OK, so check it out.... I've been coming to Lawrence to cut my hair for the last 8+ years. For those of you who know me, ya'll know how picky I am about my grooming. I've followed him across three different salons, and he's settled on MUSE Atelier! Super happy. Lawrence is a ROCKSTAR (in more ways than one). I'm one of these kinds of clients who likes to see hair on other people, and want to duplicate that same look. Today, I brought in a picture from the JCREW magazine and asked to have that same haircut. Lawrence took a look at the picture and did exactly what I asked for. He is super amazing - whether it be a short haircut or a "madmen" (long 1950's on top) haircut - he knows what he is doing! I've seen his haircut on all kinds of guys (races) and he knows how to handle hair to make you look your best. (Ladies - he also knows how to give a lady a great haircut also!). ... Speaking about ROCKSTAR - Lawrence is also a rockstar / lead singer from the popular band, The Wayward Sons. If you ask him politely enough, he will belt out some songs while he cuts your hair. Super talented guy! You get it right? He's a musician and he is super in touch with fashion, so he knows how to rock out your hair. Lawrence will also tell you some jokes during your haircut to make you laugh and enjoy the experience. Most of his jokes kinda suck, but I laugh to just make him feel good! (Just kidding!). I drive 45 minutes each way (to & from) to get a haircut from Lawrence. He is THAT good! I also want to mention that I get my manscaping (eyebrows only) by Mayumi. She is a super talented beautician who knows how to clean up a guy's looks without making him look too "sculptured". I have a very sensitive eye area, and oftentimes bruise easily. But Mayumi has always handled me with care and tenderness, and helps me look like a million bucks (at least *I* think so anyways, hahah). She's affordable and super sweet. Her work is the best in the Los Angeles area! Finally, I wanted to mention several more things: ** The salon is CLEAN! ** Everyone here is FRIENDLY and like a family! ** The salon owners are super good to their clients (come'on, wine, softdrinks or iced water in fancy glass cups while you cut your hair?). HOLLAH! ** The receptionist, James, is super nice and will always make your services work within your time schedule. He's hecka funny! ** Other stylists in the salon are just as super talented! I went in for a haircut with Taka. He rushed and hid the bad haircut by styling my hair so I couldn't see what it actually looked like. After washing my hair that night, I could see how horrible the cut was. I contacted him and he told me to come in the next afternoon for a fix. I am so very happy I have found this little gem 3 blocks from my apartment. I just got the most AMAZING 90 minute facial from Mayumi. When she was done with me, I could barely move. I actually wondered if I would be able to walk back home b/c I was so relaxed. The facial included extractions, a peel, the use of an ultrasound machine, and an awesome massage of my back, shoulders, neck, feet and hands. I went in to the salon with crazy hair that was dyed, damaged and uneven. Taka did a little miracle on my hair. We lifted it to a really light blonde, cut and dyed with a subtle metallic rose color. It's so soft and healthy! I visited this place because I bought a deal on livingsocial. It was a deluxe mani pedi for $35 when it is originally $75, what a steal, right? The deluxe package is a 75-minute mani pedi with a light massage and warm towels. For such a fabulous sounding package, it disappointed me. Jessica was my manicurist and to my disappointment, it was not 75 minutes long. She did not introduce herself, was not too friendly, and was quick, but that's not what I paid for. I also had a hard time choosing a polish color from the shelf and she did not mention that there was a bigger selection on a table across the room. However, the light massage felt nice, even though it was also very quick. As a side note: french polish is additional $1 per finger, but that's understandable. Naomi (I forgot her name but its something close to that) did a better job. She worked on my friend and was more through with her work. My friend enjoyed her treatment and nail color (because she was sitting next to the additional selection of polish!). I probably wouldn't go back to this place for a regular priced mani pedi but the Bliss package sounds really nice, if you're willing to spend $110. I've been coming to Monica May ever since I decided to up my hair game from buzz-wuts and Supercuts. I started seeing her at her old salon down Melrose. The new place is a little easier to find and the staff is super friendly. I'm always greeted with an offer for water or coffee. It's a cool little boutique and I feel all hip-like when I walk in. As for Monica's cut, it's the best men's haircut I've ever had. A little pricier than a chain barber but you most definitely get what you pay for. Hooks it up on the shampoo and errthang. All my bros with fashion game go there. I just got my NYE haircut and it's major suave. Every time I get my