Rude ass female bar tender. Not sure her name...Short, covered in tattoos, black hair. I didn't know what I wanted so my friends all ordered and one of them was a cocktail. Instead of grabbing the other drinks and starting the cocktail she just waited for me to figure out what i wanted. I literally had just walked up and didn't know what i wanted, her body language was telling me she was anxious and she even sighed waiting for me to figure it out. Fucking Rude! Why wouldn't she just go make the other drinks and give me time to decide? No, she had to hover around and make a fit not even offering any advice or samples or anything. Finally I settled on something local and I told her (the bartender) I didn't know how to pronounce the beer and so I pointed at it and politely asked for a pint. She responded: "read it". I might return to Sister bar for the music but I will NEVER support this bar by purchasing drinks again. Hello. My name is Sara Roman. I have been a longtime supporter of live music here in Albuquerque and would like to take a moment to thank you for adding to the live music experience here in Albuquerque with such a great venue. I am writing this evening to share some concern in regards to your bar staff. I was a patron of your bar last Friday. I was there to take in the Carnival celebrations and visit with my dear friends The B-Side Players. I brought many patrons to your establishment that night as I had attended the Southwest Burlesque Showcase at the Kimo Theater earlier in the evening and many of the lovely ladies featured there joined me for drinks and music after. My concern is that it did not appear that your bar staff was at all pleased to be there. I would like to bring attention to one individual in particular. His name is Ben and he was not only rude but violent to me that night. I ordered a cocktail from Ben and took it back to the booth that my party was sitting at. We were seated at the booth that opens up into the dance floor. I believe it is the SW corner of the dance floor. I got up to dance right in front of my booth and left my drink on the table. I saw a busser take my cocktail but was unable to catch him before he dumped it as there were huge crowds there that night. I went back to the bar to inform Ben that my drink had been taken by accident. I did hope that Ben would poor me another if only because he knew I just ordered it minutes before. Ben proceeded to roll his eyes at me and tell me, "Well you shouldn't have left it unattended". I informed him that I was dancing near the table and actually saw him take it. He then raised his voice and said, "Fine I'll poor you another fuckin drink" and then punched his fist to his palm as if to suggest it was my face. I never asked Ben to poor me another cocktail, yet he treated me as if I was just taking advantage of the bar and the violence he suggested was offensive and completely uncalled for. I understand that working behind a bar is not easy and dealing with many customers and alcohol can sometimes be trying, however, your business is still a customer service establishment. I know many of the promoters that work very hard to keep your venue busy and I believe that the kind of service that the bar staff delivers is a huge injustice to the work of the promoters. My experience last Friday may have been the most extreme display of horrible service that I have experienced at your establishment, but not the first time I have been treated badly. The bar staff always seems to be upset when I order drinks and it appears they do not enjoy their work. I support your venue often and it is very frustrating to buy drinks at your bar when the staff portrays themselves as self-righteous snobs who are upset that you are having a good time while they are stuck working. Some of the best shows in Albuquerque happen at Sister Bar and anyone fortunate enough to work there should show some sort of enthusiasm about it. Instead, I and many other patrons are met with attitude and bad service when we come to your bar. I tried to call the bar to pose my complaint, however, it does not appear that answering the phone is a priority of your staff either. I do hope that this email reaches the owner of Sister Bar and am requesting some sort of follow up either by email or phone. I will say right off the bat that I can't really speak to the quality of the late night crowd at Sister, because I mostly go after work for happy hour. That said, the atmosphere, food, and drinks at this bar are excellent. They always have drink specials and half off tots during happy hour, plus a solid Taco Tuesday menu. If you only try one thing get the Kimchi Tater Tots, they are incredible and go perfectly with a cold beer or cocktail. I have never been disappointed here! read more

They have food now! Between my partner and I we tried all their taco offerings minus the calabacitas. They come in corn tortillas--my preference for tacos. My favorite was the carnitas--love the freshness of radishes/pico--but all tacos were good! The bean taco might need some additional salt. Some of them come with a tiny bit of salsa which is quite tasty. They also have different fries and tater tots. I recommend the truffle fries. Also tried the kimchi tater tots but I didn't enjoy the cheese mixed in with warm kimchi and spicy mayo--I guess I'm a cold kimchi lover only. The beer selection at this bar is good! read more

