew that she knew her stuff. I can't praise her enough for taking care of me thoroughly and ultimately giving me exactly what I came for. Don't let her young appearance fool you, she's more skilled at what she does than some other individuals at other shops twice her age. I've been skiing for over 26 years, and this young lady just schooled me. Abby, thank you so much for putting up with a hardheaded veteran like myself. I highly, highly recommend anyone that is looking for the proper ski boots to visit this location and ask for Rick or Abby in a heartbeat. Well done! read more

They ensure that the fitting is just perfect no matter how many times they have to re-fit the shoes which is hugely appreciated since you don't want to have any nasty surprises on the slopes with cold and whining kids! The store actually stocks ski rentals, skis for sale, ski boots and ski related clothing in the fall and converts to outdoor furniture during the summer months. If you go after Labor Day they are usually doing a huge clearance of their stock of outdoor furniture and you can score some great deals on their stock which they're trying to get rid of and some specially great deals on floor samples. Similarly they do a stock clear out of their cold weather gear around President's Day when they start to stock the outdoor stuff. read more

The staff in the rental department was very nice, however the women working at the front counter area are incredibly rude. I was shocked by the nasty attitudes and the way they spoke to certain customers. It's a very strange vibe when you walk into the store with an older gentleman sitting at the door watching as if you're going to steal something. The store at Big Snow in American Dream Mall is much more welcoming and helpful. I will never go back to Ski Barn Paramus again. I really don't know how this place stays in business. read more

I bought my board boots and bindings from here in 2020 and in 2023 I ended up delaminating almost the entire bottom of the board. I brought the board back into the store as soon as it broke and all they seemed interested in was getting me to spend more money. They offered to charge me to ship the board to the company to get it fixed but told me I'd be wasting my time and money doing so. I walked out of the store with my broken board and the guy tried selling me a new one on my way out. The second I got home I called the board company and they sent me a brand new updated model of the same board I broke within 2 weeks entirely free of charge. I feel like the service I got was super anti-customer which left me with a bad inpression of the store. They did not encourage me to call the board company to see what would happen nor did they help me with the return process outside of printing my old receipt for me. I was there about 2 months ago to get my kid's ski rentals. their kids rental has great selection and staff was all very friendly and hlepful. While waiting, I was selecting helmet for myself. After spending more than 30 min, one of the staff checked in on me. I was VERY GRATEFUL for his genuine recommendations: he talked me out of buying one of the Large helmets i have tried on and was interested in buying. I can't fit in any of the women's helmet so I have to move to Large, beven though they are rocking on my head. Before when I was renting in the resorts, i just put my pony tail in the back to balance but he points out that it's not really safe. He even honestly tell me to look up online for Asian fit or Global fit (and later on I also learned it can also called Round Contour Fit) some brands carry on their offical website. Even though ski barn didn't carry those, but the staff there are so knowledgable and honest to help you to get the stuff that fit your the best! finally I found a great Asian fit helmet from GIRO.com that fit my head perfectly. Tom recommended the K2 Mindbender 130's with the new BOA tech, while Leyla fitted them and cooked up some super sweet custom footbeds. Having been a customer myself, I've never had serious issues with anything or anyone. However recently my 80 year old grandma went to pick up parts for a roof rack and she encountered a rude employee. Knowing my grandma, she can be a bit misunderstood and has an old fashion way of speaking to people, but she never means any harm or foul. After the discussion with her salesman, he told her that he "wanted nothing more to do with her and that he would mail the rest of the parts". Pictured is how she received 2 small parts - taped over and over and over again, so thick that she couldn't get scissors through it! I understand having a difficult customer because I've encountered many while bartending, however, as the OWNERS SON I would hope that keeping your loyal customers would be a top priority. We had an awful experience. My husband and I had received gift cards from my mother for Christmas. My husband had wanted to get our skis/snowboard waxed and sharpened, so he packed them in the car and went up the ski barn in Paramus. When he went to pay, the cashier informed him that the gift card had already been used and the balance was zero. Obviously we know we didn't use the gift card, so my husband speaks with a manager, and explained the situation to her. They went back and forth for a bit trying to figure out what could have happened. Long story short, my mom called the ski barn in shrewsbury where they were purchased, and they looked up her credit card, found the gift card, realized it wasn't us that used them, and credited us back the money. I bought a pair of snowboard boots that did not break in after 2 trips from another Ski Barn location causing me pain from pressure points. I was forced to take multiple time outs throughout the days to relieve my expansive feet. When i stepped in, James from this store explained my current snowboard boots were two sizes too big and that my feet were a wide. This answer came after he measured me and I explained what was happening.James further explained his pride in taking complete care of his clientele, and making absolutely sure that he and his team leave all customers absolutely happy. James then proceeded to pull out a boot that felt immediately better for my wide feet without a break in, and assured me that his Paramus store would take the return in lieu of the other Ski Barns mistake. I went in just expecting normal service, and left in complete and utter awe. Thank you for the incredible customer service and experience James! Please take pride in the fact that your part of the 1% of what you do, and you have now made a long time patron of your store. We were there for about an hour and walked out so happy. They helped us pick out such a beautiful set up and it was delivered within a week. Terrible experience at the Ski Barn in Paramus NJ. I dropped my skis off to be waxed and have the bindings checked. The guy behind the counter brought them to the back to double check that the bindings were on "the list" of allowable bindings to service. He said he didn't think they would be and when the other guy in the back looked, he also was convinced that they were too old. But he said when they actually went to the list to check, they were very surprised to see that the bindings were in fact on the list. He told me I was lucky but to assume they probably wont be on the list for next year. I went to pick up my skis a week later. They gave me my boots and skis as if there were no issues. I also never received any calls from them. When I went home and read through the receipts/fine print, I saw that every category in the binding check was listed as a fail. It appeared as if this was an error (the pass category was listed next to this column), especially because nothing was ever said to me about anything "failing". When I called, I spoke with Layla, who agreed that it seemed like an error, but suggested that I drive back to the store (20 min drive and I had just gotten home from the store), to double check. I drove back to the store with my boots and skis. They told me my bindings were not on "the list" and were never serviced or checked, and that is why every category was a fail. I had to drive 20 mins there and 20 min back just for them to tell me that nothing was actually done. Additionally, had I not double checked the paperwork, I would have assumed that everything was fine. Again, no phone call and no one mentioned anything to me when I initially picked up my skis. This is a huge liability. Needless to say, I will never use Ski Barn again and would advise against it to anyone reading this. read more

