Good little spot for Taiwanese breakfast and comfort food. Overall feel felt like home cooking. I was disappointed the fried bread stick wasn't crispy, chew texture felt more like on the stale side. The rice roll has extra crispies in it but too much pork floss to other ingredient ratio that it was slow to get down to the stomach. Everything else was as expected and came out hot. They close early so make sure to account for their hours before driving over.

What used to be another Six Ping bakery location has been converted into a Six Ping Taiwanese breakfast spot. Its a small, casual spot that seems to attract quite a few people. We got in on a Saturday morning before 11AM and were sat pretty quickly. People were coming in and out but seating seemed pretty consistently full. Servers were quick and friendly. We were told they were already out of the fan tuan, which was a bummer as it was the main thing I wanted. We ended up going for a variety which was the hot peanut rice milk, the hot tofu pudding, fried radish cake, fried pork chop, passion fruit green papaya salad, and the scallion pancake wrapped donut. Our breakfast had a lot of different flavors and textures and for the amount of food, was a great deal. I particulalry enjoyed the radish cake, pork chop, and papaya salad. The radish cake was simple but full of flavor, the pork chop super well fried, and the papaya salad was a nice sweet tang (I honestly saw it more of a dessert dish). I will say the scallion pancake wrapped donut was a disappointment flavorwise and really just tasted of fried dough. It also took a really long time to come out so wouldn't be a strong recommendation from me. Overall, I'm glad to see another Asian breakfast spot pop up! I think Six Ping was an excellet spot and I'm excited to come back to actually get my fan tuan!

Despite Houston's thriving Asian food scene, we have some surprising gaps in our offerings - Taiwanese-style breakfast (and more generally, Asian breakfast as a whole) is one of them. We all rejoiced when Tao Rice Roll stepped in to fill the void, and now Six Ping Teamenjoin has given us even more to choose from. If you've never tried this kind of breakfast before, I'd recommend a hot bowl of soy milk (豆漿) accompanied by a comically large fried dough stick (油条); you'll come to appreciate the contrast between the rich, creamy taste of fresh soy and crispy bites of donut-like pastry. Bring a group of friends and you'll be able to try more dishes (the carbs are quite filling), such as the savory sticky rice roll (饭团) stuffed to the brim with pork floss, shattering crisps, and pickled veggies; the egg pancake, pleasantly springy and filled with whatever toppings you wish for; or the pan fried dumplings, served with open ends and a beautifully lacy "skirt". Service is bilingual (English/Mandarin) and very friendly; pay at the counter when you're done eating. We've been lucky that there's always been a table open when we go on the weekends, but as more people find out about this place it'll almost certainly become more packed. For now, I'm content to go more often while the going's good - I'm interested in trying their non-breakfast menu items, and the mapo tofu dry noodles look particularly intriguing. Hope to see you there soon!

I finally have time to catch Six Ping Teamenjoin 田麵匠 in action. First time was a miss because of the full house. Second time was a miss because it closes on Wednesday. Three times a charm. I came Friday morning before lunchtime rush. The menu kept changing every time I'm here because they just opened 3 weeks ago and they are still trying things out. According to the owner, they will feature traditional Taiwanese lunch items. I can't wait. Today, I brought my big appetite. There are many unique items that have not tried in a while. Like Brown Sugar Bun 黒糖饅頭... OMG I haven't had it since I left Taiwan. I was contemplating on 燒餅油條 but it's common in Chinatown. So, I chose Scallion Pancake 蔥油餅, which came to my surprise. That is more authentic than other restaurants in Houston Chinatown. When I came here the first time, my Yelper friend Victoria recommended the soybean milk 甜豆漿. But that's too common. I really wanted to try the Tofu Pudding 豆花. But it only comes in cold version. So, I chose Salted Tofu Pudding 鹹豆花. I regretted because I couldn't taste the tofu. I was still not satisfied. I went to the counter to order Peanut Rice Milk (hot) 熱米漿 in a takeout cup because I know I couldn't finish it. Man, I couldn't believe I finished everything I ordered today. Can you imagine how fat I would be. Hahaha. I'll be back when other lunch menu items are launched. Ok, parking lot is shared with other restaurants at Metropole Center. Weekend lunchtime is guaranteed to be busy. The interior space has 9 tables and could fit up to 24 people. Not much standing room if you order takeout. You definitely need to plan ahead on weekends.

You know what they say about a quintessential Taiwanese breakfast - definitely the most important meal of the day. This spot was open nice and early and had all the classics, including soy milk and tofu pudding. The menu otherwise is quite extensive for other breakfast treats that I'll definitely be back to try. The service was super quick and the place was not super packed first thing in the morning. Overall, super cute casual brekkie spot!

Do not miss this awesome Taiwanese rice ball! They can make it vegetarian/vegan as well! Service is superb, they have picture menu but just ask the staff about their specialty. Located in the same plaza as Jusgo supermarket on bellaire street. Easy parking, and coszy place but big enough to accommodate a big group of you want to have a team lunch!