haircut I say, "Ok this is the best haircut ever," and I'm doing it again today. It's a cool warehouse type salon, that plays great music and has really interesting art on the walls by local artists. There is free parking in the back! Courtney is amazing! She has been doing my highlights and cut for 2 years, and my hair always looks fabulous! I work in the film industry, and always receive compliments in the hair trailer about how natural my highlights look! Szilvi the aesthetician at Muse is the only good thing about this place. I booked a mini european facial and was called by the receptionist and asked to post-pone to a later date due to some scheduling issues-- and was offered an hour-long facial along with a manicure as an apology. I was stunned by how nice that was-- so considerate? THINK AGAIN. Neither of these ever happened. When I came the following week for my "hour-long" facial, the poor aesthetician (who again, is absolutely amazing and does not deserve to work with such foul management at MUSE) had no idea what I was talking about. She works independently of the rest of the Salon--the receptionist had no business making false promises without consulting with her. I ended up doing the hour-long facial anyway and gladly paid for it. When I came out, the manicurist had gone home and when I inquired-- was told in a somewhat "annoyed" manner by the receptionist, that I would have to come back the following week. I had never asked for the manicure or the hour-long facial, I was OFFERED. It is bad business to promise and not deliver. When I attempted to return for the manicure, I was told by phone that this would no longer be honored. Thank you Muse. They treat you like a dollar sign and are disorganized and crude. AVOID. I will not step foot in there again and will tell all of my friends the same. read more

This review is for the massage service only and not for the grooming services... I had bought my wife a Yelp deal for a one hour massage. The deal was primarily for her but she had coaxed me into doing a doubles massage at the same time and for $39 for my portion I thought it was a good deal. Now, I hardly ever indulge in myself in this way; I can count the number of times that I've personally had a massage on one hand, but I agreed since I was her ride and she said: "Well what else are you going to do, sit around for a hour?..." Setting up the appointment was easy. We spoke to Adam (?) over the phone and he was there to greet us when we arrived for a late Saturday afternoon appointment. We were offered mineral water and a clipboard to sign the usual waivers, but also to indicate on the diagram where you would like the masseuse to concentrate on. I was tight around the lower gluts and hams and the upper traps and rhomboids; my masseuse Jorge took a look at my diagram which had circles all over and sort of had a puzzled look on his face like wtf? He also asked what degree of pressure we wanted for our Swedish massages and I wanted something Goldilocks like in the middle... The room where the tables were setup was fine for a single massage but I thought it was a little tight for a double. Wifey had the regular massage table whereas I had the portable. After disrobing, we laid on our respective tables under the sheets, having a brief Shavasana like respite under the dim lighting and soft Zen like music. That was when the relaxation came to an end... Jorge proceeded to give me a massage experience that was not unlike Anthony Bourdain's Uzbekistanian massage with his friend Zamir. I mostly jest, but I felt like I was being pressed really hard, nearly to the point of pain. The portable table was shaking and creaking like I was being worked over by a whore. I wanted to cry out but didn't because I didn't want to sound like a pussy, Ow! He dug into me with his fingers during the massage as if I was in for a rending. All the while a few feet away, I didn't hear a peep from the Mrs. and her masseuse Mayumi who I assume was doing a gentler job. The kicker was at the end when Jorge did a karate chop action all over my hams and back, pulverizing me like a piece of meat; wifey later admitted that she almost broke out in laughter... After the massage, wifey told me that she had read a review from Anna B. that said that Jorge was rough and left scratches on her. I just had to know what my back looked like when we got home... Rawr!.... dude left scratches on me like he was Wolverine or something... "oh you poor thing..." she lamented; sigh... Wifey was somewhat satisfied with her massage but admitted that the experience wasn't as luxurious as getting a spa treatment at some of the places that she has been. The back alley parking and generally sketchy entry in the back leaves us with a less than savory impression. And before anyone rolls up on me, I want to reitterate that I have not had very many massages before, and that I actually fell asleep during one a long time ago. I like to give salons the benefit of the doubt. Muse Atelier had rave reviews so I decided to visit to get my highlights touched up. I'm sad to report there is nothing good about this salon. Issues: - Poor customer service (good luck getting them to answer the phone) - Sub-par salon (looked like a train wreck) - Employees could use a lesson in how to treat their clients (greeting, interaction) - Need more training (don't advertise someone as a specialist when they barely know what they're doing) I asked if they did balayage highlights and they said yes and referred me to a specialist named Liz. I was able to get in same day which thrilled me! I parked and went in through the back, which wasn't anything to show off. It was a wreck. Granted they were going through some construction, however this place looks as if it's been ransacked. Nothing to compliment like some of these reviews. Instead of standing to greet me and introduce me to the place as a new client, the stylist and colorist on hand were both sitting in their chairs, lounging and eating. I introduced myself as a new client and my colorist, Liz, did not stand to greet me. She finished eating her cookie and then moved me the chair she wanted to work on. She was acting kind of weird but I figured she was just shy. I showed her a picture of Sarah Jessica Parker because a) that was the hue I wanted and b) she gets balayage highlights. I've had balayage plenty of times so I knew what I was looking for. I also told her I had grown out my base to use as a lowlight and had spent months to do this. She communicated well and I felt comfortable. So she gets started. This is when I knew things were going to go downhill. Balayage is a precise technique that makes it look natural and unprecise; however, she was sloppily grabby large chunks of hair to paint. They were all blending together and color got on my face a few times. She also was talking to me about the rather inappropriate subject of walking in on her nephew pleasuring himself. After the painting was done, she put me under the dryer and proceded to forget about me -- the dryer turned off and I sat there a good 10 minutes without any heat/without her noticing. Once she did come over, she advised me to go to the sink so we could wash. While washing, she toned my hair -- not something I asked for, but I figured if the color of the dye was too yellow that perhaps she was trying to make it warmer or cooler. However, when I got back in the chair, I knew I was going to be unhappy: my hair was RED. Does SJP have red hair? Was my hair originally red? NO. Liz even mentioned that it looked "all one color" aka strawberry blonde. I ended up paying, tipping and leaving, hoping the lighting in the salon was terrible. I realized after the fact that she had toned my hair with red toner to hide the fact that my highlights had bled. I took some pics to send my mom and my friends and they advised me I needed to get it fixed or get a refund. I'd worked at luxury salons for years so I knew what I was looking for. I called several times without an answer (another issue: I had to call three times because anyone would answer to book my appt.) and finally decided to email, which in turn got me an immediate phone call. Long story short, they did try to get me to come back by offering to redo it, however Liz informed me that she "wasn't focusing" on my hair and wanted to take another stab at it. I bluntly told her no and asked for the manager, who then informed me they couldn't get anyone to fix my hair. I got a refund for my service and my tip. Needless to say it's ridiculous that a stylist/colorist would not be focused on their client's hair -- hair is something that requires precision and care. Muse needs to get it together regarding their front desk, their technique and their customer service skills. I consider myself a decently realistic customer. I bought the livingsocial coupon for $29 and I thought I'd get something somewhat worth the cost. I usually stick to the places that are low twenties for a mani pedi. Unfortunately, I'll put it this way- the first thing I did when I got home was take off my nail polish. The salon was easy to find and parking in the back made things easy. I sat down for a manicure and it was the worse mani I have ever had. I didn't get injured, hence the two stars, but nine out of ten nails has these air bubbles that the technician just "couldn't see" and when she "fixed" it she just slapped on more polish. The polish was so thick that the polish got smudged off when putting on a hair clip (just now) two hours after my nails were done. Seriously, this is even worse than having an overexciting junior high girl experimenting on my nails. The pedicure was bleah. The water wasn't warm and the "scrub" was lackluster. The toes look all right, but I'm planning to go somewhere else to fix my nails- they might as well do my toes too. The chair was fun to sink down into, but when I was supposed to put my feet up I would slide down. I felt like I was doing some weird yoga pose in trying to keep my knees up and my butt from sliding down. Seriously speaking, this is the very worst mani pedi I have ever had in my life. For the next week i got so many complements on my skin, and i look more refreshed then ever. She really took her time to explain what she