Got my husband a gift card last year for Christmas for foot recovery pedicure + a $20 tip. Was told it came with a complimentary drink which I thought would be a great idea for my husband, that could have changed in the past couple months so okay. One of my husbands foot looks like it was given a pedicure and the other does not. My husband was told that the gift card only had $78 not a big deal it still covered the pedicure and for a tip. I have been a Sir Spa customer for the last several years, primarily for their massage services. This time around I wanted to try something new, so I decided to give their manicure service a shot. The appointment was very easily booked through the "Appointments" tab on their website - actually, I was very impressed with how quickly they responded. So, that process was painless! Seeing as this is a new experience for me at Sir Spa, I walked in the door excited for my appointment. This is where we will start with the downhill slide of my review... I was about 30 minutes early for my appointment seeing as my commute went a lot faster than planned. When I checked in with the receptionist, I kindly informed him that I was "very early" and was about to suggest that I go get some coffee and come back when he politely interjected and said to please take a seat, the nail technician (whose name I will keep private out of respect) will be right with you. Hmm... okay, perhaps I will be able to start early. Nope. While I understand that I was early if you insist on keeping the client there waiting, at the very least offer them a bottle of water. That's just good customer service. Moving on to the actual manicure. I sat down in a fairly comfortable seat with a nice view out to Clark Street (I love people watching, so this was perfect). I politely informed the nail technician that it had been quite some time since my last manicure due to scheduling issues and that my hands would not be in the best state. Generally, when I say this to a manicurist, they are polite and say, in some way, "that is what we are here for". Much to my surprise, this is when the lecture began! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I'm sorry, but I am paying you to help me NOT give me a ten-minute lecture on how awful my hands are and how whatever it was I was doing was wrong. Baffled by this, we spent the next fifteen minutes in an awkward silence when I finally was able to make polite conversation for the rest of the manicure. Just when I thought I was in the clear, the lecture resumed. She repeated everything from the first half of the lecture followed by how I need to come in one week from today regardless of what my schedule was like because "we are open until 9". I understand you are passionate about your job and that you want to help people out, but this is not the way to go about doing so. Had you made polite conversation with me and slipped suggestions politely into said conversation, that would have been completely different. However, I do not appreciate being scolded like a little boy in an adult atmosphere that should be relaxing. Because of this, I will not continue (or recommend) any nail services at Sir Spa. My whole experience left me both befuddled and disappointed. Lastly, a bit of constructive observation: I would recommend that the management does a deep clean of their facility. During the awkward silence of my manicure, I noticed several areas that needed to be dusted badly, organized, and/or repaired. Your facility has so much potential and I have seen it in its prime... I've gone to Sir Spa for some time now and every visit has been great except for this one. I went in for a scheduled foot detail and there was no one there to do it. I accept a mistake was made but all that was done was I was told I wouldn't be charged for that appointment. For the inconvenience I should've been offered a foot detail on them. I had a terrible experience today. Basically I was stood up. I took the afternoon, drove over and parked. I waited 20 minutes past my scheduled massage time and then had to go inquire myself what was going on. The employee who went to check came back a full 5 minutes later and said that my therapist wasn't there but they could have another there in 15-20 minutes. He added, "In my opinion the new one is much better." So, I was going to have a mediocre therapist? I no longer had time for my massage, so I left. On my way out the door he told me he'd put a $20 credit on my account. Today was my first trip to Sir Spa in a year, and since the new owners took over. I purchased the Valentine's Day special for me and my boyfriend...two one-hour massages for $150. A few things. My boyfriend had visited Sir Spa in the past, so he was in their database. They asked if I wanted them to send him a reminder email about the appointment. I said no, since it was a surprise. Well, on Saturday, the day before our appointment, they sent him a reminder email. There went the surprise. I wasn't thrilled about that, but not a huge deal. Next, we checked