My wife and I went to this Home Goods particularly because it's off the major highways. We were apartment shopping and wanted to purchase two rugs, delivered, as they would be too big for my small SUV. We mentioned this to the manager and the young man taking down our rugs. The manager stalked over when she heard we wanted the large rugs delivered. She barked back, "What kind of car do you have. We can fold them in half for you." Okay, I do NOT want my $600 per rugs looking like origami. I said, "I need them the first week of September." She rudely replied, "24 hours. That's how long I can hold the rugs for." Just her tone should have informed me that she wasn't interested in problem solving. Even if I agreed to wait on the rugs, which I certainly would have done, she blew the sale with her poor attitude. I visit this HomeGoods about once or twice a year. They have such huge amount of products that it gets overwhelming lol. But today's visit was more productive. I saw a nice Tommy Hilfiger bed cover for a decent price. Also my daughter picked a Bluey children's book. The store had lots of Halloween decor items, candies, popcorns and so many other things. The kitchen, bedding, and Bath sections were more crowded than others. Our checkout took few minutes. Three lanes were open but still it was little slow. The store in general is clean, but in different sections at times it's very messy and unorganized. Not many associates around either to assist or tidy up things. PROS: I'm a semi Home Goods fan because of their unique inventory. Different from stores like target this too has many categories of Home furnishing and appliances. The people here are always nice and they keep the place clean. The prices are okay, and the staff are reasonably nice and helpful, when you can find them. But you always have to wait a long time to check out. And do you know why? Because it's part of the business model. The checkout line is more like a gauntlet of consumption, with five-foot shelves on each side full of snacks, novelty items, and doodads. Didn't think you needed to buy a pumpkin-shaped candy plate for Halloween - in August? Now you do. Never considered gluten-free salsa-flavored lentil chips? Now you will. For 15 minutes or more, while you wait for a single cashier to slog through half a dozen customers, you'll be in a battle of wills... until some of these esoteric items make it into your cart (and onto your credit card). Employees are very nice. But be prepared to wait upwards of 20 minutes on the check out line. No matter what time or do you go, there is always a long wait. Usually only have two to three cashiers open at a time when there are 30+ shoppers on the check out line. read more

Wow I totally believe Mercedes's review below. I hopped onto Yelp to re review this Home Goods in Closter and just saw her review. I don't know if this is the same woman - but I had to write about the older Caucasian ladies who work at this store. I don't know if they realize they're working in Bergen County - a part of NJ and the country that is very diverse. When I recently visited, I noticed yet again that this store's older Caucasian lady staff (including the manager with the short blond hair) and a larger woman with glasses and with gray hair tied up in a bun) are way way friendlier to other Caucasian people and way less friendly to people of color. Wake up, Home Goods. This is Closter in 2021. We are not in what this area may have looked like when YOU were growing up. Change with the times or don't bother to work in customer service jobs! I routinely come to this location bc it is convenient. I've spent thousands of dollars here over the years. But it's time to say something particularly in light of the review below about that poor woman's experience. It is stocked incredibly poorly due to covid. I accept that. What I can't accept is when minorities are barely acknowledged while "people who look like you" are greeted with big booming "hellos!" The discrepancy is jarring, frankly. Home Goods corporate needs to look into this location and retrain these people bc these ladies are treating it like some kind of mini fiefdom. When half the clientele is people of color, give them equal treatment even if it's something as simple as greeting them warmly (or just don't greet anyone - I don't care as long as the manual says clearly it must be equal and it is enforced among employees -- even the manager.) read more

Just want to put it out there for the managers. Please educate the staff about how the old $100 dollar bills looks like & get a pen to authenticate the old ones if they think it's fake. They told me to take it back to the bank I got it from...REALLY These are still in circulation! I paid with an old $100 & was annoyed & embarrassed that the clerk & another lady said my bill was fake because it did not have the blue strip. WOW!!! Very cool Homegoods! They have a great art section, I feel like it's much bigger then the ones by me. Store itself seemed organized and filled with lots of cool stuff. It's almost impossible to leave with nothing! The seasonal section was adorable, love all of the Spring/ Easter decor! read more

Def my fav home goods I've been to so far in Bergen county. Out of edgewater, Paramus, and Bergen town center mall. They restock once a week so I do stop by here at least twice a week to see the new stuff they restocked on. They have a lot of diff department sections. My fav part is the baby and children's section I always get all my baby's stuff here discounted prices of course and whenever my 6 year old has a birthday party she gets invited to I get all the birthday cards, gift bags, presents here etc. the options are endless honestly. read more