I made a $6k purchase back in July 2019 which included an outside table. When delivered it came with a broken piece. After some back and forth Ski Barn was unable to fix the table so, instead, they replaced it with an upgraded table. The came to my home, removed the old table, replaced with the new table and even dropped off some wine as an apology. You can tell they take the relationship with their customers extremely seriously. Can't say enough good things about the staff and their honest, in depth knowledge of gear etc - all without EVER pressuring you to spend more than you need or that is appropriate. On multiple occasions I've opened the door to an upsell and been given honest feedback that has convinced me not to spend unnecessarily. We continue to rent ski for our kids and the prices are right and the equipment is very good. When I've had issues with equipment I've purchased they've worked with me to get it right and we're more than fair with the way they've handled the return / exchange. More than fair. We went to Ski Barn in Lawrenceville on two different occasions and waited hours for anyone to help us to buy skis. No one ever spoke to us to offer assistance. IN PERSON, I waited for someone to help me get a certain size boot, standing there patiently, no one even cared to come over and help.. so I then went to the cashiers to ask if they could help me get a snowboarding boot and they said they couldn't help me and I had to wait in the snowboard section. Unfortunately she left the store ridiculed and embarrassed by a majority of the employees there, and on top of that, she was not allowed to return the item because they "didn't have enough cash." They never apologized for not having the money and proceeded to taunt her. The employee "Willy" pretended to be the manager of the store when asked if we could speak with to him or her. A few weeks back I purchased Atomic Cloud 9 (2020) skis with Atomic bindings at SKI BARN (Paramus, NJ). I put my trust in SKIBARN to adjust and test my new equipment according to height /weight /age/level of expertise. Skiing can be a dangerous sport if the equipment or conditions are not up to par. I was excited for the seasons to begin. On 12/12/19 I drove 90 miles north to ski https://skibutternut.com/ with two friends. The conditions were perfect, sunshine, no wind, groomed piste's and no crowds since it was mid-week and still early in the season. The first day of skiing ahead of us! On my first run down a green piste (no matter one's level of expertise, one should take it easy the first few runs of the season to ensure everything feels just right) the right-back binding suddenly pre-released without any forced movement, resulting in a fall. I was mystified -- I got up, put on the ski and continued downhill. Within minutes, the same right foot back-binding released AGAIN, this time resulting in a bad fall and broken ribs. It could easily have resulted in a much worse injury such as a broken neck. I was picked up by ski patrol and brought to the emergency room. My boots, bindings, and skis were immediately checked by the service department at Butternut. The front and back binding had both been set equally at 5. As a ski shop catering to a wide range of customers, SKI BARN should know that VERY RARELY is front and back bindings setting the same. After a proper torque test, Butternut made the needed adjustments to the back binding (from 5 to a 6) to ensure the binding would not release prematurely. A torque test is a MUST. Upon calling SKI BARN the following day I was informed by ROB LANE, the general manager, SKI BARN follows Atomic's "recommended settings". Either those settings are not good enough to keep us safe or SKI BARN did a SLOPPY job. Regardless of what ROB LANE told me, I question that a proper torque test was done to my equipment. It's his word against mine. What I DO KNOW is that my bindings, that they set, pre-released without any force resulting in a bad fall. MY ACCIDENT WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITH THE PROPER RELEASE TEST (TORQUE TEST). And I can only hope it will never happen to you -- since it could go way worse. I call SKI BARN IRRESPONSIBLE and NEGLECTFUL. I highly recommend purchasing from a shop that takes more responsibility than offering a "refund for returned Skis + Bindings" and to pay the meager "$25 for the additional adjustment" done by the Butternut's responsive and professional staff. A correct response would have been "We want to gain your trust back. Free skis and bindings, keep the Atomic or come in for a different brand." Why should I pay for SKI BARN'S ultimately dangerous services that put me in the emergency room, in ongoing severe pain for weeks to come, and put my ski season out for at least 6 weeks? We deserve to be better treated by the businesses we put our trust and money in. There is plenty of businesses that are willing to go the extra mile. SKI BARN IS NOT ONE OF THEM. Empty words of insurance are meaningless. The proof is in the pudding. SHAME on SKI BARN. If you have purchased equipment from SKI BARN, do yourself a huge favor before you hit the slopes this season, have the setting checked by independent professionals who care about YOUR SAFETY & WELLBEING. read more