in, changed, sat in the steam room for awhile, and about 10 minutes before our appointments, we wanted to do the "sit in our robes" thing in the lounge chairs and sip on tea. Y'know, the whole "zen" experience. When we walked to that area, all of the chairs were taken. I had never experienced that before. I would assume they would schedule appointments so that wouldn't happen. We went back into the locker room and I rang the buzzer for assistance. I asked if there was somewhere else to wait. We were escorted upstairs to the front room. My boyfriend and I sat in leather chairs, right next to a guy getting a manicure, overlooking busy, cold Clark St. So much for the "zen" experience. It just felt awkward sitting in robes and watching a guy get a mani. Onto the massages. Mine was very good. My boyfriend said his was OK. I finished first, and was told the package I purchased meant I got a glass of wine. Awesome. When I met my boyfriend in the lounge area with a glass of wine, his hands were empty. He was not offered a glass of wine. After that, we showered, dressed and went home. Overall, not an awful experience, but less than what I've experienced in the past. When I arrived at the EMPTY location he was on the phone calling other clients with reminder calls!!! Talk about no sense of priorities, customer service, common f-ing courtesy. When he finally took me to the change area he so quickly and poorly explained the electronic locker system, where I was to wait for my massage etc that I couldn't even run to follow him out. Oh but I'll finish with him later... So I find my way to the "calming area" which is about as calming as waiting area at a hair salon. No ambiance just magazines and green tea. Woo-hoo. The pedicurist was nice, but unpolished and amateurish. I almost felt bad for her until she mentioned that I shouldn't go to "those Oriental places" because they all use razors. Um ok! So, was it worth 40-whatever? No. But whatever. On to the massage.. The "deep tissue" massage by David was so bad I left early! Why? It was all oil and simple rubbing. There was zero technique. I contacted the state's attorney general, and I encourage others to do so, because everything I read states that their rules are completely illegal. Shysters! I received a gift certificate for Sir Spa, after 6-months the owners decided to nullify all outstanding gift certificates, accepting only 50% of the face value. I argued with the staff, but the attitude was "tough luck, take it or leave it"! I took my partner for a spa to celebrate his birthday and ultimately gave the gift of laughter as we recounted our ridiculous experience at SIR Spa... I booked for us the monarch package which included apparently the worlds longest and least effective manicure and pedicure, most distracted facial, and a fine massage. Ok so the massage was good... The facility great... But that facial tech Jackie! Holy Cow what a nightmare!!! Talked incessantly... Exclusively about herself and her hair! Pounded the table with frustration mid service! And to my partner, and this is a direct quote, "I don't want to scare you but I think you might have skin cancer" Ma'am, pardon? Avoid this woman at all cost. And the nail tech, Lourdes... I booked the Monarch package for my boyfriend as a surprise birthday present, "surprise" being the key word in this sentence. I was adamant that it was a "surprise" for him and that they call me instead of him to confirm. Naturally, they text his number two days prior to his appointment. Brilliant. As compensation, I was offered some sort of discount on service, which I found a little insulting. Ruining his surprise gift by giving me cash off doesn't quite make it right. They instead offered a gift certificate for product. Sounded great at first, but somehow the desk attendant managed to still charge him for by mixing up the original gift certificate for the Monarch package and the gift certificate for product. I just don't know how they think the person receiving a prepaid gift should have to pay for anything, especially considering the glitch in service prior. You think there would be notes in the appointment. While my boyfriend did say the facial and manicure were good, apparently the massage was horrible. If you need to tell a big, beefy masseur to apply more pressure twice and it still doesn't happen, something is wrong. Sir Spa is overpriced and rife with incompetent staff. I love this place. It's a great feature of the neighborhood! The front desk staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel welcome. The entire place is clean, pleasant, quiet, and well-kept. The locker room is well-stocked and the showers are like the most relaxing rainstorm you've ever been in. I've had several massage therapists, all good. Alex is phenomenal and my go-to. He uses anatomy and intuition to help heal and relax your body. I have a few chronic problems he's helped me with and for a muscular "tune-up" there's no one better. read more