The clientele were rude and combative. The girl at the door was rude. We purchased tickets and then were told if we went to the car to change shoes, we would not be let back in, despite having already paid for our tickets to get in. Overall, the vibe was unpleasant and the drinks were overpriced. If you are 21 years old, you'll probably have a good time but if you are older and want to have a good time, good luck. First time here. How hard is it to cover up the back of the trash cans facing the first booth? Didn't notice it when I first sat down. Then the other booths filled up and I have the trash can and it's smells on the back of my neck all night. Tacos on Tuesday were goodish but the trash smell kinda killed it for me. Great space! However, service ruined it all for me. First time at the bar, after 10 mins of standing there with money in hand, a busy bartender at the other end came down to serve us. Great bartender, crappy co-bartenders. Second time at the bar, after ten minutes and a bartender looking at golf clubs for five minutes (we believe he was buying the clubs while working) started getting back to work by wiping the counter and doing dishes while three separate groups formed at his end of the counter waiting to be served. The thing about this bar is they know they've got a great place, and they take advantage of that. I love pinball, and their tables are in great shape. They're better than anodyne for that, which is a bummer because I prefer anodyne. I am also a fan of Sister's beer selection and cocktails, and their food is alright for what it is. In addition to that, there have been some really great acts that have played there. So why is that bad? Well, when you have a $15 cover to get in, and you're short at least one bartender for the amount of people you let in, you've kind of got your priorities mixed up. Especially for special events, after paying so much to get in, you'd think you wouldn't have to wait all night for your second drink (if you get a first). What also chaps my hide about their MO, is when they first opened they were telling local music acts that they were "focusing on national acts". Put a lack of support for the music scene you rely on, plus a massive cover and insufficient staff numbers together, and you can be as great as you want, but in the end you're treating your own community bad. I will avoid Sister as much as possible because I don't agree with their business practices. read more

Would have gotten 5 stars but, the bartender gave me a closed receipt that wasn't itemized with a total of $33.00. The next morning I checked my bank statement and the total was $27.00. It appears she gave herself a $5.00 tip and then I tipped an additional $7.00. I gave the manager a chance to provide me with an itemized receipt no later than Monday by 5pm. Today is Thursday and no email or call. I'm filing a complaint with the bbb. Service was decent, food was great and fun, really liked the atmosphere. Great greeter at the entrance. THIS BAR IS THE WOAT. They turned our group of 8 away on NYE because we were "too drunk" after having one drink a person at dinner. They would not give us an explanation for their reasoning and when we pressed them for answers they could not give us any. I've been spending some time in downtown ABQ lately. IT'S GETTING GOOD. A really nice corner grocery on 2nd and Silver across from my friends really nice apartment building. Side Track down the block , with it's friendly staff and a 3 barrel brew system that is like great home brewing. Asian Pear ! Sister Bar is now on my list of stops to make more than once a week. Recently went for the Women's March and the place was packed. A Raspberry,Lychee, Passion Fruit Gimlet (whose proceeds went to PLANNED PARENTHOOD ! YEAH!!! Eff U Cheeto In Charge) tickled my taste buds and made me feel warm inside :) . It was called The Pussy Grabs Back ! Brilliant on all accounts ! A burly and friendly guy behind the bar named Zeus was happy to tell me which pinball machines were his favorites . They have more than 10 . WAY FUN !!! The chile cheese tater tots are delectable.They serve up a perfect portion that will satisfy the non liquid portion of your daily need for certain. read more

This is a new favorite place to go downtown. I've been here to see live music and just to meet friends. We met friends for the Odell's tap take over and the beer was delicious. I also ordered an Asian pork taco and a bean taco. The pork was tangy while the beans were smoky, a great combo. They also have a couple interesting non-alcoholic mixed drinks if you're on the wagon. There are a ton of vintage video games too. My favorite is Joust in which ostrich riding jousters duke it out. There are booths that make this massive bar seem more intimate and interesting murals and creepy hoarder-like curiosities. It's a great bar. read more

I accidentally stopped in here while searching for another bar and ended up sticking around for several hours because it was so great. Cool seating, lighting, and decor. I really appreciate how long the bar is - no ridiculous lines. Service was quick, and the guy who made my drink was really friendly despite how busy he was. They had the funnest DJ mixing up classic 80s tunes and everyone was dancing on the dance floor. The floor is really great and there are wall hooks for purses and coats and a shelf to set your drinks on while you dance. This bar is genenerally accomodating and unique in really cool ways. The retro couches for smoking on the front porch give it a charm like a punk house. I had an absolute blast here. Can't wait to re-visit Albuquerque next year so I can stop in again. read more

