Ok, this is an open outdoor skateboard park under I-95 in downtown Miami…read more Now it's not a vending business where you pay an entrance fee with services provided. It is merely an open park, open to the public skating community. It has some nice ramps and a very nice bowl; and wide open skating lanes for practicing whatever. As a parent, I've brought my child here multiple times. It always has skaters of all ages and experience levels. What's cool is that the skating subculture is pretty accepting of any and all willing to get on a board. There are 6 year kids skating like they have skated for decades; there are teens who are complete beginners; and their are adults of various ages that have skated for years, and now have their own kids skating. It's pretty family oriented with benches throughout and parents observing. There is good lighting for the evening hours; and by and large most of the skaters behave pretty well and are respectful and even friendly with each other. Negatives: Unfortunately, it only has portable restrooms. A permanent restroom structure would probably be better. You will smell some occasional weed, particularly in the parking lot across the street; but it's not something that most of the skaters seem to use or push openly. I have never seen any signs of open drug sales or wide usage. Certainly no drug related misbehavior. There is a small frozen lemonade stand here. A lunch truck or something similar could probably do well here.

This park is truly lovely but the placement near an industrial area and townhome is weird. Although it is close to the highway this makes it convenient to visit. Basically one can walk the park in 15 minutes but if you study the art it will take longer. For me the vibe is freedom, starting over, and liberty for immigrants in the expression of the art. I can totally relate since my parents migrated from another county and struggled here and made it here. In my opinion, the art felt like it was a tribute to all the Latin artists and what they felt. I am glad I made my way to this park because I think the idea of art in a park is brilliant as well as using dead space among the power lines is smart.

It was created as a result of the Miami-Dade County Building Better Communities Bond Program. A paved half mile walking trail winds among art and plants located under power lines. This is an area that is usually left empty although I sometimes see other towns put passive parks under them. The art in the park is by local and world renowned artists. Artists featured include Alexander Mijares, Astrid Alcayaga Art, Reynaldo Artires, Villamil ART, Rafael Consuegra Studio, Noel Leon, Antonio Fortuna Art, Aristide, Juan Abuela, Zaida del Río, Roberto Perez Crespo, Ramon Pedraza, Florencio Gelabert, and Alexis Porro-Fortún Artist. There are 11 murals, some of which relate the history of Hialeah. There are also sculptures that range from small to quite large. I never got bored. As I wandered down the path there was always a cool plant or thought provoking piece of art to discover. As I walked it was a little disconcerting to hear the power lines crackling overhead. The park also includes an amphitheater, benches and seating areas, and an elevated stage with turf seating. The amphitheater can be rented for private events like weddings. Parking is in a free lot at the entrance to the park. What a wonderful place to experience the arts and culture in the setting of a beautiful botanical garden.

It was about a 2 mile round trip between it, my office and the cow field. This Saturday, I stopped by again since it was the kickoff point for the Miami Lakes Reindeer Run 5K. Humble Brag: while not placing, I completed it on an about a 9 minute mile. It's an improvement from when I started exercising. The park has a couple of picnic shelters, a basketball court as well as body weight strength training stations. The park bathroom building was also clean. Parking is available on both sides of the street adjacent the park. For today's event, there were a couple of vendor booths, including food vendors, a podiatrist and a different gym than the one I go to. The run was through a mapped out course along Commerce Way.