was doing, why i needed that and how my skin will be different, and she was right. I won a beauty passport during a holiday party for a condition treatment, haircut, facial and makeup application. I finally went in to cash in the passport, and L-L-Loved Muse Atelier! Don't let the name make you think it's a pretentious kind of spot. No way. Everyone here is so friendly! I came here with some girlfriends, and we all got our hair done and some of us got our makeup done too. I scheduled my facial for another time. Spending so much time there that day, I could totally tell it was such a great atmosphere and vibe here. It was clear to me that everyone that works here likes each other and has a good time. Everyone had fun with great conversation and laughter. I had my hair cut by Michelle and face done by Atticus, the owner. Michelle is kinda spacy, but hey... she's an artiste! We had a lot of fun gabbing too, and she explained everything she was doing. I'm pretty much simple with my hair, but asked Michelle to funk it up a bit, but not too much. She could have gone crazy, but was completely respectful of what I wanted. I have A LOT of coarse, thick Chinese hair with a funky natural wave in the back. Michelle passed my test in layering my hair to thin it down and give it movement without giving me a mullet. I loved what she did with my hair, but I have to mention that when she was using the blades of the scissors to thin down my mane, she was a little rough. Not sure if it's because the scissors weren't sharp enough or if she's not used to the Asian hair. I still liked how things came out though. When Michelle was done, I went over to Atticus' makeup chair. He was nothing less than amazing. He gave me pointers along the way and used his own makeup line - Muse. It was so light and felt so good on my skin, and I looked flawless and amazing afterward, if I do say so myself :) The best was the mascara he used. It's called Blinc. I call it a miracle in a little tube. I have stick straight, short stubby eyelashes. Blinc gave me lashes! I mean... lashes! It's magic! I had to buy a tube right then and there. At the end of the makeup application, I still looked like me, but oh so much better! Atticus gave me samples of foundation to take home with me. I'm going back next week for my facial. I can't wait! The salon is like the happiest place ever. It's a very glamorous yet zen kind of space. Glamorous but definitely down to earth. Oh yea... there's parking behind the building in the alley. I agree 100% with Jenny T! I also did the living social deal for $35, which seemed like a great deal since the regular cost is $75! Upon entering I was very impressed with the salon, I was offered a glass of wine (1 star), friendly receptionists, and overall pretty cool atmosphere. All was good until it was my turn for the mani/pedi. They don't really have a great area for this, it seems like they maybe just started this business? They placed my friend and I in a random back room that looked pretty uninviting after being in the cool other space... I get mani/pedi's every once in a while, I mean, im not a regular, but I definitely know what is expected in a good mani/pedi. I mean #1 requirement for a good pedi is a spa chair...hello?!! This place does not have a spa chair, just letting you know that if you are paying $75, you should be sitting in a spa chair... The manicurist/pedicurist that I had was also pretty darn unfriendly and not very gentle (in fact she sliced my toe with the nail file, pretty much making it impossible to wear shoes without brutal pain for 3 days)!! The only enjoyable part was the hot towels that gets wrapped around your feet. The other star is for that.... I would not come back to this place for a mani/pedi, but I would however maybe get a haircut or facial here because the space is appealing. read more

WORST WORST WORST "SPA"mani/pedi it doesnt even deserve a star! it had been a stressful month and my boyfriend decided to give me and my best friend a gift from living social to get a mani/ pedi at Muse. my friend and I were excited to go. the lady who did my nails was Nadya, she was so MEAN, RUDE, and I felt unwelcome. i thought it was because i was not her typical client you know "rich looking" with her nice nails. so she made the rudest remarks at my cuticles and she kept saying "shame on you" IS SHE FOR REALS?!?! later she asked me where i worked, when i told her she made another remark about my nails. SO WHAT?!?! why did i have to tell her my life story why my nails haven't been done geez! it didnt even have a Spa chair, and it was not a spa treatment. the JOB THEY DID I COULD HAVE DONE AT HOME! then when the pedi came i had a broken nail, and she asked what happened i cant believe i went through it UGH! i told her i was wearing open heels and someone stepped on me and broke it...she smiled (as if i was lying) and nod her head with disbelief. after she was done i was sitting there waiting for my friend, Nadya later told me i could leave whenever i wanted. of course i know lady im wating for my friend! when i talked to my friend she said she had a HORRIBLE experience too. we were so upset we left and didnt even leave tips. the one star is for the gentlemen who offered me water. thank you but i was going to drink more at the end but that bitch Nadya took it when i was waiting for my friend. read more