The facilities at Sir Spa are great, they have nice showers, steam room and a clean locker room. I also like the lounge area. I'm basing my review on two visits where I bought the same package each time. It's called The Monarch and it basically encompasses the following services: - A Massage - A Facial - Hand & Foot Detail The first time I went I would have given the visit 4 stars but the second I would have given them 2 star so I'm going to middle with 3. Basically here is my rundown: First visit Massage - Great Hand/Foot - Okay Facial - Good Second Visit Massage - Even Better than the first time Hand/Foot - Mediocre Facial - Terrible What made the second visit worst? The facial! I went in there with the full intention of asking about some new products I wanted to try (which are pricey) but instead of having some gentle help in this area I got the full on push. She came in with a bowl full of probably 10 products and tried to push them all on me. I firmly told her I only wanted a few but she kept pushing. I was already at over $100 in product and when I told her I didn't want the moisturizer she looked at me like I was crazy and asked "but how are you going to moisturize!". When I told her I liked my Eucerin skin moisturizer and Alveeno all natural shaving gel she responded with "yes, but that's just Walgreen's and CVS stuff." At this point I was so irritated that the calmness I was feeling from my massage was gone. I was mad and wanted to leave because I wanted to be pampered not given the hard sell. Three other complaints... - The front desk staff doesn't seem to understand how to use their computer. Both times I had to wait five minutes while they tried to figure it out. - The second time I got a massage it was upstairs and I could hear tons of noise from water moving through pipes. I think it's next to the boilers or whatever that are used for the showers and steam room and everything else. Anyway, it kinda kills the chill mood. - If you get a package there is no time to relax for a minute between sessions. The last thing you want to do after getting a massage is be rushed to get your nails done. It's nice to sit down for a minute in the lounge and eat an apple or drink some tea. You are rushed from session to session. All and all I'll probably go back but only for a massage. I had Dave both times and he is really great. He knows what he is doing and is very friendly. I have been going to Sir Spa for a at least 5 years. In the past year the spa has changed. The decline is slow but the experience is stressful now. Making an appointment is not easy. Be prepared to put on hold if you call. If you use the website there will be several calls before you get a confirmation of an appointment. Twice now I have made an appointment with Antonio for a massage but when I show up for my massage I was told he had taken the day off or he was overbooked. It's sad to see the decline. Screwed over by American Airlines, I arrived in Chicago for my week-end of debauchery with old pals at 7:40 am rather than the 7:00 pm arrival that I paid for (that's another story though) - I had a whole day to myself, the weather was marginal at best... "ah", I thought, "perfect day to detox before the week-end of retox." My Chicago friend told me to call Sir Spa - I called and made a reservation for the Soveirgn Package. So, here's how I break it down - great facial - a true facial designed for the needs of men, rather than a woman's facial cleverly called 'THE GENTLEMAN'S FACIAL" - hot towels to sooth the stress of razor burn, masculine scented products... it's all good, it's all perfect. 90 minute massage - fantastic massage.... but, the room wasn't the best - it was the room upstairs that has been mentioned in other reviews where you can hear the water rushing through the pipes. I didn't let that hinder my enjoyment... just a comment. The hand/foot detail - I walked into the weirdly set-up mani/pedi room and was trying to think of how I could cancel. At first I found the woman doing the services over-energized and a little too impersonal... but that all changed over the course of our 90 minute relationship - I actually liked her more and more and when it was time to part felt like giving her a hug (but I didn't cuz I was scared she would beat me up)... all kidding aside, given the weird set-up that she was given to work with, she did a great job and I would go back. The locker room amenities were very nice, steam, waterfall shower... all of the wonderful MEN'S (not women's that man can use) products available for trial... great selction - class act! read more

