Following a visit to her orthodontist, my wife and I were looking for a lunch place in the busy area along Citrus Ave. in Crystal River. KC Wine Bistro intrigued us with its varied menu offerings. Upon walking in, we were asked to sit anywhere. We chose a table inside, not aware that there was ample outdoor seating just out back. We were presented a menu and my wife and I chose to start with traditional lumpias (Filipino egg rolls). My wife ordered the Ahi Tuna BLT and I opted for the Ribeye Rice Bowl. The lumpias were very good. Freshly deep fried, hot and crispy served with a sweet and tangy chili sauce. My wife liked her BLT and the huge spears of fried potatoes served with it. They were quite generous with the pieces of ahi as well. My dish was equally good with tender and flavorful slivers of ribeye in a flavored rice and grilled vegetables. Service was friendly and attentive. After our meal, I chatted up a lady who I learned was the proprietor and who just happened to be from the Philippines. We'll definitely be back! read more

Stopped in for lunch today with our friends during a little day trip. We got a friendly greeting and immediately had a server over helping us. My husband ordered a hamburger and said it was one of the best he's ever had. I had chicken shawarma and WOW! Our friends had a gyro shawarma and gyro platter and both just kept bragging about the quality of the food. We will be going back again during our next visit. Our first lumpia! It was delicious. My wife and I are vegetarians and enjoyed the vegetarian lumpia. They are somewhere between a spring roll and samosa. Crunchy fried deliciousness. We also had the fries which are hand cut. Hummus and pita which was good, and my son had the calamari which was also delicious. We got take out but the restaurant looked like a great hangout. Awesome food!! Very chill vibe with an exposed brick and upper level interior. Owner and bartender/waitress were very friendly and gave great recommendations. The filet and hanger steak dinner were cooked to perfection and very tasty, not to mention well priced. My husband mentioned it was the best espresso martini he had ever had (and I do concur!). We did take the kids and they were friendly with them also (they split a steak). The cheese board appetizer was very good with 4 cheeses, Thai spiced pistachios, cranberries, grapes, and crackers. Very small and very cozy. Excellent service! The bartender is the owner and he knows his wines! He had been great at recommending wines based on your taste. The seafood sections are outstanding. We came to try this spot as new residents of CR and were warmly welcomed. I chose a glass of Washington State cab for myself. When it was poured, I noticed the bottle with the name of the wine I chose said it was a blend from CA. I pointed it out to bartender and she said she never noticed that. During this time, friends of owner came in and she left it with me to drink instead of a cab. I wish I would have pushed the issue but moreover I felt ahe should have made a correction for me. Wonderful dinne! The restaurant looks like it is part of the tavern in downtown Crystal River but it's a wonderful find. Great selection of great wines at affordable price. This is my favorite place in town. They have Amazing food and a very nice selection for a glass of wine. The food is great with a wide selection of choices that are exceptionally prepared. Currently I'm hooked of the bowls! Noodles or rice with choice of protein, sautéed veggies and an addictive spicy soy sauce. Hamburgers are outstanding and another favorite is the Ahi tuna. I stopped in late morning because I thought it was a coffee shop. Well, they technically do serve coffee but it was such a fun ambience with people already eating lunch and having wine, I considered skipping the coffee and going straight to wine. The very different kalamata olive dressing on my salad paired beautifully with the ribeye schwarma I'd be having as an entree. They also were kind enough to accommodate my husband's desire to have a scallop platter, rather than in a rice or noodle bowl.
