There was a long wait at the breakfast place down the street, so we opted to stop by Sips and try it out in the interim. Needless to say, it was a great idea! My first impression wasn't the best. The Sips interior is a refurbished... something. I couldn't quite make out what the shop used to be, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the interior (an assessment which encompassed their wall art and seating placements, which I still maintain aren't great). Discounting the odd interior, however, the place was a joy. Our barista truly made the experience. I asked about the cubano and she immediately launched into a spiel about what's in it, how it's made, and its history (concluding that her favorite drink was the similarily made cortadito). Either she was a coffee nerd or Sips trains their employees spectacularly; probably a mix of the two. Upon getting our drinks we went to sit next to the fireplace in the little parlor area. The interior began to grow on me, and I came to the (belated) conclusion that I did, indeed, enjoy Sips. Would highly recommend. Oh, and maybe try their cortadito. read more

I had an early appointment at Piedmont cardiology this morning. Since I am definitely not a morning person I felt like a cup of good coffee would be a great idea. There's a little coffee shop right across from the hospital, so I decided to drop in there and give them a try. The young man working the counter was very helpful discussing the menu. I don't know much about different kinds of coffees so I always have to ask about them before I order. I opted for a medium latte with sugar-free vanilla syrup. I was glad they had the sugar-free vanilla as many coffee shops that I've gone to were always out of it. I guess it's a popular flavor. Sips had quite a few in-house baked sweets. There were so many yummy looking options; it was hard to choose. The young man recommended the zucchini bread; said it was probably the most popular thing they offered. I ended up buying myself a lemon blackberry scone to have with my coffee plus a fat slice of zucchini bread and an apple scone to take home. Sips has a covered patio out front and another patio on the side. They don't really have indoor seating although the covered patio out front could be enclosed in the winter for a seating area. I sat outside and enjoyed the morning sun with my scone and my coffee. The coffee was delicious and the scone was wonderful. I don't get out this way all that often, but when I do, I'm going to stop at Sips again. They have good stuff. read more

I think Sips is awesome. When I go there I always get an everything bagel with cream cheese (along with something on the menu that is coffee related). Their bagels are awesome. Very fresh tasting and good quality for the money. I have had a couple of different coffee drinks from here and enjoyed both of them. I will say, I tried one of their smoothies and was not a fan. It tasted very pre-packaged and sugary. After that I decided to stick with coffee and bagels from here. Service is always fairly quick. I. Love. Sips. The coffee is so good. I just got an oat milk cortado for the first time from sips and it was perfect. The employees are so nice. I always have a good experience when I get a coffee from here. The scones are really good too. I usually get strawberry rhubarb with matcha icing but they are all pretty dang good. The muffins are really good and the pistachio baklava if they have it. Such a cute cozy atmosphere and nice patio. Also they have many WiFi connections so you don't have to worry about being laggy if you come to do home work or regular work using the WiFi. The passwords for the WiFi are funny. read more

Cute local coffee shop. They often don't have enough staff (maybe 1, sometimes 2 employees), so there is sometimes a bit of a wait if the person in front of you got a fancy drink. The blended drinks are made from a pre-made mix, so if you want them less sweetened, you don't have that option. But if you don't mind that or just want a good cup of coffee, then this is a great stop. The location is great: right in the heart of Normaltown. I can usually find parking right next to the building. The best part about Sips is the outdoor/porch area. It's the perfect spot to meet a friend and enjoy the sounds of town or just relax with a good book. It's the next best place to your own cozy front porch. read more

This is my new favorite coffee shop in Athens! I have been to SIPS three times within the past week. It's a perfect study space for students, if you want something off campus. There is seating inside, on the patio, and outside. They have a large selection of espresso drinks. They also serve local coffee i.e. 1000 faces and jittery joe's. I stan for the 20oz size, because who doesn't want that much coffee? I have tried the charcoal mocha and it was delicious. The baked goods are also amazing. I have only had the chocolate chip cookie, which is giant, and it was so good. I would highly recommend! read more

My new favorite place to get coffee in Athens. I used to be a frequent visitor at another well known Athens coffeeshop until they stopped roasting their own beans. Sips typically has 1000 Faces on drip, and anyone that brew some 1000 Faces is cool in my book. I've come here quite often to get some Dissertation writing done on nice spring days out on the patio. Also, I've seen very few undergrads here. I don't have anything against undergrads, I was one once, but when they swarm a place, it gets too busy. I have never had a problem getting a seat here out on the patio. The employees I have met here have been great and helpful. If its warm out, try getting an iced coffee in a Mason Jar. Good stuff. My friend who lives in Athens raved about this place so as I visited her today I made a point to stop here before getting back on the road back to Atlanta. I will say, it is very quaint and is a nice local cafe that I would probably be a regular at if I lived in the neighborhood. I had a decaf cappuccino and was happy with it. Service was lukewarm though. The guy at the register didn't crack a smile and I just didn't feel the love. But nice adorable space and the drink that he made was good, so giving it a four. This is a cute little coffee house kind of across the street from Athens Regional Hospital, so the area is nice. The parking is good as they have their own lot. The décor is nice, everything is tidy unlike my usual coffee house where I almost have to step over UGA students and their books on the floor, steps... Sips seems to cater to professionals. In the mornings everyone in there is suited w/ ties. The women are dressed professionally and I'm thinking this group is part of the ARMC or possibly UGA staff. It's a wonderful little coffee house though I'm use to being more laid back. I have only been a few times. I don't plan on going back only because SIPS sells Jittery Joe's coffee and if I want that I can just go to either of the Jittery Joe's which are closer to were I live. I am giving SIPS five stars though because I would rate all things about SIPS above all coffee houses in Athens. read more

Wonderful little gem, right in the heart of Normaltown. The employees have been friendly and warm (which is a nice change from the usual barista attitudes dished out at most local coffee shops). The drinks are great, and made to order. They carry some delicious locally made goodies (the raspberry chocolate scone is a personal favorite). And the atmosphere is peaceful and inviting. I have to say that Sips is one of my new favorite places to whether it is just to sip something yummy and just chill, or to have a little quiet time to get something done online.
