The restaurant is small and cozy, and we managed to snag the last table (cue victory dance). We shared three empanadas, Fugazzeta, and a salad--all delicious. But let's talk about the Fugazzeta, shall we? For those unfamiliar, Fugazzeta is a glorious, cheese-stuffed pizza from Argentina. Picture an avalanche of gooey cheese sandwiched between two layers of dough, crowned with caramelized onions. It's a masterpiece. I have been in the U.S. since 1978, and I had yet to find Fugazzeta here--until now! The moment I saw it on the menu, I knew it was destiny. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Cheesy? Oh yes. Borderline illegal amounts of cheese? Possibly. Crispy crust on the edges, soft and pillowy everywhere else--pure perfection. The empanadas? Excellent. Paired wonderfully with a glass of Malbec. Service was warm, friendly, and welcoming--just the cherry on top of an already great meal. Now, my friend has been trying to convince us to move to Inverness for a while. And well... this place might just tip the scales.

They took care of our all of needs with a smile and attentiveness that was refreshing. Their buffet was VERY good starting with a small but filled salad bar table including a delicious homemade potato salad - one of the better tasting ones that I've had in awhile. It also had pudding included. I didn't try it because I seen on the hot table a dessert that I wanted. The hot food buffet had four different meats, roast lamb with mint jelly on the side, roast turkey with a cranberry sauce on the side, ham and roast pork. The vegetables on the steam table were homemade mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole and a split pea soup. I tried the ham, the turkey with cranberry sauce and for the first time ever roast lamb with mint jelly as my meats. They were all delicious and I was surprised that I liked the lamb with mint jelly because I was always a little leary to try lamb because I heard it could have a gamey taste. Their lamb didn't not taste gamey at all - well seasoned and roasted perfectly. I did enjoy it plain and with the jelly. The turkey was moist and delicious. I dipped it in their brown gravy - again very, very good. Even their split pea soup was to my liking. When we asked to speak with a manager, the owner came over and immediately acted like we were making it up. There was no apology, no concern, and no effort to make the situation right. She simply said, "oh... really, okay," picked up the plate, and walked away. There was no follow-up or resolution, and we were later brought a bill that still included the slice. We even tried to locate the spider to show we weren't lying--that's how dismissive the interaction felt. When I asked the owner whether she intended to still charge for the slice she had taken, she responded while walking away, "Do you want that or it taken off?" The tone and attitude were dismissive and unprofessional. At that point, it wasn't even about the slice--it was the complete lack of basic customer service. Had the situation been handled with even minimal professionalism, we likely would have paid and left without issue. On top of that, the seafood linguini was disappointing--no flavor, no garlic, very small portions of seafood that tasted frozen, and empty clam shells. For…read morethe second year we are spending a couple of weeks in Inverness, enjoying the wonderful symbiotic arrangement of watching over a friend's pet while staying in their beautiful Florida home. And for the second year, we made sure to dine at La Pergola, including one night eating in and another ordering takeout. The service continues to be lovely. I always enjoy chatting with the owner, a fellow compatriot, which adds a warm personal touch to the experience. This time, however, the food did not quite live up to our memory of last year. It wasn't bad, just not particularly flavorful or memorable. The biggest disappointment for me was the fugazzeta pizza, which happens to be one of my all-time favorite styles of pizza. The onions were cut too thick and not cooked enough, and the cheese lacked that glorious overflowing generosity that fugazzeta lovers dream about. On another visit we ordered the grilled brochettes, which unfortunately came well done instead of the medium I had requested and could have used more seasoning. The meat ravioli were decent, though the pasta itself felt a bit thick and chewy. That said, the service remained excellent, both dining in and during our takeout order, which is always appreciated. I truly hope they regroup and that next year brings a stronger culinary showing. Running a restaurant is not easy, and places like this deserve a little patience. Besides, I'm not giving up. After all, they are currently my only lifeline to a proper fugazzeta in town.
