Store is crammed full of fanciful and useful kitchen, service, table/drink ware and hosting items and gifts. But let me tell you about the food and coffee. My husband and I arrived at our Airbnb ill prepared for the morning. Our kitchen was equipped with a Keurig and some K- cups. We are such that we will decline K-cups and forge on to find good coffee. Off to a rough start in Normal Town Athens we happened to walk past Athens Cooks with cafe tables filled with good looking food and happy patrons on the outside and the smell of coffee inside--Rich smelling coffee. My husband had a double espresso which was pulled perfectly and I had a beautiful cortado served in a delightful, little glass. The was perfect and well worth the wait as it was now basically lunch time. We shared a fabulous pastrami sandwich with pickled beets, Gouda, and arugula and a cup of the freshest, crispest, most flavorful watermelon gazpacho I have ever had. I think I might be ruined. The staff were friendly and helpful. On the inside is a very large shared dining table which seems to be a fun place to gather. The menu is inventive for lunch and the food is well prepared. I will never buy anything from this cafe again (they claim to be a kitchen store but seem to have abandoned that purpose long ago). I went in to buy an electric kettle. The one I was seeking was too heavy for me, but I wanted to buy local so I chose a different, more expensive one. The only color they had in store was baby blue, so I agreed to buy a red one from their warehouse, paying upfront. When I picked it up the salesperson (same one who sold it to me), handed me a shopping bag and sent me on my way. I trusted them and didn't look in the bag. Thirty minutes later, a $267 tea kettle is rattling around my trunk. No box, no paperwork, nothing. The salesperson handed me the bag without saying anything!! Any reputable business would let you know the situation, perhaps offer a discount, and give you a choice about whether you still wanted the item. I returned the item and will never be back again. When this business goes down, they will only have their own questionable business practices and poor customer service to blame. (btw, their breakfasts are super oily and disgusting) read more

The food was good. I got the chicken Caesar wrap. It's a good option for Athens but i definitely know there are better out in the world. It's not chopped on the inside and skimpy on lettuce. No croutons in it either. Overall, food was good but the workers were so odd. I stood at the counter and three workers were standing back there but not taking the initiative to take my order. They were being so awkward too. It was so odd and something I've never really experienced lol. Probably won't be back due to unhelpful staff. read more

(This is not a sandwich review as I have not tried the sandwiches lol) OMG!!! We have never been in here and boy was it shocking and overwhelming......in a good way. I got to see a beautiful soul that I haven't seen in a while (go check out anything beautiful and sweet and she probably made it. Her name is Megan and she is amazing!!!) Back to Athens Cooks. lol We loved looking at all the stuff. There is literally every gourmet cooking device you can imagine in this tiny lil shop. We didn't eat! We will definitely be back to eat and buy stuff! Just stopped in for a coffee and check it out. I had salted caramel "special" and the hubs had the Mexican Mocha. Mine was good but his was unbelievably delicious!!!! Spicy, cinnamony, dark and cozy. We will definitely be back for the coffee, as well as to try everything else, especially the desserts!!! Took 30 minutes for a sandwich to make it to the table. Staff blamed their ticket whatever. We were the only ones sitting/eating at the large table INSIDE. Went there when they first opened. Could not remember why we never thought to go back. read more

Athens cooks is a hidden gem lunch spot in Athens. They have delicious food, great kitchen shopping, and I've heard great classes! I'm hoping to get a date night in soon at one of their cooking classes. A friends took me here for lunch a few months ago and I haven't stopped raving about it since. I've been here a few times and have been consistently disappointed. The food is very good and I love the coffee which is why I have gone back. However, for such expensive food (nearly $50 for two people to have lunch), it is not worth it. The service is incredibly slow and I feel like I get skimped every time. There is one employee in particular (a girl with blue hair) that had particularly dampened the vibes. She is always incredibly stressed and I have heard her snap at her fellow employees just trying to help her. This last time I went, I got a sandwich with a side of chips and a coffee. The sandwich came after 20 minutes, no coffee, no silverware, no napkin. The plate had no chips. I asked if the coffee was ready at the counter and she told me they lost the order because their wifi was acting up. Totally understandable but when I went and got my coffee I asked about the side of chips and napkins. She said they were out of chips and didn't offer anything else to replace and never got me a napkin. Next thing I see, the table beside us is served their meals with chips. The whole experience was disappointing and I will not be back until their customer service improves. read more

Athens Cooks sells cookware, serves food, and offers cooking classes. I got almost all my Christmas gifts from Athens Cooks this year. The blueberry scone was delicious. The Mexican Mocha is really good--balanced sweet and spicy. The space itself gets tons of natural light. It is slightly crammed inside because they just have one big (gorgeous) wood table, but they have tables outside, as well. The staff is really friendly. read more

I was looking for spice jars when I found this awesome kitchen/cooking school/kitchen shop. They had an option I hadn't even thought of! All the rest of the shop was loaded with upscale, beautiful kitchen supplies that could've have resulted in big trouble in little china for me. But what was really cool was they were getting prepped for a wild game cooking class that evening. I've taken part in group cooking classes before and I have to say this place does it right and I will be booking one in the future. read more

Their sandwiches are crazy good every time. Ordered online and somehow switched up my order or maybe I messed something up who knows. I called right away and apparently called the wrong number but the lady was very kind and told me she'd also try to let them know to change out my order. Ended up calling the right number and there was no answer and wasn't confident it was even connected. Went in the store and they were packed and I didn't really care what sandwich they gave me at that point--was gonna take whatever I could get but they did manage to somehow correct it which was very nice. They get busy so this place can take a long time but well worth the wait. read more

all coffee syrups are made in house with natural ingredients!! the breakfast burrito was probably the best thing i've ever eaten. the menu wasn't limited and there's options for both breakfast and lunch. the staff was super nice too, they refilled my water and treated me with so much kindness. i will definitely try out the cooking classes here next time. they said they had done a harry potter one the night before which is awesome. there's also a lot of kitchen appliances for sale. read more