Finally a good taiwanese breakfast place has come back to Houston! We came in on a weekday morning for brunch and was already semi-full. I ordered the hot soybean milk, which comes in a bowl, and cold sweet soybean milk (to-go cup). The hot one comes unsweetened, so you'll need to add sugar. I ordered Dan Bing (egg pancake) and yo tiaw (fried dough stick) to pair with the soybean milk and it was delicious!!! My wife ordered the salty soybean milk, which comes in a bowl. She loved it after adding more hot oil and pickled green mustard. She did not like the savory rice roll (fan twan) and thought it was too salty and too large and would break apart too easily. She also liked the peanut rice milk. The 2 waiters were very friendly and responsive. Overall great experience and look forward to coming back soon.

This is a place I'll come back to over and over because it really stunned me how tasty and filling everything was! We tried a bunch of things from the menu, and our server was so sweet and funny so we ordered almost everything she recommended. I loved the mixed savory, sweet, sour, umami flavors of the items and provided a very fulsome breakfast. I absolutely loved my rice roll, and was obsessed with my peanut soup. The portions were so large we had to pack a lot for later, but I absolutely love a classic taiwanese breakfast.

    Braised pork rice

Friendly Staff. Their soy milk had full soy flavor. Lover their BOGO deal during weekdays. We op-ed for the tea egg with the braised pork rice - hearty and serious meal for breakfast! Sticky rice roll was generously stuffed, reminded me of my time in Taipei growing up. Will definitely have to come back since they have such a wide variety of classic Hong Kong cafe and old time Taiwan favorites.

A real taste of Taiwan in Houston! This place just opened recently, so they're still ironing out a few kinks here and there -- but the food is already pretty good. You can tell everything's made with care. Their freshly ground soy milk is amazing -- super fragrant, rich, and creamy. The savory soy milk (鹹豆漿) is also spot-on -- nicely balanced and authentic. What really stood out to me was the shaobing youtiao (燒餅油條) -- hands down the best I've had in Houston! (I won't compare to L.A., but this one is definitely top-notch for Texas ). The egg crepes (蛋餅) are fresh and well made too. Next time I'm coming back to try their rice rolls (飯糰). They're still in their soft opening phase, so some dishes might not be perfectly consistent yet, but I can already tell it's only going to get better from here. Looking forward to my next visit!

Just like Taiwan! Got 油條,蛋餅,豆漿,小籠包,茶葉蛋。friendly affordable and good service. Looks like the old bakery rebranded.

Its a very casual, cafeteria-esque restaurant with a pretty extensive menu. The owner was really nice but I think assumed I could speak Mandarin/Taiwanese but sadly I'm just a Canto boy. Anyways, we ordered with him and he gave us a number and explained the process in Taiwanese but we figured it out. Grab the items you need, get water if you want, sit at an open table and wait. I ended up trying the oyster pancake and the leek, pork intestine, and blood claypot. Both were great and really hit the spot for me (pro tip, their chili oil is great and adds another great layer of flavor). The oyster pancake had quite a bit of oysters and they were nice and plump. For those willing to try offal meats, the pork intestine and pork blood was amazing, flavors exactly what I wanted and cooked very well, nothing was chewy or over/undercooked. Prices and portions were also great and I was able to have my meal for 3 different days, and the third day I just overate. Overall, I'm glad to have found this spot and recommend it for anyone wanting Taiwanese food or to try something different. They have a lot of options and a really great deal for the more buffet/cafeteria style plates. Def can't wait to come back and get some more food!

The portion size has gotten a bit smaller (inflation sucks), but the quality remains solid. I especially like the few slices of sausage and some pickled mustard greens, which help balance out the richness of the braised pork belly. If you dine in, they offer unsweetened black tea that's actually quite tasty. It's a no-frills spot--simple, quick, and dependable whether you're grabbing food to go or eating there. They also sell items like mung bean cake, which I love, and I usually take a couple home. They got a few tables to dine in and the staff are friendly.

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

Very hearty and not too spicy. The broth is rich with a refreshing relish tang. My BF and I shared a bowl because there was no way I would've finished it on my own with everything else we ordered. Chicken Dumplings in Beef Soup - Seems to use the same broth as the Beef Noodle Soup. Not my personal favorite because the dumpling wrapper is a bit too thick, but it's a small miss considering how fond I already am of this place. Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings - How is this place making money? These things are massive and deliciously oily. There's a clean Maillard effect on the bottom that adds so much flavor. They also have an interesting fold--I've never seen dumplings shaped quite like this before. The pork flavor comes through strongly with the classic scallion combo. Steamed Bao Bun - Yaass, reliving my Chinese drama dreams. These weren't as sweet as the commercial ones, which I personally prefer. Still, I reckon this is how they tasted in those shows, so I'm stoked for the experience. Now, will I say this is the absolute best dumpling place in Houston? No--but there is something undeniably attractive about this place, and it is fundamentally delicious. It embodies one of the best versions of a classic mom-and-pop restaurant, serving homemade food that isn't perfect but reflects craftsmanship and care beyond the appeal of modern restaurants. My dumplings weren't wrapped with perfect precision, nor were they the pinnacle of healthy eating. They were just blatantly delicious--like when your mom cooks your favorite meal on a weekend night. That's why I would come back. This place represents the most authentic form of home and freedom in food.
