I wanted to love my whole experience, I really did. Everyone working there were such amazing individuals with funky personalities that matched their lovely seafoam mermaid colored store. Tea was especially supportive since it was my first time dying my hair in such massive quantity and I definitely appreciated the positive vibes. Don't get me wrong, my hair color looks amazing for what it is and I'm getting so many compliments on it and it feels amazing (really soft), but the color wasn't what I wanted. Although I'd still like to thank Karli and Tommy for their efforts. I spent some time researching different salons and ended up picking Sirens (even though they were about an hour away from home) because it looked like they specialized in wild colors and I saw photos and testimonies of people whom had dyed their hair black or came with natural dark hair walk away looking fresh AF with vibrant colors of green/turquoise color. I originally wanted a mint/seafoam green, but I knew that might be hard to achieve with my dark brown hair so I was willing to settle for turquoise (like Sailor Neptune) as the darkest shade I was willing to go. I booked an appointment with Karli and got there bright and early as they opened. I showed her pictures of how I wanted my hair colored and what color I wanted. I don't know anything about hair coloring so I placed my full trust in them. I guess I should've said something when I saw the blue that they were putting on after the bleaching process, it was like a primary blue color. It wasn't my color and my gut also told me that it was going to come out more blue than I wanted, but I also gave them the benefit of the doubt since I'm no hair colorist. I assumed the yellow of the bleached hair was going to mix and counterbalance the blue and turn it into a shade of green or something. I was so wrong. LOL. After Tommy applied the color, let it set and washed and blow dried my hair, it was straight up BLUE. I couldn't help but looked dejected and Tommy asked if something was wrong and I told him this wasn't exactly the color I wanted and I was expecting it to be more green. Kristen and Tea immediately asked what was the original color I wanted and realized that my hair wasn't bleached enough for mint, but did reassure me that the blue will wash out a bit and turn a more green color. That only made me feel a little better. Though they said they could fix it that day, but I was running out of time since my boyfriend had to go to work (we came in one car) and I was there for 4 hours already. I told them I can always just come back another time, but still walked out a little bummed especially when the whole thing cost me $260.00 for a color I didn't want. :/ I loved the quality, but the whole reason I came was the color factor, wanted mint/turquoise but walked out with blue hair (amazing nonetheless) instead. read more

I don't know why it's taken me so long to write a review, but here I am. I came to Sirens Salon for the first time in August 2014 and never looked back. Tea has been doing my hair since then. Now, I'd like to point out a few things first: I grew up in a tiny European town where seeing colored hair was rare, let alone finding a hairstylist that was actually willing and experienced enough to do it. I wanted crazy rainbow hair since I was 11, but never found anyone who wanted to do it for me (they all said it would "ruin my hair forever" or whatever, or they were going to charge me an arm and leg just to do highlights). So I started dyeing my hair by myself, which worked out fine... But having really thick hair, it was also a pain. Then I moved to California and decided to try out a salon, hoping for the best. I found Sirens here on Yelp and not gonna lie, I was a bit skeptical at first, maybe even scared. I had short hair at the time, dyed black a month prior (had to make it look "normal" for a family function). I walked into Sirens asking for green hair, and I didn't really expect it to happen, but it did. Tea bleached, dyed and cut my hair exactly the way I wanted it. And the price, while not super cheap, was reasonable for the quality of the work. I was hooked. Plus everyone there is always so friendly and sweet! The salon itself is small, quaint, clean and colorful. I love it. I always feel warm and fuzzy when I walk in. Since then I came back multiple times over the past (almost) 2 years, and I've never had any complaints. They did multiple shades of green on me, then pink and purple, then just hot pink, then blue and purple. Last time I went, I got blue/purple/pink extensions. I've had them in for about 3 months and I'm in love with them, they look absolutely gorgeous. I'm kinda sad that I'll have to take them out this week. Their extensions are braided in so they don't use any weird chemicals and they aren't bad for your scalp. Oh, Sirens also uses veggie dyes and the stuff is apparently really good for your hair (yay!). I was excited to see walk-ins welcome because you can tell a lot from a salon by walking in. And then you have the option to walk right