The food here was very good and so was the device. I won't attempt to describe the foods and names as I not that familiar with India cuisine. The restaurant is wide open and has comfortable seating. It was a light evening on dinners so we had very good service and the restaurant was not loud. We with the sampler platter. There were three items on the dish that gives you a nice variety of dishes. Don't be afraid to try the green and brown sauces. They are mild and accent the food nicely. I had the Madras with lamb. The lamb was tender and moist. I found it to be very tasty. The coconut based sauce was very smooth and creamy without being too rich. The rice is perfectly cooked. Please give this place a try. The Indian food is excellent. Just a note to the owner. We enjoyed our experience a lot. We almost left because your staff didn't show up until 4:59p for a 5p opening. You really should do better in this area. read more

I have eaten Northern Indian and Southern Indian but this most be from the border. I was visiting my little sister at Ball State and we both love Indian food. We walked in around 530pm on Friday with no wait. We were sat and greeted right away, great service and customer service. The quality was not what I was expecting. Very disappointed. She ordered a mango lassi and enjoyed it. Then we ordered samosas as an appetizer and they came out doughy not crispy on the outside. I ordered vegetable korma (medium spice level)because navratan is my favorite so that was the closest option. The flavor was lacking, missing something. I ordered the lamb biryani and it had fried onions on top of it. My little sister ordered the butter chicken and enjoyed it. The batter that the Paneer was fried in was bland and had no spices in it. The Chana Masala was watered down. The ambiance was lackluster, so was the food. This establishment has a lot of groundwork to do on the basics of Indian cooking before they can represent Indian food. This was my first time ever trying Indian food - and it did not disappoint. The butter chicken, white rice, and garlic naan combo was amazing and so flavorful! We go ours to go, but didn't realize how nice and peaceful the inside of the restaurant was. Next time we will definitely eat inside. Where do I begin with this fantastic restaurant. Sitara is by all means a hidden little spot in Muncie. Placed next to the Payless grocery store here in Muncie. If you aren't careful you may just miss it. But please put on your keen eye so you don't overlook this fantastic restaurant. Let's start with the ambiance. Bright covers on the ceiling, and tasteful decor really invites you in. It's absolutely beautiful in every way. It feels like it's thematically aligned with the menu it offers, which brings me to my next area of focus.. the food! Described on a wooden/paper sheet, is Indian accurate food and cuisine. I can't remember the name of the dish, but me and my friends got some chicken glazed in a spicy sauce that was to die for. It was paired with some fantastic rice, and this heavenly bred called "naan". They glazed the naan with rich delicious butter and honestly it was amazing. The drinks were ice cold and crisper than ice from Antarctica. I was both impressed and amazed, they even somehow made the water taste as good as the soda! . Moving on to the final and probably most important area of this review.. The Service! What can I say, the service is the best service in Muncie. With the constant Refills on our drinks, to them asking at several points if we were enjoying our food. It felt like they tried and fully cared about our experience. That may sound standard but what I'm about to say next will blow you away. As we were eating mid-meal, the host of the restaurant physically came over and tidied the table up. It made us feel so special, almost like we royalty or dare I say... The President! No place I've EVER been to, has done this. It made our evening in every way! We enjoyed our meal and paid up front when we were done. The host asked if we were getting dessert but honestly we were stuffed. So what's my rating for Sitara Indian Restaurant. Went for lunch: after waiting for almost 35mins to be seated, they made us wait for another 40mins to get the thali. All they serve is veg or non veg thali and they are not even prepared to get the food immediately. The food was very cold as well. We were not sure if they took time to clean the plates and bowls!! I would rather go for a buffet place where u will wait to be seated but atleast the food is ready for us to eat. This was horrible experience they kept saying that the thali will come in 5mins but never got it. Even the reserving was horrible due to rush and again the food was cold in those buckets! 16$ for cold food and not many items for veg.. a big no! read more