Fantastic! As a massage therapist myself, I am pretty picky about spas and massages in general. My partner and I each booked a scrub and massage. The front desk staff was able to accommodate a last minute request for a little extra time which was nice. They gave us a little tour, the locker rooms are very nice and clean.. Rain showers, steam room, all kinds of grooming products. My only complaint was with the steam room. The steam jet blows straight out instead of down at the ground. My leg got close to being burned for sitting too close. I would recommend the owners to fix it. PVC pipe is not expensive, and everyone in the steam room seems to complain about it. Right, on to the services. James was very nice, and most importantly, attentive to my needs. He was genuine and honest, and was willing to take direction on techniques he didn't know how to do. The scrub was nice, but it would have been better if there was a little more time spent on my feet. My partner had Derek. He was pleased with the massage as well. We are already planning our next trip! I would have given 4.4 stars if I could. Reasons for 4 stars: Of the two receptionists I encountered, one was amazing and one was a bit snarky, which was a little annoying. The steam room: that steam jet is going to burn someone some day. After a stressful week on the road for work I decided to treat myself to a massage. Having lived up in Andersonville for a brief stint I remembered Sir Spa and after reading some positive reviews on yelp decided to book my first appointment. I read about their services on their website and booked my appointment online. In less than an hour my appointment was confirmed and booked. So simple! And, I also got a courtesy reminder call the day before to confirm my appointment. When I arrived the staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The receptionist led me to the locker room and explained how the lockers worked. Well, they weren't as easy to figure out and when I found an available locker it didn't have a robe inside. I had to wait for a staff member to bring me a robe, which was a bit awkward to stand and wait while men are changing or disrobing. The staff member brought me a robe but it was still damp, having not been dried properly. That was ok, though. Things like that happen. The relaxation area was very calming... nice chairs, tea and water were available. My masseuse came down and introduced himself and led me to the room. Being my first time getting a massage he was very kind to guide me through the process and tell me exactly what I needed to do. The room was very nice, clean and inviting. The lights were low, calming music played and the environment proved to be a total escape from reality for an hour. The masseuse did an excellent job being very mindful to ask me about the pressure and intensity of the massage. It was perfect. Afterwards, I went to the steam room and relaxed a bit ... again, completely calming and wonderful and finished with a shower in one of their Amaozon waterfall-like showers. It had shampoo and shower gel and they had excellent products available for use including shaving gel, aftershave, hair product and moisturizer. I left Sir Spa a new person and will definitely return again as a regular customer. I received a gift certificate for he Sovereign package at sir spa. It was an awesome experience. I made the appointment myself and the person on the phone was very helpful and patient with me in explaining all the services and how it would work. The package included an hour and half massage, an hour facial, and a manicure and pedicure. When I arrived at the spa, I had to fill a short form asking some basic medical background information. The folks who checked me were very friendly and efficient. They took me the changing room which was very clean and nicely appointed with wood lockers, showers, and a steam room. I started first with my massage. It was one of the best I've ever had. I had never had a 90 minute before, only an hour. I highly recommend the 90 minute massage. The first half hour got me relaxed, the second half hour got the knots worked out of my back and shoulders, and the third half took me into a state of nirvana. From there I went to my facial (my first ). The woman worked on asked me a few questions about my skincare routine, which is pretty basic, then worked over my face -- giving it a good cleaning, scrub, and applying various lotions and other stuff that just felt great. The woman was helpful and made some suggestions for things that I could try to treat the razor burn that I get from time to time. After that, I was taken to a room upstairs for the work on my hands and feet. I was offered a beer while the woman went about soaking, cleaning, cutting, filing, and buffing my fingernails and toenails. I felt like a king in the leather chairs as she worked me over and I kicked back with my beer and took in the tv. I ended with a long steam and a drenching shower. The steam rooms, locker rooms, and showers are always clean. I like that they have some of the products they sell in the locker rooms so that you can try them out. Will definitely be back. I go to Sir Spa about once a month or so. I have always had excellent massages regardless of which masseur I get although I do favor Bill if he is available. The staff is friendly and helpful and its easy to schedule an appointment. I like the fact that this place is more than just an excellent massage. you are given a locker with a comfortable clean robe and you can come early to enjoy snacks and drinks before as well as after the massage. afterwards you can unwind in the steam room and then have a shower with high pressure water. If you wish there are products for purchase on the way out but I have never been pressured into buying anything. I always leave Sir spa feeling relaxed and refreshed. read more

