Even though I wasn't an existing customer, Amy took the time to carefully examine two pairs of sunglasses that I thought might need major repairs. One had a stubborn Maui Jim nose pad issue that I had been unable to solve myself, and the other had a bent hinge that caused the temple to come off. She was able to fix both, and everything is back in perfect working order. Amy was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and generous with her time. Michaela was also very friendly and welcoming, which made for an even better experience. It's rare to come across service that is this thoughtful and customer-focused. I had a good first experience here, and my new distance and reading glasses seem just right. I had neglected an eye exam for too long, and Doctor Lam said that my left eye has changed a lot (much worse astigmatism), and he asked if I had been having headaches (which I had). I've now been wearing both pairs of glasses for over two weeks, and it's clear that they have fixed the eye strain that I was having. I see that some reviewers have complained about long waits to see the doctor, and in fact I didn't see the email and text messages that they sent me nearly an hour before my appointment saying that the doctor was running behind, suggesting that I come a half hour later. But I would prefer that the doctor spend however much time turns out to be needed for each client, rather than rush people out the door to stay on time. And it was not a problem because the technicians in the front area worked with me in the meantime on lens and frame choices. The technician Chris was especially helpful at answering my many questions. It took 13 days after the exam and my purchase for both sets of new frames and lenses to arrive, but they were certainly worth the wait. read more

I decided to write a review after the doctor couldn't keep our appointment for the second time. The first time I made back to back appointments for my two kids. After my daughter was done, they decided to take another customer ahead of my son who had an appointment and was waiting the entire time. We waited an additional 20 minutes and left. One year later, we made the mistake of giving this place a second chance and made a new appointment. This time they reached out to us at the last minute to say the doctor is running late. Unfortunately, we already arrived when we received the message. Parking and traffic in Berkeley suck. It was a huge waste of our time. read more

Doctor Lam is an old school eye doctor, and he took the time to give me a thorough and thoughtful exam. He made recommendations and was friendly and helpful! Booked an appointment for 1230pm, and left work to come get an eye exam during my lunch break. Arrived on time, and was told the doctor was a little behind but would see me soon. After half an hour, I checked in, and they told me just a little longer. After forty five minutes, same story. It wasn't until 130PM until the doctor finally saw me. read more

I went to For Eyes if they can fix my glasses, the lens popped out of the frame, Amy not only put the lens back, but also fixed the nose pieces which was broken, and no charge. Very friendly. I was truly impressed. read more

This could possibly be the worst small business experience I've had. Looking through the reviews I am not alone. The most serious is getting eye exams, and prescriptions that are incorrect. This is very serious, and again I am not alone. There are issues with VSP and how they misrepresent it--they are out of network. There are other others who have this problem. There's also difficulty in customer service and consistency. This business needs to take a cold hard look at what they are doing to their customers and address it. I want to see small businesses successful but clearly they have some problems. They are very defensive and they gaslight. They don't even understand their own patterns. They need help. I hope they get it. These are our eyes. This is a no joke situation. read more

cheap glasses but their appointment system is a disaster. 4:30 appt. they call me at 3 to verify/ i show up at 420. they say they'll check me in but everyone is very busy and no one helps me until 430. then 2 people went in ahead of me. 5pm and im still waiting and another person comes in saying they have a 5pm appt but the desk says 530... they're fine if you have a Rx already but i wouldnt get an exam here. read more

Don't go here if you want your time respected they don't care about your time appointments they don't respect that your late they wont help you but if you get there on time for your appointment they can have you waiting a whole hour an 1/2 and they wont do anything but apologize its insane !!! read more

For Eyes is the worst possible business. Please do not bother with them. My son's glass were sent to the lab more than a month ago. All I got was a fuzzy apology from staff and useless excuses. I still have not received the glasses to date. Worst possible business and I will pursue a case against them. read more

I had an appointment at 3:30 I got there at 3, but was not seen until 4:45... they told me when I got there he's running late by 15 mins. If it was going to be over an hour I could've gone home or utilized my time. I was very upset they said due to weather the doctor is running late.. I didn't really understand because it was only raining outside and I don't think that calls for your schedule to be an hour delayed. All in all I wish they just communicated their schedule to me... I walked in looking for an oversized case for my sunglasses. A young woman came right to help me. While other shops told me they didn't have oversized cases and generally didnt seem eager to help, she certainly was. Tried a few cases then found the right one. And didnt charge me a cent for it. Chris helped us negotiate the glasses and lenses and films, etc. He was really smart and patient and we appreciated him. But despite somebody telling us on the phone that we could probably get a really good deal or better with them even though they were not in network with our eyeglass benefit, the price ended up being REALLY expensive for the multiple glasses ordered. Would never recommend them in this situation if you have an eyeglass benefits with some company and it is out of network with FOR EYES until you verify the bottom line beforehand for any given frame and lens. We feel taken advantage of. We were pressed for time and went along with the deal, but it was a really bad deal compared to working with Opticians who were in network. On the other hand, if you want to go in and get lenses for frames that you already have they are a wonderful bargain. read more

My mom and I went in because we had frames that needed to be adjusted. We were assisted immediately by Chris and given great customer service! He took the time and made the effort to mak sure that our frames fit perfectly to our liking. He even replaced the nosepads on one of our frames and didn't charge us for any of the adjustments. We look forward to making For Eyes our primary provider for frames and eye exams because we're so convinced by their assistance and patience. Also noticed that they have a wide selection of frames with good sales going on and are located conveniently in Shattuck with many restaurants nearby. I came here for a second time recently and I wasn't in his chair for more than 15 minutes he rushed my whole appointment and told me I had perfect eyes which is false I've been wearing glasses my WHOLE entire life. Chris adjusted my glasses for free and did a great job. My glasses frame was pinching the sides of my head and leaving red marks. I was a bit worried since Flexon nose bridges are notoriously easy to break if they're bent outward. Chris widened the frame then brought it in behind the ear so that it does not slip, the whole process took about 5 minutes and there was no damage. read more

Does not accept VSP insurance even though their website says it does. Really frustrating when you make time out of your day and it turns out that you need to go to a different doc in order to avoid getting slapped with out of network charges.