We love Sitaria. It's a great atmosphere. The owner runs the business with a cleanliness and professionalism like none other. The music, colors and design make for a great environment. Any questions we have on the menu are always answered truthfully and with good suggestions. So many options for meat eaters, vegetarians, or allergy accommodations. I always get something different. I got the Chicken Saag in medium and it was excellent. My husband got the chicken Korma, in mild and it was also excellent. We have never experienced poor service or food. It's a treat place for us to go without kids (there is not a kids menu if you're looking for nuggets and fries you won't find it). I've been told that outside of India itself Sitara has a great menu, selection, and flavors as everything is made by the family and uses their own family recipes. Try it out if you're in town! The food here is absolutely wonderful. I have frequented this restaurant numerous times and each time I return it's because I crave the depth of flavor each dish has to offer. The spices and seasonings make each dish unique and delicious compared to other local restaurants. Every side or sauce is the perfect compliment to the main course. As someone new to Indian food I can say Sitara has blown away any expectations or worries I may have had. I would highly recommend the chicken tikka masala, it's creamy and pact with spices and flavors. The chicken in super tender and worth a try. For an appetizers or a side you have to get the vegetable samosas. They are filled with potatoes and vegetables that warm the heart while also providing an amazing crispy exterior texture. Another must order is the bread basket which offers a variety of Naan. These diverse flat breads may quench the heat of a spicy meal or provide more complex flavors when dipped into any sauce. The fruit mango lassi is another fantastic choice to drink for you especially if you order your food spicy. In general I highly recommend eating here. The curry was watery and actually had zero curry flavor or honestly flavor period, it was basically just water tomatoes and onion with meat. The Chana Saag was also incredibly thin and actually tasted so bad that it was thrown in the trash. It tasted and looked like a can of chickpeas mixed with spinach water and no other seasonings or flavor. If I lived closer I would have gone back in to ask for a refund. read more

Five stars for the food, but only one star for the service. An older gentleman seated us right away, which was great. Then a young man (possibly the grandson) took our drink order. I do Traditional Chinese Medicine, which encourages people to only eat and drink warm or hot foods and beverages, so I asked for hot water. My husband asked for a Coke. The grandson returned with cold water. I replied that I didn't want cold water, but rather, hot water. He returned with hot water. I was disappointed that it was not filtered and tasted like chlorine. He did not bring my husband's Coke. We asked the grandson for the Coke again, but he didn't bring it. Finally, we asked another man who worked there and he brought the Coke. Hubby ordered chicken tikka and I was interested in the tandoori chicken plate that came with raita and steamed vegetables. I asked what kind of vegetables it comes with. The grandson replied, "I think it's just onions and bell peppers, but I'm not sure." We are on the third week of a road trip and I've already had enough onions and bell peppers to last me until the end of the year! When I asked him to find out, he returned with great news: it comes with cauliflower, carrots, green beans, and squash - all the things I would normally make at home, but are so hard to find in restaurants. So I ordered that dish and specified that I wanted the raita warmed up. Both dishes arrived and they were stunning to look at. (See photo.) The raita was warm, as requested. Hubby also had rice and naan. We dug in. My husband's meal was perfect. After I ate a couple pieces of my chicken, I began to wonder where the cauliflower, carrots, green beans, and squash were. All I could see were onions and bell peppers. I asked the older gentleman, who discovered that the grandson forgot to bring it. He had an order made fresh for me and I took it to go, along with the two pieces of chicken I couldn't finish. The Tandoori Chicken was actually great value. For $13.99, I got six whole pieces of chicken (with bone) grilled in the tandoor, plus raita, steamed vegetables, and of course, onions and bell peppers. The problem was the service. The final straw was when the raita appeared on the bill. It clearly stated on the menu that raita came with my meal. They took it off the bill when I asked them to, but that shouldn't have happened. A friend and I drove an hour to see a show at Ball State University Theater and planned to eat at Sitara before the performance, which started at 7:30. We got to the restaurant at 5:30 which should have given us plenty of time. We were promptly seated, ordered and got drinks and the crackers they serve before the meal. Then we waited and waited. After 50 minutes, we asked the server if our meal is coming soon. She went back to the kitchen to check and then came back out and told us it would be about 20 more minutes with no explanation. After waiting some more, we tagged down the manager/owner Who told us they had a very large order in the kitchen that they had to finish and then they could start working on the orders in the restaurant. It wasn't very busy when we arrived but by this time most of the tables had filled up and no one had gotten any food! I feel that when we ordered we should've been told that there would be an extra long wait, and also, the waitress should've been checking in with us offering more water or maybe an appetizer since we were waiting so long. She had nothing to do since no orders were coming or going and she spent most of that hour and a half waiting around. Once our food came, the manager was very good about rushing our bills and getting to go boxes since we didn't really have time to finish all of our food. The food was very delicious and fantastic and I really enjoyed it for leftovers the next day when I had more time to eat it. So food 5 stars, service 2 stars. I understand sometimes restaurants get behind I just think they should've let us know in advance that the food was taking that long, we hardly had time to eat when the food finally came. read more