(She seems to work independently from the Salon itself, so make sure to seek her out specifically when calling.) Szilvia is not only kind & genuine in personality, but extremely skilled and knowledgable with her treatment and craft. After only one session, my head was brimming with new and helpful information about my skin - the largest organ of the body! She is passionate about her work, medically-trained and tailors your experience for a working resolve of any and all skin issues. Of course, I ask a lot of questions when I have a beauty concern and am getting treatment for it, but you don't have to. The facial massage is also a lovely time of relaxation and silence broached by true serenity. Just breathe and enjoy or - conversation is welcome! Either way Szilvia provides the opposite of what could be an invasive and embarassing experience. You will leave with an absolute glow and a proactive attitude about your personal skincare. As for the salon - MUSE - itself, I have not yet tried it, but was greeted warmly and was immediately provided with a cool beverage. Now I've been a client of her for 7 years! She's very precise and talented. I'm very happy with her work from the start, I especially LOVE her facial massage! Such a realxing and pleasant treatment, amazing aromas and gentle healing hands. I tend to fall asleep.. :) She's passionate about her profession, highly trained and a qulified asthetitian who also gives special care and education to her clients. During these years I watched her grow and expand her palette. Besides facials, lash tinting, chemical peels I recently tried for a microdermabrasion session and will go for a series. Loved the results, my skin was just glowing! I found her new salon at Muse Attelier pretty cool and welcoming. She always listens to what I want, makes suggestions when needed , but ultimately makes sure I walk away with what I asked for. I have always had bad experiences with other stylists who have you walk away with what "they" think you should want. Courtney is a pro and has sealed my loyalty as a customer. Szilvia, the aesthetician rocks as well. She is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to skin. Your first consultation with her, includes extensive questioning on diet and lifestyle habits. She is not only interested in providing a great facial but in making her clients aware on the day to day care which is the key to having great skin. Alma, the nail technician, is great too. I think her best quality besides her skill, is her aim to please. Tell her what you want and she will do it. Ok, NO STARS!! Why can't I give NO STARS!?! Awful salon! Looks very runned down and in the middle of construction? It looks unfinished, or haphazardly put together to say the least. Now, not only is it unappealing to look at, but the customer service is foul! A friend and I came for a cut (and manicure for her) and the work is absolutely substandard. My hair style is as easy as it gets in my opinion. Just a fade on the sides and piece-y on top. I've paid up to $70 at other salons for this cut and I've definitely experienced better. Not necessarily bad here, but just blah... the fade was not the cleanest (some parts I still saw lines). Could have saved going to supercuts with the same style. Also seemed kinda rushed, maybe she was just overbooked? Now, my friend's experience was much worse. The manicure was HORRENDOUS (as others have stated). Awful polish application, with some of the creases of skin having polish also. Really? Her haircut was also awful. She wanted an A-line bob and she looked like the little Dutch boy on the paint cans! Ech, she tried to have the stylist shorten the back a bit compared to the front but it just couldn't be saved. The front was cut too short already. Her stylist was nice about it and was apologetic that she wasn't happy, but still charged full price. Hmmm. Now the worst part. When she tried to complain and speak with the manager, she was told he wasn't available. No card, nothing to get a hold of him. She called a few days later and actually got a hold of him miraculously. She wasn't nasty about her complaint, was just letting him know she was unhappy with the results, especially the manicure, which she took pictures of to document and show him. He was absolutely NOT helpful. Aticus (his name) seemed indifferent and pretty much said she can go elsewhere if she wasn't satisfied. All he needed to say was he was sorry she wasn't happy. She wasn't looking for anything, just a little sympathy and he was simply an A-hole! Never apologized or asked to give them a second chance, just dismissed her! Now I see why this place stinks, it comes straight from the manager/owner! We were able to overlook the awful manicure and styling because at least the stylists were sort of pleasant. But what really put it over the edge was the manager!! Sucky attitude! AVOID!!!! Plenty of other competent salons who deserve your business! read more

