I have been going to Site for Sore Eye's for YEARS! Their selection of frames is great. The service is great as well. I spoke with the new owners which one of them has been an employee for years. The two gentlemen who are owners where great with letting me know the best decisions for the different frames I chose. And during covid they took all safety precautions and I saw them disinfect and wipe down all the instruments every single time I used them. I look forward to getting my new frames in a couple weeks! I've only been here once, but had a really pleasant experience. After being told by another eyeglass store that they couldn't adjust my crooked glasses without being a patient, I was so happy to hear that Site for Sore Eyes could do it for me for free. I mean, it really only takes a few seconds to adjust a crooked pair. I waited about 10 minutes while they helped someone else and the woman who did end up helping me was incredibly friendly and personable. I would definitely recommend this location. Both my husband and I had eye exams here. Chose it coz it's on my way back home from work. It was very fast. I've been in other eye exams and usually the optometrists would have me walk around and look outside to test the prescription. This one didn't. I picked up my glasses today and was greeted by an unenthusiastic and unwelcoming employee who never greeted me or left his seat. I had to tell him I was there to pick up my glasses. He handed them to me and told me to let him know if they needed to be tightened, etc. Maybe I am just old school and the other chair at the table is just for display but used to be that they sat down with you to make sure Your frames fit - this is the first time I've experienced the DIY concept in this venue. Needed new contacts/glasses for far too long and had in my mind that this was a good place. The doctor was nice and she seemed to make an accurate assessment (I was delighted to see any better), but realized that it was not an accurate one after a few days. Went back and saw a locum tenens, who did a better job. Then I was jollied along into listening to a contact lense supplier. I usually avoid this, but the manager (?) Made a good case with a big rebate so I agreed. Spent next month fighting company for said rebate. Never did get it. Both times I was in the store, I was the only one in it. I went in to get some advice about whether to repair my glasses out to purchase new ones. I was warmly greeted by the store manager named Michael. He took my existing glasses and fix them for me for no charge or expectation to sale me anything. While I was there I took the opportunity to take a look at some of the newer ones and he helped me find a new set but I ended up purchasing that looks awesome on my face. dont go here. they spent more time trying to sell me a second set of glasses than making sure the ones I purchased were properly aligned. As a result, I have an expensive pair of multifocal glasses that I dont use because I can't see clearly at a distance. They also didn't bother to explain that the fact that my vision had changed very little since my last exam meant that the new prescription would not be much of an improvement over my current glasses. The optometrist told me that I had cataracts (which I later confirmed with an opthomologist) but not that that could be the source of my deteriorated vision, and that new lenses would not make much of a difference. Especially not new lenses that they didnt bother to fit well. I will not return. read more

Shortest eye exam ever (15min or less). Still couldn't see well with the new prescription. They dont measure PD unless you buy glasses from them. Employee got a call from another patient to reschedule and lied saying the store was super full when in fact it was empty. Employee judged me that I was going to buy from online pages instead of buying from them. Horrible service. WILL NOT RETURN. read more

AMAZING customer service! This is my second time coming here for an eye exam and Dr. Dolezel took great care of me. She swiftly found the right prescription for me and happily answered any questions I had. I was considering getting new glasses while I was there and a stellar employee named Gloria helped me find the perfect ones! She was so patient and sweet and literally invested an hour helping me find the perfect pair. She's got a good eye- the glasses I went with were ones that she picked for me! I usually find shopping for glasses stressful because I can be VERY indecisive but Gloria made the experience exciting and fun. I cannot say enough how grateful I am that I came across "Site For Sore Eyes" in my search for a new eye doctor upon moving to Berkeley from the east coast! To level set you all, I was so attached to my eye doctor in Boston that I flew back and forth to see him while I was living in NYC...so it is heavily weighted when I say, I am over-the-top satisfied with my services at Site For Sore Eyes! The staff, in particular Kenisha and Tino, are extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about the services they offer, insurance policies and coverage, and what styles compliment your face, complexion, and overall style. Tino sat me down, quickly allowed me to start on my paperwork, and out of his kindness, went through EVERY single detail and option of insurance coverage in my policy while I was waiting for my appointment to start, so I could have some time to weigh my options. I wrote everything down and had never before felt so knowledgeable about whether or not I was getting the most bang for my buck with insurance. Not to mention it was fun chatting and time passed so quickly. Dr. D was simply amazing. I (literally) couldn't stop telling her how sweet and pleasant she was. I hate to say it to my Boston eye doctor, but she truly is the perfect "replacement." She is nonjudgmental, patient, understanding, and provided truly honest advice. She is so welcoming and makes me feel as though I can always call her or stop on in with any questions or concerns (or just to say hi!). Kenisha really knows her stuff in regards to styling! She put me in frames I would NEVER pick up. I highly recommend taking her advice - she is a wealth of knowledge. Not to mention, funny and enjoyable to talk to! I saw Dr. D for a contact lens fitting. During the exam I couldn't read the chart with my right eye wearing my newest prescription. She asked minimal questions, checked my exam results, and proceeded to write out a new prescription for contacts. she failed to seem alarmed when I was alarmed and claimed that had not happened before. She asked if I was seeing an opthamologist, but made no effort to want to contact them about the problem or suggest that I contact the immediately. She didn't seem concerned a bit! Turns out I had a macular pucker and needed surgery to correct it. I will never trust her as an optometrist again or refer anyone to her. I never returned to fill my prescription, which was bad anyway. read more

