On August 2, 2024, I had a 9AM appointment scheduled with Dr. England through the Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA). I had previously contacted the VA to get a pair of glasses made and they referred me to Dr. England because their internal optometry department was too backed up. The intent of my appointment was solely to get a prescription for eyeglasses as I have another primary care optometrist I see for contacts and eye health. When I arrived at my appointment, I was told that Dr. England requires all new patients to get their eyes dilated. I asked if he could make an exception to this policy as I was only there for an eyeglass prescription, and that I had another primary eyecare provider who could share a recent (less than 60 day old) retinal scan - the modern alternative to dilation. Additionally, I rode my bike to the appointment and had to go back to work on a computer for the rest of the day, so dilation would create additional, unnecessary risk to my safety during my ride home and cause me to lose half a day of productive work. Despite these circumstances I was told there were no exceptions to his policy that all new patients were required to be dilated. Needless to say, I left Siskiyou Eye Center that day without accomplishing anything other than discovering that Dr. England is a stick-in-the-mud who refuses to adapt his policies to meet the needs of modern veterans. read more

Tisha is awful I often commend, exceptional workers, having a phone call with Tisha was absolutely horrible. I recently received a bill in regards to an account my of my deceased father that was from February 2022. He has recently passed away and I'm doing my best to resolve and take care of any loose ends. Upon receiving the bill, I immediately reached out and spoke with Tisha. When I explain to her the situation, no condolences were offered. On the statement, I asked her to explain as it states there was a credit, and she insisted it was a mistake. She then instructed me to call insurances to resolve the matter on my own. She offered no assistance or help and I reminded her that I would be doing the best I can under the circumstances, still no condolences offered. After I mentioned that she did not offer assistance or condolences, there was no apology or sensitivity whatsoever. Disappointing, a person working in customer service, management, and with the public it would be the decent thing to do. Hope you really consider the people you hire and work with in the community. read more

Back in November, 2019 I failed my vision test at the DMV. My husband said we need to get you to the eye doctor. My cataracts had been removed by Dr. Matt Oliva of Medical Eye Care Center in Medford in late 2016. He did a wonderful job of removing my cataracts on both eyes so, of course, that is where Michael and I went. We were confronted by shocking rudeness at the front desk and, bottom line, the young woman on the front desk said that I would have to wait until February, 2020 to even see the doctor. Her rudeness and lack of caring were so egregious that we left without an appointment. Michael said, "You need to find another eye doctor." We came home and I got on Yelp. I didn't know where to turn. I called Paden Eye Center. I spoke to a wonderful person who spoke to Dr. Paden on my behalf. He said he could not help me but I should call Dr. Jeff Welder at Siskiyou Eye Care Center. I did so immediately -- and I got MINNIE!!! She was absolutely amazing. She said"Oh, you have to see Dr. Welder tomorrow." She was so resolute and comforting. I was amazed. She said let me email him because he's not here today and I'll get back with you. She did exactly what she said she would do super - fast and the next thing I knew I had an appointment at 1 PM for the next afternoon. Wow! What a difference in caring, concern, and kindness. I sent both of those ladies that helped me so much a bouquet of flowers. If I could have I would've sent them in an entire florist shop; I was just that grateful for their help. The next afternoon I was there on time, of course, and learned that I had grown secondary cataracts. Not very many people do this but, of course, I was one of the lucky winners. In short order, Dr. Welder performed a YAG laser procedure on each of my eyes (at different times) and I could see again. I have uncorrected 20/40 vision!!! Without exception, every single person I worked with at Siskiyou Eye Care Center was absolutely wonderful. Dr. Welder is my new eye doctor -- for life. Siskiyou Eye Care Center is STUCK with me. And, I will always love Minnie for helping me when I was in dire need with such kindness and graciousness. I am extremely grateful. read more

I read a review that said this center seems to push their services so they can bill, bill, bill. Wish I had read this before I went. It does feel like a 3-ring circus having 2 different staff members (no MDs) do different tests and exams on you. And the first exam was rushed. The woman that tested my vision was not an MD. I did not know that was legal. I finally got to see Dr. Epstein and he was very professional and considerate. Beware if you do go, clarify and confirm what is covered by you insurance. I got a bill for $230 despite having excellent vision coverage through my work (I've never had to pay for an initial exam or even a co-pay with previous eye docs.) read more