I was not expecting to happen upon this new ABQ hotspot on my way to Albuquerque-fave Anodyne last night. This big, open-spaced bar occupies a space that has notoriously hosted bar-fail after bar-fail, but it finally seems to have found its footing. Sister Bar is straight out of Brooklyn, with a hip, fun crowd to match. I was especially impressed with the draft beer selection--over 20 on tap!! If you're willing to bear the typical, collegiate downtown crowd, this bar is a must for a Friday or Saturday night. read more

Quite literally this is the sister bar to Anodyne. From what I understand, it use to be some club but has been re-opened by a few of the bartenders who worked at Anodyne. It has a similar vibe in as much as it's also a hipster bar, but it has many more beers on tap. They're all local or micro brews. What really punches my ticket is the ambiance. It's built between two old brick buildings whose walls give the place an old, turn of the century look. The magnificent wooden bar is unlike any other downtown. It's a gorgeous, massive piece of woodwork. The leather seats aren't bad either. You really can't go wrong at this place. They've been consistently on their game. read more

Just thought I would share an experience that I had at sister bar last night. I ordered a old fashioned from the bartender. In my impulsiveness, I grabbed my drink from the bar mat because I just thought he was done making it and was also very eager to drink this drink. He then yelled at me for doing that because he wasn't done making it and was like you never grab a drink from the mat. He then continued to belittle me and asked me if I was even 21 (I'm 24 but if I was under 21 that would have been sisters fault for not regulating that) and then insisted that I have little experience drinking At bars. He lectured me for about two minutes about what a fucked up thing that was for me to do. I've been to a lot of bars and I have been to sister many times and have never had this problem before. I agree that it was my mistake and do not deny that I grabbed the drink when I shouldn't have but the berating response I received was a little over the top. He just left the drink right in front of me, turned his back and the drink was in my arms length. It was a genuine mistake on my part. I was honestly in shock by what had just happened I really couldn't muster the words to defend myself. So I just sat there like a fool during the bartender's verbal abuse. Objectively speaking, why was he so upset? It's my problem if i drink an unfinished drink. I'm the paying customer, paying for MY drink. This bartender is really lucky that my friend paid for the drink because I would have left a tip of $0.00. I'm leaving an extra star in this review because of all the positive experiences I have had at sister bar in the past. It just honestly sucks that this bartender tainted my opinion of an otherwise great bar. read more

This place was really really cool, even though it might look shady outside (a couple of sketchy characters). And even though it looks like a dark barcade inside, it was a really cool place to hangout. The drinks were on point - masterfully crafted. And the food was also awesome. We got the tots which were tasty and the tacos which were small but filling and flavorful. We had a lot of fun playing some of the arcade games afterwards. Will definitely return next time we're in Albuquerque. read more

One star based on the service alone. The bartender is very unpleasant and seems bothered by doing her job. In the service industry, when you're annoyed with your job, probably better to stay home or check the chip on your shoulder at the door. Jesus. She got our orders wrong and was totally bothered that she had to correct HER mistakes. Didn't ask how we wanted our eggs or if we wanted red or green chile. The menu clearly states red or green and she decided to just choose red for me instead of asking. When I clarified what I wanted she rolled her eyes and went to tell the cook. What a c u next Tuesday. Brunch prices are a bit high considering that you have to order at the bar and bring a number to the table, cafeteria style. And of course they expect you to tip. Maybe I'm asking too much for my brunch experience. First time brunch will most definitely be the last. I feel like we are most unwelcome because of the crappy service and poor attitude of the staff member we were unfortunate enough to bother today. I wish she had just stayed home. They used to come with an extra tortilla underneath the taco to pick up and eat what falls out, but past few times I went I didn't get the extra tortilla. Bummer. Great cocktails and the tacos are delish! I had the taco with kimchi at the bartender's suggestion, and she was right--the classic tacos ore good, but the fusion is amazing! This was by first downtown ABQ bar experience. I was a little nervous, but it was great. It is a big bar with good lighting for a bar. Also they have "bags" (as I call it with an awesome WI short a sound.) I think most people around here call it "corn hole." I had to leave my ID to get the bags to play, which I was fine with. My husband was pleased with their beer selection minus the fact that they were out of Myrcenary. I was pleased because the bartenders gave me virgin drinks for free all night. Walking in to this hip establishment with retro arcade games like Frogger, Pacman, and even The Simpsons-- I was immediately asking myself how I hadn't been here sooner? The blonde bombshell ( a stellar recommendation from the bartender), was on point. We had a lot of different food orders as there were more than 10 of us and we all ate. The fries were awesome, especially the greek fries. The order was completed flawlessly and all in all I dug this bar and will for sure go back on a lazy Sun. or for some live music.
