    R9. East Roll
    Hey A.

This roll was soo yummy and very pretty!! I also got a spicy salmon pokebowl and it was incredible!! The plating was so beautiful and i honestly was so excited to eat i forgot to take a picture. Very good quality food especially for the price, i definitely recommend the pokebowl!

    Week long lunch/dinner specials

Love that their lunch specials include weekends. The food is the best Chinese we've had in this area thus far, but it's close to home and the price and portions are good, so it's likely we won't even bother trying other places.

Not sure what this is but I ordered chow mein... Any guesses?

I am temporarily without a car and needed something to deliver relatively quickly. They definitely delivered quickly so I guess that's a reason for an extra star. Of course, I can't say I was expecting anything spectacular from here but everything was below even those low expectations. The spicy salmon/tuna rolls were mostly composed of bread crumbs. I also ordered a small chow mein but got something else which I am still not sure what it is (see photo - if you know what this is, please let me know). Overall, I feel like "Meh" is the best word to describe it. If you really have no other choice, then I'm sure you can sometimes get lucky and get something decent here. Otherwise, don't waste your money.

Riverside roll $12.95 (spicy salmon with crunchy lobster salad and seaweed salad, tobiko, with eel and spicy mayo sauces)

Small Chinese/Japanese joint in a small plaza. I came here about 5-6 years ago and wanted to revisit it, as I remember it having the best spicy salmon I've ever come across in my life. Back then, it had the typical Chinese take-out storefront, with a Japanese bar/seating area in a separate room. Looks like they had to downsize, as what the seating area used to be is now a Latin restaurant. Upon walking in, it is now your standard Chinese take-out store, with a very tiny, two seat bar on the left for the sushi. There are about two more seats by the window, and another small table by the wall. Unfortunately, it's definitely not a place you can sit with a group of friends anymore. I ordered the Riverside special roll (spicy salmon with crunchy lobster salad and seaweed salad, tobiko with eel and spicy mayo sauce) and the Fair Lawn special roll (spicy tuna crunch wrapped around shrimp tempura and avocado with eel and spicy mayo sauce). Both two very delicious rolls, and the Fairlawn roll was just as I remember it years ago. Another thing I distinctly remember about this place was how they never overloaded on rice. Still true to this day! Ingredients are always fresh. Their special rolls come in counts of 6 pieces, or at least the two I ordered did. They served the two rolls on two plates. The first roll came on a nice, rectangle porcelain plate. The second, which came out about 5-10 minutes later, came out on a circle styrofoam plate. It was slightly odd. I don't see why they just couldn't plate it together on a nice plate? I did not show signs of being in a rush, so it's not like they were trying to serve as fast as they could. Overall a good sushi place to check out if you're in the area, but it's probably better if you take it to go/get it delivered if you're with people.

ONE: Chinese food TWO: plus an excellent Sushi bar THREE: Bento box with negamaki/gyoza/shumai was great FOUR: Extensive & creative sushi list FIVE: Great online website & menu SIX: Avocado & peanut roll: my favorite. As rare as a unicorn on a sushi menu. HAPPINESS: Is patronizing a small business because you love the food and the owners. The first time we tried Six Happiness, I was not thrilled with the Chinese, just thought it was ok. But my husband could not stop commenting how wonderful and amicable the owner was when he picked up our take out. So we decided to try the sushi and give this business another shot based on great service. This visit, as my husband waited for our sushi, Gina, the owner told him to please take a soda from the case (on the house) so he would have a cold drink while he waited for his order on this sweltering hot July day. Very nice sushi with a giant side of heart-warming attitude.

