Scott, you made my dreams for the fireplace nook cabinets come true! I'd been thinking and dreaming about fireplace nook cabinets for several years. My SF house has traditional styling with crown moldings and wood floors so the modern glass media cart my husband bought to house our AV equipment just never looked right to me. I already had a good idea of what I wanted, cabinets and a floating shelf above, painted to match the existing trim (I knew the exact color from an earlier paint job). I found Scott's business on Yelp and looked at his web site. Photos of his previous projects were very helpful as I could see the cabinet styles were a good match to my vision. At our first meeting, Scott made helpful suggestions for the styling of the doors and shelf edges, then emailed me preliminary 3D drawings a couple days later. The drawers on the right side cabinet have automatic soft close slides which are oh-so-cool. I wanted sliding doors so we could open them while using our AV system, for better dissipation of heat and no need for IR repeaters. Scott installed grommets (painted to match) for running cables out of the front of the cabinets to the pair of speakers that flank the fireplace. Cutouts and grommets were installed in interior shelves for cable management. I've included some photos on this Yelp page. I am extremely pleased with the quality of workmanship and professionalism of Scott and his team for my project. I highly recommend his services. read more

Scott built my husband and me a beautiful, custom built-in media center for our house in San Francisco. He patiently worked with us on the design (we had some specific ideas about what we wanted, and requirements around how big the space for the TV could be) including going through a number of design iterations. He also came up with an ingenious way to work around an awkwardly-placed pipe. Scott and his team did the demolition work on the existing closet space extremely quickly and efficiently, and came up with clever ways to save us from having to re-do the hardwood floor around the closet. The new built-in was done perfectly and seemed like it sprung up overnight. Scott was quick, clean, and reasonably priced vs. alternatives. We have highly recommended Scott to our friends, and would work with him again in a heartbeat! read more

SJ Sallinger Designs - customer media center, replacing an existing closet - Cabinetry Near Me

Scott is an impeccable craftsman and artist. He was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Very prompt to provide a consult, quote, and then get rolling with the design, build and updates. He oversees and personally handles all details from start to finish. The end product - a built in with pull out desk - along a whole wall and along a window looks amazing and beautiful. Completely changed the look and feel of our living room and whole house. Very grateful for all Scott's genius and hard work. Simply awesome! read more

We had a very complicated project to build a media center with a fireplace in a space with an existing wet bar of a historic house. I contacted so many different contractors but nobody could come up with a plan that would work for that space. Then I found Scott who was so knowledgeable and came up with a beautiful plan for this space. He was super professional and completed the project as scheduled. The final project was so beautiful and became the highlight of our house. He was even able to accommodate our request to add Edwardian details to the fireplace mantle. We highly recommend Scott Sallinger! read more

Hiring Scott was one of the best house decisions we've made. We wanted built-in bookcases and shelving to surround the fireplace in our sparse living room, and Scott worked with us to design exactly what we needed. He was extremely patient with and responsive to our feedback, and ultimately transformed a room that we never used, into the room we now spend the most time in. The work is beautiful and was completed quickly. We'll hire him again. Thanks Scott! read more

We reached out to Scott to design and build custom built-in bookcases in our library at home. He was excellent in communications, promptness, high quality drawings, material samples, and leadtime. The results were spot on! We will recommend him to friends and anyone who is looking for custom built in cabinetry. A total pleasure from start to finish. read more

We hired Scott to build and install custom cabinets/shelves on either side of our fireplace as well as a partial tear down and rebuild of our fireplace mantel. He worked really well with us to determine the exact look that we wanted. The design process was clear and laid out in such a way that we knew exactly what to expect and acheived everything in a timely manner. The result is gorgeous and exactly what we asked for. I would highly recommend Scott and his team to anyone. read more

I subcontracted Scott to build two large bookcases for a remodel project I was working on for one of my best and long term clients. He was very prompt at returning calls and communicated clearly as a professional should. Also he did some preliminary drawings of the units in 3D so my client could see the design and make any changes before it was built. After installation my client decided that he did in fact want to make some changes to the original design. Scott went above and beyond being flexible to make my client happy, and he completed the changes for material cost only! This kept my good standing with my client, and he is now very happy with the finished product. I would never think of using anyone else for this type of project in the future. SJSallinger Designs has the approach and strong finish that I require to keep my business top tier. Thanks Scott! read more

We reached out to Scott via Thumbtack to design a fitted cabinet with shelving for an otherwise-wasted area in our lounge. After our first meeting, he quickly came back with a variety of storage-solution suggestions to suit our space. We took great pleasure in looking through his thorough sketches and working together to create the perfect piece for our home. Scott and his team delivered, fitted and finished our beautiful cabinet/shelving in one day. We couldn't believe how smooth the process went and how pleased we were with the finished piece. We'd happily recommend Scott to any of our friends and certainly look forward to working with him again in the future. read more

We highly recommend Scott and his services. We have used him on projects in two different homes. He was easy to work with, understood our needs, and offered great suggestions. The quality of his work is excellent and he delivers on time and as expected. Our first project was bench seating with storage drawers and cabinets below, an entertainment center, and an office area in a very narrow space that included file drawers, supply storage and a pull out shelf for a printer. Scott met our needs and created very attractive, high quality built ins. The white glossy finish and curved edges on the bench storage was beautiful. A photo of it is included on this Yelp page. After selling our house and moving, we used Scott again for a smaller family room project also involving an entertainment unit with book and display shelves above and a built in bench seat with storage in a window bay. One of our goals was to make it look original and match the 1920s woodwork and other elements in our home. Scott accomplished this and also enhanced existing shelves with new trim. read more