I am just shocked at the poor service I received at this store. I had been getting my glasses there for years, and the new management is just awful! I went in to replace my lenses, and someone named Paul helped me. He adjusted my frames and completely scratched the lenses in front of me. When I pointed it out, he denied it and started yelling at me. I asked to speak with the manager, and he said HE was the manager. I then asked to speak with the owner, and was given the name of Felix Karanja. Felix never returned any of my phone calls. The service I received here was just completely awful, and I wound up having to go to another store to get those lenses replaced. I will be following up with a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. People need to know what kind of awful service this place provides. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE. I needed glasses for reading. Decided on rimless, They had very few options as the selection was minimal. You have to pay extra for the rimless, and it took three weeks (!) although I was told it would take up to 5 business days. Not even an apology. Upon picking the glasses, I had to ask for a case, and the glasses didn't come with a cleaning cloth. I remember that store as providing professional service, but perhaps something has changed. I think their strong suit is that they have a technician at hand and they also provide eye exams, but if you just need frames and lenses, chose this location if you don't mind waiting. read more

My 3 times on the phone with the man over the past 2 months who picked up was so unpleasant that I decided to cancel my new eye exam appt with them. I didn't feel welcome at all. Luckily, I found another place closer to me that takes my vision insurance. This "customer service" man has a serious attitude, which made me have attitude back. He's not a good listener and made me repeat myself a few times. He started it without even realizing it and set the tone for the rest of the calls. Pretty unprofessional with his under the remark jabs, snide laughs not taking me seriously, annoyance in answering pretty standard questions, impatience cutting me off, letting it be known they are busy and have more important things to be doing, oh and hanging up on me when I called politely to cancel and ask for a copy of my files emailed back to me. I gave 2 stars because I feel bad for your optometrist, who may actually be decent, but I'll never know. Too bad you lost a potential new customer. read more

Tino was so helpful, knowledgeable, able to answer all my questions, and stayed late after the store closed to help me call my insurance company to make sure I knew all my options for paying for prescription sunglasses. I have been coming to Site for Sore Eyes for 4 years now. Every time I come in I always feel very well taken care of. Out of all my visits though, Kenisha has been the best optician I have ever had. She chose the perfect pair of glasses for me on the very first pair she had me try on. I definitely suggest having her recommend glasses, especially if you're looking for something styling and making you feel sexy and exciting. They truly take care of their patients and provide reasonable prices. There is also so much more variety of glasses to choose from as this facility got much larger which makes it a much more exciting experience. The doctor's are very friendly too, and she provided me with the option to have my contacts changed if I don't like them, or if I want to have my contact prescription re-adjusted I have 3 months to ask for new types of contacts or whatever changes needed. If you go there AFTER reading this review and they get you, I'm saying it now that "I told you so". These sales people will flat out LIE to you about what you are purchasing. I needed some contacts for a diving trip so quantity was a concern I had as to what was the minimum amount of lenses I could purchase. The Dr. who did the exam as well as the lady that that did the transaction REPEATEDLY told me... "a 30 day supply". Well, I get my lenses and its a 15 day supply, 30 lenses!! They would not make it right, they kept telling me how sorry they were including the manager/owner who goes by the name of "Felix". The staff AS WELL AS THE OWNER at this place are NOT HONEST! The reviews are bad enough but to resort to out and out LYING to make a sale?! Please believe the reviews, don't do business with these people. They are independently owned so there's no one for Felix to answer to and he is apparently satisfied with you only going to spend money there once.
