This was in the same area as one of our stops for the pedal pub and the bar was very cute on the inside and very clean. I think because it was a Sunday afternoon, there was no high traffic but I loved the atmosphere although the bar itself is a little small from what I saw. The bartender was nice and she was quick with our drinks. I just had an amaretto sour since we had to be quick (only about 20 minutes for the stop). I think if I were going bar hopping in charlotte with my girlfriends, I'd definitely come back for a drink. read more

Another bar is located in uptown. This one feels a little bit more classier than some of the other dive bars in the area. They do have bouncers in the front and also that check ID. They have a cute tree inside with lights, which made the bar feel more chic for myself. They have a lot of tables to sit as well as seating in the bar. The bartender was super friendly and efficient. Came on a Sunday, and it was fairly empty. Of course we went during the day so there's not much of a crowd yet. The bathrooms were super clean but super tiny! Only two stalls and the sink are located right in front of the door to a stall so it can get hectic. It's not a bad bar and wouldn't mind coming here next time in the area. Since this is in uptown, of course, parking can be a hassle. read more

We literally stumbled into this bar after bar hopping in the downtown area. It was loud and the dance floor was packed. Now I am 20+ years past my clubbing days but somehow the music is the same. The DJ played a mix of hip hop and dance music that kept our feet moving. The bar tenders were pretty slammed but drinks came out quickly. They have lots of security around so I did feel safe. We popped in here on our way to a different bar and we're very glad we did. Katie was our bartender and she was AWESOME! She knows her drinks and can make a killer cocktail. They had a whole section of cocktail with champagne, so of course I loved their cocktail menu. The GM was in there as well and he was great to chat with. I had the time of my life. I actually came to SIP during All Star Weekend, which if you had the chance to go uptown this weekend, you'll know everywhere was charging an $80 cover and had a line around the block. Though there was a small (but doable) cover, it was a great choice. The bartenders made us were strong, the DJ was on point ALL night long, and it didn't get rowdy or uncomfortable though it was a full house. Crowd was pretty diverse which I like. They leave windows open out front so that it doesn't get too hot. I had a great time on a Saturday night and will absolutely be returning. read more

Had an urge to ride my bike to Charlotte today. Once I made it here i had to grab something to eat. As I was riding around I was really hungry. When I finally found somewhere to eat I parked the bike and started to walk towards the restaurant. On the way I saw this place and decided to drop in and grab a drink before going to eat. Once i was seated a drink was definitely next. When I checked in I was rewarded a 25% discount. On the Cocktail menu I chose the Sipolada and Sip on the Street. I stumbled upon this place before dinner across the street at The Capital Grille. I liked it so much that after dinner I came back for more adult beverages. It wasn't crowded when I initially arrived and I took a seat at the bar. Fast service and the bar tender was very attentive. Unfortunately they don't have any beers on draft. They did have some decent drink specials on cocktails and Moscow mules. I came back with friends after dinner and sat at a table. The bar was hopping but we still got served quickly. The drinks were strong and reasonably priced especially considering it's uptown. I really liked the ambiance of the place. It has it's doors open to the street and beautiful white lights all over the ceiling. That's probably a horrible description of why I liked the lights but if you go there then you will see what I mean. I enjoyed SIP so much that I went there the following night before catching at show at Blumenthal. Anytime I'm in the area this will be my go to for drinks. It's nothing fancy like lots of other places uptown and I think that's why I like it so much. An upscale dive bar? Is there such a thing? That's how I'm going to describe it! read more

What better way to end a brunch outing with friends than to catch a little football in a mutual location to watch the game. First time visiting SIP on a Sunday where we had additional friends who aren't really football people but definitely appreciate cocktails and wings. We decided on SIP since it was everyone's first time at the bar. They also have a downstairs area that I heard pairs as a lounge that I'll be back to try out. Upon initial entrance the bouncers didn't really appear to be bouncers since they were literally sitting down at a table near the entrance on their phones so I walked right in but my friends got stopped. It was a slow day I'm assuming but sitting down on your phone just seemed very lazy to me. The bartender was pretty cool. He was very attentive and there were a few regulars there that knew him by name so I would go again just because of the bartender. SIP has a small food menu that is provided by Restaurant 204 like 3 doors down which I thought was a great idea for a bar that doesn't have the means to serve food. Unfortunately our wings were under cooked and we really didn't have a way to complain about it so we kind of just threw them out. Unfortunately my rating for SIP is mainly due to the lazy bouncers and the terrible wings so I'm giving 3.5 stars for SIP and 1 Star or Restaurant 204 those wings were literally not fully cooked and partly red inside. read more