I have been a patient at SEC since 1997 when I moved to Mount Shasta. Bill Epstein, MD has been really through all these years. I moved to Central Point in 2014 and had an appointment with Bill coming up. Showed up to my appointment and was told I would be seeing Dr. Welder, I said what? Best thing that ever happened to me. Love Dr. Welder so kind, and very through. He spotted my Macular Degeneration and put me on AREDS2 which slows down progression or keeps it from progressing. I also take TheraTears Nutrition for my dry eyes. Also keeping an eye on my optic nerve problems. read more

Everyone on this office was friendly and seemed competent, though everybody was also stressed and rushed, as this is a very high-volume practice. My biggest negative is the lack of modern diagnostic technology being used here. The three types of machines they used during my exam have all been in use, I believe, since the '80s or before. I have been to other eye doctors where the standard exam includes up to ten diagnostic machines. This makes me wonder if the exam here was incomplete, and if the doctors' skill and knowledge are as out of date as their equipment. read more

The two front office women (dawn and the Jeanine) are so accommodating! I called looking to get in same day but not expecting them to be able to see me and to my surprise they worked me in!!!! I had surgery a couple weeks ago with a different surgeon and was having major pain everytime I blinked it felt like sand was in my eye. I had to bring my two little guys, 2yrs & 5yrs old so it was chaotic. The staff gave them both new toys to play with while I was being seen and were so kind. Then I was seen by Dr. Epstein and he was so thorough even tho he wasnt the one who had done my eyelid surgery originally. He did a quick painless procedure with post instruction on how to keep my eyelids healthy and stye free and instantly my eye felt better. I am so grateful for finding this gem! One of the staff members recommended a beautiful park in downtown Ashland and was so wonderful. Great experience. Hope I don't have to go back but recommend everyone using them. I was threatened in the lobby by a patient. Every staff member in the front watched it happen and said nothing. It was business as usual as they continued to get that patients insurance information. As the patient left they called me a queer (because I was wearing a pink shirt I guess?). None of the staff said anything to me. I was called back to Dr. Jeffrey Welder and he was oblivious to the incident... Jeffrey asked how I was doing and I said that I wasn't doing that great considering I was threatened in the lobby just now. Jeffrey stepped out and spoke with the front desk. When Jeffrey returned he apologized for the situation, said the front desk would identify the patients, and continued the exam. When I went back to the lobby, no one else said anything except, "do you have vision insurance?" read more

I want to commend the excellent staff at Siskiyou Eye Center. My first greeting, Callie welcomed me back even though I had only been in once before. Tim was next, doing preliminary measurements. I felt at ease and welcome. In the process, I learned details and was offered explanations about eye care and correction. Great sense of humor. My doctor, Dr. Epstien, was the comusumate professional, kind and genuine. My last encounter was with Harold in the eye glasses area. It can be overwhelming to chose from such a great selection. He was patient and gave great advice on a choice that lasts for years. Each person during my encounter made me feel like a valued customer. After the visit, I had a question and dropped in. I was warmly greeted and then had another valuable education with Harold. He assured me that Siskiyou Eye Center would make sure they would make adjustments until I am satisfied. read more

I had been putting off my appointment due to Covid19 concerns. I finally decided this was as good a time to go as any. My only concern is the long wait I had (at least 30 minutes), even with an appointment, and there were quite a few people waiting close to me. I don't feel comfortable giving details here, but I heard unbelievable things spoken by Dr. Welder, had extremely disappointing inadequate treatment, and have been sent on wild goose chases to more than one specialist (at great inconvenience and expense) because he didn't give proper diagnosis. I had an urgent need to see the eye doctor the day before I was moving out of town. I was a walk-in and the staff were so generous with me. They got me in to see the doctor within an hour. And he was able to assess my challenge. And prescribe just when I needed. They were lovely. I would highly recommend them. read more