GREAT service...GREAT! I came here with my Living Social voucher...and they were so friendly! After reading the recent reviews, I was very skeptic on how well of an experience I would have. As I sat down, one of the guys brought a plate of cookies, pretzels, tea, and water for me to enjoy while I was getting my pedicure! Naomi did the mani/pedi, and she was so gentle and friendly! She took her time with the massages which felt amazing!!! The only reason why it's lacking a star is because I wasn't too thrilled about the nail color...I got a dark gray for my toes which I LOVED, but as for my fingers...i chose a sheer nude color...there were a few streaks and blotches that revealed my nails underneath. A third coat would have done the trick but... All in all, great experience. Ask for Naomi!! read more

Finally a hair stylist who can turn really dark hair into a beautiful caramel with golden highlights...think Carmen Electra locks. This is the second time I've gone and second time I love my hair....so NOT a fluke....which is so often the case. If you are one of the many girls I see with that orange hue in your hair make an appt with Elizabeth Valadez stat! She will hook you up. Her hair cuts are beautiful too, they grow in really well, which is great for someone like me who always waits way too long to get back to the salon. So get your brassy heads down there and say hello to Liz for me...she's the tall gorgeous one! read more

My favoritest hairstylist Amie has moved over here from Purple Circle, so where the shears go I will follow. From the outside it seems like a small storefront, with a sign that says "beauty bar" but inside the calming atmosphere and decor is reminiscent of a hair salon you might find in South Beach. I don't know if it has just opened but that is still the feeling I get when I go see Amie -- there's a bit of "unfinished" going on so that is how I am going to leave my review until I get a better feeling for this place. I wish I could just review szilvia the esthetician and not the salon as a whole because she works independently and is way better than the salon itself. I have gotten a few mani/pedis there with a few different nail technicians and a hair cut and a massage hoping this could become my new full time salon but all of those were not up to par. Szilvia however, is amazing. She is the best esthetician I have ever had and spends so much time on extractions its pretty painful but 100% worth it. I can rub nice creams on my own face at home in front of the TV for cheaper thank you very much, but I have no idea how to get all that gunk out of my pours and that is where she spends most of her time. TIP- free parking in back. its tight though so don't park like an asshole stay between those lines. read more

I've been coming to see Courtney for 5 years. She is on point with my cut and color. She has never steered me wrong and doesn't BS me about my hair. My hair is difficult because its SUPER fine. Others have fried it and forced ugly cuts on me. She has never. I wont let anyone else touch my hair. I bring my daughter to her as well. This studio is super clean and i love wine wednesday! Maybe go here for your hair!??! Not for a mani/pedi!! There's nothing worse, than getting someone who is sweet at first, but then doesn't say a word to you for the next hour. Also, that doesn't take the time to even give you a hand or foot massage? My lifebooker coupon said it was a value of over $50...mmmmm..don't think so. The mani/pedi was so rushed, and I literally had sticky clear gloss at the crease of all my nails. Lastly, they don't have real pedicure chairs, so you're sitting in this chair with a pillow, and it was so uncomfortable. I had to truly hold myself up the entire time she was doing my feet. I haven't been to Muse Atelier yet, but I'm pretty certain I will never ever be there! After having a horrible experience trying to call for appointments, I'm done. And my appointment is not something out of this world... just a time that my friend and I can have our mani/pedi together on any week day late afternoon from now until October (we're not in a hurry to have it done), either they didn't have the staff to do it for us at the same time, or they were just plain rude. They were obviously careless to get new customers. Whatever the reason that is (lack of staff? lack of training?), they have no customer service mind! With the price that they charge, this is totally not what I expect! Actually, regardless of the price they charge, customers deserve to be treated better than this. If Yelp! allows me to give a ZERO star, that would be more accurate from me. read more