I forgot to take photos because by the time we got the food, I was solely focused on getting something to eat. The food is pretty average here. We ordered a large chicken and broccoli with, wonton egg drop soup, moo shu pork, and a brown rice. The chicken and broccoli was the only thing I personally liked. Flavor wise, it's completely typically for Chinese takeout. My only issue with it was that they were a little conservative with the amount of chicken in it. It's great though, for people who really love their broccoli. The wonton egg drop soup broth was a bit lacking in flavor. The wontons had some decent taste to them, but the wrapping was light, personally I prefer wontons with thicker wrapping. It wasn't bad, but not great either. And I'm not sure if it's particularly bad, or good, but it also wasn't completely packed with wontons, so there was more broth than I'm used to having in a container of wonton soup. The moo shu pork was a bit salty for my liking, and the hoisin sauce that came with it was not as sweet as the brand I'm familiar with. The pancakes that came with the dish were overly wrapped up in saran wrap, it took my a couple minutes to actually get them out. The other issue with them is that they were extremely delicate. Just handling them I felt like they were going to fall apart. They were also square, instead of circular, which is unusual, but not a big deal. I don't normally feel the need to mention rice, but here the white rice was good (it's hard to mess up white rice, right?). But the brown rice was so bad, we had to throw it out. The prices were pretty average for a Chinese takeout place, although I think they charged extra for the brown rice, which some places do, some don't. I'd give this place another try, but ordering different dishes.

Located in the busy Broadway District in Fair Lawn, Great Wall was anything but great-looking. Everything about it screamed "dirty". Unfortunately, I ordered online my very 1st time here, so I had no idea what it looked like. I had an inkling based on Yelp reviews, but no idea really. The menu here is as typical as it gets for these type of takeout restaurants. We ended up ordering a small Beef with Mixed Vegetables, 2 orders of the Fried Dumplings and 1 large Hot & Sour Soup. First, the Beef with Mixed Vegetables was OK. The beef was cooked through, but the corns inside had a little bit of a funky taste. Surprised? Not really. The highlight for me from here, if you can call it that, were definitely the Fried Dumplings and Hot & Sour Soup. Honestly, they were some of the better Fried Dumplings I had ever tried from an Americanized Chinese establishment. Also, the Hot & Sour Soup was decent and had some actual sour-ness + heat to it. Great Wall is what it is. It's hard to get by it's appearance and you might think you're counting your blessings if you survive eating from here, but the Fried Dumplings and Hot & Sour Soup are ACTUALLY good from here!

It is similar to Sichuan/Szechuan cuisine in ways, in that there is an emphasis on spicy foods, although the spice profiles differ. It is in the space formerly occupied by a different Chinese restaurant called Joyce (RIP - I loved and miss their short-lived foray into seafood boils). Although there are many great authentic (meaning regionally specialized) Chinese restaurants in Bergen County and northern NJ, including several Sichuan places, this is the only Hunan one I'm aware of (without venturing further south into NJ), and is certainly one of the nicest Chinese restaurants atmosphere-wise, with an elegant dining room. If you want to try the interesting and authentic dishes, of which there are plenty, order from the sections of the menu labeled with "Hunan" or "Home Style." The soups and cold appetizers are very traditional too. The house speciality is the Hunan steamed fish head with pickled chili - the platter is quite impressive and takes 20-30 min to prepare. You can add tofu (recommended) or noodles for an additional $5. We ordered this but since I'm not a fish head fan (and like my fish very simply dressed) - I think it was a type of carp - the appreciation for it was lost on me. It's topped with a heap of red chilis but is actually not as spicy as it looks. Personally I prefer the fish fillet dishes such as the fish with ginger, which has very tender filet slices. I loved the soup dumplings (large and soupy), shrimp with salted egg yolk (or any salted egg yolk dishes, which aren't easy to find), and enjoyed the tender sautéed beef dishes like beef with spring onion or the spicy green pepper with steak, with crunchy peppers that give a piquant refreshing kick. They have whole Peking duck (Beijing roast duck)! The menu only shows pricing for the whole duck but we asked for half and they obliged. To be honest it's not the best Peking duck I've had but the balance of crispy skin (that's yet not too fatty) to generously shaved lean duck meat was unimpeachable. And they use high-quality crepes that are superbly thin but do not tear. The lo mein is also pretty good - it's slightly smoky and is better than common. Parking tip: there are only a few spots in front but there is a parking lot in the back of the building with plenty of spaces. There are lots of exciting and exotic menu offerings and still many we'd like to try, so we'll be back repeatedly.