Absolutely unprofessional. I had a horrible experience by a neurotic doctor today named, David England. I came in prior to this visit and had ordered glasses, a progressive, which did not work at all, as everything was blurry in all three dimensions. Therefore they ordered me to come back in today and retest, but with a different doctor who the optical department scheduled me with. I brought with me again, my old reading glasses which were fitting my needs perfectly, and I had wanted them to compare my prescription to my current prescription that they could hopefully make into a new bifocal I was hoping to have made. But I got resistance from the moment I was in office with them, as I was met with disbelief, my questions discounted right away about my concerns and questions, about this matter. Dr. England was rude, controlling, and dismissive. He was in a hurry and it showed big time. He put both his hands on both my arms and squeezed them as he was talking right in my face as we were seated at the eye testing seat, right across from each other, and I said right away, "don't touch me". He had no business grabbing my arms like that. He then took his hands off but then did it again shortly thereafter. I said again, "don't touch me like that." He was trying to intimidate me, and I can't stand that. (I should have got up and left at that moment) He was acting neurotic, because he was impatient with having to answer my question about the glasses, which he didn't know how to answer for some reason, and didn't want to discuss anything but his agenda only. He said he didn't have much time with me, he had other patients out there waiting for him, and wanted me to shut up and let him do his job. There he was acting so rude, controlling and pushy, and I said I do not appreciate being pushed out the door so fast when I came here to get eye care and get fitted for correct glasses. I asked him, why are you acting this way? You don't have to be this way, I mean we are a team, not competitors. He responded with, "thank you, mommy". I mean, how immature and unprofessional is that? It was awful, yet I stayed calm, and said that I would not be buying glasses here. I asked for my latest prescription to leave, and at first he refused to give it to me, but then realized that I asked him for it front of the back office, and he said, you can pick it up at the front desk. Unbelievable, yet believable. This was Ashland, I would never recommend anyone to this dysfunctional clinic again. The administrator came out and apologized for him squeezing my arms like that, and said that he apologized to me in the room, but he did not. That doctor was controlling and too neurotic for me, and I hope other patients do not allow themselves be disrespected and pushed around like that. Patients are treated like robots being sent through there as fast as can be like an impersonal assembly line, (not listening to your questions or concerns) because that is exactly what was going on there. read more

I called twice before making an appointment to have my eyes examined for new glasses and was told twice that it would cost $61.00. I went for the appointment, paid my $61.00 and received my prescription for new glasses. I did not buy the glasses there, much too expensive, I bought them on the internet for the price of what they would have charged for the frames alone. The glasses are great. A few weeks later, I received a bill from Siskiyou Eye Center to pay an additional $150.00. When I called them I was told that it was for the Comprehensive new patient exam that I was not informed about and did not give consent to. So, even the after making informed telephone calls, they seem to still find back door ways to make their money. I will not pay the bill. read more

This was my third and last visit to the Siskiyou Eye Center. First time went Ok - in waiting room 5 minutes, then a seemingly bored technician went through rote eye exam procedures and left me in an exam room. Almost an hour later, Dr. Ewing came in with an entourage to examine me. He was kind and did a quick but thorough exam. I was annoyed with the hour wait, but wrote it off as a one timer. Next visit 6 months later, same thing: a seemingly bored and uninterested technician walked through my exam and after 5 minutes left me in the exam room. During the next hour of waiting, no staff come in to see me and I could hear talking and laughing outside the door - there are a lot of uniformed staff here. After an hour alone again, I got up and opened the door to leave just as Dr. Ewing and his entourage were about to finally come in. OK, so my 3rd visit 6 months later I got wiser and booked an appointment for 8:50 before he could get backlogged. I showed up on time. One other person waiting. Plenty of uniformed staff. A 5 minute wait in the lobby. A bored technician goes through his exam and again leaves me in an exam room. At 9:50, still no doctor nor any staff comes in to check on me during that hour wait to let me know that they are running late. That's it. Third time. I leave and the office manager tries a lame excuse. I tell her that they are booking too many patients if the doctor is always an hour or more behind, even at 9am!!! There are lots of staff here, but nobody seems to care after you are dumped in an exam room. I am heading elsewhere: Medford, Portland, Sacramento, some place where they actually show some compassion for their long-waiting patients who are dumped and left in an exam room to rot. read more