Where to start? They were 10 minutes late getting started. The "deal" is $35 off the regularly priced $60 pedi-mani - but it's an ongoing deal - so really it's just $35. It was near impossible to get an appointment because they only have one or two nail people working. They told us they could only take one, but I'm literally sitting her watching the other lady read a book. Save the headache and go to a regular nail salon. I'm so incredibly torn. I love and hate this place. I first visited Muse Atelier three weeks ago because I had purchased a $30 LivingSocial deal for the manicure-pedicure. I decided to upgrade at the suggestion of the woman doing my nails (her name was Jenny) to the gel polish, which I had never tried. Jenny did a fabulous job. Over three weeks later, and my polish has not chipped until today, and only on one finger. My hands and nails have looked gorgeous for three weeks. But here's the bad part. I called today to schedule an appointment to come in at some point in the next three days. If you've never had gel polish, you need to know that you really can't take it off at home, and this is my first time trying it. So now that it's chipping, I need to have someone take it off. But when I called in I was told that they were booked for the next four days. I explained that I really just needed someone to take off the polish for me, or at least tell me how to do it myself, or even direct me to another place that could do this for me since I have an event to be at in a few days. But nobody could help me. The person working there wouldn't give me any advice, and even said he didn't have any idea how it comes off, and although he said he would give Jenny a message and ask her to call me and help me get this polish off, nobody ever called me back. I tried calling one more time--same story. So, like I said, Jenny did a fabulous job on the manicure, but this salon's follow through is really awful. Someone please just help me get this bright pink paint off my nails. read more

I went for a mani/pedi last weekend. Not sure how I feel about this salon. I walked in and everyone was sort of awkward, no one really greeted me...then I got passed on to my manicurist. She didn't seem all into the job and again was pretty awkward. The mani/pedi itself was mehhh...I've had better and cheaper! Plus side: they use fresh bowls of water for each pedi so you're not sticking your feet in some cesspool of germs in those half cleaned pedi tubs that most places have... But truly the experience was not much different from any little manicure shop you'd find anywhere else in LA Probably won't return unless I get another coupon on LivingSocial or Groupon. $$$ read more

It's really really really scary to test out salons when you move to a new city. Hair is a big deal. Especially when you intend to spend over $75. I moved from San Francisco where there are some amazing hair salons (like Edo & Di Pietro Todd) and since being here I've tried 4 different salons in LA. All overpriced bad cuts. I made an appointment and hoped for the best. I have asian hair, and was looking to get a short and fashion forward style that would be very easy to maintain. Courtney was my stylist. Courtney was spot on! She listened carefully to what I wanted. I showed her some pictures. We talked about how to alter the style to accommodate the idiosyncracies of my hair and an hour later, I walked out with an incredible asymmetrical style! read more

If I could give 50 stars I would. Sylvya is freaking incredible. When ARIANNA HUFFINGTON stops you to ask you who did your hair, you know you have a great stylist. Yep. Ari stopped me at an event recently to find out who did my hair. That guy that gave her 1 star is....crazy! Other stylists made my hair look green, the S makes my color and cut look..fabulous. Sylvya has been doing my hair for on camera and life for 2 years. I get one of her blow outs just about every week without fail. Monica May @ Muse is incredible. When I moved to L.A. after living in the same city my whole life (with the same hair dresser for more than 10 years) I was freaking out about going to someone new. Monica not only did a perfect job, but actually outdid my previous stylist, giving me color/toner that is always beyond beautiful, and grows out very naturally. She then actually listened to me when I asked for her to TRIM my hair! Note: I say this because a lot of stylists think a trim means 3-5 inches, or whatever they think you need. Monica does what you request, and being the lengthorexic I am, this is VERY important. Needless to say, she has been doing my hair for the past 5 years, and I say you NEED to go to her above anyone else, because she is that life changing. Really reasonable prices too. I finally found a good hair salon in LA! Well, that's a lie. I found a great one already, years ago: Privé, where my friend would do my hair beautifully... for the ridiculous sum of $120... Yeah, I'm a guy. I don't think I need $120 hair cuts, especially considering that at the time, my hair was incredibly short... Anyway, along comes Muse, Chane specifically, who does wonders with my now much more luscious chevelure. I would not trade the experience for anything, from the chit chat to the actual cut, and the price is simply great. The atelier is pretty, large in size and welcoming, with an interesting rotating collection of art on the walls. Obviously pristine clean (I would not even consider going otherwise), and the new receptionist is adorable. So, that's that. Go there. read more