back out LOL but I didn't! Everything about this place is amazing. I've been here a couple of times, with different stylists and have SERIOUSLY never gotten a bad haircut. Plus, everyone who works here is both cool and nice, which helps pass the time! I love cool hair colors (you know, bright unnatural ones) but never wanted to bleach my hair and hate maintenance. Solution: they sell extensions in crazy colors! And they're not crazy expensive, so you can indulge in some fun colors and then get them taken out when you have to go to a business meeting or whatever (I do not have that problem, though.) I admired my haircut for DAYS after, and was all sad when I had to wash it. It still looks good, even with my low maintenance sleep-on-it-wet habit. And my colored extensions get compliments and I get to feel all cool all the time now. :-) Love, love love! Like Michelangelo released the lion from the stone, so Jacquie released the flapper in my hair. Other salons offer schlumpy styles for bloated prices. The only thing Sirens is bloated with is cuteness! Jacquie gave me the cartoonish, but classy, bob I've been dreaming of ever since I first saw the opening credits of Mystery! on PBS. Let me preface by saying that the hair I got wasn't what I wanted, but I didn't leave with terrible looking hair that made me cry (and that's happened before at other salons, so there's that). Everyone is friendly enough, but honestly I just couldn't get into the conversations my stylist was having with the other stylists. I also couldn't stand that they all smoke right out front and leave the door wide open so it all blows back into your face while you're sitting waiting on your hair to lighten/color/etc. I personally hate it, but if it doesn't bother you, then this is a non-issue. I asked for rose gold and was told on the phone prior to my appt that it would be possible, despite me having near-black hair. I would later come to find that it is in fact NOT possible to lighten from dark brown to rose gold in one go, as I suspected from the start. I also asked for a balayage. I did, to the salon's credit, have semi-permanent dye in some of my dark hair that didn't show up until it had started to lighten. So that's my bad. But I was told it wouldn't be a problem, it just required a little more work & time. What I ended up with was kind of messy attempt at a balayage that does not blend well. My ends stayed the dyed color I had before we started. I have some noticeable areas where it wasn't lightened to match the surrounding areas and so I have horizontal streaks of my natural color dispersed between the orange-yellow color my hair ended up as. In the end, my stylist said we could try to lighten or dye more to produce a more pinky-rose gold color, but I'd already sat around for 4~ hours and was frustrated and hungry. So I declined and paid for my haircut. (About $350). I think next time I'll just go back to my regular stylist, despite it being reasonably more expensive there. read more

It was my first time going on to Sirens and months prior before going I knew this was the salon to go to because judging by the pictures they do the colors that are more outrageous ... I go in and everyone immediately greets me even the other clients they had were talking to me. Normally when people see a person in a wheelchair they don't really acknowledge them so when everyone was speaking to me and including me into conversations that really made me feel more comfortable being there. As far as the usual things people look for in a salon, they were clean and very helpful and really showed me that they care about each client they have. And these feather extensions have gotten so popular and I went into Sirens checked them out and I liked 2 feather but they were seperate So I just got them done into one.I paid 20 dollars for 3 freakin feathers a Really small purple,a long black and white,and a all black stale As hell(not managable) I asked the guy if I could straighten them and the dumbass said I couldn't He clearly dosnt know his job cause I can. 2 weeks later the purple feather fell out.! My head hurts so bad cause the dude didn't do it right I have a scab cause that thing is ripping my hair out. DO NOT NOT NOT NOT get the feather done here.! A few blocks down theirs a place called Lunch Box.! They have feather extensions for 25 bucks but you can tell its better quality then Sirens,they keep them in a better condition then sirens not just in a box all together. And I think the guy even got mad cause I didn't tip him.! HA-HA-HA he's stupid.! The whole wash and cut (no dry or style) was over in like 20 minutes, which I thought strange, but decided to give the the stylist the benefit of the doubt. When I got home though, I realized the cut really wasn't even finished - parts were uneven, parts with obvious split ends weren't trimmed, it was pretty bad. I had been in major need of a haircut for a good 9 months, but had been so underwhelmed by my first venture into LA haircuts that I was afraid to even try finding someone else! However, after