SIP is my favorite bar in Charlotte for many reasons! The drinks are always good. The servers are always good. The bouncers are always working and making their presence known. It was my turn to buy a round of drinks so once I checked in and saw that I got 25% off, I was ecstatic. I walked up to the bar to see what draft beer options they had to offer. Unfortunately the options were limited so I went with a NoDa Hop Drop 'n Roll and my friends went with Bud Light's. I thought the bartenders were a bit rude. I flashed my 25% off Yelp check-in offer and they had zero idea what it was, I even questioned if I checked in at the correct place.. But, she did get the manager who came over and adjusted my tab. I recently went back to SIP, This is an update to a previously bad review I had before. They remodeled the interior and appeared to have all new management and employees. So far this experience I was impressed. They even had a live band playing, which is very loud, but I enjoyed the music. Drinks are moderately priced at about $6 vodka special. The appearance seems to attract a cosmopolitan crowd. From the previous "Town Tavern" ownership, they tried more so for the club scene. I am unaware of how the weekend would be as this review is for Wednesday night. I met with the new manager, and he was friendly and helpful. To conclude, they appear to be heading in the right direction for the Uptown Charlotte scene; and I am glad I gave them another chance. read more

This place is ok. I am not really a big fan of this spot. There was a $5 cover and the upstairs bar has reasonably priced drinks. The downstairs dance floor is small and the majority of the space is taken up by VIP areas. I had to wait in line for about 20 minuets to go down stairs to the dance floor and it was not really worth it. It was very crowded and the crowd was very snooty. There was also a lot of very intoxicated people, but security was right on them and got them out of there. read more

Unfortunately, not a fan of SIP. It seems like a pretty decent dive bar on the corner of uptown but that's pretty much as good as it gets. There are a bunch of high top tables and it seems like it would be a good place to watch football with locals. I was not impressed with their limited beer choices. I came for happy hour with a bunch of coworkers and they didn't have a lot of alcohol options. Maybe it was the particular day I went - although I have been to this establishment a couple of times and both times the Moscow Mule wasn't very good. I used to like this place a little bit more when it was Town Tavern. There are some relatively inexpensive beer choices and an OK dance floor in the basement. The crowd is not the greatest, but you cannot really hope for much at this type of bar. The staff here tends to be indifferent, so the inmates run the asylum. We had a wonderful time trying to convince the staff that a young lady passed out on the bar needed assistance finding a way home safely, but they seemed annoyed when we sought them out, or told us she was fine. My past few experiences have really turned me off to this place. I will probably be avoiding it in the future. read more

Do not go here. There are a hundred other bars to go to in walking distance besides this one. The staff is rude, the music is not good, and they try to charge a cover when there is nobody inside. The last experience I had with this establishment was awful. We weren't even at this bar, just standing outside on the sidewalk talking, when one of the bouncers/bartenders (I'm not sure his position) sprayed me and four other friends with a water hose to get us to move away (we were not even inside the bar area). After several choice words, and no apology, other employees proceeded to yell at us and stick up for their moronic and rude employee. I don't know how or why this place is still open. Really enjoyed SIP when I visited as part of a bar crawl. Bartenders were quick and attentive. Other staff were also polite. Prices were reasonable for uptown. They have a really nice sitting area upstairs which would be great for grabbing a beer and hanging out. Staff members did have to remove chairs because it was getting too crowded which is understandable. The downstairs area is pretty cool. Definitely took me back to my college days. It feels like a dance party in a basement of a frat house. DJ was okay, he played a good mix of music which kept people dancing all night. This place has changed hands so many times it is hard to keep up. I think it was most recently Town Tavern and Brick and Barrel before that. It is a great place to grab an after work pint as the main level is a cozy room with upgraded decor from the last palce. However at night, the basement is a dance club. I have not been down there since it became SIP but I do recall losing my hearing for a day down there as the enclosed space traps in whatever beats the DJ is throwing out there. It was a good dance venue though as long as you're not claustrophobic. One perk to going to SIP is that they supposedly have a working relationship with Fitzgerald's who will validate your parking at the 5th St garage. That is a huge bonus Uptown. read more

We recently held our 10 year high school reunion at SIP and I was literally blown away by the venue and staff.... If you are looking for a location to have a Christmas or other holiday party look no further!!! These people run more than a bar.... They operate a well-oiled event space and everyone from security to the manger does whatever they can to make sure you and your guests have an amazing time! The cellar is a great space and both levels are well equipped to meet all of your event's needs.