My wife and I were ignored when we first arrived at Ski Barn. While I appreciate not being pestered, I expect that the staff would show some interest in making a sale. Once I was working with a staff member, I was told that Ski Barn had the boots I was looking for. However, the salesperson recommended I go with a set of ski boots that was half-a-size smaller than my previous pair. (I've since learned that choosing a smaller pair of boots can be a strategy to improve performance. However, that is a separate issue). I was reluctant to purchase a smaller size. The salesman's response was, "If you take our advice and the boots don't fit, you can then exchange them for a different size." He then added, "But if you don't take our advice then we're not gonna exchange them for you." There is no way his second statement can be true. That would mean that a different exchange policy applies to each customer. It was a macho, hard-sales tactic meant to make me feel unsure of my position. Yet, the boots felt ok in the store, so I decided to give them a try. I'm happy to report that the boots fit well while I was skiing. However, I had a troubling feeling all weekend, that I was pushed into doing something I was uncomfortable with. I give Ski Barn the extra star in this review, because the salesperson was technically correct in his recommendation about the boots. However, I likely would have made the same purchase without his intervention and approach. Instead, I had a good ski trip, but a ruined sales experience. I wanted to score a new ski jacket whilst benefiting from end of season sales and mom also wanted to buy me a helmet for my birthday (gee thanks Maaaaaaa) so we headed over to Ski Barn! We walked in and immediately were greeted by a super friendly blonde sales woman. I told her that I am looking for a new ski jacket that is warm and that I currently owned a down Special Blend jacket in a minty green, but was looking for something a little less Barbie and more grown up (yeaaaaah I'm tired of looking like Ski Barbie). I noticed an awesome black North Face jacket with a cute furry hood (OK, so maybe a little Barbie still, but sleeker), however, they only had a Small or a Large, which did not do me any good seeing as I wear a Medium! The woman called a few stores in the area and luckily in another store somewhere in Jersey there was a size Medium they could ship to the Paramus location. Score! Thank you for your assistance lovely blonde lady! Now, to the back where the helmets are located. My mom has been bugging me for years to get a helmet and last season my best friend got into a bad snowboarding accident where she was luckily wearing a helmet (and even still had a concussion) so my mom basically strong armed me into her purchasing this as a gift to me. I guess life is a wonderful gift? The man in the back was cool when I told him I want a helmet that keeps my head warm. He picked one out that had vents, adjustable back and earphone plugs and I was on my merry way. Since it was the end of the season their inventory was kind of low, so there were no mittens that I liked. I wanted snowboarding mittens in black but they only had ski ones left in a Medium. I love when salespeople really know the products they sell. Service is getting harder to find and I'm so pleased every time I enter a Ski Barn store. During the summer months they sell high quality outdoor furniture, fire pits, grills and more. Each salesperson knows everything about the products and can answer all my questions. I love how they have their own delivery and set up crew! Purchases can be delivered and set up right away! In the winter my whole family goes in to get fitted for ski boots, snowboard boots and apparel. We are helped with everything we need right to the end. Absolute horrible customer service when it comes to returning a defective and used item. I went into the store to search for a new pair of ski goggles on a saturday. after trying on the different display model, I finally settled in on one after recommendation from the sales associate. He subsequently told me he would get a new one for me from the back. I took the new box that he gave and trusted that it was in new condition and promptly paid for the item at the register. After getting back home and few days later I unwrapped and opened my goggles and viewed that they were clearly used and had indents in the foam padding of the inside outline. I brought it back to the store within five days of purchase and requested for a refund since the item had clear marks of being used and not in new shape. The sales manager accused me of lying and said I used it to ski over the weekend. He would not believe or listen to my case. There were no quality control in terms of the products in the store and they will willingly sell you used items claiming to be new. After his boots were lost at a race in Maine this year, Mike jumped through hoops to source out another pair of the same boot and overnight them to Maine so he could get back on his skis asap. He even sent along a heater to custom fit the liners. We have since returned the heater but the gesture and trust were extraordinary in today's business environment. Customer service at it's best.