some divine intervention (ahem, searching on Yelp), I found Sirens. This may seem normal to most yelpers, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that Kristin (the owner/head mermaid) is a former Vain stylist from Seattle! I have been to Vain on more than one occasion, and that alone made me feel more comfortable with making an appointment over there. So, I made a call, booked an appointment and that was that! Night of the appointment comes, and I've managed to get a little lost as usual--so I call the salon to make sure I'm going the right way, and it turns out they accidentally put me down for Friday instead of Tuesday. Kristin and Meredith were gracious enough to take me as more or less as walk-in at last minute! I felt like I had walked into a happy, shiny fishbowl when I got there, and it was just another reason to feel like this could be "my" new salon. The aqua/pink color scheme and the general feel of the salon was relaxing and pretty, rather than snooty and slick like a lot of other salons in the area. I had a pretty definite idea of what kind of cut I wanted, and brought pictures, so Kristin and I went over them before she started cutting. I really liked that she paid attention to what kind of hair I have, and she asked me what kind of products I was using already to keep things consistent. She also taught me how to train my bangs to fall into place correctly, which I should've learned a long time ago, but better late than never! Kristin was absolutely great at making sure I knew how to recreate the look; she also kept double-checking my reference photos to make sure she got as close as possible to my vision (which she did a great job of, by the way!) All in all, I got a great cut for a really reasonable price. Afterwards I went out for my birthday, and I got tons of compliments on how foxy my hair looked! And now, almost a week and a half later, I'm still able to recreate the same look. I've never had a stylist pay so much attention to my hair and make my cut work for what I have. I have been commuting from Santa Monica to Long Beach to get my hair done by someone I was introduced to a couple of years ago. Sirens is officially my new Salon! If you need a makeover, or a totally new look, come here! In a nutshell, they are: Friendly, Reasonably Priced and Super Talented! Here's my experience: Usually I do my haircolor myself, because I am soooo picky, and I think I generally do a good job. But when I decided I wanted to go platinum, I thought that maybe it was time to go to a pro. I went here yesterday after reading all the good reviews on YELP. I got an appointment easily and quickly. I had long layered hair with about 6 different shades of brown in it... and I wanted to go WHITE HOT PLATINUM, like Taylor from the Rachel Zoe Project. I went to 5! other salons for consultations beforehand. All of them tried to convince me to lighten my hair in "stages", highlight only, or told me that I would never be able to do it in one shot, or my hair would fall out. Basically, they treated me like an idiot, or like they had never done a makeover in their lives. Or they told me they could do it, but for $300!!!! What!? But I saw on previous yelp reviews that Sirens was especially good at "rockstar" hair. So I called up Kristin and booked an appointment. (She's the owner of the Salon) I told her exactly what I wanted, and she didn't even flinch- she said no problem, and quoted me a VERY reasonable price for a cut and full color makeover. Once I got there, the experience was great. It's a very small, unpretentious salon right off Melrose near Urban Outfitters, so great location. All the staff was super friendly and laid back. Kristin was friendly, easy to talk to, and didn't insult my hair previous hair color which I'd done myself. She made the whole salon experience very comfortable, low key, and super fun, when usually for me it's long an torturous. And she even put some quarters in my meter for parking! Kristin totally bleached my hair to a beautiful pearly platinum shade easily and fairly quickly, and my hair is still super strong and healthy. Then she gave me a very custom haircut which I love. Side note: If you are going platinum TRUST THE TONER. Immediately after the bleach got washed out, I was nervous about the yellow brassiness, which I was assured would disappear when the toner went on... which it did. So, just trust the toner! So, end result.....WOW, what a makeover!!!! I feel like a brand new girl!!!! And I like going to a Salon again! Thanks Sirens! You're my new favorite Salon! read more

I wanted to get my hair done because we were in a house with rain showers. now rain showers look cool but omg are they horrible at washing hair. I felt like I just had a greasy mess for days. no water pressure! anyway looking on yelp for places right by the house we rented I found this place among a few others. I just had my husband call trying to get me in as I got my makeup done. so I came and it was great :) I know they have those blow dry bars but I wanted a place like this. read more