Living in an Eduardian, we have lots of rooms, all of them too small and never enough storage. Scott helped us figure out the right way to reclaim a corner of our living room, by building a custom corner media cabinet that matches the original finishes. Scott took the time to really understand our needs, then provided specific suggestions about how we could accomplish what we wanted at different price points. He also provided 3-D renderings, which helped us figure out which direction we wanted to go. He even gave us an idea for a way we could create additional storage by using the space behind our new cabinet. Awesome! Scott delivered on-time and on-budget and coordinated well with a contractor who we'd hired independently to do other work on our place at the same time. Scott's work is top-quality. He's a person you can trust in your home and trust to help you get the job done right. He's a great guy, a straight shooter and an old-school craftsman. If you're in need of custom cabinetry, I'd highly recommend him. read more

I'd put 6 stars if I could. Scott created a custom wall unit for the bedroom of my Victorian. I gave him a loose idea of the design I wanted and he embellished it adding design features that I hadn't even considered so that it would be more visually appealing and consistent with the features in the rest of the room. He matched both the design and actual install to the existing molding and doors so that once it was painted, it blended perfectly with the woodwork already there and looked like it was there all along. It was installed on the scheduled date and the quality is impeccable. My son enjoys opening and closing the drawers because they roll so smooth (no joke). I'm already working with Scott on my next project. read more

Scott made my vision come true. Absolutely stunning . I had some friends over for dinner not so long ago, and someone commented on how my aquarium was a different kind of wood than all my other furniture. It planted a seed and every time I entered my living room, I noticed all the different textures and shades of wood I had going on. I wanted something to house all of my furniture and have a cohesive look. I did a sketch one evening that held all elements of my wooden furniture: My electric fireplace, a kind of orange pine, my aquarium, a pale blond stain, my mahogony humongous China cabinet and my TV table that I picked up in a garage sale, also a different kind of wood, walnut I think. I did some googling for designers near me and came up with 3. The first two looked like Ikea on speed, very flat, modern, minimalist and then I got to Sallinger designs and I was blown away. Solid, modern, but with a Victorian old world feel. My first apartment was in the Mission district and his work reminded me of the built in I left behind. Scott arrived and looked at my sketch, took measurements, at least three times, and a few days later, drawings arrived in my email. It was such a pleasure working with Scott, he listened to my ideas and worked with my space, recommended Julio to paint my space, he did a great job, and even helped me with the color for the walls. I think the pics show the outcome. I love it. From idea to sketch to contacting Scott and having the cabinets installed was about five weeks. I cannot recommend Scott enough and of course Julio too. read more

He made our wall-mounted storage cabinets and bookshelves. His price is not cheap, but if you want custom design, with quality fit and construction that you can't get from Ikea or California Closets, he's the best thing around. read more

We asked Scott to build bookcases into the niches next to the fireplace area in our living room. He came up with a good initial design that fit well with the rest of the room and went through several rounds of revision with me until we had what we wanted. The bookcases were ready to install not too long after they were planned to be. Install was quick and clean, and Scott's assistants were all skilled and careful. You should certainly bring him in for your custom project. read more

Scott was great to work with from beginning to end. I can tell he really enjoys what he does and really cares about the quality and aesthetics of his work. He built a hutch/cabinet for us for some much needed storage. He was really easy to work with. What we really liked is that he really took the time to figure out our needs during the planning process. He also took into account the existing space, furniture, cabinets, decor etc so that new piece would blend in well. He listened to what we were looking for and gave us some great ideas for the project as well - he pays good attention to the little details that make a difference in the end. He provided us with accurate plans and 3-D renderings, and the installation went smoothly. We now have good quality storage and it looks beautiful too. read more

We decided we wanted more storage for the master bedroom of our Forest Hill home. Scott designed, built and installed a cabinet for us that meets our needs perfectly. In addition to providing the storage we wanted, the cabinet is a beautiful addition to the room. My brother, who does some carpentry and remodeling as a hobby, looked at the cabinets and tested the opening and closing mechanisms and looked at the installation detail said "That guy really knows how to make cabinets." Scott and his co-workers were neat, efficient and very easy to work with. I have very high expectations for all work done in my home and Scott exceeded them. Highly recommended. read more

OFFICE SHELVES AND CABINETS. Had new combo office/library that needed lots of shelves, cabinets, printer shelves, computer space, file cabinets. Scott was very attentive to all my needs for those and worked with me several months until we had what I need. He was always available to help and tweak our plans. He was always right on schedule for designing, building, installed the project. The final product was really beautiful and looked perfect in the new room. Even after installation, he has noted multiple times that he could come back to make any adjustments or minor changes if needed. He was extremely flexible and working with my schedule. The entire process was a great experience. I'm glad I found him and would use him again! read more

I can't say enough good things about Scott and the work he did for us. The bookshelf he built was beyond what I could have imaged. He has a great design aesthetic and really understood how to work with our space and within our budget. I like the fact that he is both a designer and a builder. Having someone who does both was really an advantage for us. Scott has a really good eye and made our space look so beautiful! He is easy to work with, very reliable and professional. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him or use his services again. read more
