In addition, the hot pumpkin chai oatmilk latte didn't get made the way I requested which was I just wanted 1 pump of syrup so it wouldn't be so sweet. When I drank it, it tasted as though they had put 7 pumps in it! Not kidding. It was sweeeet~ I also got a can of cookies and I'm glad I looked inside before leaving the store because they were all cracked. About the taste: I got the egg and cheese w/chicken sausage on everything baguette. It was cold, but the baguette was tasty and flaky. I also got a King Creme Filled Donut. It was A++++. It was big and they did not skimp on the yummy not so sweet pastry custard stuff in the middle!!!! Also, I got my husband a long apple donut thing and he liked the texture of it. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was very different. I knew I had a long day ahead at work, so I planned to stop by and pick up something special for myself and a few treats for my coworkers. I arrived at 6:00 a.m., which is the posted opening time on the website. Since I work only about seven minutes away and needed to be at work by 6:30 a.m., I had planned my morning accordingly. When I arrived, the doors were open, but there was only one fresh item available, along with a few leftover sandwiches. A young woman working there explained that they were short-staffed. While I was disappointed, I completely understand that staffing challenges happen. I asked if one of the items I had hoped to purchase would be available soon, and she said she wasn't sure and that it would likely be quite a while. The lack of available food wasn't what bothered me most. What left a lasting impression was the interaction itself. I felt as though my presence was unwelcome. The employee seemed visibly irritated that I was there, even though I had simply arrived at the posted opening time. I never intended to be an inconvenience, but I was made to feel like one. Because of that experience, I decided to leave without purchasing anything. It was disappointing, especially because my previous visits had always been so positive. There might be a little bias options here since this joint is owned by his really good friend's granddaughter. But the fact it's local, I'm going to support it. Walking up, the espresso machine and register was set up outside. There's some remodeling going on so I didn't get the opportunity to see what the venue looks like inside. But outside is quite cute. I love the flowers surrounding the outside patio. A handful of sweet baristas were working. They all greeted us! I checked out the summer menu to see what kind of cool drinks they had. I got a vanilla oat milk matcha latte. My husband got a summer drink of the menu. It was a sparkling strawberry lemonade. My husband's lemonade was so good! I appreciate that real strawberry puree was used. It was sweet, tangy and bubbly! It was quite refreshing for a sweet drink. My matcha was balanced! There was a good amount of matcha to oat milk. I didn't quite taste the vanilla as much as I would have liked to. I did add some sugar to it when we stopped at the Waffle House. It tasted much better once the sugar was added. I'm already going to plan on coming back when we visit Athens again next year. I look forward to seeing the new remodel. One said they don't eat raw fish, another said they don't eat lettuce. None of the 3 acknowledged that something was wrong with what was served in the sushi bowl they prepared! 1. There was a lot of rotten mixed lettuce in our poke bowl. (black, rotted slimy) My wife complained, and showed all the rotten pieces she was having to collect on a side napkin. The two women shrugged, and said it came new from the container like that. Did she want a bowl with zero lettuce? Not really. That's not we paid for. We always get half sushi rice & half salad all the bowl places we like. I repeated that we buy a lot of mixed salad at the grocery, and it often does need some washing/ inspection to remove rotten lettuce pieces or sections. They shrugged. 2. When I asked about the salmon vs. spicy fish, my bowl maker shrugged and said she doesn't eat raw fish. (Do they know enough about sushi?) 3. My wife and I, who frequent many poke & sushi places, were amazed they would not take any responsibility. A 3rd worker comes in to work. We explained to him, confident someone must know it is not acceptable to serve rotten lettuce in a sushi bowl. He said, "Why are you asking me? I just got here. I don't know. I don't eat lettuce." 4. OK These 3 people have not been trained about acceptable food quality, much less sushi, which requires higher standards! 5. Details, this was about 90 minutes after the GA vs Kentucky football game, and we were the only ones in the store. Another family came, heard our ongoing discussion, and left. 6. Overall: pleasant place, and good ingredients and preparation EXCEPT for my wife's with multiple pieces and edges of lettuce that were black, slimy and clearly rotten.