From the standpoint of ourselves each having had cataract surgery, in addition to myself having lens implants to correct astigmatism, we have never experienced the exacting care we have experienced with Siskiyou Eye Center in any medical setting. It is obvious the doctors and staff have made it their goal to have the best technology, expertise, and loving care a patient can receive. Staff is great, friendly and professional. Doctors are terrific. Only 3 stars because they aren't being safe regarding COVID-19. Staff mostly wearing face shields, some with them tilted up so zero protection for patients. Only a few wearing masks. Plus they had the waiting room pretty packed, no way to stay 6 feet apart. They hand out little buzzers but there was no hand sanitizer in the waiting room. They need to up their game for the winter. read more

Their business model is to have the opthamologist spend about 3 minutes tops with you. The eye exams are conducted by people who do not know what they're doing. I've never had worse glasses than the ones I bought through them. Because I have an eye disease, I've gone here two different times and the same thing happened. I've had much better luck with the smaller practices in town that don't have doctors as part of their practice. I just wonder why they are so cheap that they refuse to hire professional staff. read more

Do not go here unless you want doctors, front desk staff, and assistants who think it is okay to talk down to you and mock you to the point of laughing at you in front of a waiting room full of people. I went here recently and had absolutely horrid service. As a new customer, I came in and had to fill out quite a bit of paperwork, which is normal and I didn't have a problem with. I came in 15 minutes early to get it done, like they asked. I did, however, have a problem with the girl who took me back to start my appointment making snide little comments about how long it took me to fill out the paperwork. Not necessary. So I get my eyes examined by this person which is all fine and good then she goes to get the doctor. Fifteen minutes later a doctor comes strolling in with a young woman behind him. Sits down and starts talking to her, doesn't acknowledge me. I think she was some sort of trainee/intern? It was never explained to me but I'm definitely not okay with just anyone following a doctor around being able to look at my medical and personal records. So then he finally looks at what the previous person wrote down, spends about 45 seconds on my eyes, and changes my prescription. Then he leaves the room, leaving just me and the "trainee." She keeps typing something, ignoring me. After about a minute I asked if the appointment was over, and she gives me a look like that was the dumbest question anyone in the history of man has asked. So I then asked where I should go to pick out new frames and schedule when to pick up new glasses with new prescription. She asks, "what do you mean?" Well, I'm at a doctors office and was written a prescription, so Im not really sure why this is a confusing question, but I explain as best I can that when a person gets a new prescription, that means they need new lenses. Seeing as it has been over two years since my last pair, my insurance will cover new frames as well. I ask who I should see about this. Her answer? "You can go pay your copay at the front desk. They might know." What? Am I in an eye doctor's office or not? So I go to the front desk and get someone's attention. She gets my copay and tells me that the person who puts in orders for frames and lenses is on vacation and they're not sure when she'll be back. No, I can't make an appointment. I'll just have to drive from Talent to Ashland at some random point in time and hope she'll be there and not busy, apparently. So I ask if I can at least get a copy of my prescription papers for my personal records, and I again get a look like I am just the stupidest person who has ever walked in there. I see the trainee girl walking by and ask her for a copy. She says yes and quickly disappears into the back office. After about 5 minutes, still standing at the desk as this should take all of 2 seconds, I see her walk out again, empty handed. As soon as she sees me, she turns back around walks through another door. So I again get the attention of the front desk person, and she asks another trainee person, a big guy in blue scrubs who gives a dirty look and a sigh before sauntering into the back office. While I continue to wait, two other couples come up to the desk and complain about their service as well, which I think is noteworthy. A few minutes later, he comes out and says loudly enough for the whole room to hear, "this is a HUGE waste of time and paper, but here you go." This prompts laughs from a couple of the front desk ladies, who are suddenly not busy enough to ignore what's happening in front of them. All in all, I was extremely disappointed in my experience. I found the service and actions of the staff completely unacceptable. Suffice it to say, I did not return for lenses/frames. I've told several friends and coworkers who also wear glasses or contacts to avoid this place like the plague. read more

Did not spend much time with the Ophthalmologist. But I will say that the technician who ran ALL OF MY VISION TESTS, ETC. was wonderful. I believe her name is Clara. In my previous clinic, my Opthamologist spent time conducting some of the tests, and double-checking my weird vision problem. Not so with this clinic. The second time I went there (for a slightly different vision test) there was confusion between optometrist, the reception desk, AND the doctor. Then later I heard staff (may have included this young doctor also laughing and joking in the other room). To me, that's very unprofessional. read more