Sitara is fast becoming one of my favorite restaurants in Muncie - such a great addition to the food scene (or lack thereof) in this city! It's located in a strip, so it may be easy to overlook - but I feel sorry for those people... get in here and try out this delicious Indian food! Hands down, my FAVORITE Indian entree is the Chicken Tikka Masala... HEAVENLY... every time! It comes out in a bowl with a spoon and there is a dish of rice on the side. Spoon some rice onto your place, spoon some tikka masala amazingness on top of the rice and voila.... fantastic! Also, don't forget the naan! The Garlic Naan is my favorite. ^_^ And if you've saved room for dessert - and I suggest that you do sometime - try the rice Kheer.... soooooo gooood!!! I've uploaded pictures of everything I mentioned here. Check 'em out and check out this restaurant! Every time I've gone in, there is plenty of parking and open tables. The servers have always been kind. As a matter of fact, one guy that we had complimented our neatness as we had gotten through a meal and hadn't gotten rice all over the table, lol. Sitara is owned by a lovely Nepali couple, and if you get the chance, talk to them!! Overall, the food has been quite Americanized (flavors toned down), which although isn't surprising for Muncie...leaves a lot left to be desired. Food: Paneer Pakora - decent fried cheese appetizer. The chutney is great (it's green, ask for some!) Gobi Manchurian - This is an Indo-Chinese dish of battered and fried cauliflower. Though fresh and hot, it was lacking in garlic and chili and therefore on the bland side Chicken Vindaloo - unfortunately, the curry was missing the citrus and cinnamon complexity that makes this dish SO GOOD when done right. It was spicy, which we appreciated, but it was a stretch to be called 'Vindaloo". The chicken was cooked perfectly, very tender If you haven't had Indian before, or if you are still trying to figure out what you like, I think you'll have a good meal here. read more

One would think the best Indiana restaurant in the state would be in Bloomington or Indianapolis, or mabye Lafayette. One would be wrong. Sitara far outpaces restaurants in any of those places in terms of both price and quality. The food always seems to be fresh and the spices/herbs fragrant. I've even had fresh mint on sauce there before. The naan is both crispy and chewy and daal is on point. My only complaint would be the halwa, which is a bit oily. I wish they would put some authentic Nepali fare on the menu, too. read more

Came here tonight with my son. Cannot rate the food because we never got any. The one star was for the fact that we were seated. When we arrived there was only one other couple. The waiter asked what we'd like to drink, and they were out of each of the first four beers my son tried to order. He finally settled on his fifth choice, and we waited and waited and waited. We watched the waiter wander around the restaurant but he didn't come close to us. He didn't bring the beer and he didn't take our order. He hadn't asked if we wanted an appetizer. He never asked what we wanted for our entrée. Another group was seated right next to us after a few minutes and I don't think he took their order either. After about five more minutes we decided to leave. As we were walking out the door a man said he was bringing the beer. I wanted to ask what day. SUGGESTIONS FOR THE OWNER /MANAGER: If you're out of that many beers you might want to have the waiter start with a comment about the delivery being delayed or something and suggest a few good beers that you do have. You also might want to ask the guests if they would like to order an appetizer or at least take their order within a few minutes. You were certainly not busy. read more