I love that we have a new Home Goods in Closter and I am a frequent shopper. My only issue is that the store has no commitment to service. They let 12 people stand online with only two cashiers. Meanwhile they have people on the floor restocking. Management might take a look at this and get the priority straight. Customers should come before getting your section/store restocked! read more

My new preferred HomeGoods location. It's closer to home and I don't have to deal with the highway traffic on route 4. The store is always clean and most of the time staff are helpful and willing to assist. Occasionally you'll find the person who runs from you instead of helping when you have a question. Items are quality and prices are reasonable. The Paramus location I feel had a lot of broken items and the store is always a mess. read more

Receipt number 90786031769172293 I purchased a cookware that came out to be $18.16 total. The cashier was friendly but she was talking to someone else on another line, effectively not paying attention to the transaction. I handed her $18.20, and I actually said "Here's $18.20." Because she wasn't paying attention to me, she entered $18.16 in the cashing machine, assuming that I gave her an exact change. And when she realized that she mad a mistake, she took a few seconds playing around with the machine, then when I looked at my phone to see the time as I was running late, she handed me the receipt, said "here you go", then walked away from the counter then out to another section of the store. I looked at the receipt, and it says I gave her $18.16, the exact change she expected, instead of $18.20 which is what I actually gave her. She deliberately walked away from the issue, hoping that I wouldn't make a fuss about 4 cents. Well, I don't really care about the 4 cents and I was running late so I just went on my way, but this kind of behavior is not only acceptable, but it's taking advantage of customers' money, regardless of how small the amount is. If you ever shop here, double check your change, because the cashier may be seriously incompetent. read more

I'm a big Homegoods fan but unfortunately I will not be returning to this location. Closter needs to train their managers on diversity and inclusion. All customers should feel welcomed. I walked into this store excited with my twin girls and my sister. While I'm paying for my items which totaled at $600, my sister is at the next register paying for her items totaling at $500. Since she finished first and my cart was overflowing with items I purchased, I asked the lady at my register "Is it OK if my sister takes this $35 comforter I just bought for my girls to the car?". She says yes of course, I already took off the alarm for you. As my sister is walking away, a manager, Donna yells out 'Did she pay for that comforter?" Of course my sister keeps walking because we do not believe she is addressing us. Donna continues to yell out " DID SHE PAY for that comforter?!!! at this point I turn around and the lady at the register says yes she did. I say yes I DID!! She rolls her eyes and walks away. No apology. Nothing!!! I was humiliated and belittled in front of my children who Cannot stop asking me why did that lady treat us like this and I said because of the color of our skin and because she is tasteless. Because she is not educated enough. I am beyond angry and disappointed at the way we were treated. If she in fact wanted to know if I paid for the comforter, there was so many other ways this could have been handled. As we know the store is loaded with video cameras and I'm in front of the register still paying. She could have stopped my sister and ask, hey did we remove that alarm from the comforter for you. Was denied entry with my dog, despite previously being able to shop with her in this exact store. The reasoning behind it was that the town doesn't allow for pets inside stores where food is sold. That is a perfectly valid reason and I didn't fight the employee who told me that. Instead I cordially said okay no problem and walked away. A few days later I revisit the store and as I am shopping around I notice a woman with her dog in the cart. Why was this woman allowed in with her dog and I wasn't? I don't know if the fact that this customer was also of lighter complexion than me had anything to do with it, but I do wonder if that had something to do with it. I'm not sure. Also prior to this observation, I made a return and the cashier was so far from pleasant. She barely said a word, not even the basic pleasantries you'd expect from an employee. I felt like I was the one working and trying to engage with her as a customer. Overall it was not a pleasant experience and it sucks because this used to be my favorite HomeGoods store in Bergen County. I'll take my shopping elsewhere from now on. read more

I was very excited that HomeGoods was coming to Closter Plaza - I am a HomeGoods fan! After going to the Closter store about 5 times since it's opening I can say that it doesn't meet the standards of the Nanuet store. It doesn't seem that they bring in new stock very often - I'm so disappointed in the first few months. read more

The location is convenient and has a lot of potential. However, the inventory and layout could definitely improve. Since there are consumer behavior studies that discuss the functionality of the layout and how shoppers respond, I think the company would benefit from a little reorganization.... I absolutely love this HomeGoods! It is smaller than many other locations, but that makes it less overwhelming to go through and does not compromise selection. I find some of the best pieces here as compared to other locations and the home section of Marshall's/TJ's. Quality over quantity for sure! Staff is very friendly. I want to pay a compliment to Christian, an employee here. I was shopping a few weeks ago and he was so wonderful in helping my grandmother pick out items for her new bathroom! He was patient with us and knowledgable about the products and it was a very positive experience overall. He helped her pick out new towels, a mirror, and a few decor pieces.
