I do not have vision benefits anymore so I called before I scheduled an appointment to ask self pay pricing and was told it would be $175 including the addition of the Retina scanner for contact lens exam. This was fine for me so I went through with the appointment. When it came time to check out I was actually billed $228, when I mentioned I was quoted something much different over the phone, I was told there was nothing they could do and that they don't know who would have said that (which is weird to me considering how small the clinic is). They either need to do a better job coaching their front office staff, or they need to honor what customer has been told to avoid other unfortunate discrepancies resulting in lost clients. read more

Doctor was very condescending and they are very aggressive in trying to sell you more expensive glasses. I mentioned I might choose to take my prescription to get glasses elsewhere and they made very sarcastic comments. It was a very uncomfortable environment and very overpriced. There are more affordable options with much more respectful doctors. read more

I am an 'out of the pocket' payer and went to Artisan Eyeworks because some reviews made it sound like it was worth the extra $$$. That wasn't my experience. After cancelling on me twice (the last time was the day before my appointment), I was seen by a kind -but fast moving -eye doctor who told me it was supposed to be his day off and was as quick as possible. I had paid for an extra test. When I asked about it later I was told the doctor should have gone over it with me. He didn't. Nothing special indeed. I think maybe this business should focus more on quality and less on quantity. Will save myself the $250 eye exam next time and go to a more affordable and just as friendly location. read more

Visiting Ashland from out of town and broke my frames trying to put on a face mask. It's late afternoon and I Googled "eyeglass repair near me". Because of Covid-19 the store only sees patients by appointment for contact tracing. They understood that I don't live here and am only in town for work overnight. They graciously took my information and let me come in. Within 5 minutes my glasses are fixed and they were as polite as possible. If I lived here I'd be a customer and recommend them to all my friends. I'm really very appreciative of their willingness to accommodate me. read more

Excellent service! Dr. Hoyt and his staff make the whole experience enjoyable, without the rushed patient mill feel you get with most medical experiences. Not a fan of Ashland, it is located well away from the busy area in the quiet part so I do not mind. The office was well done to fit in the area also. read more

Everything about my experience was good. Dr. Hoyt is not only professional and competent (he spotted a potentially serious problem with one eye that had been overlooked in previous exams), he's also an exceptionally likable fellow. And the vibe carries over to the staff: everyone was pleasant and helpful (special thanks to Megan). Really, it's a happy place and everyone is competent. I don't think you can do better. When it comes to getting glasses, I can be quite a difficult patient. I get nervous (white coat syndrome) and talk too much, which is irritating to many health care practitioners. I've been wearing glasses since the fourth grade, but now that I am almost 70 the prospect of cataracts has arisen. I am trying to heal my eyes using nutrition and exercise, but in the meantime I need new glasses. Recently, I visited Dr. MICHAEL HOYT of ARTISAN EYEWEAR in Ashland, where I received the most thorough exam I've ever had from an eye doctor. He has all the newest (amazing) equipment, and I felt totally taken care with regard to my eyesight.