Here are the pros and cons: Pros: 1) Provide you with a really nice robe 2) Facility is very clean 3) Staff were friendly 4) Massage was good and was professional 5) Plenty of towels so you don't have to carry just one around with you the whole time you're there. 6) Nice showers 7) Steam room 8) Well equipped amenities (razors, q-tips, tissues, etc) 9) Nice lockers 10) Free drinks and snacks while you wait/relax (including beer!) This was my third visit to the spa. I can attest to the other Sir Spa yelpers. This place has a pleasant zen like atmosphere. It is extremely clean and the service is great. From a pricing perspective, I will not lie.... you do pay a premium and get what you pay for. I visited the spa after a stressful week of work, marathon training, and beach volleyball. I was so sore and stressed out. So I DEFINITELY needed to relax. My visit this time was a little different. My massage therapist was Anisha- the only female massage therapist in the staff. Unlike the other therapists, her room massage room was upstairs. This room was equipped with a full shower, plumbing, and was significantly larger than all the other rooms I've been in. And, the reason why she is in this room is because she is the only female on staff! Anisha's 90 minute Sir Spa Signature massage was an infusion of therapeutic deep tissue and reflexology massage. Her massage style was euphoric! Most importantly, I was extremely please with her client friendly approach recommending techniques that were tailored to my body type and areas of tension. And, by my request, she massaged me with my favorite skin care products such as Biofreeze and Jack Black. I really think that Anisha has found her niche in Sir Spa. She's been advocating for more women to come in to the men's spa in hopes to grow the business and build her clientele. Having recently moved back to chicago after an almost two year assignment in London, I was anxious to find a new massage therapist. I immediately looked up Sir Spa, having been a regular prior to my move. I read all of the negative reviews and freaked out. I tried Revive, mind liked the therapist (Brady) a lot but didn't like the owners attitude nor did I like the fact there was no locker to store my clothing during multiple treatments. Further, the facial therapist i used and really liked (Chad Bessignano) apparently is no longer there. So, I decided to give Sir Spa a chance despite the negative ratings of late. I was glad i did. Bottom line, it sounds like during the transition to new owners, there was a rough patch. Sir Spa likely made some painful, poorly executed, but necessary changes to move on. Lots of people were ticked off, and reviewed the spa not for the services themselves but for the policy issue. I understand, and I have been there. When you get screwed by a vendor, you want to make sure everyone knows. That said, if you are looking for a spa for men, this still really is the best place in chicago. I have now gone back twice (including for my birthday Spa day), since I moved back in July 2013. On the first visit, I had a foot detail, hot towel facial and signature massage. On the second visit, I had a Sir Scrub and signature massage. Chris Hennessy was my massage therapist both times and may just be my new regular. He is good, funny, and continuously asks if all is going well throughout the treatment. Scott was excellent and informative with the facial. The women who did my nails, while I admit I do not recall her name, was pleasant and professional. I enjoy the ability to relax in a steam room at the spa, and the steam room seems to be in good working order. The showers are back in business, though temp control is still a bit confusing. Towels are fluffy and white and the guy cleaning the locker room works his tail off (tip him!) The folks at the front desk are helpful if not overly friendly, and the rooms are nice, quiet, and comfortable. Prices are in line with other spas, and if you use coupons or packages, you can get great deals. I still highly recommend this place and suggest you ignore the rough patch of reviews in late 2011. read more

