We had purchased a uniquely well suited "mechanical" bed from this company in 2012. It was an excellent choice and had served us well. The mechanical base unit is still working well after 7 years, but the mattress portion (as was reasonably expected) had started to deteriorate to the point of discomfort.
Since the original purchase with both the mattress and the mechanical metal base was (by our standards) extravagantly expensive, we were hoping that we could get by with merely replacing the mattress at this time. So I went to the Sit n' Sleep website to get some preliminary questions answered, hoping we could eliminate the need to check out other bed stores, and if returning to Sit n' Sleep we could make it a "short and sweet" trip, just ordering a replacement for the mattress that has served us well for the past seven years.
But the Yelp site emerged from my browser simultaneously as I connected with the store's web page. So naturally, I wanted to compare our on-going experience with that of customers who had posted during the past several years. In reading more reviews than I originally intended, when I finally stopped, three major points stood out (in my faltering short term " AARP qualified memory"), 1) about the usual ratio of customers in the "wonderful" and "horrible" reviews, 2) a significant number of complaints related to allegations of " ... product delivered was very different than product I purchased, and/or disappointed at most parts of follow through by the support/service team from the company, 3) a significant number of customer reviews focused on the positive experience they had with the store's sales personnel, especially one David Stengel. I was kind of intrigued by the manifold customer narratives of the actions, attitude, and authenticity of David Stengel. I wondered if this guy was still even working there, or if some "headhunter" , or HR wizard from some higher end sales arena might have recruited him away.
So, on a rainy afternoon last week we exited our rain-soaked car and scurried into the Oxnard Sit 'n Sleep. Ten seconds after entering the "quiet as a mausoleum " showroom, a smiling gentleman with a warm
(almost impishly friendly) demeanor extended his hand and a welcome. I must admit I was looking at his name badge and felt instantly delighted to see he was David Stengel.
Everything glowingly reported in the Yelp ads I had read about this man was confirmed in the half hour my wife and I spent working with David Stengel. While David's just simply being a positive and delightful human during the selection and purchase of the new mattress certainly added to the ease of this transaction, there were several specific "things" he did that made this shopping trip the best I've ever experienced: 1)hearing that we were repeat customers, he pulled our sales history up in computer, verified all the product information from the original purchase and used it to narrow our potential selections to the most appropriate 3 and explained his rationale, 2) he conducted a quick but thorough demonstration of comparative details of the 3 "target" mattresses as he had us experience laying on the respective choices, 3) he did not try to then-"up sell", or push accessories on us if/when we indicated we were not interested in many of them, 4) he gave us a bottom line financial discount off of the posted price, without the necessity of us haggling or trying to negotiate the price.
Tomorrow our new purchase is scheduled to arrive. Hopefully, that will be the culminating detain in a very productive and pleasant second buying experience at the Oxnard Sit 'n Sleep. read more
