I used to go to another shop they own and took my daughter here regularly. A couple/few times my barber canceled very last minute, which was a major inconvenience, but things happen. THEN, I contracted COVID and was unable to make my appointment. Despite canceling on me for whatever reason, and despite being a regular, they charged me! I'm not arguing that businesses shouldn't have policies to prevent losing money and protect an artist's time and income, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I didn't complain, I didn't make an issue, but what I DID do was never go back AND pull my daughter from this salon. Bad business practices and treating not respecting regular clients' time has consequences... Avoid being treated like a number, plenty of better places right down the street. I have never wrote a negative review on Yelp before, but my experience warranted a response... I got my hair cut for the first time ever at The Establishment, and then left the salon for a color appointment across town (I wasn't able to be seen for a cut and color on the same day at the same place). When I arrived to my second hair appointment, I noticed my hair was uneven, so the stylist at the second location straightened my hair only to find how uneven and completely botched the original hair cut was. Thankfully he agreed to fix it. I have never had such an egregiously bad hair cut in my life. It was completely uneven and several chunks of hair were missed. I called the Establishment for a refund and they refused because "I didn't let them fix the hair cut". I don't know who in there right mind would want to return to a salon who completely botched their haircut, let alone put the the time and inconvenience on the customer to drive back across town to get it fixed. I am floored that they didn't just completely refund me given how bad the cut was (and I had the evidence to prove it). I had to get 2 haircuts in the same day, and cut my hair substantially shorter than I wanted given the second stylist had to fix what the first one did. This is a customer-service job, and I find it absolutely appalling the owners didn't immediately refund me. Let this serve as a warning to potential future customers. I wasted $130 on a botched hair cut. I will NEVER return to the Establishment again. read more

Update to respond to owners response: It pains me to say your response is a poor attempt at backpedaling. If you look at time stamp of my Google message to you it's before 1.59pm and I stated I tried calling. So even if you choose to lie, there is photo evidence of me reaching out earlier than your accusation. Also, if your receptionist didn't jot down that I said I would call back to reschedule after getting tested maybe you need to invest in a more robust training program. Not an accusation, Just a logical observation :) At the end of the day the commitments on your website and your actions don't line up and there's no response you can offer that remedies that. Also if you really wanted to balance guest and stylist needs you could've told me over Google chat I can't cancel. Would've taken you two seconds but you chose not to. ------ This review is for the owners, not the stylists who I am sure are lovely people. Beware of the cancellation policy with the current covid climate. A couple months ago I had an appointment for balayage but woke up the day of feeling body aches and malaise. Day went on and I didn't feel better so in the afternoon I called them to see if I could reschedule my appointment - I wasn't sure bc the appt was at 4. Their website mentioned a strict 24 hour cancellation policy but also that they flex for health reasons. No one picked up my call. I reached out on their Google message and chatted w the owner specifically asking "if I can cancel" attempting to understand my options. He said to get in touch w the salon and did not bother to tell me a same day cancellation, even if I am not feeling well, means I will be charged full amount. I kept calling and finally got in touch w someone around 3, explained the situation, and was told no problem I can cancel and call back for reschedule Next thing I know I see a $350 bill on my statement for the full service cost. When I called back they were absolutely unwilling to take the cost off. I even asked if they can apply it as credit bc I'd still be willing to come in and get the service done. They wouldn't budge. I emailed the owner and he said he could give me a paltry discount for my next visit but they were sticking to their policy. Well turns out AmEx credited back the money to me and these guys lost a customer who would have come in regularly for haircuts and color. And they also get a review that exposes their business ethics. read more