My partner bought me a gift cert for a mani/pedi for by bday (back in March). Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to use it. So, before the new year, I decided to schedule my session. I was a bit reluctant being that the girl I normally go to no longer works there. However, Kim, the new nail tech was wonderful. I have been going to Sir Spa pretty regularly for the past 4 years. My regular massage therapist left and I still see him when I can. But when I want a "man spa" experience, Sir Spa fits the bill perfectly. It's clean. It's comfortable. It's got a nice steam (could be hotter and steamier), great showers (though I would like a separate shampoo, conditioner, and body wash vs. just one all-in-one shower gel). Decent robes and flip flops (could be refreshed). Nice relaxation space with water, tea, beer, wine. Just came from there today - and had an absolutely fantastic 2 hour massage. Intense, strong, relaxing. It has been awhile for me to get completely zoned out and Antonio did the trick. I left in a state of absolute euphoria - ready to take on the day yet ready to take a nap at the same time. I will absolutely look forward to my next visit - and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to escape for a couple of hours to get reenergized. read more

As someone who does not use spa services, I was unfamiliar with the process of setting up a spa day. Since this was for someone else I was going in even more blind. However, the woman (so sorry I didn't catch her name!) walked me through each step of the reservation and even recommended I include the gratuity with the payment so that the birthday boy wouldn't have to worry about a thing on his relaxing spa birthday. That was a nice touch and something I wouldn't have thought to do. The one down side was that I had wanted to order the monarch package deal that included a massage, facial, and hand and foot treatment. However, I was informed that all three wouldn't be available within the same afternoon. This was frustrating, because I wanted to give him the full body treatment. Yet, they did honor the Yelp discount so that was a bonus. My partner reported that the services were excellent and he enjoyed his day. I just had a bad experience with Daniel, I assume the front desk person. I called and asked if I had a credit on my account, and gave my last name. Daniel looked up my last name, and then said no. He also shared that he remembered me from about a year ago, when I called to review my account and old gift cards that I had purchased (when they would have their sales). I then asked if he could look up a card number. He shared he was busy and put me on hold. When he returned, I then gave him the number, he shared - it was a gift card, and then found $10 under the card. I feel when I called a year ago, and reviewed my old gift cards (which I was told was part in their old system since they were old gift card), and consolidated them, I had more money on the card than $10. BEWARE! I purchased a gift card online with the recipient's name listed in the TO section. When the recipient went to redeem the card, Sir Spa told him the card had already been redeemed by a third party unknown to either of us, which forced the recipient to have to pay out-of-pocket for the services (it wasn't cheap). I was told by manager Marcus - a month after repeatedly leaving messages trying to get a hold of him with no response - that since the gift card was redeemed, I could not receive a refund. Very bad customer service, horrible first experience, will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. read more

We went here 11/25/16. After the reviews I was hesitant, but what a great experience. From the time we walked in the door it was like they knew us. Made us feel very comfortable and at ease. Everything was explained and Danny was great! Will definitely be back! Awesome job Sir Spa! read more

Did a couples massage here with my boyfriend. We both enjoyed the massage, the amenities at Sir Spa, the place was clean and well taken care of. The Champagne and chocolate at the end was a great touch. Will absolutely be back - the price was fair and everyone was very friendly and helpful. read more

My second visit didn't go quite as planned, but I credit the Sir Spa staff for making it right. Apparently the woman who booked my appointment got the day--well, the week--wrong. Since I don't live in Chicago and was there only another day, rescheduling wasn't the option. The front desk people took appropriate action and called David, with whom I had an appointment. Fortunately he was able to come in and gave me a really wonderful massage. He even taught me some nice stretches that have really helped since my appointment. To really make things right, the front desk offered me a nice discount on my massage, which I gave back to David... and all was well in the end! read more

This is the only place I have been that can wax men's eyebrows properly. Other places I have to be like "No, wax person, I don't want to look like Joan Crawford..." Also the massage I had was great. The best part is the bathroom finished with gorgeous Kohler fixtures and perfectly tiled walls. I would live in it. read more

Sir spa is not awful and the two stars represents the fact that it's fine. I've had multiple procedures there and each one was just fine. I really love the decor and the facilities are fastidiously clean. Nevertheless, all my experiences have been tepid, despite high hopes in light of the great location and modern design- which are both highlights. read more
